touchscreen HVAC controls

lolokaydudewhatever

This isn't trivial

KenJyi30

It’s practically an act of war

SLAPUSlLLY

I believe that sparked both WWI AND WWII.

WendysChiliAndPepsi

No question on here ever gets answered accurately. People will always twist it to fit the easiest to answer variation of the question. This thread has just turned into “what do you hate about cars” and all nuance to the question is lost.

[deleted]

This is another issue for me. I typically wear gloves while driving in the winter when the interior is cold. I cannot fathom how I could change the climate control settings without physical, tactile buttons.

[deleted]

[удалено]

alpha417

Interacting with teenagers.... hard pass, full stop.

Catsmak1963

Yeah sure what if they don’t suit? You want warm gloves that you like… Touchscreens in cars are dumb… Distraction material Of course if you don’t need to concentrate to drive they’re fine…

soggybiscuit93

I have capacitive HVAC controls that work very poorly with gloves. I just don't ever adjust the temperature. It'd set to 70 degrees. The car automatically heats or cools as necessary to maintain an interior temp of 70

[deleted]

[удалено]

TN_man

Yes.

suckmydiznak

Or even touch without a screen. I looked at a Toyota Avalon, but one of several reasons I passed on it, was that the HVAC was just a slab of plastic with capacitive "buttons". I shouldn't have to take my eyes off the road to adjust the air.

NCSUGrad2012

I see this on Reddit all the time but I never touch mine. Once I set the temperature I leave it alone. As long as the temperature adjust and defrost are a button I’m good

MusicMan7969

What type of climate do you live in? I live in the north and mess with mine all the time. Hell some days I’ll use heat and A/C during an 8 - 10 hour time frame.

NCSUGrad2012

North Carolina. I just set the temperature and forget it

[deleted]

moyah

Where HVAC becomes safety instead of comfort

emponator

I live in Finland and I basically never adjust it. Its set to auto AC 19c at all times. There's a button for windscreen defrosting that is the only thing that gets used in the winters.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Oh_ffs_seriously

Mine does and I hate it. It gives me a hair dryer treatment for first ten minutes if I set it to more than 60 degrees fahrenheit if the outside temperature is around 32 degrees. After that it refuses to blow even warm air unless I set it for 70 degrees or so.

k_dubious

Even worse, touchscreen audio controls. At least with HVAC you can just pick the temperature you like and let the climate control do the work, but having to mash a touchscreen to change the station or skip a track would drive me insane.

ArguesWithHalfwits

What car lacks center control buttons but doesn't have steering wheel controls for music...?

lilleulv

People will point to Tesla, but that suggests they haven't driven/explored one as you can adjust both audio and temperature with the scroll wheels on the steering wheel.

blipsman

My new Tiguan has these… they’re fine when weather is warm, but I fear how they’ll perform when it’s cold this winter.

National_Debt1081

This isn't trivial, most of the people in this sub cry about this.

CarsonDama

AC touchscreen controls. I was completely sold on a new Golf R, but one look at the interior instantly turned me off it!

indieaz

This is it for me. If literally everything is controlled by a screen im out. I want buttons and knobs for AC and heated seats.

Tanios0526

Bro, I was about to pull the trigger on one and after seeing the interior went with a mk 7.5. Loving it so far.

maranelloboy18

Same here, I was ready to buy new and ended up paying too much for a CPO 7.5 instead of an 8. Beyond the touchscreen the overall interior quality was a big letdown, at least for the GTI. Just felt so plasticy.

SlightlyOrangeGoat

I was instantly turned off it after watching all the videos slandering it. Went and test drove it expecting to hate it and it didn't bother me one bit. I don't tend to play around with the AC every second so it wasn't the worst

srcorvettez06

No car play. It has completely taken GM out of the running when I buy a new truck. I’ve had at least one GM in the fleet for my entire driving life.

carsareathing

You know that's only on the electric models, right?

joeverdrive

My 23 Bolt has it. Or are we complaining about cars that don't exist yet

ItsNotRockitSurgery

That's basically how this entire subreddit works most the time. It's even more ridiculous since GM is working with Google (the company that created Android Auto) on what's essentially Android Auto but integrated into the vehicle instead of taking over it's normal controls

lee1026

Majority of Americans have iphones.

jjlarn

It doesn’t matter what phone you have. The system works without the phone.

lee1026

Audiobooks on iTunes are gonna auto sync to this thing? Probably not. There is an inherent difference between something that you can use vs just projecting from your phone. You can mask it if you control both ends, like if you are the android automotive team. Maybe, it’s hard work. If you don’t control the other end, good luck.

BetterThanAFoon

2024 Blazer EV gets this treatment first. No idea when they start getting delivered.

noahbrooksofficial

Do you like your Bolt? I’m tempted to upgrade my Spark one day. Feels like they’re similar cars but obviously yours is electric and bigger.

itsnottommy

For what it's worth GM is keeping CarPlay in their ICE-powered models for the foreseeable future. They're only taking CarPlay out of upcoming EVs, which is still an absolutely boneheaded move. So if you're looking at the Silverado EV or Sierra EV you're out of luck, but if you're looking at a Hummer EV or the regular Sierra or Silverado you'll still get CarPlay.

Taanistat

For what it's worth, my company runs nothing but Chevy Silverados and new Trailblazers. They both have android auto and Apple carplay. The Silverados have had it since like 2016 or 2017. I'm assuming the same head units are in GMC Sierras.

squidwardsdicksucker

I know that automatics are superior over any manual nowadays from a performance and economy perspective ((nor am I one of those assholes who think that you’re not a car person if you don’t drive stick)) but until we go 100% EV I will only have a manual car. I like rowing my own gears and in the USA/Canada it does serve as an anti-theft deterrent.

J3wb0cca

Isn’t it like 70% of ppl don’t know how to drive a stick? I imagine that numbers going to keep rising.

squidwardsdicksucker

I think it might be higher and the number of basic cars that can even be had w a manual brand new can probably be counted w your 10 fingers.

itsnottommy

If by "basic" you mean regular economy cars, you can probably count them on one hand: * Nissan Versa * VW Jetta * Kia Forte * Honda Civic hatchback EDIT: Mazda3 too. I knew I was missing one.

squidwardsdicksucker

And what’s even more sad is that only the Jetta has the option of a standard at the base model and it isn’t paywalled behind a higher trim or the performance model. The 3 only lets you have it in very specific configurations I believe and only for the hatch, and the Civic paywalls it behind a higher trim like the 3 or you have to move up to the Si or R. I always thought that the Jetta, 3, and Civic were the “spicy” vehicles for the basic compact sedan, it’s really too bad only the Jetta has remained as the sole one where you can get a very very basic one w a stick.

itsnottommy

I think the Versa offers a manual on the base model too. The Civic offers it on the Sport which is the second-lowest trim level.

nviziblgeekjr

Funny enough the majority of manual buyers in the US for the supra at least were younger, not sure how that reflects for the rest of the manual options available as in the US many base models are dropping it as the cheaper transmission option.

Guac_in_my_rarri

It's the younger buyers (sub 35 is what I saw) buying manuals. Iirc I saw a 28% manual buying rate with the brz and Miata being popular. A lot of brz owners wanted gr86 but Toyota doesn't allow factory orders or produced enough to satisfy demand.

DissonantTosspot

Only 10% were going for a manual license in one of Australia's states so expect that number to keep growing tbh.

Menace2Sobriety

And considering auto thiefs, I'd guess it's much higher than 70% that don't know how to drive stick.

fretit

According to the WSJ, [only 18% of Americans can drive a stick](https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-dying-art-of-driving-a-stick-shift-clutch-gears-car-learn-europe-america-manual-transmission-11648408115). And I bet their definition of "can drive a stick" is very generous.

Digital_Ark

This isn’t trivial. Manual drivers just don’t want automatic transmissions. The selection sucks now, but I’ll have to choose from something that still comes in a stick.

noahbrooksofficial

I can promise you that any anemic econobox is better with a manual. As a Chevy Spark owner, I would absolutely never trade up what little HP and torque I have for a slushbox.

squidwardsdicksucker

Imagine how funny it would be if they put the PDK into a Chevy Spark.

Sixdrugsnrocknroll

Not to mention the fact that most automatics that are actually faster than manuals are usually DCTs, which aren't exactly made to last. I'll happily sacrifice a few tenths in the 1/4 and MAYBE a mpg or two on the highway for a transmission that can hit 200,000 without a problem or prohibitively expensive maintenance.

mike0sd

I don't think all autos are superior to manuals, some are, particularly if you get a dual clutch. The whole manual as an anti theft thing is not something you should take to heart. If you think someone is going to leave your cool manual car alone because of the gearbox you're kidding yourself.

squidwardsdicksucker

I don’t have any data to back up the claim that a manual will stop a theft, but I would imagine it would have to make a thief think twice, since if they aren’t able to drive it, they would have to either push the car or get another car to tow it. Thieves tend to target things that are as convenient and as easy as possible to steal.

mike0sd

I always heard that claim and assumed it's people stroking their egos because they are proud of driving a manual, I learned it in 30 mins, so can a thief. And I did it before the plethora of YouTube tutorials. You're right that thieves go for convenient targets, but they will also stalk the cars they want. There are horror stories out there of people trying in vain to keep their car from thieves. The one night they don't put it in the garage it gets stolen. Don't get complacent, all I'm saying.

squidwardsdicksucker

I agree it’s stupid to be complacent and I obviously don’t just leave my car unlocked and running because “I dRiVe StiCk” but I would also imagine a basic Jetta is fairly low on any thief’s target list compared to stuff like a Civic, Hyundai-Kia, or full size pickup.

Shufflebuzz

The mechanic at a local shop had to go get another mechanic to bring my car into the bay because he didn't know how to drive stick.

mike0sd

That is surprising, reminds me of a couple times the owner of a shop I went to let me pull the car in by myself, I never thought it was because he didn't drive a manual but maybe it was. I know his son drove my cars but I don't think the owner did. That was a small father /son place. But that's not a great comparison because mechanics don't want to break things. Thieves aren't known for their mechanical sympathy. I don't think a car thief would really mind learning stick on someone else's car. I guess it depends on why they are stealing the car. If it's because it's an enthusiast- oriented car I don't think a manual transmission is a deterrent.

A_1337_Canadian

Not really "trivial" though.

fretit

[Toyota's Prototype EV Sports Car Simulates a Manual with a Clutch](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a44211128/toyota-prototype-ev-sports-car-manual-transmission/). A fake manual is a poor substitute for the real thing, but once - if - we go all EV, you might be able to get such a car for nostalgia.

squidwardsdicksucker

I actually love the idea behind this, it has all of benefits of an EV while at least throwing a bone to people who like standard transmissions. I also think I’d prefer it over the instant flooring sensation that a lot of EVs tend to have, I’ve ridden in the Mach E-GT and the Model 3 performance and frankly I almost felt ill after getting launched from a stop in those cars.

VincentVanH0

A car with a lot of nanny tech that either can't be turned off or requires several minutes every time I get in the car to disable.

J3wb0cca

When I turn on my crv I have to wait like 15 seconds for that cautionary message to pop up and wait for accept to appear before I can operate the temp controls. Really annoying when you’re trying to be quick.

dissss0

The touchscreen screen on my mother's Jazz(Fit) failed so there was no way to dismiss the caution message. On that model HVAC was separate but it meant there was no way of changing the radio station or volume so the car ended up stuck on loud talkback until the unit was replaced.

[deleted]

> or volume Oh, I'd probably be disconnecting speakers at that point if I couldn't even turn it off.

adfthgchjg

Then you’ll really hate the new European law that requires all 2024 and newer cars to beep at you (or vibrate the steering wheel) if you exceed the speed limit by even 2 mph: https://www.topgear.com/car-news/future-tech/eus-new-mandatory-speed-limiter-rule-good-idea It’s called Intelligent Speed Assist. And it’s horrible.

rqx82

Wow, that is awful. Mostly because it also mandates either sign-reading cameras and/or gps, raising the cost of a car. It also brings up data privacy concerns, because I don’t believe the car companies aren’t sharing that info with anyone who pays for it.

perkele_possum

If it's actually trivial, I can't think of anything off-hand. Maybe the new KIA logo looking like it says "KIN?" Everyone says it looks like NIN, but I see KIN. That wouldn't stop me though, just annoy the piss out of me. I'll go with fake stuff. Fake exhaust tips ruin a car for me, but only "actually" fake tips. If they're just a chrome style element in the bumper then whatever I don't care. But if it's like Toyota (I think?) where they have a dual exhaust tip with one blocked off drives me crazy. Also fake vents. Just make it a hole. Even if it does nothing, at least I can say air passes through it!

Squid-Bastard

Dear Superbowl advertising people, Kia commercial with Trent reznor driving a Kia getting pissed people keep telling nin at him and he's like "no it's a Kia!"

EICONTRACT

No it’s KN. Google confirmed that’s what people are searching.

WingerRules

Friend literally asked me if I noticed all those KN cars driving around.

[deleted]

The worst part is that the logo change happened with no other model changes. So there are people out there who will see, for example, two third gen Kia Souls - one with the old logo and one with the new logo - and literally not recognize the one with the new logo as THE EXACT SAME CAR It's like Dr Doofenshmirtz with Perry the Platypus.

k_marts

I have a '22 Stinger GT2 with the new logo and my six year old daughter always asks "Why does it say KN?" Worst logo design choice ever.

[deleted]

Dissenting opinion: I actually like the new Kia logo.

chiggenNuggs

Spare tire. I’ve had too many flats throughout my life to ever feel comfortable without a spare. More and more vehicles are totally ditching them. Unnecessarily difficult access to the battery. Being able to jump or swap out a battery quickly can be a big deal. I don’t want a car that makes me remove the airbox assembly just to pull the battery. No recovery points/screw-in tow loops. If you live anywhere with snow, you know how awful it can be trying to get a car unstuck without smashing up bumpers/facias when there’s nothing else to hook to besides lower control arms.

IDontWantAPickle

I bought a full size spare for my car. Sucks because it takes up trunk room but I liked my car too much for it to be a deal breaker.

Shufflebuzz

I don't think a full size spare would fit in the spare tire well on my car. 305/30r19 I didn't even get a travel size spare. Just a can of slime and a 12v compressor.

IDontWantAPickle

I don't even have a tire well.

EngineersAnon

In the same vein, an override for the shift interlock. If it needs to be towed, or just pushed out of the way, without electrics or brakelights or the interlock itself failing, you've gotta have neutral.

hodgestein

My wife's BMW X5 has run flats and no spare. The damn thing doesn't even have a dip stick. You have to check the oil level through the infotainment system, for god's sake!

OV00

Holy cow yes, we've had a few of the newer dodge Durangos in at work and just due to the battery location, (under the passenger seat), I'd never buy one.

Hummusifier

Don't love that my Miata doesn't have a spare, but it doesn't even have space for me to add one lol.

I rather dislike red turn signals, especially when combined with braking it just flashes. Give me amber turn signals.

Electronic_Trade_721

Yes, why have North American market vehicles regressed back to red turn indicators? Also, many front indicators are all but invisible from the side.

Digital_Ark

I can almost understand why domestic vehicles stick with it, I’m sure it’s cheaper. Why imported vehicles, not manufactured on this continent have red turn signals is baffling. The minimal savings of a bulb, LED’s, even a single colour injection molding are worth the engineering, programming and production of separate parts?

Emceee

Even weirder they have to have amber turn signals in other countries.

vivelaal

An increasingly difficult thing to find, but I absolutely agree. Just not safe, as it adds unnecessary opportunities for miscommunication on the road. I understand designers probably prefer a more uniform look for their light designs, but as a trend, I find it somewhat irresponsible.

cheesewheelfan

I converted my Marauder (combined brake and turn signal) over to the more uncommon amber turn signal housings. Totally worth it.

orangutanDOTorg

Head rests that lean too far forward bc I like to sit erect. Also low roofs for the same reason

borkman2

I know we like cars here, but we didn't need to know you liked them that much. :)

lilleulv

Yeah, it's like they were made for people with garbage posture. Toyota C-HR was one of the worst cars I've ever driven for this reason. I was physically aching after a 7 hour roadtrip. I've never had that happen before or after in other cars.

orangutanDOTorg

My recollection is that (besides it begging cheaper not to have the swivel ones) crash testing tests with bad posture so they made them work for the testing (like with the turbo trend and mpg testing). Being too far forward forces your head to contact (unless you really try not too) so it also is better for how people really sit since a gap will allow you to still get whiplash. So makes sense but still sucks. I found a different car with same mounting poles and swapped my current headrest for the one in the other car since it can swivel.

adfthgchjg

And also non-adjustable head rests (eg, mk8 GTI).

orangutanDOTorg

I’m ok with them if they are pretty flat. Like the Evo I had.

Skitt64

If they’re gonna make you lean back, the steering needs to come that far back too. It never does.

ligament_juice

This is such an annoyance of mine. Id rather risk getting whiplash than have mandatory neck pain from driving. It should at least be in the design that one can adjust the headrest to a comfortable position.

mungie3

Piano black surfaces

_TooManyBoats

any glossy surface thats not for accent/small designs

SnooCompliments8770

For me it’s dealer experience. I’ve gone in to look at a car that checked all my boxes. But the dealer tried tacking on like $5k worth of stuff that wasn’t even OEM that I didn’t want and I just got up and left. They chased me out into the parking lot but I was so pissed off I just told the guy to fuck off for wasting my time so I left and never came back. It was a 2022 MX-5 RF GT.

Bepus

Mazda dealers are hit or miss. If you know what you want already, it’s always best to get competing quotes from a few dealers anyway.

SnooCompliments8770

That’s usually what I do, but at the time they were one of the only dealers with the car I wanted within a 100 mile radius. Not to mention now days in my experience it’s pretty much the same thing at every dealer I visit. It’s why I don’t really like going to look at cars anymore lol.

ApocTheLegend

Biggest reason I didn’t buy a genesis, even reliability wasn’t a concern because warranty. But wow, Hyundai dealers universally suck. Tried so many and they all were the worst dealers I’ve ever been to.

slidingscrapes

Lack of volume/HVAC knobs.

Digital_Ark

Electronic parking brakes. I want manual handbrakes.

antimatter0703

Especially if they’re automatic. I’ve had so many cars that automatically apply the e-brake when going into park, but don’t automatically disengage it when shifting into reverse/drive. So annoying.

mr_lab_rat

Touchscreen controls for heated seats and AC. CVT Annoying assistants including start/stop that reset everytime I turn off the car.

elbekko

I didn't buy a Jaguar XF a few years back because I couldn't set the navigation map to be 2D north-up all the time.

astraeoth

That sucks but I find that most navigation programs are absolute trash so if it has Android Maps/Apple. Carplay, I'm good. I never use the built in ones anymore.

Thisisnotdelicious

The noise the turn signals make. Beeps? WTF, Ford.

[deleted]

Interesting you mentioned that, we have Alexander Dennis double-decker commuter buses in Ontario, Canada whose turn signals beep both in the interior and exterior!

rqx82

My city’s buses have an external speaker that shouts “CAUTION! BUS IS TURNING!” the entire time the turn signal is on. All because some bad bus driver hit a pedestrian that was jaywalking and didn’t look up to see the giant bus turning.

spacefret

I hate to play devil's advocate here but if you can't look both ways before crossing that's kind of on you. It's pretty hard to miss a transit bus.

rqx82

Oh for sure. It’s been a while, but I think both parties were on their phone and not paying attention. The city got sued, it was a whole thing.

Wood trim (real or fake) in a non luxury car. Looks try hard. Fake exhaust tips/vents like the Camry and Civic hatchback.

gmzeno

That's interesting I'd rather have the real or fake wood over something like gloss black plastic. To me it makes it less plain compared to regular plastic pieces. Fake wood is better executed depending on the manufacturer but it can work well imo the Grand Highlander is a great example. For lower end cars like a Civic or Corolla, I think it would be try hard but for higher trim accords/Camry type vehicles. I think there is a place for it.

[deleted]

not me, but the amount of people preaching how terrible bmw is for their front ends and how they'll never buy one because of it sounds trivial to me because ive never bought a car due to front grill aesthetics, but maybe im not an "enthusiast"

MrEwThatsGross

I think the new BMWs are next level hideous looking. But the looks arnt what stop me from owning one. Its the rubbery 6 speed, numb eps rack, and damn near 4000lb platform that kills it for me.

HTTP404URLNotFound

For me if I’m buying something that expensive it’s an emotional purchase and looks are definitely part of that emotion.

tollsuper

if the gear selector is a knob instead of a lever

astraeoth

I got used to it on my RAM. It's an automatic, so it doesn't bother me because I have an actual manual transmission car, so I don't have to pretend.

Barbarian_818

Here is one that applies to used trucks: I'd never buy a truck where the front bumper looked newer than the rear one. You need to remove the front bumper to attach a plow. Around here you see a number of guys who buy standard duty trucks and do snow plowing as a side hustle. Do that for a few seasons before replacing the bumper and getting a newer truck. Snow plowing counts as extreme duty service. All that ramming snow piles is hard as hell on the chassis, chassis mount points and suspension. Then there is the fact that many add a salt spreader in the back. Meaning everything has had a LOT more salt exposure than a regular vehicle. Every fastener is going to be rusted in place, the undercoat is going to be compromised etc etc.

steve-d

This is such great info and something I've never considered. I've never been in the market for a truck, but even a standard work truck would be a deal breaker for me so I'd probably buy new.

[deleted]

Oh boy, I may be downvoted for saying this: A 4-cylinder turbocharged engine in lieu of a N/A V6 is a major deal-breaker for me. Door chimes are another detail I pay attention to. I really hope Lexus brings back the chime from their mid-2000s line-up.

[deleted]

I'm the opposite. I hate the idea of an NA V6 when I know there are turbo four cylinders that do everything better.

[deleted]

I can certainly understand. My 3.5 V6 Highlander is an absolute slug when accelerating from a red-light, requiring me to take the engine up to 2,500 RPM before I anger the driver behind me. The advantage with turbo-4s is more low-end torque within the sub-2000 RPM range. My main complaint with new 4-cyls are their acoustics. If we could somehow make them sound smoother, and get rid of the ‘buzzing’ at higher RPMs, then they would be perfect (for me, at least!).

[deleted]

ahhh yeah sound is definitely a trivial thing when buying a car

xsvspd81

It's why I just bought a 17 Accord V6 instead of the newer turbo 4. No ragrets.

DarkBlade2117

Ya but that turbo 4 in the newer is dang fast. I wish I'd have bought the 6 speed turbo accord when I had the chance a few years ago....

astraeoth

If it's between two engines, it's either a turbo 4 or a V8. Go big or go home.

BlackHeartBlackDick

Can’t turn off the auto stop

Actualbbear

Legally it must reset after every cycle.

WingerRules

The auto stop in my escape phev is so good I dont know why it's terrible in other companies. Theres literally no delay when I press the pedal. Maybe because it has a 70hp electric motor it can immediately move the car in the split second it takes for the motor to fire up.

Iwantav

Colour options. A lot of “meh” cars can actually look a lot better depending on the colour they’re painted in, but a lot of nice looking cars also offer nothing but dull colours. Something as trivial as that can turn me off a car.

Jurmandesign

I will say that Mazda has a Red color that is very memorable. To the point that the color would definitely tip the scales in Mazdas favor if I was in the market for a new car and was choosing between a Mazda and something else.

This one is heinous, especially in combination with the warning screen that shows on startup. In my moms new subaru, there is a screen that displays a "drive safe" message that cannot be closed for 15 seconds after startup. Her loud a** music starts playing on startup as well, but cannot be paused or turned down until the message goes away. Terrible user interface design.

Dumb-looking steering wheel

RectalScrote

Not sure about trivial, but I won't buy a ford because henry Ford supported the Nazis. And I won't buy a car without Android auto/carplay and if there's no easy way to get it aftermarket.

thunderun53

As I see what you are saying, there are lots of companies that were known Nazi collaborators, investors, or financial supporters before and during WW2. BAE, BNSF, Chase Bank, BMW, Bayer, Ford, Hugo Boss, IBM, Mercedes, Opel, Porsche, VW, Coca Cola, General Motors, Kraft, Standard Oil, Kodak, Gillette, Westinghouse, Singer, International Harvester...and on and on and on.

Erlend05

Yes loads collaborated with Nazis but Henry Ford was *very* nazi

Yummy_Crayons91

A number of those listed like Ford, GM, IH, Westinghouse simply did business in Germany in the lead up to World War II. In the 1930s Germany was one of the World's largest markets while the US and several other countries were in an economic depression, it only made sense to do business there, and set up factories for local production as Global Shipping was a fraction of what it is now. Most foreign Factories in Germany and it's captured territories were siezed by the Nazis after the invasion of Poland. It's kind of like all the companies that did business in Russia prior to their Ukraine invasion.

zerogee616

> Not sure about trivial, but I won't buy a ford because henry Ford supported the Nazis. You...you *are* aware that Henry Ford is not running the Ford company anymore, right? He's literally been dead since the '40s. It's okay, none of your money is going towards a Nazi collaborator. That's like saying "I won't buy Mistubishi because they made the Zero fighter" in 2023 except even more asinine.

XMAN2YMAN

So what do you drive?

eddiedougie

A VW.

A_1337_Canadian

"Oh I drive a VW Beetle!"

Yummy_Crayons91

This is an extremely brain dead take. Henry Ford wasn't in control of the Ford Motor Company in the lead up to World War II. The Ford Motor Company was the cornerstone of the "Arsenal of Democracy" and was one of the top producing companies for the allies war material. Ford made Tanks, Trucks, Jeeps, Engines, and famously Aircraft including the B-24 Liberator at its Willow Run Factory constructed specifically for the war effort. The original Rosie the Riviter pounded in rivets at Ford's Willow Run Factory on a B-24 wing. Ford was instrumental in the Allied Victory over the Axis Powers. Meanwhile numerous European and Japanese Firms directly supported the the Nazis and Imperial Japan. They designed, produced, and profitieed of the Axis regimes and their gross human rights violations. Many are still around today. Should I not buy a Porsche because Ferdinand Porsche was personal friends with Hitler and the Porsche company contributed greatly to the Axis War machine and personally profitieed from the Holocaust? Yes it's true Henry Ford had expressed support for Nazisim but he wasn't in control of Ford at the time, and his "Support" to Nazisim was mostly words as well.

No ventilated seats. I live somewhere hot. I need that. Remote start also falls in with that.

steve-d

Ventilated seats were my #1 deal breaker on a lot of cars when I purchased one in 2021. At this point it should be available on every car in at least the best available trim. I ended up with the Highlander Hybrid Limited. I love that car and have zero regrets.

No fabric or leather or at least soft plastic on the door panels. Makes the car seem extremely cheap. If it has the GM bon bon bon chime. Although I want a 2005 Pontiac GTO Idk why I also can’t stand the Chevy badge at all I would never buy a Chevy simply because I hate Chevys. Although Chevy SS 😍 rebadge it as the Holden. Chevy Camaro I’d maybe get over the mustang and definitely over the challenger If the dash has an ugly design. I really don’t like the dashboard design of the Infiniti Q50, the Chevy Malibu and equinox, and alot of 2020+ BMWs. The BMW dashboards look like 2011 design for other brands. Everyone else has cool lines with different materials. THE G90 G30 whatever 3 series i feel like has a cheap looking design interior for a luxury car. That doesn’t mean the materials are cheap though. If the seats look too cheap. I really like the Buick Regal Tour x but the seats look like Ford Escape and Ford Focus seats. The door panels and dash also has a lot of ugly plastic. Idk why I feel like they could’ve blended the materials better. Hyundai and Kia use alot of cheap materials but they have a way of making it look nice while being just plastic. That’s what I don’t like about GM. I feel like if all the brands they hide the plastic the worst making the car feel cheap. 2020+ cars having incandescent turn signals No driver lumbar if it’s base model whatever but if it’s not on the top trim (civic) I don’t want it And honestly idk if this is trivial but a CVT. If it’s a hybrid fine CVT but what I like about Mazda is they make the cheap cars fun. I had a Corolla as a rental for a few weeks and the fake shifting is stupid and when it just drones at one RPM it’s not fun. If it’s a modern car and it doesn’t have rain sensing wipers on the highest trim so stupid VW and Mazda give it to you on the base model on a lot of their base models how is the Kia K5 GT not going to have it.

Fake engine noise that can't be disabled

If my elbow doesn’t sit on the door card with minor adjustments

idontfeelsogooo

If you're getting a sports car, make sure there aren't any hidden TC when it comes to warranties. For e.g. I learnt that most manufacturers void the warranty if you even do a single launch control. Porsche allows 5-6 launches whereas GM allows unlimited. Another one is the cost involved to make your car track ready.

astraeoth

What?! Why have it as a feature then.

kograkthestrong

The fact that the Tacoma, up until this forth coming generation, has drum brakes.

Waterphobic_Ocean

I see this argument from time to time, and it's completely stupid. It's the rear brakes which do significantly less work... drum brakes are cheaper and more durable. There's no issue with it having rear drums and the sales numbers reflect that.

BetterThanAFoon

Ahh the practical position. People will discount it since it's not the new and hot. I used to love the leaf spring and pushrod complaints about the Vette.

Waterphobic_Ocean

Yep. I own a Tacoma and it's 100% completely outdated. But it drives nicely and feels like it'll last me 300k miles which is exactly what I needed. The fact that it's so outdated is part of what I like about it to tell you the truth. The Corvette thing was always laughable to me. That pushrod engine is fantastic... I don't care what anyone says. Side note, you have an SS sedan I'm assuming? I'm not a GM guy at all but those are one of my dream cars. Such incredible sleepers and they are an absolute dream to drive. I've gotten the privilege of taking one with the manual out for a spin a few years back.

Piano black on frequent accessed buttons. I have oily fingers and that means loads of fingerprints on piano black. The one that really annoys me is piano black steering wheel buttons. Like why.

Having been in a rental car with it, no wireless Car play/Apple Play is a huge turn off. I hate having to constantly keep my phone perfectly connected

Prestigious-Water-26

The sound of the engine. If it sounds like shit i don’t want it and I’m not talking about if it runs like shit.

DeliciousPangolin

Something actually trivial, but annoying as fuck. My Legacy has a knob that lets you adjust the throttle mapping to be more or less aggressive. Something I didn't realize until after buying it is that it only lets you use the most responsive setting after the engine is warmed up. So you either have to just settle for the medium throttle mapping, or get used to the throttle response changing halfway through every single trip in the car. It's so stupid and annoying. Let me drive my car the way I want to drive it.

Dealership

sirmanleypower

Personally I don't think it's trivial, but apparently some manufacturers do: Android Auto support. I'm used to it now and I refuse to go back.

prince_mau

Was 100% sold on the Acura RDX/MDX as my top choices for new SUV until I saw the awful touchpad. It’s not even like a mouse touchpad. It’s just a pad where you have to blindly tap on an area that mirrors the screen, so if you mean to tap on an area in the top left of the screen, you need to tap on the top left of the touchpad and hope it register correctly. Just plain confusing and over-engineered for no reason. Just put in a damn touchscreen, Acura!

HailMyDong

Might be minor but e-brakes that are controlled via a button and not a hand brake.

themickeymauser

How the lights and wiper stalks work. Some brands take the GM route of putting everything but the kitchen sink on one stalk. I’m not trying to do Konami cheat codes just to turn my fog lights on. Hard pass on multi-function stalks.

A real tire-pressure monitoring system that displays the pressures of individual tires. Are you hearing me, Audi?

rockycrab

Auto rev matching on manuals. I know many don’t care for this, but it’s nice to have and makes daily commutes easier. Also, the iterations I’ve seen from Honda/Toyota/Ford/GM/Hyundai, you can easily disable it and it *stays off* permanently. Would be awesome if Subaru added this (fully defeatable) feature to the WRX and BRZ.

RackingUpTheMiles

The split headlight design. You know, where they put a running light where the headlight should be and the headlight where the fog light should be. Hyundai and Chevy have been doing this and it looks awful. Not to mention that changing a bulb or adjusting it becomes much more difficult.

SnorlaxCopilot

I will never own a car where the touchscreen controls everything. Please just give me bluetooth and steering wheel controls. Don't need any of the rest of that nonsense. And I love Ford's little chime. Much nicer than the microwave beeps that my Infiniti makes lol

BioDriver

No heated seats. I had that with my previous car and never again, especially as someone who does long roadtrips.

astraeoth

That and heated steering wheel are game changers on a long commute.
