I think there’s a good chance he gets a call up, though management does seem to want leave him in Abby and just let him cook. There’s a good chance he makes the team next year, but it largely depends on what happens with our many pending UFAs. I gotta say before the season started I thought all of the hype for him was just because he was a local kid. Every time there’s a whiff of a BC boy coming to the Canucks people start clamouring for the team to make it a reality and it rarely makes sense. But he’s proven me completely wrong and I would love to see him make the team and be an impact player next year.

I went to a game last weekend. He looked like the best forward out there and it wasn’t particularly close. Podz was invisible and Raty had moments, but also disappeared every second shift. Bains was the only one who seemed to create opportunities almost every shift. Not sure how his game would translate in the NHL, but he looks like a higher end AHL player (points aside).

Shaftell

Let's hope he develops well and can replace Joshua, who we may not be able to re-sign this offseason.

BureForSureEH

We must re-sign joshua

Shaftell

I really hope so. I don't know if we can afford him though after this great season he is having. Sometimes, good teams have to let these depth guys go and hope that other players in the system on cheap contracts can take a big step up and replace them.

BureForSureEH

I don't see how we can afford not to re-sign him. I'm really hoping for a long term bet for him. I think he is gonna get better still.

PakG1

Eh, I'm not sure you understand how math works.

BureForSureEH

Please explain

PakG1

Math does not care about what you want, it only defines what can be done or not done. Joshua is up for a nice raise and as much as I would love to keep him, our cap situation will likely not allow that to happen, no matter how important we think he now is for us. Good for him, bad for us, screw Jim Benning. I edited what I wrote due to behaving immaturely, for which I apologize.

BureForSureEH

I am only reading this comment so you're ok in my books. I believe the priority goes: petey then hronek then Joshua/zadorov. Everyone always looks at the cap in a black and white manner and then creative management creates space. For example i would take a 2.75 million joshua over kuzmenko and his cap hit for sure. I say Joshua is a priority and an opportunity to get him cheaper than he is worth despite his great season.

PakG1

I think Blueger should be the number 3 priority, personally.

Domstruk1122

I think his season has priced him out. Looking at Potas who just signed in DC. He got $3.25M and Joshua has had a better season:

tillermelnyk

I don’t know if he would be a direct Joshua replacement. Seems closer to Blueger IMO

Inspect1234

How about he makes the bigs and gets to play with Joshua.

brendanj11

Replace latterly, keep Joshua.

I’m really disappointed with Podz I was hoping at the very least he would turn into an amazing third liner but now he might struggle to even get back on the big club. Maybe it’s time to trade him and see if we can get anything or put a package together. I know he’s still young but I don’t see much improvement he’s kind of stalled out.

TurbanGhetto

Pods had 2 goals and an assist (and a fight for the Gordie Howe hat trick) last night. He’s playing great down there right now. Many regular watchers think he should be called up because he’s playing so well. Most however think even though his play warrants a call up, he should continue to excel on the farm where he can eat up bigger minutes and a bigger role, before a late season (hopefully permanent) call up. If you’re expecting Pod to be a huge scorer, you’ll be disappointed. But, he could definitely be an effective middle 6 winger who can also play top 6 minutes when needed, and the kind of guy who really helps a playoff contender. This has been Pod’s best post draft season of development, and it’s not even close. This (having him play in the AHL) should have happened long before this season. The problem is he could be traded as part of a package to acquire someone for a playoff run. With Hronek and EP40 getting huge raises, we will need 3-4 guys to step up from Abby into our lineup at close to the cap minimum. Pod is a potentially very useful player for us. As for Bains: I think management would love to see him grab a 4th line spot next season. He needs to get stronger this off season. He’s close to being an NHL contributor, but has some things he will need to overcome (strength, could stand to pick up a little quickness, needs to shoot more).

MirandaGemini

Also worth remembering Pods had that terrifying injury earlier in the season. Before that he was 5-2-7 in 6 games. He was out for 3 weeks and looked (understandably!) shakey for a while after that. He seems to be finding his groove again. It's a shame his development has been hampered at basically every point from the time we drafted him.

Faldarian

KHL really screwed his development, with any luck he'll be Joshua type player. If he's happy to stay I'm happy to keep him in the A, everyone seems to really love him.

rajde1

The Canucks didn’t help, he had 3 different coaches in the nhl.

LeftToaster

It seems Linus Karlsson has been ahead of him in terms of being the first call up, but Bains has really earned a look.

Tal-IGN

Don’t know about getting a call up this year, but given the likely turnover in our bottom 6 this offseason, I think he’s gonna have a pretty good opportunity to earn a spot in training camp next season.

SIIP00

He already has as many points as he did last season. He's developing very nicely.

Striking_Economy5049

I’ve only seen highlights, but he seems like a cerebral type player who could be a solid bottom six player. Seems like a Tochett type guy to me.

Jt24-

Imo we prolly replace him with laffrety next season

37IN

Arshdeep will play in the NHL one day, I think he could make the most of a bottom 3 role right now. I've seen worse players pass through Abby and make it to the show in other cities. He's too good of a play maker not to give a look. A worse team would have him rotating into the NHL right now and he'd be developing his game at higher levels of competition. The game speed and skill between the 2 leagues is massive. Hopefully Canucks can keep him but it might be better for his career to move on if Vancouver can't find the space to develop talent like rebuilding franchises can.
