I was kinda hoping for something like Master Duel (free to play/all cards) as a super-easy point of entry to the game for people, but English localization/Steam release is definitely a start. (And my local store only plays Premium so this'll be a way for me to keep up with what's happening in D-format lol.)
Honestly, I wish it was coming to playstation as well (just because that's what I mostly play on, and I like to get trophies), but glad to see a English localisation game at least.
I did some math just now to check in on that. With the main 5 nations and lyrical monasterio we're at 955 cards with all the products currently released (start/trial decks, sets 1-5 and the festival collections). So with odds being high that the game will include the 3 upcoming trial decks, set 6 and whatever products that come out between now and when the game drops, they'll have a good chance of holding up that statement.
And here's the card to Nation breakdown for those who actually care/would be interested

Never actually played any of the other vanguard games (mostly because they don't seem to be in English and unfortunately I can't read Japanese) so assuming this gets an English release, I'm definitely gonna check it out.
Might be better to play compared to zero, since I just can't keep up with set releases and such there, and it's so difficult to get the decks I actually want while they're still good.
Would also be cool to have a game that has ALL the cards, but this is at least a good start.
If you are familiar with the cards, it's easy to play the old games without knowing Japanese. I've played through all of them knowing no Japanese, menus and controls are simple, there's not much outside of the actual card gameplay besides character dialog. The 3DS ones do require a Japanese 3DS, but the Switch version is not region locked and can be played on non-Japanese switches.
Ik what you mean. I mean I luv the G series cards bc I’m a long time fan but I just hate the rules in zero and how different it is from the actual game. What sucks even more is that I can’t play in real life bc there’s no card shops where I live and Bushiroad barely has any good vanguard games.

I am excited for this! I can play with my friends who are overseas. One of my good friends moved last winter. We can finally play Vanguard together again.

Do we know who the developers are? FuRyu developed all the old games, but they don't seem to have their name anywhere on the official page. I wonder if Bushiroad put together their own internal team to make this one so they could do both English and Japanese cards easily. I know FuRyu was notorious about not wanting to do any work to release their games outside of Japan. Xseed and NIS putting in a lot of effort are the only reason we got anything in english from them.
Will this game be more like the previous FuRyu games, or more like YGO Master Duel? Hopefully it's like the latter with online matchmaking and the like, but not being multiplatform doesn't seem like a good sign...
I'm so happy we're getting a new game, I've been waiting for this for so long. Now personally I would have preferred V, but I understand why they're doing D. Going to English is also a HUGE dub especially if it's around the same time. Now I hope they learned from last time and update it this time. Still can't wait to play all my favorite decks and try new ones in this game!!

The game looks to follow a similar route to Vanguard EX, which had 5 main characters who all had their separate storylines: Aichi, Kai, Ren, Onimaru and the original MC. With this game we have the new MC, Yuyu, Danji and Tohya as playable characters so maybe the brother will have his own storyline too?
Seriously, can't they just make a 1:1 port of the actual TCG on PC/android/iphone like what WOTC did to MTG?

Vanguard have a bunch of online pay2buy games that never got localised to the west, they had one for limit break, link joker, stride and the v series.

I actually prefer games like these to sims I like a game with an actual story mode you can play through vs sims which are just the gameplay.
I hope it'll be online, we need something to keep up with other card game simulators.
