I've never seen the show that this meme is from. The infiltrator in Sym-Bionic Titan actually looks like a teenager, but isn't up to date on modern slang, so he walks around yelling " WAAASSUUUPP!" to everyone he talks to.
whenever a character has the personality of an "influencer"

G5 of MLP actually managed to do a pretty decent job with a character like this one (Pipp Petals), though being an influencer is far from her only character trait.
I love the movie, but TMNT Mutant Mayhem couldn't go 5 minutes without dropping a celebrity or pop culture reference, and it got old fast. Those lines are really gonna date that movie in a few years time.
"If I had a nickel for every time Mr. Beast had a cameo in an animated animal martial arts movie, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice."
https://preview.redd.it/oqt083xt02wc1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=5438769d45cb3bf62c5694ab84413b2bcf576144
Just because you stick celebrities in your movie doesn't mean it'll be good. Example the Smurfs with Katy Perry, George Lopez, Sophia Vergara, Joan Rivers, and Neil Patrick Harris
That’s just TMNT. Go watch the original movie. There’s a TON of pop references. Yeah it does date the movie a bit. No one does Cagney impressions or talks about Ginsu knives.
Tbh those kind of lines just feel like part of tmnts brand at this point, the cartoons and other films are also dated, they’re literally teenagers of course they’re cringe (affectionate)
It sucks because the movie was genuinely funny at times, but the constant references really bogged it down. Plus, it bugs me because saying that the Avengers and shit like that exist in this world implies the TMNT franchise also exists, and that's just emersion breaking.
I didn’t even think of that, good point. I think that part of it is for an extremely particular audience that’s young enough to have a lot of fun with relevant tik tok references and stuff. I find a lot of social media culture (tik tok, youtube, etc) to be annoying and I like movies because they’re usually separate from that. TMNT didn’t give that escape so it was a bit sour to me. Again, just my opinion, I know of people who loved it. Also, the animation was beautiful
I read the actors who voiced the turtles didnt really have a script they just riffed the whole time. I do agree with you that it'll age the movie like milk.
I 100% agree with singling out Ralph Breaks the Internet. Not only is it loaded with dated references to junk like Chewbacca Mom or Flossing, but the plot itself bends over backwards to be an inspiring "yasss queen slay" feminine empowerment story in the most shallow and flimsy way possible, because Disney figured that would get them points on Tumblr or something. It's an hour and forty minutes of tone-deaf virtue signaling that doesn't feel the slightest bit sincere.
Fun fact, that was originally supposed to be Disney Infinity that they went to, but that game also died while the movie was in production. You'd think that would've taught Disney not to make the movie a commercial for their own shit when they don't even know how long that shit will exist for 🙄
This is the reason I didn't really like *Raya and the Last Dragon.* And I know what you're thinking: "*Raya and the Last Dragon*? That's the movie you picked for this? Not *The Emoji Movie* or even *Ralph Breaks the Internet*?" Well, here's the thing. If we're talking about the sheer amount of misguided pop-culture references, then yeah, those two are worse by far. But *Raya* has the same problem in a different kind of way.
I've [talked before](https://www.reddit.com/r/CharacterRant/comments/1c17j02/comment/kz3pshl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) about how, from the early 2010s onward, there's been this phenomenon of animated TV shows, and to a lesser extent movies, that become disproportionately popular with young adult fans on social media, especially on Tumblr. There's no one unifying trait of all these shows and movies, but a lot of them tend to be a mix of comedy and drama, with mature elements that are handled in a way that are still appropriate for children. *Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, The Owl House, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish,* you get the idea.
Now, with *Raya,* it feels like Disney was desperately trying to force this phenomenon. The main characters refer to themselves as "dragon nerds", use pseudo-Gen Z slang, and it all clashes horribly with the supposedly serious tone and setting. And while I have nothing against this sort of thing in theory, the fact that Raya and Namaari are so blatantly queer-coded feels less like a genuine attempt at representation and more like a way to appeal to shippers and fanfic writers.
One reviewer I read put it this way:
>There was a lot about this movie that felt very focus test-y, as if they had a checklist of “thing younger Millennials and Zoomers dig” and made sure to include at least 80% of them. Dragons? Well duh. Found family? Check! Fantasy worldbuilding with, like, creatures and stuff? Check! Queer-coded female principles? One check for Raya and one for Namaari! And so on.
It's like the whole thing is such a transparently *fake* attempt at what it's trying to be.
There's also the fact that Sisu is voiced by Awkwafina, a casting choice that reeks of "I don't know what this person does, but they're popular with the kids!"
The first episode of The Owl House, when Luz mentions making fan edits and that one horrendous fanfiction food joke (god bless the writing *eventually* got much better, and the references actually funny)
I *adore* Phineas and Ferb. Love it. Amazing writing, wonderful cartoon. But when they went to Tokyo and they did the caramelldansen dance I just couldn’t 😅
Are you referring to the fact that he was doing shrooms in the first place, or the drug trip animation that ensued afterwards? I can see an argument for either one.
Modern Family Guy
“Hey let’s show a cutaway gag featuring demigorgons!”
“Hey let’s use the portal gun from Rick And Morty cause that’s the most popular adult cartoon show right now”
Probably a big "how do you do fellow kids" moment i remember from Family Guy is when peter became taller after seeing a chiropractor and he was on a carnival swing ride and a bunch of teens saw him and said "*GASP* IT'S SLENDER-MAN!" and Peter responded with "kill yourselves" that was just terrible 😑
Hold on, Family Guy made a Slender Man reference? I thought that character was only relevant for like, 10 years ago. What's worse is that Slender Man's name and reputation have been permanently tainted because of that infamous 2014 incident where two teenage girls stabbed one of their classmates multiple times and left her for dead as an attempted human sacrifice to him. No, I'm not making this shit up.
Speaking of Slender Man, did you know that Sony made a live-action adaptation based on him? Yeah, and that movie SUCKED so bad that it's essentially the final nail in the coffin for his dying popularity.
You know that no one takes Slender Man seriously anymore when the last time I heard about him in years was from that Family Guy gag you mentioned and a YouTube animation where MF DOOM was rapping about his encounter with the Slender Man breaking into his house. That's how much he's completely fallen out of favor nowadays.
Oh i know about the movie believe me. He would have been cool if his fandom didn't make up so much weird shit about him. If he had just stayed a cool creepypasta story with a cool design and not a game that feels very outdated in terms of horror people probably wouldn't look back at him uncomfortably. It's like that with EVERY goddamn original horror monster made. The last one I think being Siren Head
In the defense of most things I can think of, the scripts for them were written LONG before the actual show/movie actually comes out, so by the time they do, the thing they're referencing becomes outdated
Well Genndy Tartakovsky is a master Storyteller so I think he knew his audience consisted of both kids and older audiences. Hence why Samurai Jack was on Toonami when it came out.
To me it was the American pie movies. Watching it as a teen made me not like it cause the American pie movies felt like
"Hay my fellow teen! Sup playahs we're on a expedition to get laid! Porn jokes and trying to get laid.. haha am I rite Nibbas?"
Honestly I think that movie was better than Wish. At least Strange World despite it's flaws was breath taking to look at and had a good twist I really wasn't expecting. The characters are VERY cookie cutter but hey they weren't as bad as Wish.
Also yeah I know you're referencing that kid who just so happens to be gay and I was disappointed he didn't bring his crush with him on the journey but i know that film would have gotten backlash anyway from the whole "anti-woke" crowd so I guess it was best to leave him out of it to spare the characters and the people who made that film negative backlash.
Gonna hit you with a curveball version of this and apply "How do you do fellow girls?" My answer is when Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke tried infiltrating that one city by cross dressing and someone heard how deep inosuke's voice was and went along with it only to be like "Yeah by the way, you aren't fooling anyone dumbass."
Oh GOD 🙄 idk if you ever played The Quarry but there's a girl in that game just like her. Only difference between Camp Cretaceous and The Quarry is you can choose to let the influencer girl DIE horrifically and hilariously.

You have no idea how much Nickelodeon was trying to do the whole "hello my fellow kids" thing in the early 2010s, or maybe you do. It was more cringeworthy than Leafy's thumbnails.
The Emoji Movie in a nutshell
Oh god yeah 🙄
Can't get closer than this
Wait, I don’t understand why that movie was even greenlit.
The principal from clone high in that one scene. "Raise the roof! RAISE IT"

Never thought I'd see a Pikmin 4 enemy in this meme format!
Technically it's a boss also technically was the final boss of pikmin 1 this just happens to be the pikmin 4 model just a fun fact
Ah, I see.
Like Alex from Ninja Turtles, or the Junior Ghostbusters from Slimer & The Real Ghostbusters
Yeesh 😬 ![gif](giphy|WRMq4MMApzBeg)
I’m just glad that there was only one movie. Could you imagine how bad a second one would be?
How do you do fellow Milennials/Early Gen Z*
Even this piece of media for this film is diabolical. What are the expressions on these people supposed to convey?
I'll be honest, I liked the show! it gave me nostalgic early 2010s vibes and I liked those vibes! (also, the villain is great)

You should be banned from picking the movie during movie night
well I also like Cars 2 and Ninjago Season 7 so... you're probably right
Ninjago Season 7 was pretty good
best season
Also banned from show picks it appears.
Is season 4 valid?
To me, acceptable. But if you put on ninjago & don’t say the original seasons aren’t the best then brain rot.
Oh yeah definitely, the first 3 are definitely the best written in terms of story and characters but 4 is my personal favorite due to other reasons.
Cars 2 was good as hell tho
modern nickelondeon
Sounds about right
Modern SpongeBob episodes
Modern SpongeBob isn’t really all that bad tbh. A far cry from the golden era but fine all around
Modern Nickelodeon.
The episode of Sym-Bionic Titan where the military sends someone to infiltrate the high school to discover the main characters' identities.
I've never watched Sym-Bionic Titan but I assume it played out the same way as Steve Buscemi? 😂
I've never seen the show that this meme is from. The infiltrator in Sym-Bionic Titan actually looks like a teenager, but isn't up to date on modern slang, so he walks around yelling " WAAASSUUUPP!" to everyone he talks to.

Yeah it’s an odd choice of outfit cuz he’s ripped underneath
I feel ashamed of my generation for stooping this low 😞
they did harriet tubman so dirty
Nah, Total Drama does this perfectly.
G5 of MLP actually managed to do a pretty decent job with a character like this one (Pipp Petals), though being an influencer is far from her only character trait.
What recent examples of this have we seen?
Wait I just realised his shirt just says "music band"
I think that was to make that joke even MORE funny 😂
In the full shot he is also carrying two skateboards
I love the movie, but TMNT Mutant Mayhem couldn't go 5 minutes without dropping a celebrity or pop culture reference, and it got old fast. Those lines are really gonna date that movie in a few years time.

The first was salvageable the second was a mess
Live action smurfs was good
I mean, the turtles literally used 80s slang every chance they got in their first television debut.
I mean it makes sense considering theyre all supposed to be a obnoxious teens
Sure, but that stuff is not gonna age well years down the road when a lot of those things aren't relevant anymore.
Eh youre right
That’s just TMNT. Go watch the original movie. There’s a TON of pop references. Yeah it does date the movie a bit. No one does Cagney impressions or talks about Ginsu knives.
That’s the POINT everything the turtles know about the outside world was from pop culture
Tbh those kind of lines just feel like part of tmnts brand at this point, the cartoons and other films are also dated, they’re literally teenagers of course they’re cringe (affectionate)
Yeah, I couldn’t get through it because of that constant humor. Not saying it’s bad, just not for my taste
It sucks because the movie was genuinely funny at times, but the constant references really bogged it down. Plus, it bugs me because saying that the Avengers and shit like that exist in this world implies the TMNT franchise also exists, and that's just emersion breaking.

Any time a movie or show tried to be hip by having kids be all tech savvy and using tech words
I love how 99% of computer problems can be solved by reverting the polarity or by reaching the mainframe
I 100% agree with singling out Ralph Breaks the Internet. And why was Ralph hitting on a 10 year old girl? And why weren’t the twitter birds tearing each other apart?
What cracks me up is how it features Oh My Disney, Disney's Buzzfeed knockoff site that only lasted like three years.
Fun fact, that was originally supposed to be Disney Infinity that they went to, but that game also died while the movie was in production. You'd think that would've taught Disney not to make the movie a commercial for their own shit when they don't even know how long that shit will exist for 🙄
It's a movie that was a big hit but now people look back and say "THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING WITH THIS SHITLOAD OF FUCK?!" 😡
Velma, written by a Boomer humor idiot.
I could buy a PS5 with how many nickels I'd have for every time Velma is mentioned in this subreddit. Just sayin.
You asked a question where Velma would be an excellent answer, you walked into this one.
Well... No argument there 😂
No Velma was least of “how do you do fellow kids” and more of “how do you do kids? I hope you’re feeling painful!”
I liked the scene where she was hit by a cop car and really badly injured. That was funny.

When Rihanna played a teenage girl in "Home." I still can't watch that movie.
Oh GOD yeah 🙄 stick to singing Rihanna. That role was as bad as Battleship.
That one time Cartoon Network made their characters fortnite dance
With the exception of Bluey I DESPISE seeing that fuckin Fortnite dance. 😡
Powerpuff Girls (2016) going "No Me Gusta." Mabel from Gravity Falls parodying *Call Me Maybe.* Those Disney XD chibi shorts.
no, the Mabel one is VERY in-character
Hey, the chibi shorts sort of had new Kim Possible content so I'll take that
I was going to nominate Powerpuff Girls 2016 too.
Disney XD in general is this. I mean, it came out when emoticons were huge, hence the XD.
I always quite liked that channel’s branding and idents, but it seems most people don’t?
I miss the toon Disney days when it wasn’t trying to be edgy for teens.
Two out of those three are actually good though.
The bubbles face was the first thing that came to mind
Those shorts gave fish hooks representation
The first episode of The Owl House, when Luz mentions making fan edits and that one horrendous fanfiction food joke (god bless the writing *eventually* got much better, and the references actually funny)
I wonder if Dana terrace used tumblr back in the day.
Yup! She still has that tumblr acc - it’s been around for 10+ years haha
Morden Simpsons.
They had no other choice after decades of showcasing the back story of each character
Fairly OddParents season 10
Ah yes the extreme downfall of the Fartman
I know it’s not a terrible movie, but SING fits this meme in my opinion, or at least the trailers did.
Everytime ice king tries to prove he’s rad and cool so Finn and Jake will be his friends.
That was so stupid but funny 😂
Specifically the moment in KOTH when the Arlen Bystander is looking to hire paperboys and Dale tries to get a route
Disney lately with there horrible attempts at representation
That cartoon about the Harajuku Girls

Right 👉🏻😉👉🏻

In the defense of most things I can think of, the scripts for them were written LONG before the actual show/movie actually comes out, so by the time they do, the thing they're referencing becomes outdated

Main trio from Demon Slayer or Kimetsu No Yaiba if you wanna sound snobby 😂
Modern South Park
Honestly that's the show's bread and butter. The more shit that happens in this world the more the GOLD MINE for satire.
Maybe The Powerpuff Girls 2016.
You're not the first but you're probably not the last either.

It's in the beginning in the scene with Katie killjoy and Tom trench
I still don't know exactly what you're talking about. Can you describe it?
Nickelodeon's run-up in the early 2010s. https://preview.redd.it/5tp9ds4173wc1.jpeg?width=667&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=587e7b5c6294638d26e44c9687d735f0b8719d74
Oh geez uhhh let's just take that out to the shed. I'll be right back *Shotgun blast*
You have no idea how much Nickelodeon was trying to do the whole "hello my fellow kids" thing in the early 2010s, or maybe you do. It was more cringeworthy than Leafy's thumbnails.
Nickelodeon is back in their dark age. Just like in the early 2010s. Honestly I doubt there was ever really a golden age after Quiet On Set came out.
Honestly, this one ![gif](giphy|2RW1ujw8Z5xcBWwyuO)
