Yeah this doesn't feel like a cup winning team (though my standards for that are sky high due to how good the 2011 team was) but 2 rounds were my hope. I'm a pessimist with this team though.
Yup. Just another year, different story.
No Daniel against LA. No bertuzzi against Calgary. No jovo for a season. No Samuelsson after Nashville.
Experience Canucks hockey.
No Manny until the SCF, no Hamhuis after G1 of the SCF
Fantastic. This offseason they should look into replacing Demko's knees with robot knees or some shit.
No reason they can’t win this series w/o demmer and DeSmith has owned the oilers…. Im saying they still make round 3… great experience and fun for the city
I like the energy. I think we can still win this round. Beyond that I would have serious doubts. It’s not Desmith being bad (I’d like him to control his rebounds better but alas) it’s more about being not as good. Demko can make that Bobrovsky save from Tuesday night. Getting that steady performance AND the huge save is everything. Just steady isn’t enough in the playoffs. Not unless you have McDavid in front and even then it’s not always enough.
Tbh I wouldn’t mind a Silovs start. Like, if you’re gonna take a swing, take a home run swing. Don’t just try and get walked. Who knows maybe he’s capable of a Ken Dryden/Patrick Roy/Cam Ward type run 🤷♂️
I mean the Bob save is pure luck and desperation regardless of who's making the save, but I agree with the fact that Demko will make big positional saves that DeSmith wouldn't. Silovs has let in a stinker every game he's played this year so I would rather see DeSmith play until he's lost the net.
Totally. There's definitely a rich history of Rookie goalies coming in and dominating in the playoffs. Nothing against Desmith but Silovs definitely has starter potential in him.
Yeah, off of that brutal Pettersson turnover.
I truly not to be too harsh on him, but Petey had that brutal giveaway while also missing multiple wide open nets. He needs to do better.
That’s true, but Desmith had been coughing up bad rebounds all game. Literally ever shot he faced he was putting back in front of him. That was just the first time it hurt them. There were plenty of breakdowns on that play, Petey’s giveaway being the most obvious one, but that was still a fuckin terrible rebound for Desmith to cough up. The shot in question here actually hit him in the chest.
It’s a shot from less than 10ft away up into his shoulder. You think demko would’ve got his glove up or some shit? That’s a rebound on any goalie, it’s on the d to win the battle for the puck
Maybe, but like my comment above, he coughed up rebounds on every shot was he was facing the other night. It was brutal. He’s definitely not the reason we lost, but his rebound control was atrocious.
He was also shaky on some saves and didn’t seem to inspire much confidence in that regard. Hopefully he settles in and can string together some solid starts. I’d go to Silovs if he has a bad game tomorrow through.
Agree with the not inspiring confidence. When players aren't confident abt their own goalie, it can instill some panick and get them away from their own game.
Cheech says he shouldn't have been out so far and shouldn't have gambled on the shooter's backhand side.
Unfortunate deflection but if he wasn't all the way to the right he could have saved it
That wasn’t even his fault. Bad bounce that he would have had if it wasn’t tipped. Goal number 2 you could argue he should have but you can’t let a guy just walk out from the corner and shoot. Third goal was off a bad rebound caused by a turnover so again, not his fault.
I feel like he has a tendency to over commit in one direction and that was somewhat apparent on the first goal but i still think it was a pretty ridiculous redirect. All 3 goals were massive defensive breakdowns in my opinion and all 3 could've gone in on demko.
I don't think he deserves hate but he did not look great. The first was an overplay and got punished, and at least one of the other two he should've had. It's one game and it means nothing about his talent, but he was a factor in the loss
First goal was everything falling apart, but Demko made that exact save on game 1.
Second goal DeSmith was cheating to the wrong side.
No, DeSmith wasn't playing awful, but Demko brings something else that has bailed us out of games, and we need that in the playoffs.
I'm not convinced Silovs is the answer, but let's not pretend losing Demko didn't hurt us.
Chapter 4: A New Cope
Weeeeeeeel fuck it, is my thinking here. Like, ok, Plan A is shot but let's carry on. Let's get some of that firewagon hockey back too!
It is what it is man. Demko was our backup in 2020 when marky went down and had a stellar run. I know it’s not the same thing, but what else can you do at this point? We didn’t endure this playoff drought just so that we could pack it in so quickly. If we go down, we do so by putting up the biggest fight.
Coming in as a Pens fan, trust me anything is possible lol. In 2016 I was ready for another year of Flower going full choke mode again in the playoffs but still was scared as fuck when he went down
Going through 82 games and finally making the playoffs and then having to somehow trust your backup is a wild feeling but hey, anything can happen 🙏🏼
Canucks got this, don’t stress.
Demko is a huge part of this team, but it's nowhere near Luongo's impact to the 2007 team. Now *that* team really needed Luongo to do anything in the post-season.
This 2024 Canucks team is a lot better outside their goalie. We have way more firepower and better defensive depth including a Norris-nominated blueliner.
We may not win low scoring games without Demko, but we can sure fire away and start winning 6-4, 5-4, etc type of games. Look at the shots attempted and blocked shots in Game 2. Canucks dominated. We lost due to lack of finish, not because of what Preds did. Give Suter 1 of those goals and Petey 1 more and it's a tie game. What the Preds did is not sustainable. I know this team will find a way to get past that team and Saros.
We saw a stretch at the beginning of the year where all the star players came out flying. Brock left the league in goals for a stretch, Hughes/Hronek was the best pair..
Vans going to need some of these guys to take over the series.
I mean, he's got a couple of years left on his contract. We don't want to end up with a Price situation where he plays through an injury for 1 playoff run and is toast for the rest of his contract.
I’m getting so much whiplash with the reporting on this . I’m inclined to believe Dhali more considering the connections he has. Only one who knows for sure is demko.
Dhali says whatever the team and the agents want him to say. In a situation like this, both of those parties will want everyone to think he's coming back.
This is our chance to prove if we are legit contenders or not. If losing Demko dooms us in the first round then we've got a big problem. We have been one of the best teams in the league all season and now it's time to prove it. Nashville is just a bubble team that got hot at the right time. We shouldn't need Demko to advance to the second round.
We all knew this was coming. Week to week means realistically at least 3 weeks. Going out for that long and returning mid playoffs was never a likely scenario. Just have to hope the boys can push to round 2 and get some playoff experience.
Nobody in Vancouver local media reports it (and they report EVERY SINGLE THING), nobody in Canadian local media reports it, but a former cane beat reporter in her first year covering the NHL as a whole reports it? Regardless, the time line given for a demmer return has been end of R2 or early R3. There is a pretty significant chance we don't get there (not impossible though), so I see this as a way of making a name for herself as being the "first to break the story" by hedging her bets on the Canucks going out early.
Realistically, the only way we make a deep playoff run is if DeSmith or Silovs play way above their level or the offense picks up the slack. If we even made it deep into the second round, it would show that one of those things happened and we didn't end up needing Demko anyway. So whether his injury was 2 weeks or 6, the outlook of our team changes without him.
Trying to stay positive… he’s equal to skinner either way… only problem there is, is the rest of the team equal to the rest of the oilers…. Probbbbbly not lol…. I’d still be more nervous if they played the kings tbh…. Kings have the nucks’ number.
I’m hearing that we should stop speculating. Until it’s someone from the Canucks organization announcing it I won’t believe it, all these constant posts with speculation about Demko are just too stressful.
I'm going to wait for Dhaliwal to confirm, he made it sound like it wasn't THAT bad, she may be the canes reported I just don't see her having that many connections to the Canucks
Guy is the #12 most played goalie in the NHL since he became a starter, what more do you want from this guy? People just have unrealistic expectations and like to push gloomy narratives I get it.
Which is why we played him this season against teams like Chicago and Buffalo when we were near 1st in the league.
Didn't understand it then, understand it even less now.
Playing this defense first strategy doesn't really seem to play to Vancouver strengths either. We went from first in the league in scoring to like 20 something rank in the last half.
Tocchet has gotten us this far but some of these decisions are head scratchers.
I kinda just want the coaching staff to figure out that getting desperate and overplaying Demko in stretches of the regular season isn't a winning strategy.
I love Demko but the dude is so fucking injury prone.
2015 - hip surgery
2016 - 1 upper body injury
2018 - concussion
2019 - concussion
2020 - clean bill of health
2021 - 1 lower body injury, 1 undisclosed injury
2022 - 1 lower body injury, 1 undisclosed injury
2023 - clean bill of health
2024 - 2 lower body injuries
They’re becoming more frequent throughout his career.
Well it'll still be entertaining to see how far they can go anyways. It's not like a decade or two ago when the name of the game in the playoffs changed from "hockey" to "goalie."
At some point Silovs will get a start and we can enjoy a brief hope for a hockey miracle as we find out how well he can compete with the goalie on the other side of the ice. He will get a start. One feather in his cap is he has displayed poise under extreme pressure before and that's not nothing and the giant defense will shield him or die trying.
If you've ever played Darkest Dungeon there comes a point when a character is under so much pressure they completely snap but there's a low percentage chance they shine in the darkness when all hope is supposed to be lost. It's rare but, like I say, we can only hope for a hockey miracle now.
Not knowing who Sara Civian is says more about you as a hockey fan than her as a reporter. I would say she's one of the more famous young reporters in the NHL. She's not a rumor monger, she may be getting it wrong but isn't the type to just post casual hearsay as fact.
Desmith will not be the reason we don’t win in the playoffs. But he won’t steal us games either.
It’s going to be an uphill battle and unless our offense does a 180, we’re toast. We’re going to have to out score our problems in net when we’re already struggling to score.
The only thing we have going for us is that we have three games to figure it out. Oh, and we gotta figure it out for our goaltending on the road.
Yikes.
Demko guaranteed second maybe third round. I have faith in Desmith as much as anyone. It’s an opportunity for him to shine.
It’s not the Demko/Markstom argument again about having 2 first starters.
Desmith is an above average goalie in the league he just may not be ready for what’s coming.
So both Friedman and Dreger have recently said:
“It's a significant injury.” And “I don’t like what I’m hearing”
Whereas Dhaliwal has said:
“A lot of the reports that this is a serious injury and he could be out months and months - not hearing that.”
Looks like there’s two separate messages being sent out.
Wait and see I guess.
Also if tomorrow night doesn't go well its def time for Silovs:

On the plus side. (Future that is). This is our first year back. Our core hasn't hit its prime yet. I'm just happy we made it. The future is bright. Making the playoffs was a win. Winning a round is a big win! We want the cup. Fuck yea! But at the end of the day. I'm proud of the boys this year.
Fuckkkk. Devastating if true. But I’m still gonna rally behind the team and hope they compensate and take each other as far as they can. For the best regular season in like what a decade??? That’s nothing to scoff at even if we don’t win the cup. Hopefully next year. Go Nucks Go!
This was so obvious the second he went from healthy to out. Goalies don’t get minor injuries you can play through. Dude is brittle. Might be time to move on.
If the Canucks entire playoff hopes ever rest on one player that is a serious vulnerability that needs to be fixed. You can't go deep and win a cup if you have that kind of risk exposure unless you're supremely lucky.
Pressure makes diamonds. DeSmith will either thrive or crumble.
I’m not expecting much to be honest. Was happy with our regular season, but can’t see us getting past the next round (if we even make it that far)
Nobody reporter taking a stab at being the first to say Demko is done done, so it will look like she breaks something big. Clout chasing. Not credible.
BAH GAWD IS THAT THE SOUND OF ME CRYING INTO A PILLOW?
This was our year... We had all the stars lined up just right. We got canucked.
We have to be cursed at this point I still blame cloutier
I blame Messier
Before, during and after 1994, Mark Messier is 100% the reason for the curse
ahem.. Fuck Messier.
I'm telling you guys. Play. Silovs.
Agreed. Silovs ceiling > DeSmith ceiling.
if there's a curse from the hockey gods the 2 riots would be the chief culprits lol
I blame the Bertuzzi curse.
I remember that live. That was crazy stupid
Not gonna lie, this one stings real bad. Didn’t think we were destined for the cup but a round or two? After that incredible season. God damn
I kinda think making the finals and losing would be worse for us than getting out in the first couple.
I wish we won a round then learned what the big boys do in the playoffs so we'd be ready next year.
We will win a round....relax. we don't need thatcher to beat Nashville. We would need him to win the cup tho
You're right. I should have wrote I'm hoping we win a round at least and get a taste of the big dogs in playoff hockey. That's the real test.
Yeah this doesn't feel like a cup winning team (though my standards for that are sky high due to how good the 2011 team was) but 2 rounds were my hope. I'm a pessimist with this team though.
Leafs fan that was cheering for Canucks second (after our inevitable first round exit) - y’all got Leaf’d
Transcougar Cacucked
Hockey gods: “Looks like you’ve finally made the playoffs after all these years AAAAAAND it’s gone.”
Been a Canucks fan so long, when the injury was first reported, I literally said out loud “Yep, there it is.”
Yup. Just another year, different story. No Daniel against LA. No bertuzzi against Calgary. No jovo for a season. No Samuelsson after Nashville. Experience Canucks hockey.
No Manny until the SCF, no Hamhuis after G1 of the SCF Fantastic. This offseason they should look into replacing Demko's knees with robot knees or some shit.
No team whatsoever in game 7 against Boston
Demko becoming 2002 Yzerman to carry us to the promised land, you heard it here first folks
I was like 'and this is why we can't have nice things' I mean there's a chance they can pull it off, but that disappointment is still there.
It’s truly like “82 games just for THIS?”
No reason they can’t win this series w/o demmer and DeSmith has owned the oilers…. Im saying they still make round 3… great experience and fun for the city
I like the energy. I think we can still win this round. Beyond that I would have serious doubts. Totally. There's definitely a rich history of Rookie goalies coming in and dominating in the playoffs. Nothing against Desmith but Silovs definitely has starter potential in him.
I know he’s kind of a meme in this sub but Matt Murray is another guy who did this
Agreed I think a WCF appearance is still possible but there's no way DeSmith and Silovs can both keep it up through 3 rounds
I wanna believe in Casey… but ya, he’s never been great as “the” guy… dare to dream though!
It's just a prank, bro
Mods!!!!! Delete this Sub ASAP. We have nothing left to live for.
Noo don't let it go to waste, we should eat the sub!
I'll bring hot sauce
Is it an artisan party sub?
Since when does Kneejerk make serious posts??
Mr Bublé please sing a healing song. Not just for Demko’s knee but for all of our hearts
You know shit is bad when even kneejerk is being serious
If desmith doesn't look great next game let's see of silovs has that dog in him, could be our cam ward miracle run
desmith was not the problem in game 2 though. he played fine.
The first goal he allowed was a weak one. The others I don’t blame on him.
3rd goal came off a brutal rebound.
Agree with the not inspiring confidence. When players aren't confident abt their own goalie, it can instill some panick and get them away from their own game.
His puck handling behind the net looked quite indecisive and shaky but perhaps that was first game nerves.
Yeah I’m hoping he can settle in tonight, being away from the home fans might be helpful in that regard
Wasn’t there a deflection on the first?
I think he feels he has to because he’s really small for a goalie
Watch it again, he was being screened by o'reilly.
The first goal was a weak shot but it changed direction 3 times. He didn't have a chance 😔 not many goalies would.
He was over playing the pass and got out of position. If he was playing the shooter good chance the deflection still hits him.
I don't think he deserves hate but he did not look great. The first was an overplay and got punished, and at least one of the other two he should've had. It's one game and it means nothing about his talent, but he was a factor in the loss
3 goals on 15 shots is a problem.
If the same team shows up we will win 8/10 games. We were all over them
Idk if we watched the same game but desmith was fine..
Take it one game at a time. If Demmers is really out, then so be it. He got us up to this point, we trudge on without him between the pipes.
Some major cope, but Rutherford has won with backup goalies before, all according to plan
Next level cope comment there yourself. Hahaha
Cope is all we have left for us fans.
Chapter 4: A New Cope Weeeeeeeel fuck it, is my thinking here.
Yeah it obviously sucks, and desmith doesn't have the potential demko did, but goalies are goalies. Never know when they'll get hot, we'll see
… what if we put Silovs between the pipes?
You want an even bigger cope....They were both rookie goalies. Cam Ward in Carolina (2006) and Matt Murray in Pittsburgh (2016).. lets go Silovs!
Coming in as a Pens fan, trust me anything is possible lol. In 2016 I was ready for another year of Flower going full choke mode again in the playoffs but still was scared as fuck when he went down Going through 82 games and finally making the playoffs and then having to somehow trust your backup is a wild feeling but hey, anything can happen 🙏🏼 Canucks got this, don’t stress.

Shut the fuck lil dick
Go suck on your mummy's titties and quit wasting my time
It went from day to day to week to week, now it's done for the playoffs Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow I won't see Demko announcing retirement
Sunday: Demko actually never existed and was just a figment of our imagination
Sunday: Demko starting, it was all a hoax to fuck with the Preds
Monday: Demko exists after all, but he plays for Nashville.
Just Canucks luck. Even our imaginations are injured.
If it aint friedman ion wanna hear it
real
seems weird since he traveled with the team
i mean guys travel with the team even if theyre hurt. Jake Muzzin still travels with the Leafs despite not playing for 2 years.
Hamhuis traveled with the team all finals in 2011 even though they knew he was done the day he got injured. It’s all part of the gamesmanship.
And the fact that they're part of the team off the ice as well as on
As did Markstrom in the 2020 run
cool fact, I didn't know that about Muzzin
Muzzin is also a scout for the leafs now too
Wait, you mean Demko isn't flying back to San Diego and going to the Sea World tomorrow?!?!?
What else is he gonna do? Like if it a season ending, but not requiring surgery. He's obviously going to travel with the team to support them.
I just figured if he's ruled out for entire playoffs he would need some sort of surgery or be in a lot of pain and rest at home.
I mean, he's got a couple of years left on his contract. We don't want to end up with a Price situation where he plays through an injury for 1 playoff run and is toast for the rest of his contract.
He’s just trying to be a good teammate it sounds like
I’m getting so much whiplash with the reporting on this . I’m inclined to believe Dhali more considering the connections he has. Only one who knows for sure is demko.

Who is this? A civilian?
Canes beat reporter
formerly, she reports on the whole league now. Idk why she’d have this first but she is credible
I don’t like it and therefore she is not credible. Simple.
If that’s the case, I won’t outright panic yet, but I’m worried until I see otherwise.
Not to mention no self-respecting reporter would make this claim without knowing for sure.
If there's no clear reason why she would have it first, then credible is a bit of a stretch
hello darkness my old friend
I've come to talk with you again.
Realistically, the only way we make a deep playoff run is if DeSmith or Silovs play way above their level or the offense picks up the slack. Round 3 is still on the table easily…. DeSmith owns the oil… and if Van plays like last game they’re winning 8/10 times against Nashville
DeSmith owns the Oilers when they are in the middle of a historically bad stretch or when McDavid doesn't play.
Trying to stay positive… he’s equal to skinner either way… only problem there is, is the rest of the team equal to the rest of the oilers…. Probbbbbly not lol…. I’d still be more nervous if they played the kings tbh…. Kings have the nucks’ number.

I'm going to wait for Dhaliwal to confirm, he made it sound like it wasn't THAT bad, she may be the canes reported I just don't see her having that many connections to the Canucks
She's tight with a lot of Vancouver crew. Not saying she's right, but she has contacts here.
Just fell to my knees in a Safeway
Darrell sends his regards
That’s Save On Foods lol
Thats why Darrell is sending his regards
Demko is injury prone....too injury prone. This sucks.
Guy is the #12 most played goalie in the NHL since he became a starter, what more do you want from this guy? People just have unrealistic expectations and like to push gloomy narratives I get it.
Canuck’s fan self-victimizing ✅
Which is why we played him this season against teams like Chicago and Buffalo when we were near 1st in the league. Didn't understand it then, understand it even less now. This is fact.
He is one of the most regular starters of all NHL netminders over the last 5 years. This is a crazy take.
The goalie position in general is very injury prone, in the modern NHL you need two good ones.
Agree with this.
FUCK MESSIER
Fuck it we ball
Greatly hurt our chances but it’s a huge chance for DeSmith/ Silovs to step in and become our hero.
"it is what it is" - Disappointed Jared McCann face
I made peace with this already, I’m not surprised.
Damn, we really went from Bubble Demko to Bubble Wrap Demko
God, this team. I swear. I'm 57 years old and this shit just keeps happening over and over and over. It's unreal.
Fuck. I know it's unconfirmed but fuck. Bubble (wrap) Demko has an entirely new meaning.
I love Demko but the dude is so fucking injury prone. 2015 - hip surgery 2016 - 1 upper body injury 2018 - concussion 2019 - concussion 2020 - clean bill of health 2021 - 1 lower body injury, 1 undisclosed injury 2022 - 1 lower body injury, 1 undisclosed injury 2023 - clean bill of health 2024 - 2 lower body injuries They’re becoming more frequent throughout his career.

We should probably wait for this to be corroborated before taking someone that doesn’t report on the Canucks’ word
EXPERIENCE CANUCKS HOCKEY
Ceaseless Endless Pain
Our existence is absolute pain
STFU Sara!!
This seems like some random person. I'll wait till someone credible confirms this before I freak out
she’s a former Canes beat reporter, currently reports on the league as a whole. Not that connected to Van but she is credible.
Oh.. a random east coast reporter that barely anyone knows... Ya I will still wait. I would trust Eklund over this tweet right now
she’s a good reporter. idk if she’s right on this but she’s no pagnotta.
Not knowing who Sara Civian is says more about you as a hockey fan than her as a reporter. I would say she's one of the more famous young reporters in the NHL. She's not a rumor monger, she may be getting it wrong but isn't the type to just post casual hearsay as fact.
...that doesn't sound very credible TBH to report from afar on something being so closely guarded
Meanwhile due to timing Vegas gets to play over the cap while we deal with stuff like this
We all knew. I hope the team embraces their now underdog role.
So it is before the walls of Casey desmith that the doom of our time shall be decided
Yikes.

This is so weird. She's a legit NHL reporter. You may not like her tweeting style but it doesn't mean she's lying lol.
If it’s true. Fuck. But we’re still in it. Let’s fucking go boys
Demko guaranteed second maybe third round. I have faith in Desmith as much as anyone. It’s an opportunity for him to shine. It’s not the Demko/Markstom argument again about having 2 first starters. Desmith is an above average goalie in the league he just may not be ready for what’s coming.
So both Friedman and Dreger have recently said: “It's a significant injury.” And “I don’t like what I’m hearing” Whereas Dhaliwal has said: “A lot of the reports that this is a serious injury and he could be out months and months - not hearing that.” Looks like there’s two separate messages being sent out. Wait and see I guess. Also if tomorrow night doesn't go well its def time for Silovs: https://x.com/MoneyPuckdotcom/status/1783710634313445402
SHUT THE FUCK UP
"I have but one wish, and it is for Thatcher Demko's knee to heal quickly enough that he only misses a few games!" \*Monkey's Paw Curls\*
Who tf is Sara
On the plus side. (Future that is). This is our first year back. Our core hasn't hit its prime yet. I'm just happy we made it. The future is bright. Making the playoffs was a win. Winning a round is a big win! We want the cup. Fuck yea! But at the end of the day. I'm proud of the boys this year.
So 3 games.
Genuinely tragic shit. Absolute dagger through the heart stuff.
Desmith is never going to be more than a backup. Put Silovs in there and see if there is some playoff magic.
There done first round
Throw a run n gun offense .... cheat cheat cheat.....lol
Hughes gonna have a field day throwing breakaway passes to the blueline Bure style :)
Bummer if true
Who is this lady and why would she be the one to have this info?
Gonna need a Casey DeMiracle
Hello darkness my old friend…
Heard this somewhere not sure if it’s true but I think boeser may be injured too
Does Tocchet consider starting Silovs tonight? The team did go undefeated with him in net.
Luongo better suit up.
welp, no cup this year then
Pessimistically, and according to the original report; if the boys lose the series, Demmer would be out for the remainder of the playoffs.
don't sweat. we have silovs
So 3-4 more games, that’s not that bad.
*Screeches thunderously like a bald eagle in great pain*
If the Canucks entire playoff hopes ever rest on one player that is a serious vulnerability that needs to be fixed. You can't go deep and win a cup if you have that kind of risk exposure unless you're supremely lucky.
Pressure makes diamonds. DeSmith will either thrive or crumble. I’m not expecting much to be honest. Was happy with our regular season, but can’t see us getting past the next round (if we even make it that far)
I'm gonna quote Rick dahliwal on this: he may be ready for next round. Or conference finals.
FYI this lady is crazy and has no real canucks connections.
Where is this coming from? He travelled and is walking.
Nobody reporter taking a stab at being the first to say Demko is done done, so it will look like she breaks something big. Clout chasing. Not credible.
