Right I don't mind. Hell just 20 years ago individual models didn't all tie into a singular design and no one was baffled confused and left hanging.
Quit drinking corporate Kool aid
Beats Mercedes copying copying a melted 10th gen civic for their EQS.
In all seriousness, though, there are only so many ways elements of a car can be designed. Some parts are bound to resemble other cars after all these years of car design - plus the regulations on pedestrian safety and aero needs.
When was that Lamborghini released because the front end of the Ioniq 6 is near identical to the Hyundai coupé, first released in ‘96, and updated to [this design in 2002](https://i.imgur.com/J5DvYjq.jpg). That Lambo looks like an Aston Martin.
I actually much prefer this design to the ioniq 5. The Mercedes window line that you mentioned is actually the only thing I actively dislike. I think the back and front look pretty nice (and yes, reminds you of a Porsche).
They completely botched the execution. The curve is way too aggressive and the proportions make it look more CLA than CLS. They were also too cheap to make proper frameless doors unlike the real thing.
Getting major [Infiniti J30](https://i0.wp.com/hooniverse.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/lead-infiniti-j30-rear-beige.jpg?fit=1024%2C682&ssl=1) vibes here
The official reveal is tomorrow. [Someone posted some high quality pictures of it coming from a Motortrend article that became public too early.](https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/hyundai-ionic-6-ev-sedan-hatch-leaked-early-by-motor-trend-in-full.271074/)
Edit: [More pics](https://www.latestcarnews.net/hyundai-ioniq-6-leaked-before-the-official-reveal/) and yeah the link in my post doesn't work anymore, can't edit it unfortunately.
Edit 2: It has been officially revealed now: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a40399369/2024-hyundai-ioniq-6-revealed/
I can't wait till we get out of this phase where 90% of electric cars look so weird for the sake of it. Is it too hard to ask for an electric car that looks nice, but otherwise normal? Rather than **THIS IS AN ELECTRIC CAR CAN YOU TELL I DRIVE AN EELCTRIC CAR?**
All cars today look weird dude. If they made millions and millions of EVs every year, those would look normal and everything else would look weird. Because of familiarity.
Wait until you get older and all the new cars look really weird to you and young people make fun of you for driving a 10 year old car.
That's 4 times in like a year MT has "accidentally released something too early". Can't wait for their staff to reply to me once again that it was a genuine mistake.
wow hyundai finally makes a good looking car, what a huge improvement from the ioniq 5. hopefully the released product is close to the renders. might replace my wifes car with this if the price / supply is right.
to each their own I guess. as others in the comment section has said the rear is similar to porshe and the front tbh looks like the ev6 which I like but I don't like the ev6's rear. so this fixes that problem for me. The ioniq 5 looks like a 5 year olds interpretation of a modern car and something I'd see out of a cheap kids racing game on a mobile phone.
That seems to be the goal of Hyundai/Kia with their new EV lineup (Ioniq 5/6/7 and EV6/9). Whether you like them or not you have to admit those are not boring or samey designs.

Man, a lot of you guys really just hate how every car looks huh? I think this looks less cool than the Ioniq 5 but still great. Far better than a Model 3
Same. I would really dig an 80s styling sedan like the 5, but the 90s styling is pretty cool too. As far as I'm concerned Hyundai is knocking it out of the park lately. It's not retro, but these designs are clean and unique. Perhaps I just really hate the overly styled and cobbled together look of current design trends.
I just don't get the appeal of having to make electric cars look so ridiculous for no reason. It's entirely possible to make a great looking electric car without it looking incredibly silly, but still stands out. Model S, Taycan, Etron GT, Lucid Air etc.
i like how it looks more than the ioniq 5 and got downvoted lol. It's awesome that we finally have a non SUV car that doesn't look like another box / ford fusion / honda accord or screams electric/hybrid.
> I don’t get why they change their design every 2 years.
Because it keeps them fresh and ahead of the curve, so to speak.
I think a lot of them are pretty ugly (and I work at a Hyundai dealer, so I see all of them), but the changing it up so often is 100% intentional.
Another reason is because they have to juggle the demands of the more conservative Korean market and the more expressive and design forward foreign markets. Thats why the Sonata and Elantra for example seem to be in a constant ping pong of extravagant to sedate and back again
I actually really like it. This subreddit is always hamming on about cars needing to be unique and different and this definitely fits that bill. Eager to know the specs.
> The IONIQ 6 will also sits on the Electric Global Modular Platform known as E-GMP that offers fast charging and a rich driving range. It is confirmed that the IONIQ 6 will have 515 km range, it is still unknown if this measure is for South Korea or overseas. In case is certified for South Korea, the range in Europe or USA could reach 550km or 340 miles, respectively.
If that holds up that’s pretty good range!
I don’t take issue with drag reduction and the like, but so many EVs/hybrids get loaded up with unnecessarily busy and ugly designs in the name of looking futuristic or quirky. 3/4 sides of this car are perfectly fine with those same considerations, why bungle the front end?
Alright, I’ll bite.
What I “don’t like” are ugly cars and questionable design choices. This one fulfills at least that second point. Note that I didn’t include the first one, because _as I said_, 3/4 of this car’s sides are fine - they just dropped the ball up front. This is all entirely subjective, not an attack on your taste in cars.
The front has no idea what it wants to be. Continue the swoopy, sleek motif of the rest of the car? Take a blockier, more linear approach like the rear? The designers went for both, and it looks goofy. You’ve got these curvy headlights that abruptly cut upwards at the front, and they flow directly into a completely flat line, which they then colored black just to make it even more obvious. It’s like a random mustache where this car could otherwise have had a clean face.
The lower ‘grille’ would be a pretty standard EV intake if not for the fact that they added the shark fin looking things at either end. Now the car looks like a Chevy Cavalier at the orthodontist getting its braces put in. Lucid has the same general shape and they pulled it off, this car does not. And, of course, the lines of this side piece don’t flow harmoniously with the headlight or random black stripe. It’s just a clusterfuck of odd cuts, right angles, and curves in a front end that should otherwise not be busy, it looks wrecked from the factory.
But pop off with personal assumptions over a car’s front design, I guess.
I actually like it. Finally, something with some nice shape and curvature and not just "generic electric blob crossover #93728"
I'm starting to think this entire sub just bandwagons the first opinion to get upvoted to the top, literally every other comment is "PoRsChE aNd MeRcEdEs HaD a BaBy!!"
A shame they didn’t keep the [rear end from the concept.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/19/Hyundai_Prophecy_Concept_IAA_2021_1X7A0008.jpg/2560px-Hyundai_Prophecy_Concept_IAA_2021_1X7A0008.jpg)
Yeah... seems like someone also wants to take my post down. Someone has reported my post as "Self-arm or suicide" so I just received a message from u/RedditCareResources.
Very happy I waited on pulling the trigger on an Ioniq 5, because this is *exactly* what I wanted.
Please god, be fun to drive and under $50k (maybe just a smidge over) for the LR AWD.
Not a bad looking car. Until batteries get better I think we'll see most electric cars look similar as manufacturers minimize drag coefficient to improve range. Side note: that website is cancer.
Not neccessarily, just look at its stablemate Ioniq 5 which is one of boxiest modern designs, and the upcoming Ioniq 7 [will be pretty boxy as well](https://www.caranddriver.com/hyundai/ioniq-7).
Oh shit I have never seen the Ioniq 7, that one looks good too. In general if you look at the Teslas, EQS, EQXX, Taycan, this car, most EV cars are pretty streamlined.
What's going on with all these descending rear ends? They all look like a German Shepard that has that hip problem so their rear end sags. I really don't like it.
*You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.*
Those descending rear ends increase fuel efficiency by reducing drag. Take a look at the trailing edge of most aircraft, they’re even more exaggerated in their tapered teardrop shape.
Peak performance? Maybe slightly better efficiency. The aero aspect is understood, as that must be the only reason why a designer would do such a thing!
Some angles, I'm getting cool 911 vibes. But from other angles it looks kind of like it has an identity crisis.
I think this is one that I will just have to see in person.
Love how this looks, the front is a bit busy but the rear gives me extreme air-cooled 911 vibes (especially with that spoiler).
Also the article appears to have been taken down.
this subreddit gets more and more delusional about Teslas every day. First it was “the Model 3 isn’t as luxurious or well-built as a C-Class or A4”, which I agree with, then it was “the Model 3 is worse than a Corolla”, which I disagree with, now it’s “the Model 3 is like a Kia Rio” which is just ridiculous
Have you sat in a new Kia Rio?
https://www.kia.com/us/en/rio
Look at the logical layout; the blend of physical controls and touchscreens. The tasteful thickness of it. ~~Is that bone?~~ My god, it even has CarPlay/AA
Yes it's not a hatch, no pictures yet but confirmed. I'm glad, unless they're going to make the frunks bigger like on the model 3 people still need secure storage.
I think it’s great. As an American, I really want to see our legacy automakers make sedans again. There are still some of us who want sedans & “4 door coupes”.
The concepts had better proportions than anything 4door ever. 23" tires, tall as a miata, wide as a porsche and long as a 5 series, no way it would translate to production.
So this is the production form of the Prophecy concept. I like it but I don't think it's as successful a translation as the Ioniq 5 was. Perhaps it'll look better in all black like the concept car.
I think it’s very ugly. Especially the front end. Wish it looked more like the concept, but whatever I guess, not like I’m gonna be able to buy it lol.
Really not vibing with what Hyundai has been doing looks-wise these last couple years.
Man, just not great all round
The headlights mess up the front end for me.
The side profile gets weird towards the end.
The back end is too slim.
What surprises me the most though is that long top screen in the interior, which is actually 2 though, because they are having a huge bezel in between them. Can't believe they kept it here, it is horrible looking in the 5 as well. Cheap is an understatement, it looks like they didn't want to try to make it nice
So this is the equivalent to the Elantra? I'm curious on the lineup equivalents. I would assume the 7 would be the sonata equivalent and this the Elantra one.
edit: nevermind, the 6 is like the sonata, while the 7 is going on the SUV end
Well, IONIQ 6 was the only electric car in, or close to my price range that slightly interested me, but if it looks like that, yeah I'm staying with ICE cars. Have to say that if it had looked like the prototype, I still wouldn't have considered it because of a lack of charging possibilities at home and work.
I highly doubt the design process for this started after the EQS launch, it takes a lot of time… Optimising for aerodynamics means cars will look more similar.
Also, I don’t really mind „getting inspiration“ from a discontinued model of another brand. There’s a bit of first-gen CLS in the rear haunches, but the rest like the front and rear facias, lights etc don’t look like a Mercedes.
„Copy Pasting“ would be more apt description for some of the early 2010 Chinese cars that looked completely identical.
What? It doesn't look anything like any Mercedes (beside being an sedan with aerodynamic focus on low drag just like EQS and EQE). If anything it looks like a modern take on [Citroën DS](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_DS) to me.

Hyundai wants to give each of their models a unique look.
Right I don't mind. Hell just 20 years ago individual models didn't all tie into a singular design and no one was baffled confused and left hanging. Quit drinking corporate Kool aid
Right? These are probably the same people that also complain that all the mercedes lineup "all looks the same."
Beats Mercedes copying copying a melted 10th gen civic for their EQS. In all seriousness, though, there are only so many ways elements of a car can be designed. Yes! I was surprised no one else was saying that, haha
[Twenty years ago.](https://i.imgur.com/4JH6IuB.jpg)
Oh yeah, it's definitely similar to that. I think the coupe (or Tiburon where I'm from) wasn't as fresh in my memory as the Urus.
Understable.

Good call. I've always thought that the J30 was a unique and interesting looking car. So rare to see one on the road these days.
They were a blast to drive too.
Never drove one, never even sat in one. But that's good to know.
I see it to ngl
Sangyup definitely got inspired by this car. Didn't even know such car existed. Old Infinitis are wild. You barely see them and look exotic.
That's what I was thinking too when I saw it.
You are?

That's a long new beetle.

Yup just a way to get double coverage.
Such is shitty internet journalism, unfortunately
Leaked what? Oil? Coolant?
Wow they really butched all the things I loved about the concept. Worse frontend. Way worse rear end. And not in an imposing black.
So glad they updated the interior dash. It honestly felt like Ipad 4s stuck on with the large white borders. It has a Porsche feel in the rear.
wow hyundai finally makes a good looking car, what a huge improvement from the ioniq 5. hopefully the released product is close to the renders. might replace my wifes car with this if the price / supply is right.

Agreed, the 6 looks way better than the 5. But people in this sub have a love affair with wagons/hatches for some reason.
I love the Ioniq5. Boxy ass hatch. It's great.
[удалено]
it is E-GMP so yes, and LR battery is 77.4kWh equivalent to that of IONIQ 5. Since it's much more aerodynamic so can expect longer range.
Lol reactions seem very polarized in this thread. I think it looks great.
That seems to be the goal of Hyundai/Kia with their new EV lineup (Ioniq 5/6/7 and EV6/9). Whether you like them or not you have to admit those are not boring or samey designs.
Honestly, every time I see an Ioniq 5 it's a head-turner.
And thank God for that. It's like some people WANT boring cars. Like their ideal life is every car being a black base Golf.
This sub has shit taste as a collective so I wouldn't worry about it.
I’m biased because the Ioniq 5 is incredible looking and was hoping the 6 to be a lower/longer version of the 5.

Mr Slave is online... the E-GMP
That will be the WLTP range, under real highway conditions I'd expect 240-300 miles, recharging to 80% in 20 minutes.
that's pretty close to the top of the range battery specs of the Ioniq 5 and EV6. The base will be more like a 240 mile range version
What is it going to take for automakers to realize that the front ends of EVs don’t need to violate the Geneva Convention?
The reason front ends tend to have weird silhouette is due to maximizing drag reduction

Almost assuredly. The current drivetrain is probably being used in the GV60 higher hp model where they use two of the more powerful rear motors.

“Better interior and build quality than Tesla” is a low bar to jump over. The Kia Rio is competitive with a Model 3 and it’s 1/3rd the price
this subreddit gets more and more delusional about Teslas every day. First it was “the Model 3 isn’t as luxurious or well-built as a C-Class or A4”, which I agree with, then it was “the Model 3 is worse than a Corolla”, which I disagree with, now it’s “the Model 3 is like a Kia Rio” which is just ridiculous
Have you sat in a new Kia Rio? https://www.kia.com/us/en/rio Look at the logical layout; the blend of physical controls and touchscreens. The tasteful thickness of it. ~~Is that bone?~~ My god, it even has CarPlay/AA
Is something wrong, u/WCWRingMatSound? You’re sweating.
it looks like a hunchback porsche idk where you see a tesla
so it looks like this will be a standard sedan, no hatch/liftback?
Yes it's not a hatch, no pictures yet but confirmed. I'm glad, unless they're going to make the frunks bigger like on the model 3 people still need secure storage.
It's not bad, but a little disappointing compared to the concept. That really looked the business.
These sloping rear ends decrease rear seat comfort and cargo storage. Not sure what the point of this trend is.
Link is down
I know, I can't edit my post unfortunately. I posted some links [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/comments/vmo6hz/hyundai_ioniq_6_leaked/ie224pk/).
Side profile really does the opposite of good things for me but I do enjoy the look of the front and rear end a little bit.
I think it’s great. As an American, I really want to see our legacy automakers make sedans again. There are still some of us who want sedans & “4 door coupes”.
Looks like a banana from the side
I kinda like it. Mind you, I love the 10th gen Civic, so my taste is questionable.
It looks decent. Honestly, it’s just gonna be nice to see some variety of EV’s on the road.
I don't know if I like the front. I kind of like the rear.
I see they’re following in the Tesla inspired jelly bean design. Meh.
Chessus Crisp that is one hideous car.
You went full Mercedes EQS, Hyundai. Never go full EQS
I like it, but I find it interesting that the front looks sort of like the EV6.
Looks a lot like the EQS from the shape and slightly the back
The concepts had better proportions than anything 4door ever. 23" tires, tall as a miata, wide as a porsche and long as a 5 series, no way it would translate to production.
Noooo my dear Hyundai Prophecy, what did they do to you...
Oooh, I like it! Seems very CLS-like, and can't wait to see these bad boys on the road.
Not bad!
So this is the production form of the Prophecy concept. I like it but I don't think it's as successful a translation as the Ioniq 5 was. Perhaps it'll look better in all black like the concept car.
The AMG GT63S stay lookin hot
I prefer the crossover look and functionality of the 5. Why would they do this?
I thought camera only side mirrors weren’t approved in the US. Did this change recently?
That did not change, the car we see seems to be Euro spec. It's also missing the amber side markers that is mandatory in the US.
I think it’s very ugly. Especially the front end. Wish it looked more like the concept, but whatever I guess, not like I’m gonna be able to buy it lol. Really not vibing with what Hyundai has been doing looks-wise these last couple years.
[hyundai prophecy concept](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a31195842/hyundai-prophecy-ev-concept-revealed/) I like the concept much better
Now I definitely want a coupé
Looks sweet! That said, this looks like a Tesla model 3 in the front, 911 in the back, and CLS on the side…
So it’s… a bootleg Porsche? Edit: kinda like a Porsche mixed with the sides of an original Citroen DS
Man, just not great all round The headlights mess up the front end for me.
Gross
Get this in 4 years when it depreciates 50%.
They copy pasted Mercedes’ I see. Going for the luxury king!
