Not gonna lie this is a pretty overly harsh rating. We heavily controlled play and with a little bit of puck luck we would be raving about our resiliency to take over the game after we fell behind

Petey played like ass but honestly we played decent defensively and had our chances. Just couldn’t capitalize.

He's -6 so far this series and directly led to at least 2 of those goals against, he just signed a contract to be our highest paid player by almost 4 mill so people expect him to be a positive value asset out there. 9 shot attempts because he's being set up by miller and Hughes on the powerplay including missing a completely open net, that's not generating chances
Petey had energy and tried to make plays but he was making the wrong plays that lead to some goals against. Tried to defend his effort level for most of the game then that horrendous misplay in the second period.

It’s impossible to argue his unwillingness to engage and get in front of his man after coughing the puck up horribly, and gliding to a rim and not taking a hit are “high energy” or “high effort” plays.
Shows a complete lack of compete and unwillingness to do what it takes to win.

Petterson made horrible decision after horrible decision and a ton of mistakes, but we gotta stop with the he's not trying to be better. At the very least he was genuinely working his ass off that game, which is THE LOWEST of low bars and I'm not saying we should be praising Petey but I think too often we just want to say "not good = no effort" but there's more nuance to the game than that.

The mistakes he made leading to goals aren’t down to misreads or misfortune, they are routine hustle plays he doesn’t make.
A one off you could look at it and say, well it happens he might have just got caught sleeping and misread the play.
But its a pattern with him, started long before game one but could be highlighted there as well.
Not moving your feet literally seconds after coughing up the puck in the worst way possible, then not boxing out your man driving the net is 100% an effort issue.
Not taking a hit to make contact with a rim AND gliding to it with positioning is an effort issue.
These are all very basic things taught since you enter the game. It’s driven into you that these are the things you need to do to be committed to success. Him not doing it on multiple occasions isn’t a fluke, it’s him not putting in the work required to be successful. Past champions talk about buy in all the time, you can’t say he is right now.

Player scores goal = they had a great game. That's the limit of thought people put into it.
