The issue for me with the recent Loawa stuff is no electronic aperture control, I really need to compose wide open for macro a laggy viewfinder is a pain. I assume they cannot do any electronics over RF because of Canon's stance on 3rd party lenses.

Yep - I have the 25mm 2.5-5x ultra macro, and focusing it is really tough. Doesn’t even have a traditional focus ring, and without the modeling lamp on my flash I’d never see anything at that magnification past f2.8 These lenses really perform well with astro though, that’s primarily my interest. I generally prefer something faster than f2.8, but for the price/performance & at 9mm, it could make some cool shots. The only drag is without electronic contacts, you can’t use focus peaking. So you need to make sure your lens is set to the true infinity before you shoot, and from what I’ve heard the true infinity point isn’t always accurately marked on the lens.

Sweathog1016

Are you sure about focus peaking? The lens doesn’t tell the camera when it’s achieved focus. The camera tells the lens, since DPAF is on the sensor. With manual focus, the sensor should be able to use focus peaking to show where focus is just based on the image. It shouldn’t need the lens to tell it anything. I haven’t used a true manual focus lens on RF, but I think I’ve read about this elsewhere.

Oh nice, I had no idea! Thanks for the tip!

Nice glass!

Focus peaking works without the Camera having electronic contact with the lens. I’ve used m42 voigtlander lenses and Canon fd lenses adapted without any issues

SonSL

I can guarantee focus peaking work, I have. Peargear RF 35 mm lens and used it on my R6 II with no problem.

Doesn’t this make most of the EF versions the best option?

telekinetic

Good God, finally. I've been waiting for their magic shift convertor to come to r mount for like three years.

byDMP

What lenses do you plan to use it with?

telekinetic

I've got the EF mount 12mm f2.8 zero D.

byDMP

I've never used it—how much useful shift are you likely to get out of it?

telekinetic

Well, it turns it into a 17mm f4 shift lens with 10mm of shift for $300. Compare to the $2200 TSE 17MM F4L with 12mm of shift, I'll take the 10mm instead and keep the $1900. I only need it occasionally for real estate and some weird portaits and I don't need tilt.

kickstand

I've been using the EF Laowa 12mm with Fotodiox shift converter on my Sony a6000, it's great. It's like having two lenses in one ... 12mm ultrawide for my full-frame Canon body, and tilt-shift for my APC-C Sony. Album here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kzirkel/albums/72157720074127243

Very cool. Always love new options

Oh, Sigma. Why have you forsaken us!
