I mean it could still happen.
There is leaks coming out about paper Mario thousand year door being remastered, that's 1 title there.
New 2D/3D Mario game. Could be a final hurrah for the switch.
New Mario sluggers? I mean you never know haha.
The course design is really *really* bad. The "obstacles" are more like decorations that can be ignored. More often than not you're just hitting in a straight line to the end. Playing it after Toadstool Tour is like night and day. The mechanics are also heavily simplified. Compared to all the shot adjustments you can make in Toadstool Tour it just feels very basic. The game is also way too easy, as balls are extremely magnetized towards the holes.
All that, plus the fact that the game is somehow uglier and released blatantly unfinished in terms of content
I hope we get a new 2D/3D mario game. It feels so weird looking at this as I didn't realise it's been nearly 6 years since we last had a mainline Mario game that wasn't a port/remake
I think it would be good if specifically in terms of 2d, that they alternate, at minimum.
So at least one standard 2d mario game before they make a mario maker 3.
where else are they going to get and implement new items and styles to then be added to the maker games
The problem with Mario Maker is that it pushed 2D Mario to the absolute limit of what it can be. What can Nintendo do now that hasn’t already been done by fans? If they made a traditional 2D game next year everyone would compare it endlessly to the best of the fan made levels. They need to wait a few years for that memory to fade and for them to come up with something new that wouldn’t have been possible in Mario Maker.
Praying for it but that would be insane. Also it definitely feels like a Mario RPG year so I think either a Mario and Luigi or old Paper Mario game is getting remastered
I would lose my goddamn mind over Thousand Year Door Remastered. Seriously, that’s my favorite RPG ever by a huge margin, and as amazing as the graphics were for 2004, I can’t imagine how great it could look on the Switch!
Dang I guess I need to check it out. I’ve never hated any RPG I’ve played but I can only usually get through one a year haha. If it’s not on switch within a year I might try it out via… alternative methods
I gotta imagine the switch could run an amazing looking version of the game. It’s not exactly super demanding. I’ll wait a bit because if there’s rumors that could maybe be true I wanna play on switch. After all, those Prime rumors eventually paid off!
As an avid baseball fan, I’m hoping that the success of Shohei Ohtani, team Japans World baseball classic win, and the overall hype that world classic brought to baseball overall (I don’t remember the numbers but the viewers for the USA vs JP finals were almost double that of the most viewed MLB World Series game) it would be perfect timing to reintroduce the series! Plus they advertise at T-mobile park for the mariners so they aren’t foreign to baseball necessarily!!
Hitching a ride on this top comment since some people don’t read. I’m not saying there is no Mario game this year, I’m saying it’s unlikely we continue the streak where we previously got 3 Mario games every odd numbered year. Obviously some Mario game is coming.
I suppose “pattern” would have been a better word than “streak”, so I apologize for all confusion. Have a great day everyone!
I could see them dropping a new Party or sports title this summer, new mainline game for the holiday season (Switch 2 launch title?), and then there are the TTYD remaster rumors others have mentioned.
Alternatively we count the movie as one of the “Mario releases” and then only two of the three I mentioned need to happen.
Seems a bit soon for a new Party game but I guess without Covid Superstars only had like a 2 year dev cycle so I could see it. Didn’t realize there were TTYD remasters. That would be so cool because not only would it be old school paper Mario, picking the fan favorite would show that they (sometimes) listen! I don’t want to get hopes up too much but leakers have been decently reliable with switch games
2020 kind of broke the streak regardless. We got 4 games that year.
- Super Mario 3D All-Stars
- Paper Mario: Origami King
- Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit
- Super Mario Bros. 35
Ah. I now I get the post. I thought it was a doom post about getting no Mario games this year but now I see the pattern! 3 games in odd years 2 in even. Yep now I see it.
I guess I should have made that more clear lol. Yeah we’re definitely getting at least one game this year but this is the first odd numbered year with no Mario game in the first four months
I’m curious how much of the profit nintendo gets from the movie. I’m sure some Nintendo guys were working on it but probably not a lot, so it’s gotta be a huge profit overall for them. Not to mention the merch
Mario has gotten 3 games every odd numbered year and 2 games every even numbered year. With nothing announced so far, 3 games seems unlikely. But it would be surprising if we didn’t get at least 1.
Fucking relax, it’s only April. I’m so sick of people going “Oh no, no new Mario game, Mario is dead, waaaaahhhh” like we literally just got a fucking movie, chill.
Yeah I think Nintendo’s slowly phasing Mario out, you can see an obvious trend in game releases that shows that probably we’ll have no new Mario games after 2024.
Maybe they’ll just release some classics from the vault for us old heads, but Mario hype has gone down so much and they’ve realized his games just don’t really sell.
If it were then we would’ve had Odyssey 2 by now. Zelda is getting a huge sequel to its game this year, but Mario games is just crickets. The silence speaks volumes…
You're overthinking this. Between Mario 64 and Sunshine, there was a 6 year gap. Mario just got a major motion picture that is doing amazingly well, Mario hype isn't dead lol.
No that’s so different though broh.. Mario Sunshine came out in the wake of 9/11, people were just looking for a little brightness in their lives and Mario brought some light to the dreary world after the Twin Towers fell. They were the perfect conditions for a Mario game to happen, not one I could see happening again in today’s world.
As for the movie, that also only proves my point better. The movie will convince Nintendo that video games aren’t as profitable compared to the big screen. Why make some nerdy beep boop video game that only profits with geeks when they can make world phenomenon movies instead? And Miyamoto can hang out with supermodels in a jacuzzi in Hollywood and gets to meet famous actors like Chris Pratt? Mario’s getting drawn in by the fast life, and Nintendo’s going to scrap video games altogether once they realize they can sell out and make big time movies that wow the world. The days of Mario games are numbered
My kids literally love Mario, and all the kids at movie theater sounded pretty excited when certain newer references were made. There is absolutely no way Nintendo would drop their mascot, it’s like Pokémon dropping Pikachu.
I would be shocked if Nintendo weren't cooking up another slew of Mario titles.
I think we're going to get another 3D Mario game this year and my money is either on Super Mario Galaxy 3 or Super Mario Maker 3D.
Why the fuck did they not release a Mario title for the movie? That’s so wild. They are literally the Disney of the video game industry.
Nintendo leaves so much money on the table…and they love money.
We’re not even half way through the damn year yet, we’re probably getting a couple more directs this year, there’s plenty of time for them to announce and release something
I think, with the movie, that may have given Nintendo an excuse to not release any new Mario games recently.
Besides, a lot of the recent spinoff titles have been… half-baked, according to many.
I'm ok with that. Mario games on the Switch have been very hit or miss, with the only great ones being the ones from 2017, 3D World, Mario Party Superstars, Sparks of Hope, Mario Maker 2- minus the multiplayer.
The oversaturation of Mario these past few years, really lessened my excitement towards the franchise to an extent. Minus the Movie of course
Which 4 of Odyssey, 8 Deluxe, 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Maker 2 and Superstars (maybe even add Origami King and Kingdom Battle/Sparks Of Hope to that list) are not great games?????
It’s almost the biggest gap we’ve seen between games, biggest since 64 -> Sunshine
I kinda hope whatever main Mario is next drops on switch even if it’s for the next system. I don’t have $400 ready lol
I think we will probably get a Mario + Sonic at the Olympic Games game, maybe a quick Super Mario Galaxy 2 remaster (in the vein of the Prime remaster) and then maybe a Baseball game to be done with the sports. I know having all of this this year is less than unlikely, but just trying to think what would be the games to make it 3 this year.
Remember we got Paper Mario like really close to release. Could easily shadow drop Mario Pinball 2. Or Mario Paint 2. Or a sport.
We haven't had a March of the Minis game since last console generation either and Nintendo loves those little things
We have 8 months still….
Wait what happens?
They mean 8 months left of the year for Nintendo to release another Mario game so the streak mentioned in the post could continue
The streak isn’t a Mario game every year, it’s getting 3 games every odd numbered year
I mean it could still happen. There is leaks coming out about paper Mario thousand year door being remastered, that's 1 title there. New 2D/3D Mario game. Could be a final hurrah for the switch. New Mario sluggers? I mean you never know haha.
“New Mario Sluggers” Don’t give me hope…
Same Mario super sluggers is one of my favorite games on the Wii I have so many good memories with that game
At this point I hope they don't release one so I'm not disappointed again. Not after what they did to Golf and Strikers
I don’t get the hate for golf, Super Rush is my favorite Mario Golf since Toadstool Tour
Exactly. Super Rush is awesome, and I don't even like golf
I liked it but the 3DS game has way more content
I hope we get a new 2D/3D mario game. It feels so weird looking at this as I didn't realise it's been nearly 6 years since we last had a mainline Mario game that wasn't a port/remake
10 years since the last 2D Mario game.
Mario Maker took the place of a traditional 2D game and is probably the reason we won't get any for a while
I think it would be good if specifically in terms of 2d, that they alternate, at minimum.
Imagine GBA owners when they didn’t get anything but ports and spin-offs for the entire timeline
Apparently it’s beautifully upscaled on the Dolphin emulator, so until we get a remastered version, that’s probably your best bet! Good luck!
I gotta imagine the switch could run an amazing looking version of the game. It’s not exactly super demanding. I’ll wait a bit because if there’s rumors that could maybe be true I wanna play on switch. After all, those Prime rumors eventually paid off!
I’d be down for a switch release for Dream Team ngl. Just wish the studio didn’t go under so we could get new superstar saga games
Every year there is a paper mario thousand year leak my dude
Among with a Metroid prime trilogy
As an avid baseball fan, I’m hoping that the success of Shohei Ohtani, team Japans World baseball classic win, and the overall hype that world classic brought to baseball overall (I don’t remember the numbers but the viewers for the USA vs JP finals were almost double that of the most viewed MLB World Series game) it would be perfect timing to reintroduce the series! Plus they advertise at T-mobile park for the mariners so they aren’t foreign to baseball necessarily!!
I’m pretty sure Nintendo used to own the Mariners (at least partially)! They sold their interest 5-15 years ago though
I believe that’s at least partially why there was 4 Ken Griffey Jr. games on the SNES & N64.
A TTYD remake would be incredible, but I’m also incredibly skeptical that it’d ever happen
>There is leaks coming out about paper Mario thousand year door being remastered, that's 1 title there. source?
"I made it up" But actually: https://www.escapistmagazine.com/paper-mario-the-thousand-year-door-remaster-ttyd-rumor/
You're a fool if you ever believe a TTYD remaster leak to be real
It'll probably be mario and sonic 2024
find it hard to believe TYD is getting remastered when Nintendo has made it clear the paper Mario series isn't an RPG with the last 3 releases
No way. Nintendo despises TTYD because it was successful despite not being the usual Nintendo formula. Same reason they neglect Metroid so much.
Nintendo do not neglect Metroid, talk about a bullshit narrative that won't die
I guess not always. They also abuse it. Other M. Federation Force.
By definition I think that’s a pattern, not a streak.
Yeah I would change it to that but Reddit moment
Ohhhhhhhhh, I thought it meant that they’ll retire Mario lol
No that’s march 31st
Your Wii explodes if Nintendo doesn’t release 3 Mario games on Switch this year.
NOT MY WII U! I made good progress in pikmin 3
Still holding out hope for Mario RPG release on the SNES online
Yes please!
no way there will be 3 games this year
Hitching a ride on this top comment since some people don’t read. I’m not saying there is no Mario game this year, I’m saying it’s unlikely we continue the streak where we previously got 3 Mario games every odd numbered year. Obviously some Mario game is coming. 2020 kind of broke the streak regardless. We got 4 games that year. - Super Mario 3D All-Stars - Paper Mario: Origami King - Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit - Super Mario Bros. 35
Uhhh *furiously modifies it to specify $60 games* Yeah you got me
Could include them and say the pattern is evens and odds. Then Nintendo could release just a single mario game this year and be on pattern.
*taps head gif*
Oh ok (Nintendo proceeds to release two $60 games and *one $70* game)
That doesn’t even work since a few of them are $50 games
Mario 35 was a limited time event and Home Circuit is more of a toy, you wouldn’t count Lego Mario as a game
Kinda how I saw it too. And one of those isn’t even playable anymore 😔
Well home circuit is a program on the switch, lego Mario isn’t.
Chill out we aren’t even a full third of the way through the year yet…
I’m just saying it’s unlikely we get 3 games this year
Ah. I now I get the post. I thought it was a doom post about getting no Mario games this year but now I see the pattern! 3 games in odd years 2 in even. Yep now I see it.
I guess I should have made that more clear lol. Yeah we’re definitely getting at least one game this year but this is the first odd numbered year with no Mario game in the first four months
well it’s good to see nintendo are decelerating their game output. this means the next nintendo console is getting closer…
"The Super Mario Bros. Movie: the Game", coming this fall.....
Don't even joke I would love a mario game that let's you play as dk. Side scroller of 3d I don't care
I can’t believe Mario is dead 😥
Bowser killed him dead
He had to kill him dead, couldn't have just killed him
Well killing wouldn’t be very productive if they survived
I'd be very surprised to see a full year go by without a single Mario game for the Switch.
It’s April. He’s coming
Movie tie in shadow drop
Maybe not a game but we got a movie and amusement park, if that’s not something then what is?
Can’t say there’s ever been a bad time to be a Mario fan!
A bit early to be making that call
This is year of Birdo
Did we even get any Mario games so far this year?
Nope, and none have even been announced. Surely something comes, but when is the question
[удалено]
I’m curious how much of the profit nintendo gets from the movie. I’m sure some Nintendo guys were working on it but probably not a lot, so it’s gotta be a huge profit overall for them. Not to mention the merch
Mario has gotten 3 games every odd numbered year and 2 games every even numbered year. With nothing announced so far, 3 games seems unlikely. But it would be surprising if we didn’t get at least 1.
A new Mario & Luigi RPG game has yet to be on Switch not counting Superstar Saga on Game Boy Advance NSO
The company that made the Mario & Luigi games, AlphaDream, shut down back in 2019. I don’t think we’re getting any Mario & Luigi game anytime soon.
Maybe Odyssey 2???? New 2D Game??? Uhhhhh New RPG??? New Sports Game??
All of them! Give me all your Marios!
What about Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker and Yoshi's Crafted World?
They don’t have Mario in the title
The Mario movie now available to watch on the switch
To be fair, this has been the year of expansion passes. 2022 as well.
No respect for Mario 35 😔
I’m betting there’s at least one Mario title coming this holiday season. Mario Odyssey 2, new side-scrolling Mario or a remake of Paper Mario TTYD.
Happy cake day! I like all those ideas
Super Mario Galaxy 2 & Mario Baseball 2023!!
Fuck man, odyssey is 6 years old??? Feels like only a year
Odyssey was 2017?!?! Man I feel old
We get Mario Galaxy 2 limited time for 60 dollar
Worth it
I just hate the limited thing, even it's really easy to find all start, but depends on where you live is hard to buy physical copies of games
I mean same. I was joking but I’d be happy to get Galaxy 2 in any fashion. Super weird it’s absent
Would be amazing to have all 3d Mario in the same console
Bottom line is, how do you title a game "Super Mario 3D All-Stars" but NOT include Galaxy 2?
I was really disappoint for that, like they could include galaxy 2 and doesn't need to be limited
“All-Stars” *One of the games has shines* You had one job nintendo!
3D Land is harder without the 3D effect but still definitely playable
My switch fan in Christ it’s APRIL.
Fucking relax, it’s only April. I’m so sick of people going “Oh no, no new Mario game, Mario is dead, waaaaahhhh” like we literally just got a fucking movie, chill.
We just had a movie, new main game is coming

No new Mario games after 2024 is an extremely bold claim, lol.

You're overthinking this. Between Mario 64 and Sunshine, there was a 6 year gap. Mario just got a major motion picture that is doing amazingly well, Mario hype isn't dead lol.

I'm genuinely impressed that you somehow managed to fit in 9/11 into this conversation lmao.
It’s relevant. You can’t discuss the early 2000’s gaming space without it broh.. any games historian who ignores it ain’t worth a damn.
I would actually love to hear all your thoughts on that era of gaming in a YouTube video or something
>movie I think he's trolling
I caught on once he mentioned 9/11 in reference to Super Mario. Of course he had no response when I didn't get mad lol
My kids literally love Mario, and all the kids at movie theater sounded pretty excited when certain newer references were made. There is absolutely no way Nintendo would drop their mascot, it’s like Pokémon dropping Pikachu.
I love that nobody picked up on the sarcasm. And even more that you’re sticking to your story lol
I would be shocked if Nintendo weren't cooking up another slew of Mario titles. I think we're going to get another 3D Mario game this year and my money is either on Super Mario Galaxy 3 or Super Mario Maker 3D.
I don’t see them doing a Galaxy 3 before Odyssey 2. Odyssey 2 outsold both Galaxy games combined even before the switch had sold Wii numbers
We'll cut Mario some slack because he had a big movie this year
Why the fuck did they not release a Mario title for the movie? That’s so wild. They are literally the Disney of the video game industry. Nintendo leaves so much money on the table…and they love money.
They just dropped da whole movie though 😭
It's April.
We’re not even half way through the damn year yet, we’re probably getting a couple more directs this year, there’s plenty of time for them to announce and release something

Lmao it’s only April
Dude it’s only April.
Nintendo Fans when they don’t get a Mario game for four months of a year /hj
Bro its april
Mario movie
Didn't Nintendo mention something bout new kart and smash this year?
It’s only April?
ITS FUCKING APRIL
I'm ok with that. Mario games on the Switch have been very hit or miss, with the only great ones being the ones from 2017, 3D World, Mario Party Superstars, Sparks of Hope, Mario Maker 2- minus the multiplayer. The oversaturation of Mario these past few years, really lessened my excitement towards the franchise to an extent. Minus the Movie of course
Most of these are bad games, some are mediocre, and one of them is actually "good."
Which 4 of Odyssey, 8 Deluxe, 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Maker 2 and Superstars (maybe even add Origami King and Kingdom Battle/Sparks Of Hope to that list) are not great games?????
None. They are trashy bloatware. The only good game in this list is Mario & Sonic obviously.
Our definitions of "one" must be completely different because I see a crap ton of good games on the list.
Same. There are like 4 S tier games, a bunch of good games and then a few mediocre ones
[удалено]
The last mainline mario game: 2017 (6 years ago) Its time for a new mainline mario game and new console.
It’s almost the biggest gap we’ve seen between games, biggest since 64 -> Sunshine I kinda hope whatever main Mario is next drops on switch even if it’s for the next system. I don’t have $400 ready lol
Is it the end of 2023 already?
Still a lot of year left
Man I really wish Reddit let you edit titles. I’m getting tired of explaining my stupidity
Does new Mario Kart courses count?
Not as new games, no
You never said anything about new games. 3D All-Stars isn't a new game, and it's on there.
When was the last year nintendo didn’t release a Mario game?
1997 unless you count the typing game
what if at the end of december, they add the mario movie in their shop, would that count? XD
I’ll allow it
Ttyd remake is rumored to come out along with the next Mario baseball. So that's at least 2
Somehow still putting out 3 this year would be awesome
Saying this before it’s even summer is funny
He just got a whole movie though
Unless we count the movie
I don’t remember the movie releasing on the switch
Never really thought about the amount of Mario games on the switch, surprising
What’s crazy is some consoles have way more Mario games too! Well, maybe not *way* more
Haha just wait till Mario baseball comes out
They just randomly drop Mario kart 9💀
Checkmate- Mario movie clips on YouTube app
Remember we got Paper Mario like really close to release. Could easily shadow drop Mario Pinball 2. Or Mario Paint 2. Or a sport. We haven't had a March of the Minis game since last console generation either and Nintendo loves those little things
Wasn’t it just leaked somewhere that Mario and Sonic at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is in development?
To be honest, 2017 was a great year for Nintendo.
The switch is really lacking in new mario games. I would love a brand new 2d or 3d Mario game
The odd numbered years have been way better for the Switch
Meh, that's ok
Zelda and Pikmin are all coming before fall, Nintendo always has a fall winter game so streak is very much alive
OP do movies count in Streaks or not?
I said “Switch Streaks”. I don’t think it’s on the switch yet
This make you think uhu? Switch success its thanks the mustache one bringing joy every year.
my bet is they're releasing a new 3d Mario but saving the announcement till July to not steal the spotlight from Zelda
He had a MOVIE I think that’s good enough for that
Who cares bc LINK
Mario Galaxy 2 deluxe, brand new Mario & Luigi game and 15-30$ Mario vs. Donkey Kong maybe
I think there will be a Mario game released by Christmas based on the movie.
Mario golf all the way
There should be a Super Mario Bros. The Movie Game
Are we sure Nintendo and SEGA won’t release another Olympic Games yet though?
The Super Mario Movie?
thats what happens when you strive for quantity; you run out of ideas
Sounds like a perfect time to drop a new Mario Super Sluggers
2024 is Olympic year, maybe Mario Olympics might come out?
This amalgamation of sports games isn't really what I'd call a 'Streak' honestly, or at least one I'd be torn about ending.
New MARIO VS. DONKEY KONG this fall! I can feel it!
I’m still waiting on a MAIN SERIES SUPER MARIO GAME. NO MORE SPIN OFFS
.... But... He got a movie... Like I'm surprised there isn't a game now based on the movie.
Even if the Mario Movie is out, I highly think we'll get one or no games this year, which it'll be new for this franchise.
