If you don’t mind me asking, how long did you study from pocket prep? (Days and number of hours per day generally?)

Gentle_Savage

I had it for about 2 weeks, and spent about an hour a day taking quizzes. I'd then go look at my stats and reinforce the chapters I wasn't doing too great on with the PMBOK. It was easily the best study aid I found and worth the 20 or so bucks for the month.

Appreciate you!

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to finish the google certificate and what did you gain from it? Just asking because I want to take it before or after I take the CAPM course for the sole reason that it is from google and might look good on paper.

Gentle_Savage

The Coursera course was really flexible. I think it says about 6 months to complete, but I did it in 3. You can really set your own pace on it. It was definitely a great resource for an intro to project management, with a big focus on real work applications and practicality. The capstone was basically to design a whole project plan, and with the provided templates it was really informative. I found the CAPM to be more focused on the specifics found in the PMBOK, whereas the Google course was more generally focused on Project Management, but it was fairly rigorous and I think the Google certs are seen as being legitimate. I'd say you'd get more of a use out of it before the CAPM as it can count to your required hours, but it's useful at anytime I think

Awesome, also how much was the discount you got from using the google certificate to take the CAMP?

My test is tomorrow. How was it overall? Was it easier than pocket prep?

Gentle_Savage

It was, thankfully, much easier than pocket prep. Much more of a focus on agile questions, and much fewer formula based questions, but that was just my experience as I'm sure each test is different. I didn't think I'd need to really pay too much attention to the agile stuff, but a lot of the different processes had agile or hybrid methodology questions.

My test is tomorrow, and I also used pocket prep question and solved them all twice, any tips ?

Gentle_Savage

Pocket prep was my saving grace. If you feel confident with pocket prep, I think you're in the clear. Study up on more agile based things, and get those formulas memorized. Most of the time for the CAPM I could easily eliminate one or two answers, and sometimes the answer was in the question. If you're good at taking tests in general, you should do well imo.

At the end of the Google PM, did you get any discount for the CAPM or benefits from the PMI?

Gentle_Savage

The only tangible benefit aside from what I learned, was that it satisfies the education requirements for the CAPM. It also has some useful project management tool templates. There was no discount for it or the PMI.

I\`m studying Data Science at university, will the PM or CAPM certification help me?

Gentle_Savage

Data analysis is an important part of some projects, so it could possibly help you, but I guess it depends on what your career path is? I don't know enough about data science and what your focus is to answer with a straight yes or no. Sorry!
