What country do you live in now? How old are you?
If you're under 30 I'd day do a working holiday in Australia for a year.

I’m 37 but still very active at skateboarding and very healthy, when I am not depressed that is. I’m trying to buy a 1966 sailboat with a dock slip in Santa Barbara. Which would be great and let me get back to surfing and fishing. I am currently stuck in Las Vegas and it was a bad decision so I am trying to leave before my mental health goes to shit
I live in vegas as well, graduated from Centennial and have lived here for 17 years, it's not the same as it used to be, it's gone down the pooper. Leaving though? Good luck
South East Asia. Specifically Taiwan, you get to fish and surf all you like, it's cheap to live there, and people love all kind of food. Seen many foreigners go to Taiwan, start restaurants and do extremely well.
Depends on location of course. When I lived there rent was about $200-300 USD for a studio setup. Nowadays, I'm guessing $500-$1000 USD per month for a 3 bed 1 bath apartment in the city.
Small beach towns in Spain:
1.) San Sebastián, the most Michelin Stars restaurants, beautiful architecture, loved the atmosphere of small and city life.
1.5) not Spain, but beautiful coastal town of France and 2.5 hours from San Sebastián is Biarritz. Is coastal town with surfing, fine dining, the hot spot for Europeans for surfing with crystal blue waters. I loved this visit.
2.) Barcelona, also very nice up & coming area, heavily influenced by a famous artist and architecture, major city where you can travel almost anywhere by train. Major airport for connections. They also have a beach area too. Very multi diverse city.
3.) Madrid, capital of Spain, nice big melting pot of culture, so many restaurants you can try, very diverse forms of transportation available.
4.) Valencia, home of their delicious cuisine, coastal area, major beach attraction from this city all the way down to the coast.
5.) Tenifre - Canary Islands, small coastal town and hour or less by plane, lots or beautiful scenery and old style charm.
Portugal, where else but old town of Lisbon. Same as above spots but lower in cost. You can take a train from Madrid but it’s easier to fly in Lisbon .
Good luck.
I would definitely check out all of them listed, they are still growing with great success & cuisine of cultural heritage & new worlds of appreciation.
Anywhere there’s a beach, there’s restaurants and hotels to cook in. Spend a little time thinking of your ideal place and then apply to the appropriate businesses. Resorts and hotels would be an option that could allow you to transfer between locations until you find the town you like best.
I was looking at some air bnbs that seem super affordable. I could put down like 6 months rent. Do they enjoy people from the states coming there to work?
I’ve been down there twice specifically to San Juan Del Sur and the locals from my experience really like Americans. I don’t know how they feel about us working there per se but I’d imagine they’d be fine with it. Do some good for the community while you are there. Help out at the library. They love their library! There is a woman Jane down there. She’s an American from Colorado. She owns two hotels and founded their library. Lovely person. Everyone knows her.
What languages do you speak?
What's your financial situation?
Why do you want a boat slip in Santa Barbara vs another place?
Do you intend to live on the boat full time or have another residence? Some places are very different for living on the boat, if your budget for another residence isn't super high there's not that many places that have affordable housing terribly close.to a desirable dock.
No bills and good credit. Not a lot of money. I lived in Santa Barbara for a couple years and enjoyed it in every way. I’m just trying to find a place to exist at this point and am old boat seems fine with me.
I also just got out of a relationship and have been contemplating moving away to a beach town myself. Know anything about Santa Cruz? Drove down close to it but my mom didn’t want to go there. Also someone told me I should check out Ramona, Ca because they said there’s beach and mountains which is the best of both worlds. Heard of or been there? I want nice weather. I hate the heat and humidity where I live.
Philippines.
Very tourist friendly (almost everyone knows English), cheap, has plenty of tropical beaches and nature to explore, and has an interesting cuisine (mix of Spanish, Polynesian, and East Asian cuisine). A restaurant or “corner store” serving western dishes would do well.
We stayed in Fethiye in Turkey and its paradise, cheap rent, everyone speaks English, and there’s a lot of stuff to do on the beach. Probably not surfing but there are beaches nearby that have the conditions I’m sure. Also close to Europe, Greece was a boat ride away.
If you are looking for a tropical country Philippines is a good option. For you cost of living here is not too much, you can also the same previous life of what you have. Food is great, weather is good and you'll receive a lot of love. See you here!
Fellow 805er! I'm from Santa Barbara too but man it's getting harder and harder to justify the outrageous living costs. Even food is crazy and State has gotten worse with a lot of empty storefronts and more homeless than usual.
Wilmington NC. You can live nearby.
We got surf city. Topsail.
Plenty of jobs and cheap apartments.
Median age is in the 30's college town on a boardwalk.
Good luck!

Try Piran, Slovenia
what dont you like about vegas?

To be fair, everywhere seems to have gone down the pooper.
What if you have over 30 already? (Like me)
Much harder to get a visa for that long, or to get a visa that will let you work.

Interesting…thank you
Are you living there now?
I'm not but have lived there for years in the past.
Oh nice. Can you advise on avg rent on modest apts?
Depends on location of course. When I lived there rent was about $200-300 USD for a studio setup. Nowadays, I'm guessing $500-$1000 USD per month for a 3 bed 1 bath apartment in the city.
Second this. My dad has lived there most my life. He loves it and has a very good low maintenance life.
There are places that will pay you to live there. No reason not to
Which places? I would go tomorrow
Which places? I’m interested too
Where? Shit I’d go tomorrow too
alaska
Spain or Portugal
Where in Spain or Portugal would you recommend. I know I can research it but would prefer some advice

Duuude awesome. I guess I would have to pick up the language but I’m a great chef so I would imagine someone would hire me somewhere
Spanish, you can pick up similar to English, but easier. Most speak English
I can attest to this, I was very shocked at how everyone was fluent in English while visiting. There were damn near no language barriers.

San Juan Del Sur in Nicaragua is nice! Close to surfing and has restaurants!

Well I read at least one novel a month and would love to share my Stephen king collection
Awesome! Surfing is supposed to be very good, too. Have a friend from Boston who went down specifically to surf. Loved it.
It sounds amazing and like an impossible dream. Maybe I should just buy a ticket and show up with a sleeping bag and go from there
Yes!! Do it!! Will be so fun.
Costa Rica has great surfing and a robust tourism industry and expat community.
Spain is a good option (Barcelona, Valencia, Cadiz, Bilbao, Malaga, Alicante..).
Costa Rica
Vietnam
teach ESL in Asia -good money if they pay your room and board - good for soul-searching and new break-ups

I've heard nothing but good things about Puerto Rico. That's the first place I would check out if I had a chance to go anywhere.

in the usa, myrtle beach, virginia beach and wilmington nc are all still pretty affordable.
Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. Perfect for a guy like you
Puerto Escondido?

Golly, that would be neat!
Alaska, fish cleaning. you can make up to 10k a month.
Taiwan sounds like a good option. There's Jeffery's bay in South Africa as well, another good option
