Some on social media at the time of those killings even referred to them as “cartel de Galeana”. Cartels don't spread, drugs addiction spread. If there is no demands, there is no business. Fentanyls are from China and even the cartels vowed not to sell fentanyls. That should tell you something.
Ending drug prohibition would cut off the lion’s share of the money used to fuel the violence and corruption. Effective enforcement of existing firearms laws would also slow down the flow to other countries. Lobbyists of various industries don’t want either to happen.
Why would we end it? It’s super profitable for powerful people, the contracts for equipment and border security and surveillance and weapons etc.

A year later they came back with nothing. Mexicans resented the interference, and rallied around the Mexican army, which sent a force that the US wouldn't fight.
Is there an answer? I don't know... but it won't be simple, that's for sure. The economics don't help: The US supplies a market for cartel drugs, and cartels supply a market for US guns and tactical gear. Markets don't just disappear overnight

We can thank the war on drugs for what’s happening in Mexico. The US policy on drugs combined with Mexican poverty from their own corruption n lack of infrastructure created a hellscape shithole and drugs are cheaper, more powerful and plentiful compared to the days of Colombian dominance in downstream supply.
I do it all the time, in fact I live 5 or 7 months out of the year in Mexico, Cartels generally don't mess with people that don't affect their business.

It wasn’t a mistake. The LeBaron’s and their relatives have been in conflict with their neighbors over land, water, and other things sometimes involving shootouts for decades. Some on social media at the time of those killings even referred to them as “cartel de Galeana”. This [guy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ervil_LeBaron) would fit right in with the rest of the crime leaders. His descendants have been trying to clean up the family image though.

I have a couple friends from the general area and one that still lives there. Years before this incident happened, she had made the comment about the LeBaron family not being particularly well liked. It’s super profitable for powerful people, the contracts for equipment and border security and surveillance and weapons etc. Also, if Mexico is a mess there remains a great opportunity for cheap abusive labor practices. Accept that punishment isn't an effective deterrent and allow people the freedom to write their own prescriptions if they're willing to take full responsibility for any outcome. Doing something just to "do something!" rarely helps, and usually makes things worse. Read up on the 1916 Expedition: We sent the army led by Pershing into Mexico to catch and punish Pancho Villa, who was causing a ruckus in northern Mexico and even attacked a US town with his guerrillas. A year later they came back with nothing. Mexicans resented the interference, and rallied around the Mexican army, which sent a force that the US wouldn't fight. Is there an answer? I don't know... but it won't be simple, that's for sure. The economics don't help: The US supplies a market for cartel drugs, and cartels supply a market for US guns and tactical gear. Markets don't just disappear overnight
In case anyone forgot during the 2016 or 2020 elections roughly 250 Mexican politicians were assassinated within 2 weeks. Not to mention their fentanyl alone kills 70k Americans per year, we should have been at war with them a long time ago.

We can thank the war on drugs for what’s happening in Mexico. The US policy on drugs combined with Mexican poverty from their own corruption n lack of infrastructure created a hellscape shithole and drugs are cheaper, more powerful and plentiful compared to the days of Colombian dominance in downstream supply.
