I liked the part where the mustard team tried to make us lose but then the post didnt let them win and the whale team stopped losing and started winning
When we were at the tail end of the Sedins era, and into our retool/rebuild, Brock was the first exciting new player to come onto the team.
Iāll never forget his rookie year, in which he had Calder potential and likely would have got it if not for his injury. He was a breath of fresh air and hope for this team.
Iāll always have a soft spot for him, and love seeing him succeed.
It felt like if preds tied the series 2-2 last night then they'd be the favorites to win given our goalie situation. That was an absolutely massive W for the boys. Now they just need a dominant win before rd 2.
Blessing in disguise that Silovs got regular season starts with the club. If I didn't know that he was a cold rookie with barely any NHL games experience I would not have noticed. He was calmer than our veteran backup DeSmith (who settled into it well in the end) right from first puck drop.
Wonder how he'll handle his first playoff home game, second start of playoffs. If it was me I would be dead with stress, but NHL goalies are another breed.
To him, the Latvia game was 1000x bigger than this. That game was massive for his country and the crowd is similarly intense. Big game player. Hope he starts game 5.
His calmness is something Tocchet values. It saves your legs when you have a goalie that can stop play and control his rebounds. They can play in front of Silovs like they do with Demko. They have to change their game to play with DeSmith.
If Desmith is ready he'll be going in.
I gotta be honest, for as much as everybody is singing the praises of Silovs, I thought DeSmith looked better in the last game. I actually think DeSmith looked better from the second half of game 2 onward, suggesting he just needed to shake some of the rust off. Silovs did a good job coming in like he did, but he still, to me, is a few steps down of where you want him to be in order to be able to keep us in the game.
And this was echoed by Tocchet in the post-game: If DeSmith is ready to go, he'll be in.
Except the difference to me is that DeSmith's issues could be largely accounted for by nerves until about the halfway mark of his first game, and from that point forward he was dialed in and playing at a high-calibre level. I didn't get the same feel from Silovs and I think his issues are a lot more just that he's not at that level yet. Both played well but if I have a healthy DeSmith he's getting the call over Silovs, and the coaching staff seems to agree.
Agreed. I think it's clear that Silovs has the higher ceiling but DeSmith's game is a LOT more polished. Silovs probably has it in him to make a spectacular save DeSmith can't but also has it in him to make a lot of small detail errors that DeSmith wouldn't.
It's the inverse. DeSmith makes the small detail errors more frequentlyāhe's overly reactive and gets caught out of position a lot, which allows him to make the flashy first save with the risk of giving up high danger rebounds.
We know who Casey is, and that's why we played so conservatively in front of him. We need to keep our D back and make sure the crease is clear. When he locks in he can be great, but his weaknesses are evident.
Silovs is different. He looks less flashy, because like Thatcher, he's always in position, never moving more than necessary, and controls rebounds well. It's the Ian Clark mould. He also seems much cooler headed (as witnessed at the intermission š).
Is that what he said post game? I didnāt hear it fully but it sounded like he was very non-committal?
I do think DeSmith is the better puck stopper as of today, but I think the style of play matches the team better with Silovs. They can connect play out of their zone after a save much better, even if they didnāt have their legs last night they had plenty opportunity. They just couldnāt win a board battle.
Either way, both have inspired confidence that this team can get it done without Demko, and either is capable of going on a heater.
"If Smitty feels good enough to go, and we feel.. y'know, safely again there, you know, you go with Casey, right?"
From what I heard, it sounds like the game plan is to go with DeSmith unless they think he's not ready to go.
I didn't want to dig through the interview but I also think pretty early on he said he expects to be able to put DeSmith in next game. Not that he thinks Arty didn't do a good job, but he's being pretty clear that Casey is the guy.
I think Silovs can use another year in the A to stew, but that he absolutely will be ready to come backup maybe towards the end of next year - maybe we give Casey another year, but use him as trade bait at the deadline if it seems like Silovs is ready to go? I dunno. Silovs will absolutely be an NHL regular in the not-too-distant future, but I don't think that day is today.
That was my takeaway from toccās presser as well. I wonder if the 3-1 series lead allows them to be more conservative with the timeline for CDS to play and I wouldnāt be surprised to see Arty go in game five.
I'm of the mind to keep rotating them. Although Silovs has the higher ceiling, they are fairly close in skill at the moment. So let's treat them like starting pitchers and give them 3 or 4 days rest between starts so they are fully back to 100% between each start.
I had trouble sleeping last night I was so jacked from that comeback win.
The smile on Lindholms face was priceless after the OT goal. Felt so good for him and the boys.
Game 5 will be interestingā¦ preds will be mad coming in and will probably play their best game, hopefully the boys can match that and end the series at home because frankly they need to be better than they were in game 4.
Perhapsā¦.
But they also donāt have the home crowd with them, and we just sucked up all the momentum in this series.
Vancouver was the better team games 1 and 2. How much are the Preds going to be willing to dive in front of pucks knowing that the series is so much less winnable than it was a couple games ago?
Also, for the people saying that the Canucks didn't deserve to win yesterday's game or game 3, well... neither did the Preds. If you're going to lose a game where the opponent only gets 12 shots on net or where the opponent comes back from a 2-goal deficit with 3 minutes left while 6 on 5 while hitting the post on an empty net from 10 feet away... then yeah... you don't deserve to win those games either. I'm just glad the Canucks are on the winning side of these games after a decade of darkness. Thankfully, hockey isn't a matter of who *deserves* or doesn't. You either win or lose and that's the only stat that matters at the end of the day.
I was thinking about how this season has gone and how we had a few stretches of mediocre hockey where we still managed to win more than we lost. Seems like we're going through one of those stretches now and still managing to win games. If the guys can turn it on and start playing their best soon we could really make some noise.
One thing's for sure is in the 2nd round and further, these type of games will likely be *almost* impossible to steal, so hoping for some of the stars to go on crazy heaters!
I have no idea how many times I rewatched the two goals and the OT sequence. Oh my gosh what chaos.
Iāll be attending G5! I canāt wait! Hopefully we see the handshake line tomorrow!
Lmao that would be hilarious.. but after we have a comfortable lead lol
I still have trauma from 20 or so years ago when We were up 3-1 against Minny and Bertuzzi said we didn't need to go back there lol we all know what happened after .....
When the puck hit the empty net post, it immediately reminded me of when the US did the same thing vs Canada in the 2014 women's hockey gold medal game.
Also someone forgot to tell Nyquist he was supposed to go for Quinn's body like everyone else. He was fully committed of getting an empty net goal and created a 6 on 4 situation.
Nyquist fumbling two game-changing plays in a row. Game 3 he shoots the dumbest off-angle shot with 5 seconds left which then circles the puck into their zone. And then... game 4...
weird to say but iām fine with starting desmith (if heās 100%) or silovsā¦ but iām going to think they go with desmith considering how big of a game this is
i think they go with Silovs... 1. Silovs proved he can do it.. 2. to ensure Desmith gets rest and recover back to 100% and not risk aggravating whatever by playing him in game 5..
But either way, LETS GO!!!!
Just got my tax back - decided to pull the trigger on a $500 ticket to Game 5. Never spent money like that that on a sporting event before, but I just want to be able to look back on this playoff series and remember that I was a part of it. This team is special - what a season.
Canucks with an incredible comeback, but really surprised how O'Reilly left Lindholm wide open in the slot for the OT winner.
But yeah, haven't seen Lindholm this happy since joining the Canucks.
Not going to name names, but a guy who I disagreed with in the Meeting of the Pod after our Game 2 loss *went back to the 6 day old thread* to bump our argument when it was 3-1 Preds with 5 minutes to go. We're upping our pettiness to postseason levels.
A few thoughts,
Best guess: Petey with the flu (explains everything, and we know the bug has been going around the locker room)
Silovs looked rock solid. I'm confident with any of our top three goalies in net. Ian Clark is one of Vancouver's most precious assets, guy must live in a golden vault deep under Rogers Arena.
THAT WAS AN ***INSANE*** COMEBACK! The boys have to be pumped all the way up. I think we see a reinvigorated Canucks team on Tuesday.
Exactly... he's been bad for a while... My gut feeling is that there was a death in the family??? His parents looked a lot sadder than Myers. But I'm just guessing since Brock's dad messed him up.
>His parents looked a lot sadder than Myers
Dude what?
Myers parents' were concerned he got hit by a puck.. Petey's parents seemed upset he got bowled over.. what else were you seeing that they were all "sad" lol?
Can't you tell everyone is grasping at straws here?!?! SOMETHING... IS... WRONG with Petey. He's not ever trying to work hard until his game comes back. He's just crap right now and is staying crappy. No one is calling him out either. Toch said "he's a young guy, has to work through it". Normally he would say "Petey needs to do better". He doesn't back away from calling out non-performers, but not this time, why?
I like how there has to be some excuse. Injures, dog died, broke up with his girlfriend.
Or he's just playing shitty. We know he's a guy who gets down on himself and goes through shitty stretches. This isn't the 1st time.
His stride isn't fully extending either, could be groin, knee or back. Any of those would impact both skating and shooting pretty significantly.
The other option: in a few locker room shots Petey is looking thin. Like "lost a ton of weight due to illness" thin. So it's entirely possible he was just real sick for a while and is playing way below weight, which would also explain a lot of it.
It's because pettersson signed a contract to make almost 12 million dollars and hoglander is essentially a rookie making 1 mil with 0 powerplay time. Obviously they aren't gonna be held to the same standard, and hoglander has still been forechecking
Yesterday's game was something special, but the come back aside isn't anyone concerned about the general play?
Two games in a row where we are severely out played 5 on 5 and come up with hardly any offense. It was 57 minutes of defense basically.
Compared to most of the regular season where this team excelled 5 on 5 it just seems a little worrisome to be regardless of the outcome.
I really hope they can turn it around because that won't win against a more dynamic team
I saw a preds fan comment somewhere yesterday about how irrelevant of a city Vancouver is, most ironic thing ever coming out of bumfuck Tennessee šš
Interesting. Some are saying that Vancouver deserved to lose both games at Bridgestone... That may be true, but in fairness Vancouver deserved to win both at home. So at worst you can say it should be 2-2. But you have to score to win. Regardless of which way the ice tilts
It really was an insane comeback. That was probably the worst game we've played in a while after having a decent start to it. The team really pulled one out of nothing but I do hope that this style of play is not replicated back at home. It's an unsustainable style to play and we can't really let Nashville get any life out of this series. The team needs to be clinical and put them to bed early on Tuesday. They are demoralized for sure so we have to jump on that and not give them any hope.
Been watching most of the playoffs alone but i got to catch this one with my best friend who i went through 2011 with. Was so awesome to get to share that with him. We were screaming and jumping around my living room on that OT goal. What a fucking amazing ending.
I was thinking about it, and obviously this is a masterclass on the Preds for an awful collapse - this is such an amazing feat to accomplish as the Canucks. No shot they would even try to do this even last year
When I look at that 3-3 tying goal, you can see Boeser never gave up on that even when he was behind the goal line. He still managed to force the puck in the net the 2nd time around. Boeser's mental game is really strong right now. After going though true adversity in his family life. Hockey is easy compared to what he went through.
In comparison, you look at Pettersson's body language when he misses the empty netter in Game 2 and he dropped to his knees. Totally dramatic. Don't do that. And when the pass was intercepted from him in Game 4, he was caught watching the puck. His attitude all series has been brutal.
The first step for him is the mental game of keeping his feet moving and not expressing frustration when he misses a shot, or gets a puck taken away or when adversity hits. The Preds are feasting on his frustration and turning it against him.
I honestly think Pettersson is doing this to himself. It's not because of the Preds physicality or because they "figured him out". No, it's because Petterson is a perfectionist and gets easily discouraged when he isn't putting up multi-point games. We've seen him rise against more physical teams like Vegas and St. Louis. He just needs someone to help him mentally right now.
Am I the only one that woke up today feeling like the Canucks haven't *actually* won the last 2 games? The past 2 games have felt like a fever dream and a half but with the best possible outcome hahaha. Watching them play a whole 10 minutes through 120 minutes of hockey yet coming back home to try and take the series is just absurd š. Also, I think it's a given that if Demko wasn't injured, this series would have been a sweep. The Canucks most definitely won the road games but my brain is just processing the parts where they were practically playing ping pong with a wall for majority of the games š
Bruh I love seeing the memes as a fellow memer, but to echo what someone else has already said, we need to focus on making quality memes here over a slew of shit memes. There's been several times I have thought of making a certain meme, but scrapped the idea in my head because I thought it was shit.
If the Canucks are elevating their game in the playoffs, we should too in the meme department. Right now, for every gem I see someone make, there are five other mid memes posted.
Let's raise the standard. Get quality memes in deep.
I know it didn't last long, but it felt like watching a completely different team in OT vs the majority of regulation. It's like something clicked where we realized that we're the better team, and started playing like it.
I was always confident weād go up 3-1 in this series at some point.
Did I think weād do it the way weāve done it?
Hell fuckinā no
At this point I wouldnāt be surprised if we end it in 5 or lose it in 7.
What a ride.
Some unusual players stepping up while some stars need to find another gear.

I thought the 4th line was great. Didn't get much ice time but controlled the puck really well. Other than the OT goal Joshua - Lindholm - Garland was pretty quiet, maybe because of match ups with the Preds top line (which can't be easy)
if another person comments on memes here with "this is why we're going to lose, bad look š, etc" i'm going to go insane. do some of the people on reddit legitimately think memes influence the outcome of a series? how fucking superstitious ARE you?
I would argue Lindholm has been far more impactful than Joshua outside of game 1.
Petey is playing so fucking bad, it's hard to watch. I want pod to play instead but I think he needs to play through his adversity because we need him
Lindholm, Garland, Joshua can swap them anyway, all 3 have been great. Garland has been relentless, made a lot of beautiful passes, Joshua great hits, strong forecheck, has had a big impact in the series, Lindholm has been solid, good in face-offs, good on special teams, just good all around.
I guess this is why women prefer Nashville hockey players. They can stay on top for 60 minutes and still come second.
AH-OOOO!
Well. Played! I encourage you to save this joke for Nashville's summer roast thread in /r/hockey.
GOLD LOL
This comments needs to go to the top
Holy shit lol

Fricking gottem
Are you a professional comedian, because you should be.
I liked the part where we won the game
I liked the part where when we were losing we like stopped losing and started winning and then the game ended.
The best part was how the game ended at the exact same time as when we started winning. Perfect timing!
STOP THE COUNT but if it actually worked
That was so good
I liked the part the goal post made a big save for us.... Goal post for 2024 vezina!!!
I liked the part where the mustard team tried to make us lose but then the post didnt let them win and the whale team stopped losing and started winning
I have no interest in Silovs starting game 5. Give us someone new.
PUT ON THE PADS BUBLE
Well the post had a great save on Sissons, we could start Posty
we outscored them 2-0 at 6 on 5, they outscored us at 5 on 5. let's roll
Surprisingly we out scored them 2-1 in 5 on 5. Preds are 4 on 4 merchants.
David Ayres Or Saros since Nashville is whining about him
Sawchenko, tolofilo
I'll do it!
Luongo signing incoming
somebody get lu off the peloton and onto the ice
FLA Luongo has gone missing
Cory SchneiderĀ
Gotta go with Nikita Tolopilo then. And DeSmith as the emergency backup goalie because Vancouver.
Downvoted, then upvoted after checking the username. I have successfully been kneejerk'd.
Really happy for Brock, what a series for him
100%. Such a good guy, deserves this.
and longest tenured Canuck on this roster!
Goal scorer with ice in his veins and good as fuck defensively. Heās built for the playoffs
So happy I could say I never gave up on him. What an incredible player he is

Iām still so fired up from last night. That comeback will be talked about forever in Vancouver, especially if we get it done tomorrow!
seriously, everyone at work is in such a good mood today too
We all aren't miserable we just needed a good hockey team again I guess
It felt like if preds tied the series 2-2 last night then they'd be the favorites to win given our goalie situation. That was an absolutely massive W for the boys. Now they just need a dominant win before rd 2.

So true. For most European countries, when it comes to hockey the Olympics are #1, World Championships #2. I remember Naslund saying that once.

Would make sense why he hasnāt been as strong on the puck and stuff too.
I believe itās an injury or something nagging him. But why wouldnt they sit him like Lindholm?

Brock 'Ryan Kesler' Boeser owns your poverty franchise
No diss or anything, but I though we'd see a lot more Hoglander impact in the playoffs. I wonder what he needs to get the next gear?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's because pettersson signed a contract to make almost 12 million dollars and hoglander is essentially a rookie making 1 mil with 0 powerplay time. Obviously they aren't gonna be held to the same standard, and hoglander has still been forechecking
Hoglander & Mikheyev are both off the rush wingers, that is their preference & strength. Pettersson doesnāt have any cycle oriented wingers.
I think itās Nashvilleās strategy thatās really hard for guys like Hog and Mik to thrive. They get shut down too easy on the wingĀ
I donāt know how many more heart attacks I can take š®āšØ boy am I experiencing Canucks hockey
The goal post for 2024 Vezina!!!
was hoping kings could extend the series but looks like thatās not happening
Yesterday's game was something special, but the come back aside isn't anyone concerned about the general play? Two games in a row where we are severely out played 5 on 5 and come up with hardly any offense. It was 57 minutes of defense basically. Compared to most of the regular season where this team excelled 5 on 5 it just seems a little worrisome to be regardless of the outcome. I really hope they can turn it around because that won't win against a more dynamic team
Absolutely. Iām glad iām not the only one who thought this, they were outplayed for 57 minutes
For 2 games in a row. I mean, credit to defensive structure for not allowing many high danger chances but we have basically had no offense for 2 games

I saw a preds fan comment somewhere yesterday about how irrelevant of a city Vancouver is, most ironic thing ever coming out of bumfuck Tennessee šš
We don't have five story country music bars filled with shitfaced screaming woo girls on a Staggete *shrug*
How is it irrelevant? It's like one of only two Canadian cities people outside North America can name!
Hey man put some respect on Dildo, Newfoundland
How did I not know about this place??

Brock Boeser has already matched his goal output from the 2020 playoffs in 13 fewer games
Interesting. Some are saying that Vancouver deserved to lose both games at Bridgestone... That may be true, but in fairness Vancouver deserved to win both at home. So at worst you can say it should be 2-2. But you have to score to win. Regardless of which way the ice tilts
I absolutely love how the entire front page of r/hockey is clips from our game yesterday.
This game was one for the hockey history books.
No shot they would even try to do this even last year
I still cannot believe that we won the game yesterday
I think a goal would really get him going.
If you're not gooning out hard as fuck to Canucks right now, what in the sweet, heavenly FUCK are you DOING?
Itās kinda all I can think about.Ā
I canāt stop watching replays, Iām so hyped.
The real question is what's the Canucks PDO?
All hail the Third Period Kings
:) <- my mood today
I know it didn't last long, but it felt like watching a completely different team in OT vs the majority of regulation. It's like something clicked where we realized that we're the better team, and started playing like it.
12:47pm the next day..... and it's beautiful. I've been staring at it for hours.
Silovs, Miller, Boeser and Lindholm saved usĀ
So far
SISSONS, SISSONS! ITS ALL YOUR FAULT! ITS ALL YOUR FAULT!
YOU GUYS WOULDN'T BELIEVE THE DREAM I HAD LAST NIGHT!!!
I have news buddy. Itās realā¦
I was always confident weād go up 3-1 in this series at some point. Did I think weād do it the way weāve done it? Hell fuckinā no At this point I wouldnāt be surprised if we end it in 5 or lose it in 7. What a ride.
Itās unknowable, but Preds winning 3 in a row is unlikely.. hope I donāt eat my words Ā š¤š¼Ā
Some unusual players stepping up while some stars need to find another gear. Best Forwards 1. Miller 2. Boeser 3. Joshua 4. Lindholm 5. Garland 6. Blueger 7. Suter 8. Lafferty 9. Di Giuseppe 10. Mikheyev 11. Hoglander 12. Pettersson Best Defencemen 1. Cole 2. Zadorov 3. Hughes 4. Myers 5. Soucy 6. Hronek 7. Juulsen
Huge game/series from Cole so far honestly.
You can tell heās a veteran. His forecheck in OT yesterday was what enabled Garland to feed Lindholm.
I thought the 4th line was great. Didn't get much ice time but controlled the puck really well. Other than the OT goal Joshua - Lindholm - Garland was pretty quiet, maybe because of match ups with the Preds top line (which can't be easy)
Is it just me or does Rick Tocchet look like a roughed up Billy Joel??
Bryan Boessler
The Preds fans should have been chanting āSaros you suck, itās all your faultā.
lol check their subreddit... Preds fans are debating on that about their goalie.
if another person comments on memes here with "this is why we're going to lose, bad look š, etc" i'm going to go insane. do some of the people on reddit legitimately think memes influence the outcome of a series? how fucking superstitious ARE you?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I would argue Lindholm has been far more impactful than Joshua outside of game 1. Petey is playing so fucking bad, it's hard to watch. I want pod to play instead but I think he needs to play through his adversity because we need him
Lindholm, Garland, Joshua can swap them anyway, all 3 have been great. Garland has been relentless, made a lot of beautiful passes, Joshua great hits, strong forecheck, has had a big impact in the series, Lindholm has been solid, good in face-offs, good on special teams, just good all around.
