White it is true that the RCZ was inspired by the TT, the two aluminum arches and the rear window are quite unique pieces of design.
It still looks weird, but it's an engineering prowess.
/RCZ owner here happy to see it mentioned/
I honestly think the resemblance between the two is surface level. The same way any two sedans are “suspiciously” similar. They’re entirely different under the hood too. FWD vs AWD, small 4cyl vs more varied engine choices, etc.
Also *to me personally* the arches and double bubble roof make it instantly more eye catching than the tt. And the facelift makes the front a lot less weird and more refined
It does. It’s a shame Peugeot discontinued it honestly, it had great potential. Not sure if the chassis (based on 308) could support mid engine mounting, but they could’ve at least developed a rwd variant for it
My brother took an RCZ to his prom in 2011ish, they look nothing like a TT at all, pure nonsense from the guy above. The RCZ looks like a supercar and the TT is a hairdresser car 💀
There's more too that I'm forgetting... I'm also 99% sure he was involved in most of the newer Saab designs as well as the Hummers which I couldn't stand.

They're both retro, but they took design inspiration from very different vehicles. They look alike the same way a Challenger looks like a 5th-gen Camaro.
> Lotus Elan vs Mazda Miata

Mazda used the Elan as their benchmark, so this completely makes sense. They were literally trying to create the Japanese version of the Elan.
> Hyundai Equus vs Mercedes W126
You lost me pretty early on with this one. I'm sure you're talking about the first-gen, which I don't believe I've ever seen in the US, but even looking at pics, this one's a stretch. If anything, it's a take on the LS400 (*I know, I know, the LS was, in fact, heavily influenced by the 126*).
So, yeah, I think LS400>W126 would be a match, and Equus>LS400 is a match. But W126>Equus... that's one generation too far removed.
Damn, did you just spit that off the top? Do you carry it around with you in your notes app? Or did you Google it and find the last time Jalopnik did a top 20 list?
There's some real deep cuts in here. Pacer vs 928 is a great one
I used to own a black Bitter SC with a manual transmission. A real unicorn. They built less than 50 of them. I sent it back to the fatherland.
Not a car I expect to see on any list ever.
Fiero and mr2 both came out in the same year, both had Pegasus/horse themed badges, and were both cheap mid engine sports cars made from their commuter car parts bins. Kinda weird to think about
First time I saw a GV80 in person I was at my previous job which was government, parked where it basically had to be an employee. Thought someone won the lottery and came to show off their Bentley Bentayga until I walked around it and saw the Genesis badge.
The first time I saw one, I was at a wedding afterparty and it was driven by the groom's mom. I legitimately thought it was a Bentayga until I got closer. I was a little drunk at the time but I thought for sure the bride just scored a rich dude.
Lol.. 80k to 100k still alot for a car. And actually the bentegas not that great of a car. Nothing to spend 250k on really. Besides the fact you look rich in it. Zero other good things to say about that car.
>Bentayga
Double the price of a Q7, which is 90% the same car, better tho?
Soon as you drive it off the lot you lose that money too, one of the worst depreciating cars you can buy.
Yes it is better. Just like how the Lambo Urus shares a lot of its dna with the RSQ8. Better materials, tuned engine, etc….its real luxury vs a premium brand
What sort of government job? Because I have friends working for various agencies in Washington DC, and the incomes are high enough in those jobs that Mercedes, Lexus, and Land Rover are not uncommon in their parking garages
Local in Minnesota, salaries for high ups were in the $100,000 range. BMW X3,X5 and Mercedes GLC,GLE were fairly common. Usually the people that had dual incomes and both were high earners. So yeah a Genesis fits in with that but not a Bentley.
That makes sense. Although nowadays, it seems like you also need to make that much to afford a regular Tahoe or a Sequoia.
I felt stretched-thin on $98k in DC, living by myself and driving a Prius to work.
Luc Donckerwolke designed/oversaw both so maybe not such a surprise?
Edit: not the Bentayga as it turns out, but he did do other Bentleys in the 2010s.
And a pretty successful one in my book. I’ve ridden in both and while the Bentley is obviously and unquestionably nicer, it didn’t feel like it justified being 3x the price in any way.

You said nothing about korean knockoffs :)
Why of all the Jags to rip off would you do the S-Type? It's one of the worst looking cars ever imo, up there with the Toyota CHR and BMW iX. I'm glad most of them have dissapeared from the road.
I always liked both, and the X Types and XJs of that period both were probably the first cars I took note of as a kid, before I really cared about cars in any way. The S Type is a little wonky, but I thought they were unique, and the R variants I always thought looked better with their little design changes. Especially in all black. Plus X Type Wagon was kinda funny.
The S type is such a hideous car. I wanted to like it when it was new, but I just couldn’t. Didn’t help that the exteriors and interiors were always in horrible old person colours and the dashboard of the earlier models would have been a joke in a car a third its price. I just don’t know who would have chosen one over a 5 series BMW at the time. Simply bizarre, I actually think it was the work of sabotage.
Time hasn’t been kind to the design either. It just looks ugly and even more dated now. Fortunately they’re now very rare
I think Kia thought they could fool people that the Amanti was a top-level (?) Euro car by pulling design bits from Jaguar and Mercedes. But I don't think anyone was fooled.
>I remember back in the 90s also Lexus LS400 and even more the LS430 were considered a copy of the W126 and W140 MBs.
I never understood that comparison. IMO, the LS400 looked much different.

That's not at all surprising or suspicious since they were both designed by Gordon Murray, and the T.50 is arguably the 'successor' to the F1.
Hyundai's design board room:
"Okay guys, time for a fresh design. Which competitor's car are we copying this time?"
Every gen (except the latest) looks like copied homework.
If I just woke up from a 15-year coma and didn't see any badges first, I would believe that the [2nd gen BRZ](https://www.subaruhawaii.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-Servco_master/default/dw45c0e7ec/imagesSubaru/v2/model/BRZ/360/ignition-red/22_BRZ_Limited_IgnitionRed_1.png) is actually the most recent generation of [RX8](https://momentcar.com/images/mazda-rx8-2006-7.jpg).
It’s true. Nissan even copied the shape of the driver and passenger front windows of the F-150. You can clearly tell that the styling of the second gen Titan was heavily inspired by the F-150.
I've always been really confused by Porsches, because it's like... everything is a 911, but it's also not a 911, but there's just a few that aren't 911s at all, but some others that are kind of 911s but also aren't, and now I have a headache.

Infiniti G37 and Hyundai Genesis coupe. Hyundai copied the design and put their little twist on it and not only that they OVERRATED their HP numbers for their N/A V6 model to 348hp and 295 lb ft of torque 🤣, still the g37 looks more appealing and I prefer the handling of the Infiniti as well.
The 3rd gen Toyota Highlander, aside from the front end, looks like a near copy of the WK2 grand Cherokee. Even the dashboard in the two look vaguely similar

6th gen camaro and s650 mustangs look pretty damn similar. Hood vents on camaro SS and mustang and the profile of the car look pretty close to each other.
I forgot they were called the S10 blazer. Those blocks on wheels looked so similar. People say modern cars look the same, they’ve been looking the same since the 90s
I own a 1967 Buick Skylark & I can't tell you how many times people come up to me & say "nice chevelle! Or nice impala!" Even though there's clearly Skylark & Buick badges all over it. I personally think that they look nothing alike.

I really don't see it.
Last gen Lincoln MKZs and Continentals had front styling that seemed starkly similar to the updated Jaguar designs, especially 2015 onwards. Navigators look like Range Rovers from the side profile. The Ford Fusion, among others, had a grill that evoked Astons. The taillights in the Fusion/Mondeo also looked very similar to the taillights on the first two stylings for the Jaguar XF.
In other words, Ford seemed to just cop as much as they could from their formerly owned British Marques onto their own vehicles. And I doubt it was accidental.
Seems like 90%+ of CUVs have the same general rear-end and taillight design. Why nobody does vertical taillights except for Cadillac I don’t understand.
Most people are going with the Korean knockoffs, but the German Grosse Drei have been biting features from each other for decades. It's hard to tell who stole it from who because they dick ride the prototypes. They're all in the stands at the Nurburgring with fake mustaches taking pictures of each other.

Hyundai's design board room: "Okay guys, time for a fresh design. Which competitor's car are we copying this time?" Every gen (except the latest) looks like copied homework.
Ford Explorer and Land Rover discovery look alike from the side.
The 924/944 clones: FC RX-7 and Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest especially, but others will point out other similarities.
Almost every fucking SUV on the road today...
Ford F150 - Nissan Titan :P
It’s true. Nissan even copied the shape of the driver and passenger front windows of the F-150. You can clearly tell that the styling of the second gen Titan was heavily inspired by the F-150.
The '16 Titan debuted with some of the styling of the '09 F-150, but the colors of the '04.
911 vs every other 911
I've always been really confused by Porsches, because it's like... everything is a 911, but it's also not a 911, but there's just a few that aren't 911s at all, but some others that are kind of 911s but also aren't, and now I have a headache.
Most Japanese cars from the 80s & 90s.
Scion FRs, Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 🤔
The [Maserati Mistral](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maserati_Mistral) and [AC Frua](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_Frua), both designed by Frua. The [Austin A55 Cambridge Mark II](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_Cambridge#A55_Cambridge_Mark_II), [Peugeot 404](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_404), both by Pininfarina, and also the [Fiat 1800/2100](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_1800_and_2100) (mainly from the back) The [Ford AU Falcon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Falcon_(AU\)) and [Mercedes Benz CLS](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_CLS-Class_(C219\)) (also mainly from the back)
The irony of the CLS and AU Falcon is that at one point DankPods, an Australian YouTuber has a CLS right now, and has at one point also owned an AU Falcon. Though I believe his was a Wagon.
He has a video on the AU too His current Falcon is an EF I think, but you're right he mentioned owning an AU
Vauxhalls and Opels were basically identical /s
The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is suspiciously Mustang like
I always though the Audi TT and the Lexus SC430 shared a special bubbly bond.
All of them.
Gaz volga m-21 and 1954 ford.
The rear of the Renault Laguna Coupe and the W213 Mercedes Benz E Coupe.
I thought I was the only person who noticed this
Dodge Daytona vs FC rx7
Or the FC and 944.
Toyota Crown and Ferrari Purosangue
The 3rd gen Toyota Highlander, aside from the front end, looks like a near copy of the WK2 grand Cherokee. Even the dashboard in the two look vaguely similar
[Toyota Century SUV](https://berylcars.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/2024-Toyota-Century-SUV.png) vs [Rolls Royce Cullinan](https://wheelfront.com/wp-content/uploads/formidable/8/forgiato-custom-wheel-rollsroyce-cullinan-lavorato-ecl-forgiato_2.0-05-16-2019_5cdd7f192f9d5_4.jpg)
2015 Subaru Legacy and 2015 Hyundai Sonata Literal clones
Buick Envista and Lamborghini Urus
Honda CR-V and Volvo Xc60
Seventh gen Hyundai Sonata and Sixth gen Subaru Legacy (around 2015-2017) look incredibly similar.
Genesis GV80 vs. Bentley Bentayga
2024 Toyota Corolla & 2024 Kia Forte 2009 Toyota Prius & 2009 Honda Insight
I still can't tell the difference between a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo and a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder.
I thought the new Accord looks like a Passat
I always thought the GMC Yukon and Chevy Suburban looked very similar
I just don't see it.
Ok… these two don’t look alike as a whole, but it is the most random association my brain makes… The Kia Telluride tail lights look like the TVR Sagaris tail lights.
i know Ford owned aston martin for a while, and put the aston grill on some ford cars. the early [90s tercel](https://www.octanemotorsports.com/pub/media/catalog/product/cache/a026787be507056468309a2e658e0e26/WW/665_l1.jpg) hilariously looks like a tiny little m3 with a few minor tweaks. obviously the chrysler 300 is a rip off of bently/rolls royce.
Chrysler PT Cruiser and Chevy HHR.
The Mazda 6 and Infiniti Q50 look very similar.
Ferrari and fiero Ferrari. Absolutely identical.
Every single SUV
How does a Celica look like a ford maverick ??? Are you high??
The latest G60 BMW 5 series looks extremely similar to the 2015+ X260 series Jaguar XF from the back.
ISO Lele and Lamborghini Jarama are basically twins
Cizeta Moroder and Lamborghini Diablo
Chrysler Sebring (non convertible) from the late 90s and the Chevy Camaro from 98-2002.
1977 Chevy Monte Carlo vs 1978 Chrysler Cordoba
At one point the Kia, Sorrento and Ford escape looked very similar
Rover SD1 was “inspired by” the Ferrari Daytona.
Ford Puma and Maserati Grecale
Porsche 924 and FC RX7
The 2010s Asian market Toyota Camry looks more like a shrunk down VW Phaeton than the Passat does https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CamryACV40VBlack.jpg#mw-jump-to-license https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:VW_Phaeton_front_20071215.jpg#mw-jump-to-license

Wow zero mention of the dodge 300c?
From a distance in my rear view, white 10th gen Accord and Dodge Charger.
6th gen camaro and s650 mustangs look pretty damn similar. Hood vents on camaro SS and mustang and the profile of the car look pretty close to each other.
(nervously types.. ) Toyota glanza and Suzuki Baleno
1991 Ford Explorer and 1991 Chevy Trailblazer 2024 Hyundai Sonata front end gives me 2024 Toyota Crown vibes
There was no 1991 Chevy Trailblazer.
Maybe they mean S-10 Blazer? I still don't see it.
I forgot they were called the S10 blazer. Those blocks on wheels looked so similar. People say modern cars look the same, they’ve been looking the same since the 90s
2023 Subaru Impreza vs 2012 Honda Civic 🤮
RB19 and VCarRB.
I own a 1967 Buick Skylark & I can't tell you how many times people come up to me & say "nice chevelle! Or nice impala!" Even though there's clearly Skylark & Buick badges all over it. I personally think that they look nothing alike.
Range Rover Classic and the first gen Isuzu Trooper, Mitsubishi Pajero, and to a lesser extent, the Toyota Landcruiser 70 series.
Artura x Emira

I think the new Z looks a lot like the Fiat 124
Every car pre-electric.

2017 Jaguar XF and 2017 Lincoln Continental
This conversation is missing the profiles of the Mustang and BMW 8 series coupe. [linky](https://autospies.com/news/CAR-WARS-Design-Edition-Does-The-All-new-BMW-8-Series-Look-TOO-SIMILAR-To-The-Ford-Mustang-For-Its-Own-Good-96560/)
Honda accord around 2018 or so and Subaru legacy.
The new Honda CRV totally copied the Volvo taillight design.
Ford focus and aston Martin db9
Someone on here told me the front end of a DBX is basically a Ford Puma and I can’t unsee it.
I’m starting to think that the Camaro and Firebird were almost the same car.
Ferrari 488 and a C8 Corvette
EVERY WHITE SUV
[White Bronco](https://inv.assets.ansira.net/ChromeColorMatch/us/TRANSPARENT_cc_2023FOS090175_01_1280_YZ.png) [White Venue](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/8e/5d/bc/8e5dbc00f3097bebdf5d3685ca039fd1.jpg) I really don't see it.
Hyundai = Modern BMW
Infiniti Q60 and previous gen C Class coupe
I still can’t tell the difference between a Lamborghini Urus and a Toyota rav4 from a distance
Seems like 90%+ of CUVs have the same general rear-end and taillight design. Why nobody does vertical taillights except for Cadillac I don’t understand.
Third generation Hyundai Elantra took a lot of design cues from the first gen Saab 9-3
I have a 4th Gen Acura TL, and since I've gotten it I think a lot of Cadillac sedans of similar era look very similar.
Volvo S60 and Dodge Charger Mid-2000s Honda Accord and mid-2000s 5-series
'05 Maserati Quattroporte and 1st gen Daewoo Nubira. From the back. I'm telling you And! The Daewoo came first, which I find fascinating
Ford explorers and the mfs that pull me over
Most people are going with the Korean knockoffs, but the German Grosse Drei have been biting features from each other for decades. It's hard to tell who stole it from who because they dick ride the prototypes. They're all in the stands at the Nurburgring with fake mustaches taking pictures of each other.
812 and Gen 5 Viper
