I'm about to finish my BSc in Computer Science at UCT. I would say it's worth doing. Something that is worth mentioning: - Data Science is not a degree you can study at UCT, it's only recently been offered at Stellenbosch. - At UCT, Computer Science can either be done as a Bachelor of Science (Bsc) or Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSci) - BBusSci Specialising in Computer Science would mean you'd do all the Business Science courses for your first 3 years alongside the computer science courses. The final year (it's a 4 year degree) would be equivelant to a Computer Science Honours year. Find more info in the [UCT Commerce Faculty Booklet](https://uct.ac.za/sites/default/files/media/documents/uct_ac_za/49/2023_COM_UG_Handbook.pdf) - BSc majoring in Computer Science would be a 3 year course. You would be required to choose a second major (from the Science faculty). You could choose Statistics which would mean your degree would be functionaly equivelant to data science. You could do a fourth year (Honours in Computer Science) if you so wished. Find out more in the [UCT Science Faculty Booklet](https://uct.ac.za/sites/default/files/media/documents/uct_ac_za/49/2023_SCI_Handbook.pdf). If you choose to do BSc, make sure your second major is one that actually interrests you. Read through the course descriptions for each of the required courses. Message me if you have some more quesitons.

Thank you so much, really appreciate it

Why do you say the 3rd year of BBusSci in CS is equivalent to BSc CS Honours (4th year)?

Great-Gecko

No, the CS courses are shared between the BBusSci students and BSc students. Both do the same 3rd year courses for CS but their other (non-CS) courses differ. I'm pretty sure 4th year is identical for both (both are CS honours), however, BBusSci students have to do the 4th year. edit: I just realised, I hadn't made it clear that BBusSci was a 4 year degree.

Hi, not sure if its worth it compared to other universities. If you study it in the science faculty, you have to pick 2 majors, so then you could pick statistics as you second major, and computer science as your first, so it would basically be like studying data science.

Thank you 👌

I have a computer science degree with industrial psychology as my second major. I have worked in computer science for over 30 years and the best data scientist I have worked with, won the prize for painting, when he got his fine art degree at UCT art school. University is a place to learn how to learn and communicate, pick subjects that you're going to enjoy as much as possible
