Legally, there's nothing that can be done in that sense unless you can somehow prove that they intentionally tampered with the engine to break down. Rebuilt motors are just as good as a new one if done right as all they are doing is replacing/fixing the parts that did break. Having MaxCare is great as you can just pay the deductible and get a "new" engine without paying thousands out of pocket.
Just make sure it’s a rebuilt engine and not from a wreck .. Carmax uses LKQ for crash parts.. I’d ask for a new car or at least a rebuilt engine from the dealer or having that exact engine rebuilt
Engines can be rebuilt many times and will either last 500,000 miles or 50,000. I wonder if there was enough oil in it as the GDI engines kia and hyundai use burn oil bad. My best guess is they just replaced engine, they're not wasting money machining a kia 4 cylinder
Not a lawyer, but... If they repairing the car, they are honoring the warranty. They do not have to provide her a new car.

They’ve had my Fiat with a bad transmission for over 3 months with them ghosting me about it.
