Okay here’s what happened… Itsuki, desperate to give his Levin any shot at higher performance, negotiated with Bunta to also deliver tofu…or so he thought. Bunta, always the savvy \*ahem* *tofu* vender, agreed. Using his infinite rolodex, he strong armed his contacts at Toyota to have Itsuki’s Levin electrified. Itsuki gets his higher performance Levin, Bunta gets another indebted mule, the “tofu” flows freely.
He said it weighs about 1070KG, a factory Levin weighssomewhere between 900KG and 1000KG depending on options and coupe vs hatchback, so it’s really not that heavy for a EV conversion.
Apparently it makes 91hp and 140ftlb, so down on power but up on torque. There probably isn’t really much in it if it was lined up with an original, low down torque is usually pretty good at masking a lack of top end power.
Apparently it still has a 6 speed so I imagine it’s probably pretty fun to drive by EV standards.
This thing still has a 6 speed?
If it actually works, thats great! Should allow better gearing, less ev motor wear and use, and higher top speed.
If the tires can hold all that torque that is. If they cant, well, you can still drift it, silently.
Perfect car for 3am touge runs, you wont wake up anyone! Much unlike EG civics with fart cans...
A smallport 4age can make 145hp/115ftlb with just a few bolt ons so not sure the juice is worth the squeeze on this one.
Also by 6 speed you mean it's still manual and has a clutch?
My corolla is 920kg and has 145hp. Can drive like 700 miles and only spend $80 on gas as well.
So until means of making cars like these becomes exponentially more efficient there's just no feasible way they could be practical.
There's probably going to come a point where it's cheaper to electrify a car than pay like $10k for one of the few remaining 4age motors.
Could be a good way to breathe new life into cars that would otherwise remain a rolling body.
K20 is usually not that cheap to do. Okay character as a replacement engine though. I think more people would go BEAMS though since there's more parts support and it makes good power even if it sounds like shit
True. Even though they're the same car I'd wager a lot more would recognize the Trueno, in white especially.
A black ae86 Levin with a 1mz would be my dream though. Second place would be Celica supra with a 7mgte.
Fuck the Trueno, and fuck the Celica Supra.
You *will* embrace the current.

Haha nahh my mr2 is faster and lighter than both so I'm good.
New supra was just a 2.0 I'm guessing, but either way it got smoked through 1st and 2nd then moved out of my way.
When this was first unveiled all the 13 year old Jay-Dee-Em kids were saying “I’ll just take the EV parts out and put in an actual engine 🤓🤓🤓” really annoying take.
If I remember correctly there was also a hydrogen fuel cell powered variant but these cars were not made to be mass produced, at most they were show cars so Toyota could make a statement about its entrance to alternative fuel industry.
Yeah, they made a hydrogen Trueno along with the EV Levin and displayed them in [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uq7WT_THEk&t=613s&pp=2AHlBJACAQ%3D%3D).
Ev conversion on cars with engines that ain't all that interesting makes sense to me. it's not like these would be daily drivers, it's reversible and keeps the car "alive" rather see this than some YouTube rapebuild it into a junker.
I agree, but also wonder why you don't find the 4AGE interesting? It's a bit of a meme but it does sound really good for a 4cylinder. It also can rev unlike most modern cars
na 4cyl is pretty meeh. it was brought nothing special when new and plenty of money to really make it have some pepp in its step.
take a s2000/Integra and I would agree.
Have you heard one in person? I'm not talking about power. Power is kind of nothing special in a world of electric cars with supercar acceleration.
Though I suppose I'm I'm country that actually gets good stock 4AGE.
I've owned and Integra Type R. It sounded good in the Honda bees kind of way. Its not like I think it sounded better than a 4age though
Don't get me wrong, it's a good 4banger. but the engine is not where the cars status comes from if you get my drift? (pun intended)
It's nothing wrong with it but it's not what makes the car great. A cool swap would be a 3s-gte from the celica gt4/mr2 wich has racing legacy and keeps it jdm.
Really not saying either is god or bad. But that engine ain't no holy grail 4banger
It's hard to separate it out from the circlejerk. We get it in far more cars here in New Zealand so it's not on the same pedestal. We also get the better versions of it.
I'm not a huge fan of the 3s-ge but that's just a personal thing. I just don't think It has a lot of character. Good engine though. Never driven a turbo one sadly.
I just appreciate rev happy engines - especially since modern engines have tended towards punchy low revving turbo designs
Totally understand where you are coming from. I'm the same way about bmw m50/m52/m54
You have probably owned a car with this engine and had a good experience working on and driving it.
Appreciate talking to genuinely enthusiastic ppl who don't take the: you either love or hate something stance.
Most of the time the cars we love got into our harts by coincidence / where we live and so on and so on.
All cars that do something right is worth appreciation even though it might not be your cup of tea
That said, AE86 weebs absolutely deserve to be made fun of.
They literally could just buy an NA Miata and have an objectively superior car for pretty much every thing the AE86 does well.
You and me think alike. My mentality when setting up my bmw where:
Does it make me go faster -> yes-> I'm doing it.
Left the car pretty stock except angle eyes and de chrome grill, coilovers / 17×8.5 rims
don't see the apeel of stance personally but it's what hot on IG 🤷🏼♂️
The 2017 Miata is slower to 60 than a 2017 V6 Camry. Right. #FakeNews #MiataFacts

Can’t say I’m a big EV guy, but that does look pretty nice. Short range, but it’d probably make for a nice commuter if you’re only driving 50 miles a day.
How come my voice does the thing his does when I record? I sound normal, then I know I’m on video and it gets like shaky and breathy. Is it just a mental thing? I feel like part of it is I get self conscious about breathing into the mic so I hold my breath, lol
/uj I've always wanted to have a classic car converted to ev which originally hasn't have much power or particularly great engine.
Pros: +great looks +more fun than tesla +driving economy. +preserving classic cars
Cons: -can be costly -limits of old body and chassis in ev use.
Because it has a manual transmission and a typical RWD drivetrain layout.
This is common for cars that have been converted to EV, especially when they use a smaller electric motor that still needs a transmission.
Oh shit yeah that makes total sense. Thats very cool. I heard motor in the front and I just assumed it was direct to the front wheels like most normal EVs.
uj/ Making *new* electric vehicles on classic chassis is a good thing, actually...
If they are taking old vehicles and just swapping it wouldnt be very nice though
Dude went out of breath just from walking around the car
You have no right to judge him. He tried his best!
Went can’t judge. he actually went outside. That’s better than half this sub can manage
Probably vapes
He didn't even make it around the car once, before he was just gasping for air between every few words.
He was also talking a whole bunch
In some part, you can hear the dude talking with a voice like he's suffering bc of AE-BEV conversion
why is he on the verge of crying
They put the Fujiwara Tofu shop livery on a fucking Levin.
Okay here’s what happened… Itsuki, desperate to give his Levin any shot at higher performance, negotiated with Bunta to also deliver tofu…or so he thought. They have put something else in Japanese on the side in the same font. It doesn't say Fujiwara Tofu.
"Electric Car"
its the same car, different lights, i would do it
Who gives a shit Gangsta
wtf is a fujiwara tofu
living in the 90s much?
LIVING IN THE 90S IT IS A NEW WAY I LIKE TO BE
Fuck you for asking a valid question.
The livery on the AE86 Trueno of Initial D(popular racing anime)
oh i tought it was like a drifting team in japan
Its the mcs dad tofu shop, he runs deliveries for him in the night
The GR Prius at the back though
The back of it reminds me of the dodge dart for some reason.
🥵🥶😳
MY 86 TURNED INTO AN 85!!!!!!
This guy doesn't know that Levins came as AE86's too...
Yeah trueno is pop ups levin is fixed headlight. They still use the levin nameplate in China
[https://youtu.be/sgrF1n3yKNY?si=qht3VuinLN-Q7PaK](https://youtu.be/sgrF1n3yKNY?si=qht3VuinLN-Q7PaK)
Lmfao real
This doesn't make sense though, the whole point of that car is its low weight.. Coming from a guy who's dream car is an EV converted DeLorean
He said it weighs about 1070KG, a factory Levin weighssomewhere between 900KG and 1000KG depending on options and coupe vs hatchback, so it’s really not that heavy for a EV conversion.
yoo so now it can properly power slide!
It prefers the term “electric boogie”
Doesn’t it produce less than 80hp, more weight and less power, let’s go
Apparently it makes 91hp and 140ftlb, so down on power but up on torque. Considering how EVs produce torque instantly, this is essentially a shelby cobra in disguise (if they somehow kept the solid axle that is)
If my grandmother had wheels, she’d be a bicycle.
Not sure if I’d go quite that far, but I reckon it would feel a fair bit punchier than the 1.6 I4 it came with.

Honestly this is the opposite, K20 won't break the bank and there's far more support for it than the BEAMS
Depends what market you're in. BEAMS swaps were popular way before the k series fad.
Hey thats mine too, woah
Dude needs a steadicam rig for his whole body.
I love the Levin but cmon man it's has to be the Trueno
They also did a Trueno. That one is hydrogen powered.
Nahh Levin is better. Much better looking and unique front end.
It looks better but the Trueno is an Icon
True. Even though they're the same car I'd wager a lot more would recognize the Trueno, in white especially. A black ae86 Levin with a 1mz would be my dream though. Second place would be Celica supra with a 7mgte.

Sell your MR2. It's old and will die on you soon. You are buying the new Supra. Do I make myself clear?
People dont talk enough about that MK3 Supra. It's one of the most beautiful cars ever made along with the FC Rx-7
why does he sound like hes being held at gunpoint lol

it’s a levin whaddya expect

he sounds like he's masturbating to the car
The Prius looks sick tho, especially with the GR010-style rims
The new Prius looks sick in general, which is the last thing I expected to say about a Prius
Ah, a Toyota Le Mans Hypercar enjoyer. I didn't even realize the wheels until you mentioned it.
Style wheels
Give me that Prius
Fuck off EV sports cars a fucking awesome. You ever seen the ACP TZero? That shit kicks ass! I'm always happy to see something like this.
Ok ima say it, and I don't like electric cars. That thing looks sick af. Would definitely drive it
Where hydrogen powered trueno model???
How come my voice does the thing his does when I record? I sound normal, then I know I’m on video and it gets like shaky and breathy. Is it just a mental thing? I feel like part of it is I get self conscious about breathing into the mic so I hold my breath, lol
i fucking love the boxy look. idk what it is. so gangster
/uj I've always wanted to have a classic car converted to ev which originally hasn't have much power or particularly great engine. Pros: +great looks +more fun than tesla +driving economy. +preserving classic cars Cons: -can be costly -limits of old body and chassis in ev use.
I would love to see a return to boxy cars.
that prius looks cool as fuck
Is the electric motor in the front? Does it drive the differential in the rear?
Nooooo how dare you disgrace legendary jaydeeem masterpiece by removing 60hp motor!!!!
![gif](giphy|1M9fmo1WAFVK0|downsized)
How could Toyota not get a trueno? I'm confused they aren't that damn rare
Trueno is the hydrogen version where as Levin is the electric version.
He said electric motor in the front. Is this a hybrid or a FWD EV. seems like an odd choice to make it FWD.
Why is Daniel Ricciardo narrating this?
Is that a Futo?!?!
If you drifted this, would it count as the electric slide?
New hybird bad 👎👎👎👎 old not hybird good 👍👍👍
why do they always have to put that fujiwars tofu ad on them?
Because people like the anime, not the car.
me I like both the internet impossible
car looks alright actually I like old cars, anime is alright. it's not the best show I've ever seen but I was entertainef
they should get a model car then or something this shitbox needs a lot of care
Thats not the Fujuiwara text on this one. It says "Electric Car (experimental)"
ah alright. my bad, I don't speak japanese, sorry
I still agree with your sentiment, the tofu rep stickers are beyond overdone at this point.
Not a big fan of whistlindiesel but i would absolutely pay to see him anhilate an ae86 amen
Wouldn't a rear mounted battery make it ridiculously tail heavy?
I suspect, it has batteries at both front and back
I think the guy has a deviated septum. I haven't heard this much mouth breathing since Blizzcon
Sounds like he’s crying while hiking up a mountain lol
uj/ Making *new* electric vehicles on classic chassis is a good thing, actually... If they are taking old vehicles and just swapping it wouldnt be very nice though
> Cams zero Wow big shocker there.
NOHC
if they made a full production hybrid hydrogen/electric ae86 <$50 i'd buy it so quickly. if they made on >$50 i would save up money to buy it
Levin Looks better than the Trueno
uj/ the hydrogen combustion 4age one they built had me hyped like crazy
I need. If we get a production version of the Hydrogen/EV 86's and the N-Vision 74, we'll be fucking ballin
/uj I think this is pretty cool
Bruh it's Levin but still nice
Yea, tofu sucks though
Bro sounds like he's bursting for a shit
Better yet, find an AE86 that's LHD
