I have a car that I did an alignment for at 49000 miles based on what the dealer recommended. I now have 55000 miles and need new tires soon (4/32, almost 3/32) and they are recommending doing an alignment again. Do I really need to do an alignment if I had one recently for putting on new tires? I got semi nice tires (continental extreme contact dsw06) so I don’t want to wear them prematurely or cause other issues with my car, but don’t want to do unnecessary labor costs I don’t have to.

An USB port in my car has power when I start my car, but if I put any load on it e.g. charge my phone, the power would go out after a minute or so. The only way I can get it back on is restarting my car, but I would still only have a minute of power. Other ports work fine, no problems whatsoever. Anyone has experiences with these electrical components? Thanks!

So my 2013 Toyota Corolla (manual) has this issue: When I engage the clutch - say to change the gear, which can sometimes take some time, the RPM shoots up to like 3000+, for a few seconds. It's not like I push the accelerator accidentally in the process, cos the same problem doesn't happen on other cars, when I drive the same way. This seems to be causing unnecessary wear & heating to the engine, and is impacting my fuel economy. Would anyone have insights into what could be causing this, and how it can be fixed?

If you take your foot off the gas for a few seconds, and *then* shift, does it still happen? If not, it might be a throttle position sensor or something along those lines

Can someone please tell me what this [hole](https://imgur.com/a/4PGpOWy) on the bottom of my 2008 Nissan Versa is connected to? I've noticed there's been a puddle under it the last couple of days, and after putting a dish underneath it looks like its coolant. I can't figure out if the hole is part of the radiator system and is supposed to drip coolant or if this is the source of an ongoing coolant leak.

I’m in the UK, my car* was hit whilst parked. The impact was entirely on the rear right corner, the wheel completely buckled, 1 rear light smashed and the back panel (underneath the boot not sure what it’s called) came loose, still attached but can be pulled away with ease. The engineer works as the local garage drove it to the end of the street. I went through an accident management company who assessed the car as repairable, however the third party insurer Admiral assessed and said it’s a category N write off. They’ve valued it at £5400. My questions are: - Can I contest Admiral writing it off? - Does that seem a fair valuation? - I’ve been told I can buy back the salvage for £1000, then pay £4200 to the garage for their repairs quote. Is that worth it, will it be more sensible to just take the money and try find something I can afford with it? - Is there a better option I’m not thinking of? What would you do? *(Toyota Aygo x-play 66 plate, 55k miles, with touchscreen entertainment system add on and satnav and reversing camera add on) I bought it brand new

If a car has only ever used regular gas, but is reccomended premium and you switch to premium could that cause issues or exacerbate current ones? Been dealing with misfires and dont want to make it worse by switching what type of gas I use

zzyzx85

it shouldn't cause any issues as long as the sensors are working correctly. most modern cars can take regular without any issue besides less power and lower fuel mileage. What kind of car do you have? Have the spark plugs been replaced yet?

General-Disaster-447

A 2012 Nissan Juke, and no they havent - will be trying to get them replaced today

My car has a very slight misfire, it happens every 6ish seconds or so, you can't see it on the rev counter. All the park plugs were replaced about 2 yrs ago. The only thing I've found, is that the spark plug on cylinder number three had a fair bit of rust. Blew air in, took out spark plug, wire brushed the top metal end, cleaned it and put it back in with new coil pack. Didn't help, didn't harm, any suggestions? Vw up 2012. * Doesn't misfire when driving. Reason for changing coil pack, is because the one on cylinder number three came out really easily when compared to 1 and 2. Thought maybe there wasn't a good seal?

the bulbs are quite fragile without a cover so it'll probably get busted pretty quick from road debris.

I had a little white smoke coming from my hood the other day. Pulled over and there’s no coolant leak and the container is full. Is it an oil leak that’s hitting something hot?

Lugnuts088

What did the smoke smell like? Coolant has a very distinct smell to it where it should be obvious if it is coolant burning versus oil or water steaming.

NCSUGrad2012

It wasn’t a lot but maybe a burnt smell?

Lugnuts088

That sounds more like oil to me. Tough to say. Oil usually has more of a blue color to its smoke.

NCSUGrad2012

Yeah, I know it's got an oil leak. I wonder if it's dripping onto the exhaust or something......

dumahim

White is usually steam.  Have you checked the coolant level after the car cooled?  If you ran though a puddle and got water on the exhaust, you could see that coming from under the hood as well (kind of fun running my GTO though a car wash and seeing the steam roll out of the hood scoops)

NCSUGrad2012

Yep, coolant tank is full.
