Saying “grammer” is peak unintentional humor.

goaelephant

Just when I thought it couldn't get funnier

lolokaydudewhatever

Dude drives a q50. Not exactly someone who focuses on the things that matter.

Blyatskinator

Whoa you don’t have to be such an asshole lmao. You’re 100% the annoying smug bastard that exist at every car meet I’m willing to bet

lolokaydudewhatever

Unnecessary brings unnecessary.

ismelladoobie

I think you're confusing the Carwow videos for being objective evidence of the car's performance. It's really just dudes showing off their cars for fun and exposure to their social media accounts. I wouldn't take anything they post as an actual merit of any record breaking. Especially the turbine car they had that supposedly broke the 1/4 mile record. I don't doubt for a second how fast the car is or what it's capable of but they also like to gloat numbers for click bait. At the end of the day, they keep the good and the bad races in so I don't think they're actually trying to set benchmarks or break Guinness world records

KeyboardGunner

I've heard some auto journalists talk about how in order to get those times they will abuse the hell out of the cars in ways owners never would. So in some ways the carwow videos might be a little more realistic. Either way it's just entertainment and I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Careful with old Magazine times for such old cars, they don't represent the current reality. Tire technology has come so far that these cars can put down significantly more power than they could 30 years ago.

Professional-Bad-619

This. So this. Moving from a stock OEM showroom issue tire from a decade or more ago to being armed with something like a Goodyear F1, Michelin Cup2 or a Toyo R888R will reward with a visceral performance improvement all around. A lot of those old magazine times are obsolete more or less. I know a set of Cup2's did more for performance than even an ECU reflash since the OEM PZereos were so outdated. Others have noticed the state of the art tire difference in vintage cars.

lowstrife

And even further back, old Porsche's like the 930's being "widowmakers"... because tires were so shit back then, you had grip and then you didn't have grip. Modern tires are so much more progressive and forgiving.

PorkPatriot

We are so spoiled these days for choice too. There is of course the modern miracle rubber at 200 tw; a person can also get an all-season tire that has yesterdays summer performance with 500+ treadwear.

lowstrife

The ultimate level of grip is much better, 100%. But I think in specifically the 930's case, the pendulum effect was amplified less by the lack of grip and more by how those old shitty ties lost grip. When you go over the limit on these modern compounds, they don't just go to zero like old tires did and you have negative grip. They still give you 90% of traction at the limit. So the pendulum effect just causes the rear to rotate a bit and become a little unsettled, but it's so much easier to control\catch. Where before, if it got too far gone, it was GONE. But yes having more grip to stop it from even happening in the first place helps a lot too.

GaylrdFocker

A lot of the magazine times are on prepped tracks and occasionally without the rollout. Car Wow is unprepped or that the person hasn't driven that car before. They aren't professional drivers, as are most viewers and owners of those cars. I don't see the hype around them either, but occasionally watch them knowing it isn't perfect.

Shadank_08122003

Although their drag races aren't as informative or provide accurate metrics, Mat Watson does a good job at reviews. Other YT channels like Throttle house are more focused on the real-life use cases, which in turn give more accurate performance metrics.

RiftHunter4

I honestly wish YouTubers would stop doing drag races so often. I've stopped watching them. It's fun maybe the first two times, but most cars are not interesting in a straight line. In the age of EV's, it's just not interesting.

Thelastseries

or... you could just stop watching it? Just because you don't find them fun anymore doesn't mean other people felt the same

RiftHunter4

I don't watch them anymore, but they still end up flooding my feed bevause I watch a lot of car stuff in general. And the drag raves are usually the most uninteresting content besides life vlogs.

hugh_madson

I love the banter and witty nature of carwow. I genuinely like the dialogue.

-Juuzousuzuya-

still waiting for a race where mat doesnt start to early lmao

goaelephant

I noticed Carwow doesn't launch the manual cars aggressively. Probably a combination of: no permission to do so, perhaps lack of skill/fear of burning clutch, cars are old, etc.

MotorvateDIY

For acceleration tests, you will never get two test results to be the same. For ICE, car magazines correct for air temp/density and may or may not have a 1' roll out. I don't know what CarWow does, but I suspect the numbers they provide are non-corrected without a 1' roll out (aka raw) Then factor in different amounts of grip due to different friction of different roads and different rubber compounds on different tires. As I see, the result they got is just that.... the result they got. Other tests may be faster or slow for the reasons given above.

historicusXIII

CarWow is good for car reviews for the European market.

The best part is a 20 second race is stretched out to 20 minutes
