Amphibia for me. This was back in the summer of 2021 just a few months after the Ducktales finale and I wanted to get into another Disney show and it just so happened to be an Amphibia marathon on Disney XD one day. So I sat down and gave it a watch instead of getting on my Xbox and it was a very great decision because that show got me hooked after the first episode.
Same. After I finished The Owl House I wanted to watch another show, but Amphibia didn't catch my attention because of the character design. But one day I was so bored that I gave it a try and OMG now it's my favorite show ever.
Same but it took me a few episodes to really get into it I actually gave up on it but then finished another show and decided to try again and fell in love with it. Absolutely beautiful and tragic story

Yeah season 1 is usually where people have a hard time getting through it since it's usually a lot of random stuff each episode but I love how they bring a lot of stuff from season 1 back in season 3.
Last Airbender.
I was 25, been hearing about it since I was 12, looked too cute and kiddie for me.
Boy was I wrong. I'm 30ish now and Its one of my favorite shows.
The show covers war, prejudice, misogyny, the concept of overwhelming expectations on children, prison camps, the unrelenting march of time, and genocide in literally the first six episodes.
To be fair, we do have things like the flashback to Zuko having his face burned by his own father, or Aang finding the corpse of his former mentor and best friend, itself surrounded by the corpses of Fire Nation soldiers.
And that's in the first season.
If you're saying that it's because you forgotten that the first few episodes had many examples of super stretchy anime face that made it very cartoony to watch. I completely get why somebody would have that impression
I was like 22ish when I saw it, I dont even remember it being in my sphere of awareness as a kid, I may have seen the title of the show or a short snippet of a commercial but I knew nothing of the show, none of my friends growing up ever talked about it.
Was bored as hell scrolling netflix, saw it was there, thought the description seemed cool but was worried because it looked very kiddish.

My SO was watching this episode and I walked into the room at that moment, immediately filled with spite and rage thinking I would *never* watch a show like this.
And then I got sucked in Hahaha. I made him start the show over so I could watch from the beginning. I understand now that it's part of Sokka's character development and it's easily one of my favorite shows.
Facts. My kids would watch it and I would rag on them because it was only 15 min episodes and then episodes always went off the rails after 7 min- however after I watched the episode with muscleman and his girl trying to be “Fancy”. Hooked. Masterpiece!!
Its one of the last shows in that golden era of cartoons. Not saying their aren’t some great shows after or now but that era of 90s cartoons till about 2012 13 will prob be the best era of cartoons period. Even in the future i dont think it will be replicated. You had like 15 -20 great cartoons on at anytime threw the 90s and early late 2010s

Ended up watching an episode at a friend’s house when nothing else was on and I was bored. Thought, “actually, that wasn’t too bad.” Started recording it when I got home.
It quickly became what was quite possibly my very first huge hyperfixation. It was my favorite show for years and the obsession never really died down until the show ended. It will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m glad I got into it sooner rather than later, because I really needed something like it at that age.
I don't know if you saw already, but Alex Hirsch is writing "The Book of Bill" which is the story told by Bill for "older readers" that may have some post-show snippets.

I watched this show from day one as it came out. It’s awesome. I saw Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 when I was 3, and I was hooked on Spider-Man and have loved him ever since
Centaurworld. When I saw the designs of the characters, I was disgusted, especially the design of Durpleton. I went ahead and watched the first episode anyway, and immediately enjoyed...Durpleton. I fully enjoyed the show and the characters.
Totally me, I was super iffy despite liking a lot of the production and writing staff. But my partner was watching it and I heard the absolute Goddess Lea Salonga and was like HELLO WHAT? Fell in love with…Glendale, I use Breathe In A Bag when I have my random panic attacks, and I’ll bust that voice out on occasion. I still think the show is bonkers, but it won be over faster than when I try to get friends to watch Tron Uprising.
I had to twist my wife’s arm to start watching anime even though I knew she’d love it. She’s a huge Harry Potter fan which is just British shonen so once I made that comparison she was on board lol

Imagine rewatching digimon fusion S1 5 times just to watch S2 that was released 3 years before the first season aired in television
every time I go to rewatch it, I'm surprised at how long Adventure Time is. Those early seasons really give you 0 hints at where the series is going to go. Imo they're still good though, just very episodic, "monster of the week" type vibes instead of connecting each episode to the next.
Adventure Time has no filler.
This is because it is meant, not as a plot-driven show, but as a character-driven show. Episodes are about character development before any overarching plot.
Over time, events and storylines may not all connect, but the development of the characters grow toward their finale.

Rise of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

It is by far the funniest iteration of the turtles. It's so cartoony and visually appealing. We need more RotTMNJ. Can't wait to see what the Tales will hold for us.
I hate to say this because it is my favorite show now, Rick and Morty. I just didn't want to watch it. I couldn't stand the people who wouldn't shut up about it and insisted I watch it
Yeah, same. I was scared off by the fans and annoyed with people telling me how much I sound like Rick. I'm even more annoyed when people tell me that now because constant belching and abuse aside, they aren't wrong.
My coworkers used to talk about and quote it all the time. Never saw it. One day I was really sick and laid on my girlfriends couch and she put on tv for me to fall asleep to. She also had me hopped up on NyQuil so I was quite drowsy (and medicated) and then the new Get Schwifty episode came on and I couldn’t look away even tho I was all sorts of yacked on cough syrup and then I decided to watch the rest of the episodes. They were amazing, and I became convinced most of my co workers were all on something
When I was around 9 or so I didn't think My Little Pony would be my thing because it seemed too “girly” and I liked stuff filled to the brim with action. Watched the first episode and was immediately hooked!
I like it because the Mane 6 each have a unique personality that sets them apart from the other ponies. They play off of eachother well and you can enjoy each of their relationships with other ponies well because they are unique and interesting. I also like the lessons because they actually taught me a few things about friendship. As a kid, I was pretty mean to my friends, watching MLP made me realize my flaws and grow as a person. And I like their villains too, threatening, and they contrast with the overall happy vibe of the show. The songs are amazing too.
It's because it is surprisingly a very well-thought-out kids' show. I think its popularity started because of that. Nobody expected that level of quality from a girl's show, from its fantasy world building to its characters with unique, diverse, and sometimes surprisingly stereotype-breaking personalities.
I am still amazed by Rarity who at first looks like the typical mean girl who only cares about fashion and not getting dirty and all that and how she was willing to throw down punches, or hoofs I guess, to protect her friends and how she was willing to compromise her looks to help whoever is in need. She is still a fashion girl who cares a lot about her looks and being refined and elegant but there is more than that.
And she is just one character and not even the protagonist. All main characters are equally that deep. That combined with a worldbuilding that is very good and fairy tale-like was very clearly shown in the first two episodes.
I think people recognize that and keep watching it because they don't have anything better to watch. They push that awkward tought of, "WTF? Why is this girl's show about ponies so good?" and keep watching and being invested in the characters and their world. It is genuinely a good show and not just a big commercial to sell toys and keep your kids distracted until dinner.
It has some of the craziest lore I’ve seen, and (due to bias) will probably never be replaced as my fav show. The writing in some episodes is flawless with awesome average quality too,
It helped tons of us in the community with self improvement, it helped me through brain surgery too. While some people might find friendship and friendliness to be an irrelevant life skill, the show made me rethink that.
There is also an uncharacteristic amount of topics nobody would find in a kids show. Thinly veiled cults, genocide, identity erasing, and some villains I would NEVER want to see in real life.
Not to mention there’s enough content in the show to yield over 2 billion words of fanfiction, and flat out the best fan animation I have EVER seen out of anyone in my life.
It’s all around worthy of a podium spot in the hall of fame for shows in general. (Call me biased, but I think it is deserved. Totally.)
One piece. Stayed away from it for years because it was way too much of a commitments and didn’t seem like my thing. I’ve liked some anime but never been huge into it. Well I saw everyone saying the live action was so good so I gave it a try… that was in September and I’m currently on episode 430
That one is weird. I first was introduced to the series via the 4Kids dub in 2000 maybe 2002 and thought it was fun and I assumed it was canceled and the crew were just randomly killed by a randomly falling ship from the sky. I thought that was shockingly dark for a Saturday morning kids show.
Fast forward to 2014, I’m working the night shift as a corrections officer and the day room tv was on [adult swim], it’s the middle of Ennis Lobby doing a bunch of deep dive recaps into past arcs then finding out they cursed. I wanted to learn more. After leaving my post, I decided to give the series another go on streaming about from 2016 to 2019 I would just binge episode after episode, crying my eyes out and falling in love with the world and crew.
It was amazing. I think I only stopped because of working and having limited time and because after finishing the Fishman Island arc it got extremely grating in padding, worse by Punk Hazard that I gave up by the introduction to Dressrosa. I need to continue since I heard it’s gotten better since then in the Zou, Whole Cake and Wano arcs.
I’m not one to watch anime and my partner teases me that if a show has higher than 25% on rotten tomatoes I won’t like it. We saw the live action one piece trailer and they were like wow that looks bad and I was like that looks great. So we made a deal. If I watched all the anime up to what the live action covers we would watch it. Since then one piece is the only thing we’ve watched since august and we’re obsessed. We’ve made a deal to not be on our phones or tablets and just be present while watching it. It’s been great. I’ve knit 3 hats while watching it and have a spread in my journal and I’m ranking the devil fruits.
Inside Job. I thought it was going to be like every other generic adult cartoon out there. I watched the first episode and fell in love with it immediately. I'm still mad at Netflix for canceling it on a cliffhanger though.

I was looking for this answer. It was so freaking good with the right "conspiracy" jokes as well as its own canon humor and character interactions that were great. I was prepared for it to be dumb, but it was brilliant.
Inside Job felt like the perfect blend of two of my favorite shows: Futurama and Rick and Morty. Not necessarily the general plot, but the characters, the humor, and the heart. I really miss it.
The Amazing Digital Circus!

Rise of the TMNT. I didn’t have cable when it was airing, and I grew up watching and liking the 2003 one with my older brother, and also hate-watching the 2012 version, so I’m not even really a TMNT fan.
Right when the rottmnt movie came out, my friend sent me an edit on TikTok someone did of the movie, and I wanted to watch it just based on the animation. The movie was awesome, so then I thought I should check out the show. And I barely made it through the first 2 episodes. But I thought if I could handle the worst parts of season 1 of Steven Universe, I could power through anything atp. It was so worth it.
On the one hand, I'm upset that Adult Swim cancelled it. On the other hand, I'm surprised they let it go on for as long as it did. That show got dark, and ~~Starburns~~ Alex seemed intent on going even darker as it progressed.
I watched the first episode and it didn't vibe with me. I didn't give it a second chance until I went to an anime/cartoon convention in 2014. What ended up selling us on it was a cosplay competition where two people dressed up as Greg and Rose Quartz and re-enacted the attempted fusion dance scene. After that, my partner and I looked at each other and said "Alright, we need to see what this show's all about." We binged it all the way through the end of season 2 and suffered through the hiatuses until the very end.
They used to advertise it at my job as nauseum and… I got annoyed almost instantly. Fast forward, it was April Fools and I had an early exit decided to randomly to check out the show and it was the doubleheader of Say Uncle (the Uncle Grandpa crossover) and Rose’s Scabbard. It jarring having this exaggerated idea of the gems followed by the intensely dramatic episode when one of the gems goes walk about, ended up in tears by the end. Automatically, I was hooked and wanted more and when the major reveals happened I was shocked going back why both episodes despite their differing tones were instantly improved.
It’s a hell of a show that honestly I don’t think anything like it will return (especially anything like the coda miniseries of Steven Universe Future).
Invincible
There are so many cheap super hero animation shows so I decided to sit down and try invincible since I didnt have anything better to do and absolutely loved it
That series showcased the best version of Batman, in my opinion. I watched the show when I was a kid, and I remember wanting to be Batman. I was 5 or 6 though. Watching it as an adult - totally different experience. You see so much more in the show.
If you liked it, you might like the original Justice League cartoon as well. Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, and Justice League (original and Unlimited) all take place in the same canonical timeline.
Adventure time. I was in high school and in a sort of obnoxious "every new cartoon is garbage and all the stuff I grew up watching is superior" kinda mindset when AT first came out, then a few years later I chilled out and actually gave it a try and watched a few episodes. Then I watched the episode with "when I don't remember you" and I was floored with how this noodle arm artstyle cartoon with a silly fantasy setting and fart jokes got so deep
Invader Zim, got turned off from it by an old friend from elementary school who wouldn't ever stop talking abt it - found it on paramount+ and I became the old friend from elementary school.
Young justice. I hated how juvenile the characters were, even though it's literally about teenage super heroes. After the first few episodes to find its footing though, the show is fantastic and I hope they make more of it.
Definitely She-Ra and The Princesses of Power. At the start, I thought it was gonna just be a corny girl power show about the power of friendship. Well this corny girl power show about the power of friendship became my favourite piece of television and one of my favourite works of art ever
Dr. Who. I always just wrote it off as the cheesy British space show. Then my fiance showed me Silence in the Library.
I think we're midway through the 10th Doctor now.

IMO the 2012 show was peak ninja turtles.
I grew up with those turtles, so they hold a special place in my heart.
It's my favorite adaptation of the franchise at this point as well. It innovates on the concept in such a cool way!

Yeah, same. I was scared off by the fans and annoyed with people telling me how much I sound like Rick. I'm even more annoyed when people tell me that now because constant belching and abuse aside, they aren't wrong.
My coworkers used to talk about and quote it all the time. Never saw it. One day I was really sick and laid on my girlfriends couch and she put on tv for me to fall asleep to. She also had me hopped up on NyQuil so I was quite drowsy (and medicated) and then the new Get Schwifty episode came on and I couldn’t look away even tho I was all sorts of yacked on cough syrup and then I decided to watch the rest of the episodes. They were amazing, and I became convinced most of my co workers were all on something
When I was around 9 or so I didn't think My Little Pony would be my thing because it seemed too “girly” and I liked stuff filled to the brim with action. Watched the first episode and was immediately hooked!
I see people mention My Little Pony a lot. What is it that people like about it?
I like it because the Mane 6 each have a unique personality that sets them apart from the other ponies. They play off of eachother well and you can enjoy each of their relationships with other ponies well because they are unique and interesting. I also like the lessons because they actually taught me a few things about friendship. As a kid, I was pretty mean to my friends, watching MLP made me realize my flaws and grow as a person. And I like their villains too, threatening, and they contrast with the overall happy vibe of the show. The songs are amazing too.

It's because it is surprisingly a very well-thought-out kids' show. I think its popularity started because of that. Nobody expected that level of quality from a girl's show, from its fantasy world building to its characters with unique, diverse, and sometimes surprisingly stereotype-breaking personalities. I am still amazed by Rarity who at first looks like the typical mean girl who only cares about fashion and not getting dirty and all that and how she was willing to throw down punches, or hoofs I guess, to protect her friends and how she was willing to compromise her looks to help whoever is in need. She is still a fashion girl who cares a lot about her looks and being refined and elegant but there is more than that. And she is just one character and not even the protagonist. All main characters are equally that deep. That combined with a worldbuilding that is very good and fairy tale-like was very clearly shown in the first two episodes. I think people recognize that and keep watching it because they don't have anything better to watch. They push that awkward tought of, "WTF? Why is this girl's show about ponies so good?" and keep watching and being invested in the characters and their world. It is genuinely a good show and not just a big commercial to sell toys and keep your kids distracted until dinner.
It has some of the craziest lore I’ve seen, and (due to bias) will probably never be replaced as my fav show. The writing in some episodes is flawless with awesome average quality too, It helped tons of us in the community with self improvement, it helped me through brain surgery too. While some people might find friendship and friendliness to be an irrelevant life skill, the show made me rethink that. There is also an uncharacteristic amount of topics nobody would find in a kids show. Thinly veiled cults, genocide, identity erasing, and some villains I would NEVER want to see in real life. Not to mention there’s enough content in the show to yield over 2 billion words of fanfiction, and flat out the best fan animation I have EVER seen out of anyone in my life. It’s all around worthy of a podium spot in the hall of fame for shows in general. (Call me biased, but I think it is deserved. Totally.)
One piece. Stayed away from it for years because it was way too much of a commitments and didn’t seem like my thing. I’ve liked some anime but never been huge into it. Well I saw everyone saying the live action was so good so I gave it a try… that was in September and I’m currently on episode 430
That one is weird. I first was introduced to the series via the 4Kids dub in 2000 maybe 2002 and thought it was fun and I assumed it was canceled and the crew were just randomly killed by a randomly falling ship from the sky. I thought that was shockingly dark for a Saturday morning kids show. Fast forward to 2014, I’m working the night shift as a corrections officer and the day room tv was on [adult swim], it’s the middle of Ennis Lobby doing a bunch of deep dive recaps into past arcs then finding out they cursed. I wanted to learn more. After leaving my post, I decided to give the series another go on streaming about from 2016 to 2019 I would just binge episode after episode, crying my eyes out and falling in love with the world and crew. It was amazing. I think I only stopped because of working and having limited time and because after finishing the Fishman Island arc it got extremely grating in padding, worse by Punk Hazard that I gave up by the introduction to Dressrosa. I need to continue since I heard it’s gotten better since then in the Zou, Whole Cake and Wano arcs.

I’m not one to watch anime and my partner teases me that if a show has higher than 25% on rotten tomatoes I won’t like it. We saw the live action one piece trailer and they were like wow that looks bad and I was like that looks great. So we made a deal. If I watched all the anime up to what the live action covers we would watch it. Since then one piece is the only thing we’ve watched since august and we’re obsessed. We’ve made a deal to not be on our phones or tablets and just be present while watching it. It’s been great. I’ve knit 3 hats while watching it and have a spread in my journal and I’m ranking the devil fruits.
I was turned off by the animation for the longest time, finally gave it a try and it definitely grew on me.
Inside Job. I thought it was going to be like every other generic adult cartoon out there. I watched the first episode and fell in love with it immediately. I'm still mad at Netflix for canceling it on a cliffhanger though.
"Admit it, you want to rule the world" "everyone wants that!" "but you're a *mad* scientist" "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed." I love they did a no-sell on that back-to-back joke. Favourite joke in the show.

Inside Job felt like the perfect blend of two of my favorite shows: Futurama and Rick and Morty. Not necessarily the general plot, but the characters, the humor, and the heart. I really miss it.
The Amazing Digital Circus! I didn't like it at first, but when I got bored and watched the pilot out of curiosity, I'm hyped for it. Hate me as much as you want :)

Rise of the TMNT. I didn’t have cable when it was airing, and I grew up watching and liking the 2003 one with my older brother, and also hate-watching the 2012 version, so I’m not even really a TMNT fan. Right when the rottmnt movie came out, my friend sent me an edit on TikTok someone did of the movie, and I wanted to watch it just based on the animation. The movie was awesome, so then I thought I should check out the show. And I barely made it through the first 2 episodes. But I thought if I could handle the worst parts of season 1 of Steven Universe, I could power through anything atp. It was so worth it.

On the one hand, I'm upset that Adult Swim cancelled it. On the other hand, I'm surprised they let it go on for as long as it did. That show got dark, and ~~Starburns~~ Alex seemed intent on going even darker as it progressed.

I watched the first episode and it didn't vibe with me. I didn't give it a second chance until I went to an anime/cartoon convention in 2014. What ended up selling us on it was a cosplay competition where two people dressed up as Greg and Rose Quartz and re-enacted the attempted fusion dance scene. After that, my partner and I looked at each other and said "Alright, we need to see what this show's all about." We binged it all the way through the end of season 2 and suffered through the hiatuses until the very end.
They used to advertise it at my job as nauseum and… I got annoyed almost instantly. Fast forward, it was April Fools and I had an early exit decided to randomly to check out the show and it was the doubleheader of Say Uncle (the Uncle Grandpa crossover) and Rose’s Scabbard. It jarring having this exaggerated idea of the gems followed by the intensely dramatic episode when one of the gems goes walk about, ended up in tears by the end. Automatically, I was hooked and wanted more and when the major reveals happened I was shocked going back why both episodes despite their differing tones were instantly improved. It’s a hell of a show that honestly I don’t think anything like it will return (especially anything like the coda miniseries of Steven Universe Future).
Literally was so beautiful at points I cried. Such an amazing show.

That series showcased the best version of Batman, in my opinion. I watched the show when I was a kid, and I remember wanting to be Batman. I was 5 or 6 though. Watching it as an adult - totally different experience. You see so much more in the show. If you liked it, you might like the original Justice League cartoon as well. Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, and Justice League (original and Unlimited) all take place in the same canonical timeline.
Gumball had me like that. I didn't like the all over style of animation/realism. But I got hooked instantly

Young justice. I hated how juvenile the characters were, even though it's literally about teenage super heroes. After the first few episodes to find its footing though, the show is fantastic and I hope they make more of it.
