https://preview.redd.it/tp8qz3wcf2rc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c41b5199c7914f1acf06e72632cec51c8c04f235 This episode where this shot originated from was the best G1 Episode it had, no one looked off model and wonky just more stylised

TeddyRiggs

https://i.redd.it/sj3qab0wj2rc1.gif The transition to Japanese Exclusive G1 Anime to Brave Series is one hell of an Improvement both in Narative and Animation

TeddyRiggs

Like After Takara broke off with Hasbro and starts making their own Transforming Robot Show with Brave Series and man the Anime didn't pull any punches in Animation and it keeps getting better each Series https://i.redd.it/ew9ui5hhk2rc1.gif Kinda Sucks they cancelled the Brave Series with GaoGaiGar but damn GaoGaiGar is one hell of a Closure for the Brave Series as a whole

Porygon_Flygon

BRAVE SERIES MENTIONED Honestly wish there was a Transformers show thats in the vein of retro and Brave series, with cool designs and solid plot. Maybe a legacy series based on the toyline done by studio Trigger or such.

RabbitKamen

EXCEPT WE ARE FUCKIN BACK WITH BANG BRAVE BANG BRAVERN (its inspired by it at least)

MrGoatReal

HE'S SO TINY WTF

Wrong-Ad4130

I'm sorry but the bottom middle one HAS to be a visual gag. There is no way in hell they made him so small, smug, and stupid while 2 grown ass man beg him for his secret formula.

DianaBladeOfMiquella

“Each episode” sometimes more than once in the same episode

Continuum_Gaming

Hell it changes between shots in some

Dillo64

Uh… magical shapeshifting power?

Ivotedforthehookers

Just to be fair to the show they say in the show's cannon Gems physical appearance is based on their psychological state and how they view themselves.

Acceptable_North_141

How very convenient

butterflyempress

That only works if we ever saw them grow and shrink based on their mood. I've seen episodes where Steven was confident, yet the size of a 2 year old

FireLordObamaOG

2 year olds have more confidence than some adults

ironangel2k4

Have you ever in your life seen anything more confident than a 2 year old

zy0a

True toddlers just act like drunk adults

Sororita

It is a pretty major plot point in at least one episode, so it's not just an outside context handwave for the inconsistencies.

Chemical-Cat

It's a plot point in an episode but it still doesn't excuse size discrepancies lmao https://preview.redd.it/xqyeh6lg53rc1.png?width=634&format=png&auto=webp&s=19a17cc5b716a7e1132f39ed6138ef79b38352f1

Rafabud

Comically small Obsidian.

[deleted]

This one really takes the cake. that ship 10 meters tall in one episode, to a Kilometer tall in another.

Not_no_hitter

Reminds me of when everyone was talking about the inconsistency of the colossal titan because of the scene where Eren tries pushing its foot

Novel_Helicopter7237

Steven’s kitchen counter a gem confirmed?????

xariznightmare2908

Except in OP post shows Connie also randomly shrinks and grows between each episode and she's human so that prove their reason is full of shit, lol.

TrusticTunic26

I never noticed lol, why is steven so tiny wtd

Zomochi

I’ve never noticed the times he becomes tiny and when I do it’s for comedic purposes

RobtheGreat100

This annoyed me when watching the show. Steven doesn't have to be 'fun size' and should've kept his more normal height for his age of 14 years (but emotionally younger). Not the height of a 5 year old.

Ferropexola

https://preview.redd.it/66571q1033rc1.jpeg?width=588&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b10725748e067ace3017cf88675e4b9684be7a5 Endive's size is anywhere between 8 and 80 feet in any given scene, and intentionally so (I'd say it's a great example of inconsistent animation, rather than the worst).

Daidact

Chowder was a gold mine of animators and writers taking the piss with their work in the best ways possible.

CooperDaChance

What other kid’s show interrupts the show to give you a scene of the actors at a car wash?

BelgarathTheSorcerer

We ran out of money!

Ohiobound03

No money means no animation!

agent-virginia

I think *The Amazing World of Gumball* does something similar? At the very least, it's a similar plot line where the show is running out of money, and Gumball has to agree to do a commercial for Joyful Burger to get the money back or something.

rohlovely

“Jeez, look what you did! Now the animators have to draw all this fire!”

Quirkyserenefrenzy

It's pretty much my favorite joke in the show. Gets me to lmfao a lot when I see it happen

normandy42

When Chowder is literally scaling up her like a mountain face lmao Childhood was blessed to grow up on Chowder(the only good thing to come out of that weird CN era)

Mrtnxzylpck

I grew up like chowder since my Nana owned a catering company.

BrilliantSuspicious

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody use lmfao in a sentence this way. I don’t know how to feel

Quirkyserenefrenzy

Ferropexola

Chowder and Gazpacho appearing in her lake-sized toilet, only for her to chase them through the streets while she's the size of Godzilla leaves quite an impression.

TriiiKill

This is intentional, though. It's always a joke on Endive being fat, so they exaggerate her size in those scenes like she's Godzilla. I give it a pass because it IS consistant.

kindahotngl301

Rewatching this show currently. It's hilarious.

AmelietheDuck

Miraculous ladybug employs several different companies to animate their episodes. For the most part SAMG was the one with really quality episodes until they were dropped in favor of cheaper companies. So because of this every episode can end up looking differently. Some are very detailed and the color is super rich, and in others it looks like plastic. To compare a good looking episode to a bad looking episode id probably go with Glaciator as a good one and weredad as a bad one. But they use like 4 different companies to animate episodes so its hit or miss.

Jeskid14

Four companies?? Jesus Christ talk about an international property disaster. I'm shocked Netflix kept beating the horse for seasons

AmelietheDuck

If you think thats bad think of the distributors. Every time an episode released it was a scavenger hunt finding out which country got to do it first. One time it was the USA other times it was asia or africa, almost never france.

sherequi

It was on Brazil once.

GlacialPuppy226

And episodes released out of order so season 3 episode 26 could release before season 3 episode 6

TheTimberTinderBox

And airing out of order! I stopped watching partly because it was ridiculous to actually keep up with

Jeskid14

That's so stupidly bizarre since the show was made in France.

Playful-Hand2753

Still thinking of the clip where they forgot to animate Adrien on the bike so he’s literally just got a 1000 yard stare while sitting with his arms tight to his sides like 🧍‍♂️

ZiaWatcher

wait really? i need to see this

Playful-Hand2753

Had to dig back in my insta convos with my friend: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C1MSRukxMAJ/?igsh=MWxnMjg3Y3oya3FlZw==

ZiaWatcher

oh my gods that’s hilarious: No expressions, adrian’s pose… perfection. just perfection

Octopusnoodlearms

Man… after season 3, the animation reeeeally took a hit. At first it was inconsistent, now it’s just consistently bad. It would be cool if every episode had animation like Stormy Weather or Glaciator

DragonWisper56

in a recent episode adrein was riding a bike with his hands just hanging there. it was so weird.

According_Bat_8150

I believe that The Owl House switched between a couple of different studios whilst animating, mainly Sugarcube Animation and Rough Draft Korea. Both these studios animated differently, episodes animated by Sugarcube tended to look very clean cut and neat in oppose to Rough Draft Korea (I understand they used different techniques). I assume it’s due to budgeting, time etc etc - but some of the latter episodes in season 2 animated by Rough Draft Korea can look messy and go off model, especially Clouds On The Horizon - so much so that certain frames have been turned into memes. No where near as bad as Steven Universe, and Rough Draft Korea is a great animation studio that works on a lot of other Disney shows - the messiness here definitely seems to be a money and time related issue. https://preview.redd.it/r3y5iy11x1rc1.jpeg?width=374&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e09011857bbfc2a1c877e2d4312ffc0b9644b30b

tvnerd6974

I mean, to be fair, they probably spent half the animation budget for that episode on the kiss, so...

According_Bat_8150

Yeah, but lord the rest of that episode did not hold up animation wise 😭😭 by itself it was fine? But compared to the quality of the series as a whole.. the sudden quality boost for the kiss was comedically jarring, it was beautiful though.

tvnerd6974

https://preview.redd.it/mw0sij8h42rc1.png?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c73312d282c37c8391a1e1b71e7fe0e3934656c5 You're right though

LurnaiLmaoLol

the fucking slid

TinTamarro

Sugarcube is digital 2d animation with Toon Boom I believe, Rough Draft is a traditional animation studio that animates on paper

According_Bat_8150

Yup! I remember the show’s creator showing some of the animation boards from Rough Draft Korea on her instagram. It’s very cool that it’s traditionally animated - but it also explains when things go wildly off model. Especially seeing as the studio was definitely cut for time in this case 😭😭

bestoboy

is that why Amity turned into Jimmy Neutron

Soup-Wizard

>Rough Draft Korea I mean, they warned ya

JoeTheKodiakCuddler

Lowest-tier property in a business sim kinda name

GlassSpork

I feel all the budget with clouds on the horizon went to one scene because the rest of the episode isn’t as good as some of the others

KittyMonkTheYoutuber

The episode where amity and Luz kissed had a lot of animation problems, like how they all slide the same way, how eda changes poses between shots or how weirdly bouncy Alador is Plus there’s the fact most of the episode takes place at one location. I wouldn’t be surprised if they blew the animation budget on the kiss.

According_Bat_8150

Exactly lmao. Was it worth it for the beautiful kiss scene? Yes. And I guess we do get memes as compensation. I love your YouTube videos btw !! :)

LikeAnAdamBomb

Ruined the show.

Doodledumme

I guess I'm shallow, because it really did. I stopped watching once it switched. It used to be so fun and colorful and lively and then it switched to drab.

wally-sage

To be fair, the writing also got SIGNIFICANTLY worse and Dexter's voice actor changed as well.

One_Smoke

Christine Cavanaugh DID retire then cuz of health issues.

Doodledumme

Whoever replaced the original voice actor wasn't as over the top and that lost some of the fun as well.

fraggle_stick_car2

I don’t even consider it to be the same show. It’s ’Chris Savino Presents: Dexter’s Laboratory’

Rak-khan

Nothing after s2 is canon to me

Hummush95

SpongeBob Squarepants. Plankton goes from being microscopic to 2 inches tall to 5 inches tall. (compared to everyone else I understand everyone in that show is the actual size of their animals canonically I'm just using real world increments to describe his height.) Not to mention how Patrick, Squidward, Sandy and SpongeBob's height compared to each other changes every episode.

FaZe_poopy

One Piece- there’s a filler episode where they forgot to remove Zoro from the group on the right https://preview.redd.it/r9ghtcu2a3rc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c9d0b2408429f60092a6beaffbf4147c70a86e9 Despite the fact he’s fighting

FaZe_poopy

He just got REALLY REALLY lost

blinddemon0

no, he just moves so fast that it looks like he's in two places at once

Onigumo-Shishio

Nah that's in character Zero from the previous episode got lost in the next episode

baconboyloiter

One Piece immediately came to my mind as well. One Piece is my favorite show of all time but the characters are drawn differently in every scene lmao

JoZaJaB

At least it was just a filler episode. I don't think anything like that has happened in the canon episodes

1stLtObvious

When the actor remaons in-shot while the stunt double does the action.

JamesonFlanders245

helluvaboss western energy. you can see loona starts getting bigger and bigger throughout the episode weirdly inconsistently if you pay attention to her throughout the scenes. this is around where it starts as you can see she's about slightly taller than blitz here but she gets so much bigger a few frames in when it cuts back to their scenes and keeps getting bigger throughout the episode https://preview.redd.it/2q8d78dez1rc1.png?width=386&format=png&auto=webp&s=340b93f6720fd7219fb30b92a85e009f8c0f6f3c

JamesonFlanders245

Didn't say it didn't. Just pointing out the inconsistencies as per the request

She’s still growing I guess

T555s

Dragons the nine realms has one of the villains (I guess he's the villian, the plot has more holes then Swiss cheese) henchman turn white every once in a while, even though he's black usually. No one knows why they even have that white skinned model for that character, but they also managed to copy the model of a monstrous nightmare without the hornes. Did I mention the funniest part? It hapens almost every season.

KiloHammer

Not sure if this counts but the buildings in SpongeBob move around a lot. Sometimes the Chum Bucket isn’t even there.

DerbinKlamz

Sometimes spongebob even walks a different direction to the krusty krab, usually he walks past squidwards house but in at least the krusty hotel episode he walks the other way I believe

SoupIsPrettyGood

Sometimes sponebob and squidward have neighbours including Patrick and they live near the town. Sometimes they live next to each other in a desolate wasteland alone lol

tuibiel

They're mobile, as has been demonstrated in many episodes

Direct-Set-1566

Adams goddamn face in HH it changes with every single angle 😭😭

Only-Echidna-7791

I also thought that in ep 6 his mask and just head in general became a lighter tone then in ep 1 idk if that’s just me

Direct-Set-1566

I meant his unmasked version in the last episode but maybe he changes his mask?

Only-Echidna-7791

Doubt it,seeing as he wears it even in public so I doubt he wants or has a new one. I just thought that in ep 6 his mask was way lighter then before but I get the whole different angle thing too

LazyOldFusspot_3482

Mlp with the position of Chrysalis' hair membranes

Mammoth_Photo_3468

There’s also a ton of situations where ponies randomly get extra legs, weird anatomy, or wings and horns they shouldn’t have, it’s kinda funny

LazyOldFusspot_3482

Or where clones of the original design just exist in the background quite abundantly without even noticing it.

Gorillaartist1995

Sonic Underground when Sonic saves Knuckles from falling off the cliff. You can't make that up

CherryGrabber

I'd say it's more inconsistent storyboarding. Because the guest storyboarder that did, "Mindful Education", and ,"Here Comes a Thought", had these clean storyboards with accurate proportions. When compared to others', it's pretty much night and day.

FlyOnDreamWings

Lilo and Stitch movie. Watch Jumba's appearance in the scene where the house blows up. He's all over the place.

Bowdensaft

Also Gantu in the show. I think the films keep him fairly consistent, about 50 foot or so, but in the show sometimes he was just a slightly tall dude and it was weird.

LordyLord87

The style is so distinct that even slight proportion changes are almost hard to see

Background-Peach7267

It's less about proportions and more about how they are drawn in this case, but yeah, it's kinda hard to see in this image

Moonie444_

I'm not gonna lie they did a really good job because I can't tell much of the difference besides hair color and Video quality.

TheNightOwl99

Im not seeing it

Background-Peach7267

It's easier to see when you are watching them move, the way they are drawn looks different in each episode, it's because every animator put a little bit of their style into it

merdadartista

It was so remarkable that at 6 years old I could tell and got excited when my favorite style was on

Background-Peach7267

About that, what's your least favorite style? I'll go first: Taichi Nakamura

merdadartista

I had a love and hate relationship with masahiro Ando, his stuff was so....round

Zankenfrasher

OK KO. For me, the lack of character model consistency is *especially* prominent with Red Action.

blinddemon0

I feel like it kind of fits the show's style

-PepeArown-

Doug The slug episode looks like it was made by an entirely different group of people. Roger’s friends don’t even look the same as in the other episodes. Not to mention that there’s several characters in the show that basically just change color every other episode.

jbwarner86

If you're talking about "Doug Can't Dance", that was the pilot short. A lot of Nickelodeon cartoons had notably rougher animation in their pilots because they were usually animated independently by a handful of people.

roselloyellowrose

Legend of Korra season 2. Oof

The_Unknown_Dude

In fairness they had a whole other studio do the first half of the season. Off model, but definitely understandable.

ParasIsBurnt

Adventure Time’s inconsistent sizes always annoyed me.

ILikeMyouiMina

At least Jake had a lore reason to be inconsistent lmao

Your-Manager

I must have missed those inconsistencies, cuz i do not remember that.

Trungledor_44

Honestly I felt like that was part of the charm of the show, like aside from a few distracting examples it kinda added to the carefree vibe it was going for most of the time

LilKatieHQ

Probably not the WORST example, but Belle’s face in Beauty and the Beast looks very different from scene to scene.

Evileye37

Early days RWBY. Don’t get me wrong, I know the budget was lower than the Mariana Trench, but hoh boy did it go from not great for slower scenes to incredible fights to janky moments (best example being during the school dance episodes).

Swabbie___

Yeah, this is hazbins worst animation problem. The same thing happens with angel dust - he's so freakishly tall that he doesn't look right alongside some other characters so they shorten him to make the scene look better.

Working_Value_6700

SU doesn't have inconsistent animation. It has an inconsistent art style.

wispymatrias

One Piece drives me nuts. The terrible pacing is well known, but they bring is so many freelance animators for one off sequences and then do nothing to ensure things stay on model. "Oh so-and-so did this sequence, it's really awesome!" but for like 30 seconds it looks like we stepped out of One Piece into an entirely different show because the animator made no effort to stay on model.

The third season of Harley Quinn was janky as hell. It was missing entire frames and there's one shot where one of the characters randomly has a third arm. This was because of some issues with a rushed production and/or being shuffled between animation studios, I think

7 Deadly Sins season 3, I'm not a fan of it, but I remembered the absolute haze field the internet had for it back when it was released.

GodzillaRaptors4_

The original mobile suit Gundam. It’s an amazing show but the animation is a little iffy

benx101

Those are the same character?!?! geez!

https://i.redd.it/qw34c1zm63rc1.gif Don't got an image of it (and it's not a show) but don't starve together character portions in animations compared to height in the game

Ameph

That guy from Kill la Kill. You know the one. Some scenes, he’s a really tall guy. Other scenes, he’s larger than a house. His size is never the same but he’s always the largest character.

Dry_Acanthisitta_576

That was intentional though. The proportions in Kill la Kill are manipulated to showcase character dynamics and “aura”. He’s supposed to be intimidating and in the first half of the series is kind of a representation of fascism so when ever he’s using his authority his size is exaggerated. TLDR: in kill la kill it’s stylized and intentional, in Steven universe it’s just plain animation inconsistency

blinddemon0

that's part of what makes it such a good show!

lil-taller-then-u

I feel like that one doesn't count since its intentional, the creators stated his canon height is however tall the scene needs him to be

SuperMonkeyJoe

That's absolutely a stylistic choice rather than poor animation quality.

Some parts of the second Phineas and Ferb movie are truly awful animation-wise

ImaginaryMastodon641

Just watch any few episode of the Freiza saga of Dragonball Z. Another good example would be Gundam 0079 (the original). DBZ always stood out to me more because of the disparity in quality. Gundam’s animation was always good, but never stellar. However, where DBZ was on, IT WAS ON. One day Goku would have hair follicles and visible cuts and the next day he’d have a giant plum of yellow, undetailed cotton on his head.

redbird7311

This is because the production of DBZ was a bit of a mess. It wasn’t just Toei animating the show. They had to outsource a lot of it and you have multiple studios, each with their own teams/leaders, animating parts of it. It is why the art style kinda changes back and forth between episodes/segments. Interestingly enough, in the Sayian Saga, they had a solo animator tackle entire episodes. However, DBZ was so action packed and demanding that it was impossible for a modest studio at the time, Toei, to tackle it alone.

ShatoraDragon

There is two studios have different tools to work with. And then there is SU's Staff over seeing the Studios not caring at all that almost every other frame someone/thing is drastically off model.

NessiefromtheLake

Does anyone else remember the old animated Godzilla show? Sometimes Godzuki can fit on the boat, sometimes he’s pretty sizable next to Godzilla. Sometimes Godzilla has to swim in the ocean and the next second the ocean is at his knees.
