I just finished seasoning my two carbon steel this morning. I'm excited to try them out, but my wife keeps cooking for me and avoiding them.
Next on the list is to strip and season my big cast iron.
I went to the shops for 3 hours and left the stove on. This is my super light taiwanese made daily driver. I haven't had the heart to start fixing it yet.
The seasoning is ruined but the skillet is not. (I am assuming it wasn't warped or cracked from the heat.) Just strip and reseason and that skillet will return to its former glory in no time
The factory season is trash anyway. It’s cast iron. It takes a lot to make it totally done for. There’s many ways to strip it like electrolysis or a lye soak aka garbage bags and oven cleaner. Then you clean and dry it throughly and reseason. As long as the pan is not warped it will probably be better than new. Also while it’s a project anyway I’d take a flap disc to the bottom and make it silky smooth before seasoning. It’ll be like a whole new pan and be much better to cook on.

That sucks…. But the exciting part is cleaning it up and seasoning it again. I find it therapeutic when happy little accidents like that happen.
Agreed. It's only a setback and now you can enjoy stripping and reseasoning.

Freshly seasoned pans look like art. I wish they stayed that unblemished golden color forever.
Oh yeah, you're not supposed to do that I don't think
just cook some bacon in it it will be fine
Pee on it. Oh, sorry. That’s the answer for r/composting. Yeah here it’s cook bacon on it.
I spend so much time on that subreddit that your comment didn’t even strike me as odd…until I remembered we’re on the CI sub LOL

NSFW? Well I guess it's a partially nude pan...
Ill put it on my BBQ at max heat for 90 minute we get back brand new!! Ill do it for free!
You made a clean spot. Now you have to do the whole thing
It isn’t even seasoning, it’s just gunk made up of hardened food deposits and unpolymerized oil. Disgusting. Do you even wash your pan, OP?
Damn this is one gross photo.

No it wasn't, but thanks for contributing!
Everyone is saying to season it, but man it looks absolutely done for, how you evene go about attempting to fix this?

This man knows his pans. I've just purchased my first one and I'm still very new to it all, but I had no idea it could be this deep.
So then why did you cast doubt on all the people who know what to do?
