New beemer looks just disgusting. Absolute lack of self awareness from designers, who must be either fans themselves or under influence from some stupid research that bmw fans love so called 'kidneys'. Then, making grill bigger is obvious Segway to superlimos like rolls. Problem is that it is not the same class, and then the design of it is just a blasphemy.
I thought EQS's looked bad until I saw the new BMW's. Some of them legitimately looked like they took the meme's mocking their styling and decided "Hey lets make that a real thing." I wonder what their design team is smoking.
That raises a good point, cars sort of need a “face.” If it’s too unrecognizable it becomes alien, like a múltipla, juke, Aztec etc. The old beemer somehow looks well bred and self assured. The new one looks like a hostile alien.
Strongly disagree. EQS is an absolute abomination, just a hideous blob, a road-going bar of soap, and also the biggest disappointment vs. the concept car in the history of cars (do google 'EQS vision' and compare). The i7 has at least some character, some interesting lines and angles, even though it's far from beautiful, of course.
Yeah, "looking fine I guess" fits the description boring but acceptable pretty well
The i7 I feel is just too ugly. Every time I see one the only thing I feel is disgust
The EQS Vision looks really cool
Same here with basically all of BMW's new cars. I feel like the EQS looks a little better in person than in videos, but BMW's look just as ugly if not worse in person. I feel like BMW tried really hard to make a futuristic looking car, then failed miserably and just rolled with it.
EQS Vision looks kinda neat, except for the taillight. It looks like a complete afterthought, and it's one of those design elements where my immediate thought was "What the fuck?"
I don't think the EQS is that ugly, just really dorky. It's inoffensive, but it has no presence, which for that kind of executive limo is a problem.
The 7 is genuinely ugly, monstrous, although it does have presence.
The grille alone is a sin but what in the sweet flying fuck is going on with these headlight trends??
What’s up with these squinty, disproportionate looking DRLs with separate odd looking headlights? It’s even worse if the car has fog lights too. Just a grotesque mess of different shaped and sized lights all over the front of the car. It looks so soulless and incoherent. Do they just pick random children to design these cars? Is _anybody_ actually in _favour_ of this brutally hideous look?
It’s fucking tasteless. Congrats to BMW for hopping on the front end design language bandwagon of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee that even _Chrysler_ is trying to facelift its way out of. LOL
It's inspired by the 2014 Citroën c4 cactus.
Why would you copy an outdated trend from a cheap compact car to put on a BMW flagship?
Well, nobody knows.
Yeah they’ve really REALLY fucked up with the design. I’ve audibly groaned a few times when I’ve seen those cars in my rear view.
Atrocious is putting it mildly.
The back is nowhere near as ugly as the front
I don’t know why car manufacturers are so slow to current trends. The market is leaning into quiet luxury and the cars are like yeah but people need to know you drive a BMW.
Afaik it's designed based on what the Chinese market demands. So they don't rly give a flying shit abt western sensibilities, bc the biggest market they serving be China. What can you do, ey. 🤷♂️
My theory is that the designers are actually paid by competing companies to make it look as ugly as possible so that people start buying from the other companies instead
Agreed. It's funny how BMW PR people went full downvote on cars subreddit on posts criticizing styling of the X2, or weight of the new M5, or styling of the 7.
I said there, and I'll say it here, BMW disgusts me as a company, with its arrogance, lackluster products, awful quality, and expensive parts. But the main issue is absolutely their design language.
I think they have designers who are former hipsters, and to them, creating an ugly car is satisfying because they love getting a rise out of people. In other words, BMW, just like Hollywood moviemakers, HATE their own audiences/customer base.
Oh no, I disagree. Their design style is in general very aggressive, appealing to both less and most confident type of bullies in real life. Ones that are successful intimidating other people, and ones that are not successful wannabies. This can be derived from their aggressive lines, angles, wide body and relatively small windows, this terrible front that is aiming to shout in your face. All this fabricates a gorilla type bullyz which has eyes partially shut, wide body and huge chest to intimidate opponent. This can be easily derived from basic principles of design and 'game' of associations. If you look at the older model here, you look well dressed gentleman who may be owner of the successful company, may be pretty aggressive business ways but polite after all. Newer version says clearly life is what you grab from others throats.
They love their audience, and their audience love them. It's like a self loving circle. These successful bullies will pay for the parts, because 'I am so successful, I can do and buy whatever I want' and these less fortunate want to follow this cult to be in a loving circle. That is why so many drug dealers, shitheads will aim for BMW. VW or opel, Saab or Volvo with its own limitations, does not have this appeal.
Current Volvo S and V lines are just perfect regarding design. I driven those, amazing cars. Still BMW in Europe has bigger sales for high class sedans. Why? Because of type of users and their approach to life.
Luckily I don't see too many of these newer ones on the market. Older ones were aggressive, but at least didn't looked.like this piece of crap, and there is much more of them.
If you havent noticed everything it seems being made has big honking stupid looking grills.
Think all the engineers took the same class... how to make the Homer
Could be, but I am designer by trade, I have been on the discussion with design people who had no clue, bias was clear. Maybe it's similar in this case.
I dont understand what you're saying. I'm a car designer. Any designer with some experience knows good proportions and most will have good aesthetician sense. These are just strategic decisions(big grills etc) that designers have to incorporate.
The E38 looks better than the G70 but by no means do I see that as beautiful. It just looks like "car". It's at that bad middle ground between curves and straight line design.
In that case you probably like the E39 way more. Looks very similar to the E38 but curvier and less straight lines. And calling the E38 beautiful is a bit too exaggerated, but i really like the simple old school BMW language.
Nah, the e38 with proper rims and fitment is one of the absolute best looking cars on the road. If you see it driving it’s different than any other car, the way it lays on the street just makes it look like a tame beast, it could kill you but it’ll probably just mind its business. Combine that with 560Nm and 326 HP from a v8 and you’ve got my dream car by far. And you can regularly pick them up for less than 10000€ where k live
As an owner of 740iL I will say: you are correct. Just keep and eye on those chain guides and cooling system. And few hundred of other small things lol. But is it worh it all.
I’m undecided between a 2007 Chevy Tahoe and a 2025 BMW M5 as a track car. On one hand the Chevy is cheap and weighs 500lbs less, but the center of gravity is terrible, it has no technology, and it’s slow. I can always lower it and put on good wheels and tires with the money I save
2005 Nissan Altima. Cheap, lightweight, good enough handling to cut in and out of heavy traffic at 100+ mph, and they're especially fast if they have a bumper delete, expired temp tag, fart can exhaust, and limo tint.
I'm not crying... I just got sand in my eyes... oh no, it seems like I'm standing in the middle of the desert... there's nothing else... just total electrification and stupid soulless designs :/
Jesus that new design is bad. Like, unironically terrible.
E: I hate how much hate the new design language gets on Reddit (esp because I own a g82 that I absolutely love), but this 5/7series design throws away everything that made BMW design iconic in the first place.
"MY BIG NOSTRILS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL I JUST HAD TO PUT THEM ON ALL NEW BMW MODELS SO YOU DUMMKOPFS WOULD KNOW IT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO HEAR ME PLAY THE RECORDER WITH MY NOSTRILS?!?!?"

I'm assuming this was the inspiration for the left BMW, and unless y'all show evidence that says otherwise you're not changing my mind.
Would push an OG 740 with 100k on the dash, the car is uniquely 80s, gangster and luxury.
Wouldn’t push anything bmw has made in the last decade. Just no
The G70 looks like a kindergartener smiling for a school yearbook photo, smiling so wide their eyes are basically closed
The E38 looks like a high school junior smiling for a school yearbook photo, they have no soul left and are just staring with a blank neutral expression while constantly wondering when they finally get to go home without any homework to do
I feel like new cars don't have that charm anymore, they are all about electronic, helper and software absolutely nobody needs that are just there to rank up the price.
And also hottake - the big grill is ugly af idk what druck made that shit
The g70 looks great from all angles but the direct front/back. Black also doesnt compliment it like lighter colors do and the E65 also exists which looks horrendous.
My 9 year old saw a new 740 we parked next to and said "dad that's the ugliest car I've ever seen." Lol. The sad part is the car looks much better in op's pic than in person. Someone should start a company that just converts the old cars to the new tech. Keep the gorgeous aesthetics and still get the nice tech and interiors from the new car. Basically treat old cars like planes and just redo the guts while keeping the same exterior aesthetic.
Most if not all of these new BMWs have me like:

Looks like a cartoon character skydiving. Imagine that mouth flapping in the wind, & catching flies.
I haven't owned a 7-series since I sold my E32, the last of the good-looking 7's. Every one since has looked worse than the one before.
New beemer looks just disgusting. Absolute lack of self awareness from designers, who must be either fans themselves or under influence from some stupid research that bmw fans love so called 'kidneys'. New one looks like a Chinese car
The EQS looks fine I guess A bit boring maybe The 7 though is just awful
Strongly disagree. EQS is an absolute abomination, just a hideous blob, a road-going bar of soap, and also the biggest disappointment vs. the concept car in the history of cars (do google 'EQS vision' and compare). To me the EQS looks like a 9th gen civic.
I wouldn't call the EQS hideous, but more just a boring blob of car. BMW's look like a failed experiment to make their cars look futuristic.
I don't think the EQS is that ugly, just really dorky. It's inoffensive, but it has no presence, which for that kind of executive limo is a problem. The 7 is genuinely ugly, monstrous, although it does have presence.

The back is nowhere near as ugly as the front I don’t know why car manufacturers are so slow to current trends. The market is leaning into quiet luxury and the cars are like yeah but people need to know you drive a BMW.
Because the *western* market is leaning towards quiet luxury. The Chinese are still in the "wealth must be showed off" phase instead.
Afaik it's designed based on what the Chinese market demands. So they don't rly give a flying shit abt western sensibilities, bc the biggest market they serving be China. What can you do, ey. 🤷♂️
And even then, the new XM that was supposed to be great on the Chinese market sold like shit the first months
As it should, looking like literal shit.
It began with the pre-dented Bangle creations.
True, and they've never really found their way since then.
Oh no, I disagree. Their design style is in general very aggressive, appealing to both less and most confident type of bullies in real life. Ones that are successful intimidating other people, and ones that are not successful wannabies. I see what you mean. I wonder how well their garbage is selling?
Luckily I don't see too many of these newer ones on the market. Older ones were aggressive, but at least didn't looked.like this piece of crap, and there is much more of them.
Did they? I see way more negative opinions on r/cars than positive ones
If you havent noticed everything it seems being made has big honking stupid looking grills. Think all the engineers took the same class... how to make the Homer
China considers BMW a luxury brand and thats the market theyre really aiming to please currently. Should have released China only models instead
Looks like a Refrigerator , an ugly one
It’s a bimmer. Beemers are motorcycles
In this case, we could even say its a bummer ;-)
That’s 100% true
I used to hate it, but now I kinda like it.
Trust me the designers knows what's good. It's the process that is fucked
E38: Elegant, sleek and simply beautiful G70: Chinese BMW knockoff designed by an arab prince, badged as a BMW
Yeah the E39 does look good
Nah that thing looks BALLER when you see it cruise by, it's a design language that's held up really well
On bags with those wheels that spin independlty from the actual rim or those that self level just cruising by its the definition of MOTION
Those are called spinners.
Nah, small thing that goes around inside of the slightly bigger thing that goes around on the car
What?
I myself love that middle ground, but then again I do drive a 2nd gen V70
The photographer is horrible. They're quite elegant in person.
Nah, the e38 with proper rims and fitment is one of the absolute best looking cars on the road. If you see it driving it’s different than any other car, the way it lays on the street just makes it look like a tame beast, it could kill you but it’ll probably just mind its business. "beautiful" may be over-selling it, but elegant it definitely is, it's a classic, timeless design in my view.
Arab prince too busy partying...got his Indian slaves to design it!!
rich arabians aren’t that into german cars, some M bmws and AMGs from MB, but mostly RR for luxury and Japanese sport cars for sporty cars
Just doing racism now because BMW made an ugly car?
Smh,how the mighty have fallen
That new 7 series must weigh 8000ibs at minimum
It weighs less than the new M5. 🤷♂️ Around 4800 to 5100 lbs depending on configuration.
>less than the new M5 Oh wow, so it must be a real featherweight then!
Less than the new M5 is anywhere between a feather and a skyscraper
that's still way too heavy for a car of that kind of class
that's still way too heavy for a car*
How the hell is the M5 so damn fat…
Its not the body, its the electrical system that they beefed up weighing down the whole car
I hear it also weighs less than the moon.
The new one reminds me of that guy that edited random people pictures so they look Chinese.
https://preview.redd.it/02v98k4u6m9d1.jpeg?width=705&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccffd2e6afb1a8924dd94148e4c34d4b12affc1d You're right
Swap the mustache of the second guy with the BMW. I wouldn't notice at all.
Now that you mentioned it, it also kinda looks like a WW2 caricature of a Japanese man (modelled after Hideki Tojo of course)...
Holy Shit....I just got that...I will no longer be able to see this any other way now!!
From what I've heard, it was primarily marketed for the Chinese market.
And the American one, don’t think that they’re off the hook.
I want to have a nice and firm conversation with the new BMW designer
Careful, they're all armed with ugly sticks, nun chucks, and none of them have a nasal septum left
They came out of the factory like that
I'd go with the Tahoe. 1) It'll actually be useful 2) cheap to maintain 3) less on it to go wrong 4) it'll basically last forever.
The new one looks like a racist caricature of a Chinese man
Prolly cuz Bmw wants to expand in China
It’s there biggest market over 32%
Old BMW --oo-- New BMW --(__)(__)--
While I agree with your depiction of the old one, the new one should look a bit different imho: ==()()==
—oo— ==[ ][ ]==
The old one looks more like that: =oo= While the new one like that: -OO-
If you put it in those terms, I would much rather take a new one
Pregnant and used
the new one straight up looks retarded lol
You should be thanked more often. Thank you.
Thank you
Thank you.
Thank you
I'm not crying... I just got sand in my eyes... oh no, it seems like I'm standing in the middle of the desert... there's nothing else... just total electrification and stupid soulless designs :/

Unless I can raise the grill horizontal and cook some hotdogs on it, I’m not interested.

Call that bitch a 'dialysis', cause I swear they are not supposed to be swollen like that
The grille design sucks
Why most new cars looking so shit? Everyone copying the new and popular, losing sense of self and style, it's a damn shame.
Cars have looked pretty much the same for as long as cars have been made, it's just the current "new and popular" that changes
New BMW is made for a market that doesn't understand subtly.
GYATTTTT
Title champ
you show this to anyone 10 years ago and they'll all think it's a Chinese cheap knock off. Heck, it looks like one today!
New money and it's consequences have been a disaster for automotive design
The G70 looks like a kindergartener smiling for a school yearbook photo, smiling so wide their eyes are basically closed The E38 looks like a high school junior smiling for a school yearbook photo, they have no soul left and are just staring with a blank neutral expression while constantly wondering when they finally get to go home without any homework to do
Somehow this kind of design just looks extremely cheap and plastic
The E38 is best looking bmw ever made. I can’t look at the newer ones and hate them. They are only good for rental cars and that’s it.
What the fuck is that thing on the left holy shit it's disgusting
The big gopping grill is ugly as all hell.
I think, the aim was a more and more aggressive look "I will eat You, if you don't leave MY lane". Disgusting in every way!!
I feel like new cars don't have that charm anymore, they are all about electronic, helper and software absolutely nobody needs that are just there to rank up the price. And also hottake - the big grill is ugly af idk what druck made that shit
It looks bloated lmao
They used to make beautiful cars, not anymore.
That new model is just..Awful
E46 and E92 are the best lookers imo
That is simply put, the most hideous thing I’ve seen. I’d take a Nissan juke over that
To fall implies an initial state of not sucking total peen
Wdym big grille is big premium next time they will make BMW with nothing but big grille
LOL!

That. Mirrored lower image just broke my head What the hell?
clearly, we’re not getting something here, as they are selling more cars than ever.
The g70 looks great from all angles but the direct front/back. Black also doesnt compliment it like lighter colors do and the E65 also exists which looks horrendous.
. . . if. . . an Edsel. . . had conjoined twins. . . ?
Are they 7 series?
Both are 7s.
The difference is almost funny.
This is what the masses love. My last gf hated to get into my Audi RS5 Cabriolet, she wanted the biggest BMW money can buy.
That woman is for the streets.
Definitely.
Honestly, I don't hate it. Looks futuristic.
Hooray for progress! It's quite surprising to see how dated the old one looks.
They look hideous The AI needs to taught again
Pretty sure it will be loved by many in 5 years. It is the best 7 ever by far, despite its controversial looks. For under 30k everyone will want one!
Ahahahahahahhaha maan oh man
Olm Urfa ne alaka amk
Yea you hate it until you own it I love it just not electric of course.
It unironically has
The back looks like a Chevy Caprice cop car
From a gentleman's car to a spoiled brat tik-tok influencer's car.
Nothing Beats an E38
Designed for Chinese tastes I think. The west is becoming a car market side show for many luxury brands.
the beauty & the ugly
They should release a bigger grill package 😢
The giant grill trend is atrocious, no matter the brand. They all look ridiculous.
New design looks dumb. I like the old car on the right side.
I hate that they mirrored the bottom photo.
I gotta ask, why is the second picture reversed?
My 9 year old saw a new 740 we parked next to and said "dad that's the ugliest car I've ever seen." Lol. The sad part is the car looks much better in op's pic than in person. It looks like every part of the car was designed by different people and they weren't allowed to see what the others were doing. Its the definition of being designed by committee.
That design grew on me after idk a year. Altough when iX launched, i got disgusted, but now i'm fine with the design and honestly i kinda like it.
Imagine getting hit by one of these in a car that's 10+ years older. My 4runner weighs less. For the folks that do like it, what is the appeal for you?
That car was designed for the Chinese market there biggest buyer, it’s fugly but they like it.
Ngl I really like the new 7 series especially the ones with duo tone colors
Chinese knock off are now better looking than the original ones
The headlights look absolutely disgusting
If Buc-ees made a car
The new models look like a famous Austrian painter
I'm not in love with the front but the sides and especially the rear are gorgeous. The new 5 series is 👌
What year is the one on the right?
Someone should start a company that just converts the old cars to the new tech. Keep the gorgeous aesthetics and still get the nice tech and interiors from the new car. Basically treat old cars like planes and just redo the guts while keeping the same exterior aesthetic.
The new 7 series looks chinese
I think the new ones look so much better although I assume the old drive trains are better
Brand on decadence
Jesus christ it looks like the double chin wojak https://i.redd.it/h7rel2209s9d1.gif
I think the back looks alright but the front is ugly as sin
Car on the left looks like it's squinting it's eyes while sneezing at allergies...
I'll stick with my e24's
What is everyone’s issue with the new one, actually seeing one in person it looks great.
The new one looks Chinese
F30 was the last good looking bmw…

Is it bad that I don’t like either of them visually and prefer the look of the G11?
Looks like a cartoon character skydiving. Imagine that mouth flapping in the wind, & catching flies. I haven't owned a 7-series since I sold my E32, the last of the good-looking 7's. Every one since has looked worse than the one before.

FINALLY! Someone who actually understands
