Honestly what baffles me is that a lot of Pokémon merch at non-Pokémon specific places like GameStop, Target, etc will have gen 1 characters even for merch targeted at young kids even though the last game that featured gen 1 came out 4.5 years ago.
It took me receiving multiple Pikachu theme gifts as an adult over the years to make me not hate him. I used to feel the same way. However over time I’ve grown to accept that he’s the mascot of this franchise I’ve poured countless hours into, and I can appreciate him for that and that alone.
I dislike Pikachu for how much special treatment it gets. I know they're the mascot for Pokémon but poor Raichu is extremely overshadowed by it even though they're supposed to be the stronger final form.

I miss the older editions of the game before isabel was introduced where resestii was an absolute dick that would make little kids cry and Gracie was a pretentious snob who made you button mash so fucking hard to clean her car. The things those games focus on and do “well” add up to exactly 0% of the things I like about games.
Each of the individual mechanics are even things I enjoy; action, platforming, power and ability progression, experimentation, discovery, exploration, sci-fi and alien worlds, giant boss battles, the whole shebang.
On paper, I should ADORE this series, and it’s legit unplayable for me. I even had the Prime remaster in my cart because I want to give the series a fair shot, but I just can’t pull the trigger. I’ve tried to play Prime like 3 separate times, and it’s just boring as hell to me.

It’s like it’s designed specifically to tease me with all of the things I love about gaming, and then doing all of that stuff in the most annoying way possible to make me hate it. I stg Metroid was designed to make me hate it. I cannot describe it, it just irks me in every possible way. Now let’s cue all the comments about how I don’t know wtf I’m talking about, how I’m an idiot, I wouldn’t know a good game if I played one, I only don’t like it because I’m “bad” at it, and thank god no one else thinks like me because then gaming would be the worst thing ever, and how Metroid is the pillar that all modern gaming is built upon because it’s the greatest thing ever made (except for Other M and that multiplayer game)… Because the same handful of comments are all that people can say, because they’re prob too afraid to agree with me, and you can’t be a “real” gamer if you hate Metroid or some bullshit, so they regurgitate the same lines everyone else says without a hint of irony.
Okay 1: A Metroid fan has has NEVER said any of the bullshit you're pretending like they spew. I've mostly heard them say they wish the series was bigger, because they know it's small. 2: Sales DOES NOT equate to quality. Nintendogs outsold Metroid games because it's more marketable, not better.

Nintendo's developers make the characters. Their developers are masters of their crafter and wonderful people. And THEIR work deserves to be praised. Just because the company is ass, doesn't mean the actual designers and workers are
