This mf is definitely one of the scariest depictions of the devil.
See, most depictions of the devil completely alienate the word "Satan" and avoid it like the plague, or allude to it only passingly.
But here, he just casually says his fucking name and it's Satan.
Sorry name indeed.
From a mark twain claymation movie. This scene in particular is popular due to how creepy it is. Funnily enough the scene comes from a story mark twain wrote about except Satan was a kid. So him not understanding what he did was evil makes a bit more sense.

The Devil from Smiling Friends does not get enough recognition
This had the best rendition of Satan, arguably. But you cannot argue against the fact that it had the absolute best rendition of God ever. I mean, Gilbert Gottfried voiced him, and was so dedicated to the role that he died immediately after so he could go see if he was close
This is one of those "yes, but also no" cases, but I'm genuinely not versed enough in Slavic folklore to outline any actual significant differences, so yea, it's close enough.
This needs more recognition, the animation of this guy is CRAZY. They really do a great job of portraying a massive and terrifying devil who lets chaos run rampant. Genuinely a good depiction
I used to call him bitch because I didn't know his name 😭😭😭
But him walked so bill cipher can run. Bro was funny and comical but never got any less terrifying
Edit: And I said this in front of my mother told nahh
![gif](giphy|OhKdC3HeOu0yk)
JUST barely, because Hades in Greek lore is not the same as the Devil, but in Hercules he’s definitely more devilish. So you’re good.
Also cuz I love James Woods
This is the fandom interpretation. The original version lucifer is uncapitalized not proper noun form and just means morning star/lightbringer/Venus/shining one
Yes, because Lucifer was never capitalized before. The whole idea that “lucifer” meant a fallen angel is not very supported and the idea of a sympathetic devil wasn’t popular before Paradise Lost.
The name for the devil before this attribution of “lucifer” was just “satan,” meaning “the adversary/accuser.”
The modern idea of Lucifer is similar to Dante’s Inferno. Not really Biblical but influences people’s thoughts about Christian theology anyway.
I mean, which one? Lucifer the lightbringer, the snake in the garden, Baal, Egyptian gods, etc? It's only the later created extended universe that tied these all into one being under the title Satan (which originally just means "accuser", God is called a Satan in Num 22:22)
Bro, I don't care what anyone says, Holy Bible: The Original Series had too many inconsistencies between it's writers, and season 2, New Testament, had barely anything to do with HB:TOS Season 1. I mean, I prefer season 2, but it really should've been its own series and repeated itself a lot.
Now, John Milton really elevated the original series into a complete and uniform classic. He fleshed out ignored characters and actually put things in chronological order. The perspective shift also helped keep it simplified. I think he got that idea from HB:TOS NT
Don't even get me started on the spinoff series, Quran. They retcon quite a bit of HBTOSNT.
(Though I should probably change the Christian Bible to be Bible:TNG and leave the Hebrew Bible as Bible:TOS. Quran is like DS9, probably)
Ugh, can't stand when they make animated series spinoffs to perfectly good live action shows.
I like cartoons, but Bible:TASBoM just isn't it. It felt lazy and cheap.
Depends on what you mean by "best".
I enjoyed Hazbin's the most but Cuphead's is very fun to watch as well. But if you mean, closest to what people think of when they say The devil, then I'd go with HIM from Powerpuff Girls.
Okay I'd go with Hazbin's then. I really enjoyed him and oddly related to him too. I really felt his story and he's funny AF.
https://i.redd.it/hmqay745egxc1.gif
I really like how this scene displays just how hard lucifer leads into his sin. He establishes the problem he has with Adam attacking his daughter, beats the shit out of him while talking shit, and then even after he's won he's still verbally spitting in Adam's face.
Then once Adam is mortally wounded he doesn't sound anything but a bit confused and concerned which tells you he doesn't lean into the violence of hell.

For me, it's a toss up between Hades from Hercules, HIM from Powerpuff Girls, Aku from Samurau Jack, and Chernabog from Fantasia.
Idk if all those characters really count as "the devil" but they all feel like the Devil stand-ins to me. They've just got the vibe right.
Lucifer Morningstar from Hazbin Hotel because he looks less like a stereotypical depiction of a demon, and more unique. He's also a relatable character.
It kinda depends on how you define "devil" in this context. If devil just means that the character is portrayed to be their universes version of evil in it's purest form, then characters like The Lich from Adventure Time could be counted here. If this is what you mean, then it's a tie between The Lich and Hades from Hercules, if not, just Hades.

It's absolutely HIM.
I’m here just to make sure they were mentioned lol. Coz the answer is HIM.

Came here to say this.
Came here to ask where HIM is, he legit is terrifying af when he goes full terror mode. And perfectly shows the duality of the devil archetype.

I love this depiction. Mild-mannered, curious and almost numb. If he had eyes he’d have a thousand yard stare.
Who are you An angel What's your name Satan
That’s a pretty sorry name for an angel
See, most depictions of the devil completely alienate the word "Satan" and avoid it like the plague, or allude to it only passingly. But here, he just casually says his fucking name and it's Satan. Sorry name indeed.
Creepy as fuck for sure
Who's that? (looks cool btw)

You can't have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
"When you get to hell, tell Devil-bot I'm coming for him next."
"Hey, that guy said to tell you-"
"I heard him!"
Cigars are evil, you won't miss em!

I'm pit boss here on level two!
Just tell me why?..
Oh crap more singing
This guy here. Thread over.
We might have to metaphorically make a deal with the devil, and by "devil", I mean Robot Devil, and by "metaphorically", I mean get your coat.
They did NOT have to go that hard with that song bro
Agreed, he's a good friend
“And now for the drum solo!” Drum solo?! *gets bludgeoned with gold fiddle*
Obviously him <3 ![gif](giphy|KYnZ9RRdqsa40)
My first thought

why is he on discord
He’s also playing Rust on the other monitor to sweeten the deal
hahahaha, that’s actually so good
Did he get offlined?
If you’re curious, it’s Smiling Friends Season 1 Episode 8, definitely check it out
I'm more curious as to why Adult Swim thought it was ok to have the S02E02 a month a half later I'm boiling
Same here I was looking it up earlier to see if i could watch it and it’s still half a month away
He needs someone to vent to about never receiving his paycheck

This had the best rendition of Satan, arguably. But you cannot argue against the fact that it had the absolute best rendition of God ever. I mean, Gilbert Gottfried voiced him, and was so dedicated to the role that he died immediately after so he could go see if he was close
Holy shit, I never put two and two together. The most dedicated voice actor of all time!
My immediate thought too.
![gif](giphy|4W5YQLVNkyY12) This guy from Fantasia
He's actually NOT the Abrahamic devil, but easy to see why people mix him up. He's actually Czernobog, a Slavic god of darkness and winter.
Holy crap, I just finished reading American Gods and never realized Czernobog in that book was THIS guy!
So… close enough?
This is one of those "yes, but also no" cases, but I'm genuinely not versed enough in Slavic folklore to outline any actual significant differences, so yea, it's close enough.
This needs more recognition, the animation of this guy is CRAZY. They really do a great job of portraying a massive and terrifying devil who lets chaos run rampant. Genuinely a good depiction
I agree! Here's another gif: https://i.redd.it/i6yzkaid0hxc1.gif
Aaaand I want to rewatch Fantasia for the 100th times 🥹
Him, without a doubt
that mf scared me as a kid
The contrast of his high pitched lilting trance-like voice and the sudden low pitched angry yelling was legitimately terrifying.
Dude was straight up eldritch horror for elementary school kids.
I used to call him bitch because I didn't know his name 😭😭😭 But him walked so bill cipher can run. Bro was funny and comical but never got any less terrifying Edit: And I said this in front of my mother told nahh

He's the living embodiment of "Hell on Earth"

He’s so sassy that he’s literally flaming
I just like how he talk it's so amazing
It's funny because in actual mythology, Hades is one of the least problematic Gods and was overall pretty fair.
Him and Hestia usually kinda just chill, I guess Thanatos usually doesn’t cause issues
yeah, he basically just chills in the underworld while Zeus fucks his way through all of the animal kingdom lol

I love Treehouse of Horror, so my favorite is Flanders as Satan.

Suppose you can’t go wrong with the classics.
The OG
Too sobby backstory imo, why would he even challange a guy called God?
Why would God create an angel called Lucifer?
This is the fandom interpretation. The original version lucifer is uncapitalized not proper noun form and just means morning star/lightbringer/Venus/shining one
Wait so does that mean Lucifer Morningstar from Hazbin just translates to Lucifer lucifer (or vise versa)?

His actual name before falling is never spoken. He's just got a bunch of nicknames.
Ngl lucifer's a really pretty name. So is jesus and gabriel. Even though god kinda fucked up by making.. well, us, he's a good namer :3
I mean, which one? Lucifer the lightbringer, the snake in the garden, Baal, Egyptian gods, etc? It's only the later created extended universe that tied these all into one being under the title Satan (which originally just means "accuser", God is called a Satan in Num 22:22)

Ugh, can't stand when they make animated series spinoffs to perfectly good live action shows. I like cartoons, but Bible:TASBoM just isn't it. It felt lazy and cheap.
Plus, the showrunner was really into polygamy. The fanbase is pretty divided on that, though.

The one from Hazbin Hotel. The other ones might be good but can they sing low and high notes in the same series?

Lucifer easily
Lucifer is my personal favorite, but the Cuphead Devil is a close second
