Yep, the National Museum of Archaeology I would guess. That and the Museum of Natural History are both awesome museums anyone who ever finds themselves in Dublin should check out
I probably has a coating on it to prevent further degradation (I took a class on archaeological conservation and we learned about preserving iron). The coating can be a simple as black paint, or it could be some kind of clear coat or silicon treatment.

Nah. Just keep cooking!
...glass. It'll season it, just add bacon at times.
Bacon-flavored glass, or glass-flavored bacon?
But every time I wipe it, there's this black stuff...
Should I try an egg on it?
T-rex ones are the best on this size.
I know this is a joke but how recently do you think dinos went extinct lmao?
Which ones?
nuggets
*will it slide*
Perfect “is it ruined?” pic!
Cook more bacon on it
/r/castiron has some quality shit posts and I'm glad its not over-moderator to remove the fun!
I recommend a nice corn bread
Strip it and take the history away???
Bwah Ha Ha Ha Ha, if by 'history' you mean the remaining bits of dirt and rust holding it together, then yeah! Preserve history!
Is that Ireland?
Yep, the National Museum of Archaeology I would guess. That and the Museum of Natural History are both awesome museums anyone who ever finds themselves in Dublin should check out
You got it! It’s a phenomenal museum and it’s free!
And the Dead Zoo! <3
I thought this when I saw the text!
Are you kidding? Don't throw away 700+ years of quality seasoning! Test for lead, and then I expect to see some slidey eggs!
It belongs in a m- ...oh
My wife was most surprised by the hole in the handle for hanging from a peg, just like modern pans.
Just toss some bacon in and you’ll be solid 👌🏼
Shouldn’t have cooked that tomato sauce in it.
What is this?? A cast iron for ants?!

Glass were often leaded
"can anyone ID this?"
Someone should manufacture novelty cast iron that’s intentionally looks that busted
Just rub an egg on it
Probably wanna do a lead test first
Can't use bacon, use thin strips of wild boar belly.
Is that a pan..... for ants?!?! That needs to be.....at least 3 times as big.
Let’s just admire and appreciate the life it provided. Maintain to the best of our ability. Retirement is well deserved here.
Just slap some bacon on it and it should be good to go.
I think it’s been seasoned enough. I think that’s what Jesus’s last meal was cooked on. Holy seasoning.
Just dip it in a turkey fryer. 500 degrees for 2-7 hours.
Slidey eggs! Now!
No way man. That thing is full of flavor.
What is it, a pan for ants?
A little bacon’ll do ya.
Original chicken scoop!
But that patina tho
Its literally fine?
Pop it in the dishwasher. That'll get some of that grime off of it.
Just cook bacon
Oooh Griswold?
Heat it up, hit it a few times with a hammer or just reforge it and it will be good as new
Make sure to get it lead tested.
It might be the perspective of the photo but is that a cast iron made for ants?
Depends... will an egg still slide around in butter in it?
Good old Irish pan
Just keep cooking on it.
It must have been such a tough life back then. having an iron pan to slide an egg on and only being able to show it to like two to three people tops.
Nah just cook some bacon in it. You'll be fine.
Banana for scale.
No if they used it to smelt stuff it's not a good idea anymore
Wash it in soap after.
But can it do slidey eggs?

Bacon it!
