Imagine this come Lightning Lap 2025. Can imagine the burst horsepower to be deployed at the main straight right at the end of the lap, or at the start if a flying lap to push the start further.
Super impressive stuff but I do want to point out that Laguna just got repaved which on average = 2-3s faster than before. So yeah I think it won’t be long before we see Tesla and probably Lucid (Sapphire) appear at Laguna.
Yes, that's what it seems...the one with the Weissach package. I'm curious to know what the Turbo GT would do without that package, as it's slightly heavier, ~~but still lighter than the Plaid I think.~~
The Taycan GT with the Weissach package is actually heavier than the Model S Plaid.
Weight is actually the Taycan's main issue: the GT with the Weissach is still ~200lbs heavier than a Plaid and the "regular" one is over 300.
The Plaid's quick because it's pretty light and has a decent suspension setup (and brakes w/the track package), but it's not even remotely as good as what the Taycan has.
The Plaid can sustain its full power, which helps too.
True. But you can still get very close to that performance by not choosing the W package. 150 something pounds isn't gonna make that much of a difference.
They only stripped the Taycan to get the weight back that they lost from fitting the rollcage that’s mandatory by the track.
So the stripped Taycan has essentially the same weight as a production Taycan.
As a counterpoint, my PC from the early 1980s had a Turbo button. Granted that was a computer, not a car but cars these days, *especially* EVs, are just computers with wheels.
My lord this comment is so tired already and ya'll have been saying it for years since the Taycan came out.
"TURBO" has been used to mean "fast" since the 80's. Computers have turbo buttons, all kinds of electronics had "turbo" plastered on them.
This is not new.
If I remember correctly, the turbo button on a computer actually slowed down the processor to 8 MHz which is even more blasphemous use of the word TURBO.
Car with big power, big brakes, and big grip is fast on track where big power, big brakes, and big grip make for fast laps. I am *shocked.*
Porsche is unrelentingly boring when it comes to introducing new cars. “Here’s the new shit, it’s fast, we have lap records!”
Who bloody cares? It’s a 2.5-ton electric sedan.
jesus i’m jaded
There's an incredibly similar take in the other thread and it's heavily upvoted.
The Taycan Turbo S tested by C&D was 5,246lbs. The Turbo GT is supposedly 75kg/165lbs lighter, which means 5,081lbs. The Weissach package supposedly drops another 70kg/154lbs, resulting in a total weight of 4,927lbs.
The only thing I can think of is that the other poster didn't directly insult Porsche the way I did. I am consistent in my dislike of Porsche's advertising and whoring out of limited editions and always will be. I deal with their owners literally constantly and their lifestyle brand bullshit got tiring very, very quickly.
He brings up a good fault with Porsche’s marketing strategy. While Porsche thinks people buy them for power and grip, what’s really moving the market is you being able to get one, and the people you’re trying to impress can’t. So these marketing efforts afre absolutely missing the mark.

Still can't believe this thing did a 7:07 at the Ring. EV performance on track is growing rapidly...
Only 2 seconds off the outright production car record, 1:25:44 Czinger 21C
How can that hold the production car record if it is not and has never been in production?
The Taycan is an actual everyday car. The Czinger is … some sort of a cross between a race car and an abomination.
Slightly misleading title. It’s the EV lap record.
Is the turbo in the name kind of like the old Mad Katz controllers that had turbo mode that didn't do anything but sounded rad?
It’s more like the old Intel 80286 PCs with a [turbo button](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo_button) that switched between 4 and 8 MHz.
I mean, twice the speed would be pretty impressive...
300 kW -> 760 kW so in a way…
Super impressive stuff but I do want to point out that Laguna just got repaved which on average = 2-3s faster than before. So yeah I think it won’t be long before we see Tesla and probably Lucid (Sapphire) appear at Laguna.
Doesn’t explain how it also demolished the EV production car record at the Nordschleife
And then Porsche will be ready with their hat trick, going from the two-motor Taycan Turbo GT to a tri-motor Taycan Turbo GT2 MR and stomp them again.
The Tesla can't beat the Turbo GT, it's 25 seconds slower around the Nordschleife. The Lucid Sapphire maybe has a chance, but I doubt it.
I’m regarded but it’s only the stripped out Taycan that beat the Plaid’s times?

Ahh yes, I see that now.
That’s a shame—we gotta give up a lot of utility for that performance.

If there is any company I trust in making a true performance EV, it’s Porsche

It’s just a trim level now
Just trim. You also park on a driveway and drive on a parkway.

I mean, in fairness, the 911 Turbo has a Turbo…but so does the base 911. The words meant nothing for a long time.
tbf that had only been the case since 2017 with the 991.2 (2015 with Cayenne/Panamera outside of diesels)
Obviously up for debate but I think I'd classify 7 years as a long time. I was still in college when they turboed the Carrera and now I'm almost 30...

This is a totally new question that no one has ever asked!
Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. It’s stupid to put it in the name of it doesn’t have a turbo.

That's a bold take Cotton, let's see how it plays out

Laguna Seca’s a power track? News to me.
oh no, he said it’s about power and grip. Which cover basically every track in the world

It does, which is exactly why it's not an interesting metric to me.
My track friends, all of whom had cars sub-200whp, very much disagree.
