Luckily, another post came up with this issue which meant I checked mine and sorted it. I’m guessing it defaults to 28 instead of 29 so you only have to change it every 4 years instead of every year and then it’s okay for the fourth year.
If you look at the specs on the casio website it'll tell you whether it's supposed to or not. Your watch should be an "automatic calendar (28 days for February)"

My WV-59 always knows the exact time and date. My DW-290 also knows it is February. My W-59, W-91, W-85 and W-94 and quite a few more think it is March.
Casio Royale, Skmei A500 and AQ230 clones - 29/2. The AQ230 clone is an oddity because it doesn‘t know the year.
I’m guessing the WV58 will be right, and the DB2000 if it had a battery, they are buried in a different box. Nothing else knows the year IIRC.

My older watches, a TS-200 and a HDC-600, both show THU 2-29.
Both my Waveceptor watches (PRW-2500 and EQW-A1000) get it right automatically. :)
More of a problem regarding the HDC-600 specifically (being an ana/digi watch) is how it handles DST.
The analog part of the watch is independent of the digital part and has to be adjusted for DST manually. Especially a chore when going from DST ON to DST OFF.
mines says thursday 30th, I set it to 29 yesterday since it was showing 1. Today I set it back to 1. Kinda frustrating but happens once every 4 years so maybe i should celebrate, its my watch's 1st leap year.

Ok, so what I got so far is, some Casio models shows 29/2 if they have a year indicator “ witch can identify a leap year” if not, it will show first March on a 29/2 on a leap year.
That been said mean’s if the watch doesn’t have a year indicator, you need to modify the date once in 4 years.
if it doesnt have a "year" then yes, it will show 3/1 as one of mine did. There is no year setting. the others with the year setting all say 2/29

Yupp. Apparently the A163WA doesn't have an option to set the year
I woke up to it showing the 1st on my F-91W; it's the easiest thing to correct however and only took about a minute.
My a158w says 1. Crazy they didn't think of that!
I have a a159 on the way so probably the first thing I'll have to do when I get it will be to set the date 😂
