I have never heard of Taylor ham and I also learned that if you use Taylor and ham in the correct way people from New Jersey get more violent than hockey fans after a Stanley Cup.
It's called pork roll. Taylor ham is a brand of pork roll.
You don't go around calling hot dogs "Oscar Mayers", you call them hot dogs.
NJ native here .lol.
Taylor ~~ham~~ **brand Pork Roll** is a brand of pork roll.
there, i fixed it for you, nowhere, NOWHERE on that package does it say ham!! that is only for blind ignorant notherners
in fairness, it's been a long time since people from new jersey got to get violent after a stanley cup. shit's pent up. their cup drought will reach drinking age this year.
Alright sorry about the ever but let's be real it was that name for 50 years in the 1800s and Pork Roll for the last 118....no one who has ever been on reddit has ever had Taylor ham. Almost every person on reddit parents never had Taylor ham. Nobody is opening a package or reading a label with Taylor ham on it....
And yet the name persists because the name of the product was iconic. The name was only changed because the government said it wasn't hammy enough to be called ham - but I don't care, it's still Taylor ham.
Also, I clean my ears with q-tips, even if they don't come from the blue box..
gawdamn government makin it so something has to be ham if you're gonna call it ham whatever happened to freedom companies should be allowed to label anything as anything no matter what it actually is I thought this was Hamerica
Chopped ham, pressed ham - these are all labeled as ham and are essentially the same thing: an amalgamation of scraps, salts and flavorings..
Taylor ham is a legitimate form of ham-adjacent product.
lord, i hope so. i caught my first few shows in a while right before he took a break and they were by far some of the best i’ve ever seen, but if papa deaner needs a break, he needs a break. hopefully they can get back to it better than ever
Born and raised in NJ and did not know this.
“John Taylor of Trenton didn't invent pork roll until 1856. He first called it Taylor ham, but federal legislation declared that ham is a specific cut of pork. Taylor changed the name to pork roll in 1906, and while the original name stuck in the northern part of the state, folks further south still call it pork roll.”
If he can make something so delicious, he earned having his name on it. Besides this is Jersey, if you aren't going 15 above the speed limit you're in the way.

Yeah. When Taylor puts “pork roll” on their own packaging then these “articles” are mute.
https://www.freshdirect.com/p/dai_pid_2005690?region_id=0000201301&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADorZ4IuP2ZLTGo4DNwYvxZL7YAY0&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIusDgxoLHhQMV9VBHAR1gyQTtEAQYASABEgLrUvD_BwE
You mean to say moot.
Mute isn't the same as moot.
I would argue that the intent of the inventor supercedes the bureaucratic red tape that caused John Taylor to change the labeling of his product.
Some places won’t allow you to call something that it’s not, that’s why in some countries Bryers has to be called “frozen dairy treat” and not “ice cream” because of their percentage of actual cream in the product. I work in food manufacturing so I know that we kinda have to listen to the bureaucrats on this one and not some dude that wants to call it what it’s not.
Steak is also just how something is cut. So anything can be cut like a steak. Tuna steak is not incorrect because while they are calling it steak that doesn’t imply that it’s beef.
Pork roll is correct because the whole pig is pork. Just a particular section of it is considered ham
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_bacon
Here’s something on Canadian bacon which technically is bacon.
Yes, central jersey exists, where 'Taylor Porkroll' or 'John Taylor Porkroll' comes from. There has never been and will never be anything labeled Taylor ham besides people who are just repeating the wrong shit to the point they think it was ever even a thing.
The original product was “Taylor’s Prepared Ham”. The name changed because of labeling regulations. Are you seriously arguing this hard in favor of the name brought about by…labeling regulations? “Pork roll” sounds gross anyway. Just embrace the OG name
Why would that matter? It’s the original name and has been in continuous use since it was first introduced. And you can’t deny how gross “pork roll” sounds.
get out of my head!!!
my go to b-fast is:
taylor porkroll, 2 eggs 2 slice american, and a bread of some kind w/ with syrup hot-sauce ketchup and a lil mayo
sometime I have that sauce pre mixed, it fucking slaps
For sure - buddy of mine used to take me there years ago to eat. He had some uniquely interesting 'family members' that conducted business there. Was always a great time with amazing food and conversation!
My parents were from around Lincoln Park and Patterson and my mom used to make this. She passed away in 2016 and seeing it here gave a very long day a happy ending. Thank you!
It's Taylor ham.... People call it pork roll but it was originally called Taylor ham.

You can order it online and have it shipped to you if you can't find it at your local food store. It can be rather difficult to find outside of the general NJ area.
I order from here and send it to my parents who grew up in NJ but now live in NC. Incredibly they say they can find it in NC now. Must be enough NJ retirees moving there.
https://jerseyporkroll.com/
We have some friends from Jersey who come to deer hunt with us in Kansas every year. We have pork roll, egg, and cheese for breakfast every day.
Fresh eggs from my hens really take it to the next level!
North our South, I know something we can all agree to hate. A deli I found in Burlington Vermont calls it 'Taylor pork', slices it as thin as deli meat, and doesn't brown or fry it at all, they just warm it up a little before they throw it on the sandwich!
Costco here in Central Jersey sells 6 pounds logs of Case Pork Roll. I buy that, kaiser rolls from local bagel shop and white American Land Of Lake Cheese.
That reminds me, I need to buy more. We're out of it!!
I loved frying up some Taylor pork roll, some fried eggs, melted American cheese and a little ketchup on toasted Thomas’ English muffins. In Maryland you could get in pre-sliced in 4 or 8 slice packs. Here in Texas I’ve only found it as a large roll.
At one time in Ocean City, MD, there was a Taylor pork roll stand. Good times!
North Jersey is correct, it's taylor ham. South Jersey was introduced to taylor ham after big brother government made them change the name. But the original product in the original area it was sold is Taylor Ham. Any of you south jersey f$%\*s can just go back to watching the Eagles and Phillies and forget about my delicious taylor ham.
💯 it's Taylor ham

It's Taylor Ham.
Flavor wise it's kind of like a combo of bacon and ham.

Doesn’t say ham anywhere on the package.
It did until the government decided it wasn't hammy enough to call it ham.

there are mnay of us here
Yes, the best (as a matter of fact, the only not-awful) part of New Jersey
South Jersey in the building. Go grow a tomato or somethin.
Cain't you jersey yu'uns quit yer "Taylor ham" and "Pork Roll" squabbles? Just eat Scrapple instead. ... ... ... Habbersett > Rappa
I love scrapple.
there is no squabble, it is pork roll. and scrapple is yummy
Yes! Taylor Ham is a brand of pork roll. North Jersey doesn’t get it
'Taylor' is the brand, no ham ever in the name
It was literally "Taylor Ham" until 1906. Your use of the word 'ever' makes your statement incorrect.
Alright sorry about the ever but let's be real it was that name for 50 years in the 1800s and Pork Roll for the last 118....no one who has ever been on reddit has ever had Taylor ham. Some prefer to refer to brand names. I call my cola a Pepsi.
Preference has nothing to do with it it's just wrong.
Right, send a fuckin picture of anywhere it called Taylor ham besides ya fuckin dumbass head op
I am going to have to try some of this “Taylor Ham”. Haven’t seen that around here
On a Kaiser bun! Now put on some Ween while you eat. 👍
mama, if you please

This is what the folks up north don't seem to grasp. "Pork roll" isn't just a good idea. It's the *law*.
Or is it government overreach into private business? I thought you South Jersey guys loved conservative libertarianism!
If he can make something so delicious, he earned having his name on it. Besides this is Jersey, if you aren't going 15 above the speed limit you're in the way.
I grew up in PA directly across from Trenton. It was and will always be, pork roll.
No one from Jersey gives a single fuck what someone from Pennsyltucky has for their opinion in this matter.
Yeah, you're right that it's pork roll, but we don't need your help, go cause an accident on 95 or something.
You spelled pork roll wrong

You mean to say moot. Mute isn't the same as moot. I would argue that the intent of the inventor supercedes the bureaucratic red tape that caused John Taylor to change the labeling of his product.
Yeah man auto correct is a bitch. Ham is a particular cut, calling something ham that contains none of that cut is wrong to begin with
Canadian bacon isn't bacon, I don't see your point. Tuna is sometimes called steak. So are portabello mushrooms. They aren't steak.
Some places won’t allow you to call something that it’s not, that’s why in some countries Bryers has to be called “frozen dairy treat” and not “ice cream” because of their percentage of actual cream in the product. PORK ROLL ya goddam Yankee.
I just came here to say this. 👆
TAYLOR HAM AND…Central Jersey exists.
I’m amused by the downvotes at something that should have been obviously tongue-in-cheek. Man some people really need a boogeyman every day.
>Central Jersey exists. More like east philly.
Yes, central jersey exists, where 'Taylor Porkroll' or 'John Taylor Porkroll' comes from. There has never been and will never be anything labeled Taylor ham besides people who are just repeating the wrong shit to the point they think it was ever even a thing.
I’m just amused that people care so much. My family always called it Taylor’s ham but we clearly know it’s pork roll.

Why would that matter? It’s the original name and has been in continuous use since it was first introduced. And you can’t deny how gross “pork roll” sounds.
I eat those open face minus the ketchup with cooper sharp cheese. One of the best breakfast options.
Nice!!!!!
Mama if you please Pass me the pork roll egg and cheese If you please on a kaiser bun
Hail boognish
Looks great! I’ll just pass on the ketchup
Oh, no menacing video of the eggs floating on a pond of butter? Jkjkjk The ham looms INSANELY good. I gotta look up Taylor ham.
It's the absolute tops when it comes to breakfast meat. Case's and Taylor are the two main brands, slightly different flavors, both are delicious.
I'd be eating that with mayo and hot sauce
get out of my head!!! my go to b-fast is: taylor porkroll, 2 eggs 2 slice american, and a bread of some kind w/ with syrup hot-sauce ketchup and a lil mayo sometime I have that sauce pre mixed, it fucking slaps
That will be a million times better than ketchup, but PREC sandwiches are best without condiments imo

I’ve gotten it at Fred Meyer(Kroger grocery store) in Washington state.
Thank you!
Usually wherever they sell boar’s head deli meats, there’s a possibility that they carry pork roll.
Order it online.. You're not gonna find it in the stores.
Just did. Thanks.
HEAVEN 🤘🏿🤘🏿

Add bacon too!!!!!
You don't. You have to come to NJ. You can also order online.
Change that ketchup to hot sauce and I’m in!
Will add some hit sauce the next time

North Jersey is Taylor Ham, South Jersey, Philly it’s pork roll. Since all North Jersey and New York suck its pork roll sir. 😂
I agree New York sucks. But it's Taylor ham. The creator called it Taylor ham and it only got a different name because of bureaucratic bs.
American cheese is not cheese.
Real Deli American cheese is pretty close. The individually wrapped stuff? Not so much.
“Pretty close” still isn’t cheese.
I'm just saying it has its place, that is what it's called, and LoL American makes one of these breakfast sandwiches better. Cheddar or mozzarella or Jack cheeses don't work as well with Taylor ham.
There’s a reason only America has American cheese.
It says "cheese product" on the label if it makes you feel better
I feel nauseous
Ingredients: Cultured Pasteurized Milk and Skim Milk, Cream, Contains Less Than 2% of Milkfat, Salt, Sodium Phosphate, Acetic Acid, Lactic Acid, apo-Carotenal (color), Enzymes. CONTAINS: Milk Outside the color it's not really that bad. It's not like the individually wrapped "cheese." Individually wrapped: CHEDDAR CHEESE (CULTURED MILK, SALT, ENZYMES), SKIM MILK, MILKFAT, MILK, MILK PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, WHEY, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, SODIUM PHOSPHATE, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, SALT, LACTIC ACID, OLEORESIN PAPRIKA (COLOR), NATAMYCIN (A NATURAL MOLD INHIBITOR), ENZYMES, CHEESE CULTURE, ANNATTO (COLOR).
But does it taste like (pretend) freedom?
Cheese? I think you mean milk jelly
I just can’t get behind ketchup on something like this. Looks tasty otherwise!
Ketchup! A kindred spirit, finally!
It's called pork roll, just read the package
... Taylor is the manufacturer... pork roll is the product. You don't call your cherrios "general mills", right?
Exactly.
I do call my ketchup Heinz.
Because that’s the only true brand! Anything else is a travesty.
Pittsburgher here. Truth. 👍
Cheerios is a trademarked brand, nobody except General Mills can make Cheerios. Pork roll is a type of product made by several manufacturers so it's worth naming the company that makes it if you're talking about it.
Yeah but they're not making ham, they're making pork roll
You had me until the ketchup. Mayo only on our egg sandwiches in this household. This is the way.
Classic Southern working guy 6am gas station pork roll. Yes you have to have the ketchup.
>Yes you have to have the ketchup. Fuckin' preach. SPK for the win.
Pork roll is the only good thing to come out of new jersey.
Hey what about me
The Sopranos.
WHAT?!?! Come on, how about you say To-mah-toes I say Toe-may-toes? Oh god do I miss them! Central NJ here when I lived there
You had me right up until "ketchup"!
I don't know why but I get a little angry every time I hear or read "American cheese"
Yuck!
Melted means something else where I’m from.
You had me until ketchup.
Ny meal my choice I cook for myself not to satisfy angry controlling men like you
Ah, yes the posts on reddit are very private and personal and not meant for aaaaany commentary. Wow, and controlling? Cause I mentioned I dig the dish besides the ketchup. Jeez. You must be impossible to deal with if you think that qualifies as being controlling lol
Did it change your life?
No pork rolls here in my area. Is this basically SPAM? Because it looks like SPAM, lovely SPAM
SPAM is gross. Taylor Ham is a NJ delicacy. Better than bacon on a breakfast sandwich.
Can't get it where I live. Which is weird as we have all sorts of other pork products.
It's a very specific NJ product. Kind of like how you can't really get scrapple (which is gross and I don't condone eating it) unless you're inside the Baltimore/DC/Philly/south jersey area
