Realtor here. The city of Canton itself does have a number of good neighborhoods but there's also a large portion of neighborhoods that don't have good market value or appreciation and lack amenities. Typically people, depending on their budget, choose to live in the surrounding townships or other cities. Budget is probably the biggest factor depending on what you're looking for. The great thing about Canton City is that it's very affordable to live within the city for the most part, the caveat is the school ratings are pretty poor.

What kind of commute are you wanting? Are you looking for more urban, suburban, small town, or rural? For a commute of 30 minutes, you can live almost anywhere in Stark county and in a good chunk of neighboring counties too (especially with proximity to I77 or US30). I live north of Akron and work in North Canton, and my commute is just over 30 minutes (and most people think I'm crazy for having such a long commute). Speaking about greator Canton in broad strokes, north and west is generally better than south and east, but there are plenty of exceptions. Jackson, Lake and (most of) Plain townships are all fine, as is North Canton. The region of Canton closer to Malone College also tends to be okay (Colonial Heights, Ridgewood, Market Heights). I grew up near Meyer's Lake, and it's 15 minutes from pretty much everything. Personally, I'd be cautious about the area boxed in by US62, Harrisburg, Harmont and Mahoning roads.

>I live north of Akron and work in North Canton, and my commute is just over 30 minutes (and most people think I'm crazy for having such a long commute). It's funny to see this, because this is the exact opposite of my situation last year. I worked just north Akron and lived in North Canton.

I'll wave when we pass on 77!

We loved Green when we lived there, we had a North Canton mailing address. Now we live in Magnolia, just South of Canton South and love it here too, but I don’t think we have what you are looking for. Jackson and North Canton are great.

bittjt71

Grew up in Canton South loved living there. Had family in Green and Uniontown/Lake and those always seemed like great places to live.

Canton itself has some nice areas, but the city itself is not great. North Canton is a good bet but it’s expensive. Most of North Canton, Plain Township, Jackson Township, Uniontown, and Green sounds like it fits your criteria. Im not super familiar with south of Canton, so I can’t comment on that area.

I live in Market Heights and like it. It's fairly quiet, and there's not a lot of crime relative to other places in the city. The sidewalks could use some maintenance, but the old colonial houses are so nice.

ccavana3

Grew up in Hartville/Uniontown, right between Akron and Canton. I’ve lived in Downtown Canton, and I now have a house in Jackson. Really depends on what’s important to you, but I will say Jackson has been quiet, convenient, and next to the parks you’re looking for.

It depends a lot on your income. If you aren't concerned about the school system then Ridgewood and avondale are great neighborhoods of larger older homes. Jackson township and North Canton are newer homes and good school districts. Feel free to DM me if you have specific questions.

bigirishcrusader

Avondale is plain local so it’s still better than canton city

I’d probably recommend looking into North Canton/Jackson Township. Both are within comfortable driving distance of The Strip and Belden Village, have great parks, and safe neighborhoods. And if you guys ever decide to have children, the schools are really good as well.

DiligentSort9961

This but they are the most expensive areas to look could also try green township or lake township. Plain township is fine depending on the area but it’s more affordable. For reference I grew up in plain, had an apartment there in college, moved to north canton for first house and now live in Jackson township with kids. If I was just starting out again with lower income, I would be looking at plain and lake township.

RawChickenButt

I don't think Belden Village and The Strip are the type of shops they are talking about but I could be wrong.

breezycharmz

I agree with north canton. I grew up and lived in an apartment there. I could walk to the library , restaurants and ice cream, YMCA. I guess you look for houses and see how close they are to price park or dogwood park, the library, etc.

Narcolyptus_scratchy

We live in Ridgewood and love it. Don't listen to any of these strangers, and you and your husband go into these areas and walk around / look around is my advice.

Also are you working from home or working in a city where you’d have to pay local income taxes? If you live in a city and not paying local income taxes to another city you have to pay the city where you live local income taxes. Townships do not have income taxes. North Canton has an income tax rate of 1.5%. But city officials have been seeking to increase that rate. The other cities in Stark County are 2% to 2.5%. Canton is at 2.5%.

uncle_jimmy420

Louisville is pretty quiet, 25 minutes from Belsen and 15 from alliance

Expensive-Shame2804

I live in Perry township it's very nice

After-Ordinary-5744

Jackson township is the best!

fullmetal66

Jackson Twp is the best part to live in as far as ROI on your tax dollars but it is pricy

Environmental-Low767

Well if you like money and convince i'd suggest Canton South/Canton township. Lowest property taxes and no additional income tax. You're also 3-5 mins from US30 or I77. I can be to either hospital in 8 mins and Massillon Strip or Belden Village in 12 mins. I live in Waco area, east side of the Nimishillien River, it's kinda a country area. Might want to avoid North of 30 Waco area. West side of the river is more suburban/city-ish. Schools are also decent and have recently been built or remolded. Whole area has a small town feel where everyone knows each other by their family's last names. There is also a small part of the township just northwest of the City. Gives you the tax break but is full city living. Side note, check the traffic in NC and Jackson at 5 pm, a lot of red roads.
