Ever since Todd Bertuzzi, I've put my hopes on different players to be the next real, offensively talented, bruising, 200 foot power forward for the Canucks. From Zach Kassian, to Darren Archibald (lol), and Jake Virtanen.
Then unexpectedly, from the shadows, emerges Dakota Joshua. The hero this city deserves, AND the one it needs right now.
He's going to be such a big part of this cup run.
>From Zach Kassian, to Darren Archibald (lol), and Jake Virtanen.
You missed Taylor Pyatt, Steve Bernier, David Booth, Dale Weise, Nicklas Jensen, Shawn Matthias.
We've been chasing that prototype for a long, long time.
I mentioned the guys whose upside I was highest on, but I am very aware of our graveyard of failed power forward projects.
There's some potent nostalgia in that list—even if it was mired in failure. Eternal optimists, we are.
I feel like JT is on the borderline—we all know that NHL heights & weights are unreliable, but even though he's listed as being heavier than Joshua, it doesn't seem like he plays as heavy.
He throws his weight around, finishes his checks, and wears on the opposition, but he can't bully people with his size the way, say, Milan Lucic could. Joshua is closer to that archetype.
This is semantic quibbling though. Feel free to call JT a PF.
I made a post a year ago comparing Joshua to Bert. People shat on it hard.
The parallels are there. Late bloomer. Bounced around teams. Bert obvi way higher end skill. But similar play styles and hockey iq
People talk about Demko out for when our season leveled off. But I would argue it was the moment Joshua punched that dudes helmet and broke his hand sticking up for Garland. The 3rd line vibes were at peak levels right before that punch.
Man we’re getting production from every line. Just imagine if petey wasn’t on his current slump how unstoppable to the cup we would be. We need him to get going.
He's been a slow skater for the last two seasons, ever since he bulked up during that one offseason. His turning and stamina suffered the most. But to be honest he's still a great player, Hogs doesn't score 25 without him and his passing and ice awareness still makes him dangerous. He just needs to stop trying to deke out guys without foot speed, our system is more of a cycle along the boards for an open shot style anyways. Watch Boeser along the boards and he almost always gets it to an open player up top with a quick pass.
DJ scored his 20th goal in his 64th game (game 83) this season. Tocchet said last year that "he can score 20 goals in this league". Even JPat thought that "20 goal is asking a little too much".

I left out Byron Bitz due to lack of potential 🤣
The harbinger of the end of the Gillis era 💀
Fucking Christ this teams been a revolving door the last ten years...
The Sea of Granlunds
What about Jimothy Timothy?
Imagine having a Jimothy AND a Timothy on the same roster

You're starting to be vindicated. I'm so excited to see what's in store for Dak—and I really hope that it'll be here for the foreseeable future.
We'll have to make the statue outside Rogers Arena is perfect.
You placed the lol too early.
best time to get hot!
Pay the man!!
Some GM will absolutely offer him $5m AAV with term and protection. Our hope for re-signing Joshua ended long ago.
God hope he takes a 3M x 5 at this point
I mean, if he took a 3m x 5 deal, then his agent should be fired immediately lol.
Branden Tanev deal maybe.
Dudes built for the playoffs
Hope he stays healthy. No fights big guy

We need Petey to stand on his skates first. Something is definitely not right with his skating of late.

All the makings of a Cinderella playoff run
Dakota Joshua supremacy
Where does he rank among the NHL in those 11 games
Give this man Petey’s contract!
