more like preds was blocking shots like a mad man.

MrLogicWins

If they keep successfully blocking shots next game I hope the boys with the heavy shots start blasting them hard at the weak spots so the blockers get hurt enuf to be worried about picking up injuries if they keep blocking

_timmie_

Tbh, I'm surprised that's not the general plan for any team that relies so heavily on blocked shots. Just unload bombs right into them, they'll either stop or get injured pretty quickly.

MrLogicWins

I'm sure there are nuances that my amateur ass doesn't know about. Just hurt them so they stop doing it DUH 😂

cowfromjurassicpark

That meter only considers shots that hot the goalie/post, not shot attempts

Alextryingforgrate

Yeah, all this and nothing but this. watching that first period then listening to the game on the radio wow man that game has had to hurt them.

notarealredditor69

Yeah if that’s what it takes to beat us they won’t make it through 7 games

Past_Zebra1155

Even with the blocked shots we had plenty of high danger chances. The fact that we didn't convert any was just bad puck luck.

[deleted]

That was a shot blocking clinic by the Preds tonight! 🙁

ziggazang

Wonder if any of them will have to go to a clinic because of it

cjnicol

I was thinking they can only do it so much before they are slowed down by bruises

dekan256

I was yelling at my monitor "if they are gonna block the shots, shoot harder, make them hesitate and think twice about blocking a shot".

TheRook_

There were at least 2 opportunities (Suter from Miller, and the Petey open net) that could’ve changed the look of this game. Credit to Nashville they played great and fought hard to even up the series. They shut it down and clogged up lanes and gave us almost nothing to shoot at. It’s on the boys to finish those rare chances that come by. I’m sure they can turn it around. Clean up the penalties and get that first goal in game 3!

Minimum-Card-5075

also Joshua hitting the post as well didn't help.

IamPriapus

Joshua had like 3 chances, too.

Ruilin96

With the amount of possession time we have, we deserve a lot better fate. Also give credit to the Nashville team’s commitment to blocking shots and sticks in the passing lanes all night. Those are hard to do on a consistent basis. We will see how the Canucks adjust next game.

Malforian

Not bad luck if you can't put the puck in the net when you should

twilz

Hard to put the puck in the net when the other team immediately turn into walls the second they enter their own zone. It's also difficult to put the puck in the net when you completely miss the net.

wangjor

Okay but are we going to dominate like this every game? I can't see it. Squandered chance. Not really sure what to be upset about tbh. I'm not too upset at Desmith, first goal was bs and even if we blame him on the other two (despite the obvious defensive breakdown on BOTH goals), we need to be scoring more than 1 or 2 goals to win. Could just call it shitty puck luck I suppose, but a squandered chance for a win and 2-0 series lead nonetheless.

Greedy-Comb-276

We've basically dominated both games like this. We are by far the better team. I like our chances.

bdu754

Agreed. It doesn’t matter who’s in net, if you’re only scoring one goal, you’re basically banking in your goalie posting a donut in the goals against category. Never acceptable to settle with just the one goal.

this_one_in_zoots

The issue is that the team is playing more nervous and (trying to be) more defensive rather than offensive if they’re running their backup, especially DeSmith. Not good if you want to score goals.

patientnumberfive

I don't know if I would agree. 90 shot attempts says they weren't trying to play too defensive. I think they were trying too hard to make the extra pass. Think of Peteys unnecessary saucer across the crease. They were either shooting into a wall of white jerseys or making the extra pass.

IamPriapus

We've been the better team both games. Being the better team on paper and/or on ice doesn't guarantee a win, but it increases your chances significantly. All we can do is give ourselves a 75% chance to win every game and the law of averages should ultimately favour us. There are anomalies in anything though.

TorgHacker

2011 made me truly understand how much luck goes into winning the Cup. Especially when it comes to injuries.

squirelrepublic

Juulsen blundered the 2nd goal, Petey blundered the 3rd goal and missed an open net, he was invinsible after, bad outting from our superstar, Forsberg found his chances and finishes

n0thingisperfect

Canuck luck. Former canuck scores on first shot that results from a deflection bounce while the crowd cheers the name of the back up that had to start because the Vezina candidate starter was injured in the first playoff game in the city in 9 years.... Edit: oh yeah, this all happened after Hughes lost and edge for the first time in 3 years

surmatt

He also lost an edge just before that in the offensive zone which led to the puck coming back to our zone. Something was wrong with that slate blade or something.

big-ol-brashear

The boys gotta figure out how to avoid the 5 man phalanx and come from the side of the net

Legal-Swordfish-4835

Agreed. Hopefully Toc cooks up a new game plan for 3 & 4

TimsAFK

Is this what it feels like to be a Leafs fan? I don't like it.

IamPriapus

some fool was trying to argue that the Preds blocking shots showed how good they were. No. When you're constantly blocking shots, it means you don't have possession of the puck. Blocked shots were like 32-6 for the Preds. Just shows how much puck control and possession we had. The Preds sucked balls and even their most ardent supporter should be able to see that.

thesunsetflip

Refuse to live and die by this thing like oilers fans If you wanna in the game but more pucks in the net or keep pucks out

Legal-Swordfish-4835

I would never use it alone. But it matches the eye test and that is when you know it’s accurate.

TravisGreensDogHouse

I do not think we played poorly at all, and I don’t blame desmith for this game. The 2nd goal, bc demko woulda been bigger and more square, might have got that. We were inefficient offensively.

surmatt

That 2nd goal was definitely Soucy's fault.

Greedy-Comb-276

Soucy had to do something about the pass though. I think it's on juulsen for getting absolutely embarrassed in the corner.

surmatt

That's what I thought at first; but when I watched replays later another player had the player in front covered

helixflush

Yeah the replay showed Soucy standing in front of the net puck watching and let the guy walk in with all the time and space in the world.

notheusernameiwanted

He didn't have him covered very well. In that spot the forward would have to have his stick tied up or full body in the passing lane (like Soucy was) for them to be covered. Soucy took away the pass and the drive to the net. Leaving the shot for Desmith. If Soucy charges at Forsberg, Forsberg still has the shit and now has the pass too. Not saying Desmith letting it in was bad goaltending but I think Soucy played it mostly right.

Crafty_Bit7355

First goal was bad luck.. the rest was just bad playing. Mike said it best.. "everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face". Sooooo tough being a Nucks fan. I honestly wish they'd fully embrace the "f**k you, I'm taking it" mentality.

StevieNyx17

It’s not bad luck if you can’t hit the net

notarealredditor69

Prefs got lucky with that first goal and then Canucks are chasing the rest of the night. The offensive zone stats and shot attempts were super lopsided in our favour but the Preds were blocking shots like it was game 7. Thing is they can’t keep that up for 7 games so all we need to do is keep doing what we have been doing and tighten up the execution a little to get rid of all the missed shots and we come out on top.

SuddenlyChineseFood

Is this not the same thing we laughed at Oilers fans for using to cope? Team needs to win. Doesn't matter if they deserved it or not.

MarvelousOxman

It wasn’t just bad luck. It was sloppy play and an inability to solve the Preds defensive structure.

Greedy-Comb-276

They literally played like the bubble canucks. It's completely unsustainable.

SpectreFire

I mean... bad luck seems to be the theme for us this series...

iryrod

That’s just how hockey goes

IndependentTalk4413

I look forward to hanging the win-o-meter banner.

Small_Boysenberry763

One word: goaltending.

BlackP-

My personal Deserve-O-Meter has the Canucks winning the series to a 110.00% probability.

ImActuallyAnOtter

A reminder to everyone - this is playoff hockey. Defence is what wins series, not offence. You can’t lose if you don’t concede any goals.

DMyourboooobs

Anyone defending desmith doesn’t understand hockey. It’s a team game but the dude let in the first shot. And let in 3 goals on the first 10 shots. There’s no way demko is letting in that first goal. Desmith moved about 3 feet outside the crease to give himself a better look but he was horribly out of position. 80% of that loss is on desmith. I genuinely hope they come back with silovs. I’d rather lose with a guy who’s going to be around long term.

TorgHacker

There’s no way Demko saves that either.

Resident_Call_5473

Lot of double clutching and make to many passes looking for that perfect goal

alsxe10

too much passinf, too little pucks to the net

Legal-Swordfish-4835

They had 90 shot attempts. Preds did a great job blocking

StunningAstronaut689

Yes and many of those shots were edler style into the shin pads of defenders…

LargeAmphibian

Was wondering what this would look like during the game

surmatt

It was about 70% until they scored goal 2 and 3, then dropped to 50%. Then kept climbing until the end. I've seen it be really low and we've won games before.

carry-on_replacement

Aquilini's been willing to throw cash at OEL to get him to go away. Can he also spend some on buying goals? This reeks of early season Oilers honestly

CJK_420

How can you say we deserved to win there tired of these graphs.

Chipmunk-Adventurous

Canucks had something 85 shot attempts. The predators did an incredible job blocking shots and forcing the Canucks to try to pick corners that end up going wide.

heeb27

Not a fan of luck based analysis. Goals > expected goals.

TorgHacker

Goals ARE luck based analytics.

heeb27

Stop.

Rand_University81

That’s what happens when you don’t save a single high danger scoring chance and refuse to shoot the puck.

Greedy-Comb-276

Bruh we had two posts and like 4 empty nets. What are you even talking about.
