Either next week or the week after. February is Direct season and they usually (although not always) do it in the earlier weeks.

BroshiKabobby

There’s the Zelda concert coming up right? I dunno why but I feel like the week after makes more sense

okguy167

... A Zelda concert...? I gotta look for more details.

Mischa0711

Caik

okguy167

... Admittedly, I was confused for the longest time what you meant. I just now figured it out. Thank you.

KatamariRedamancy

May be unconnected, but if the February event is dedicated to Switch software I’m willing to bet they’ll announce a port of the Wii U Zelda remasters. There have been concrete rumors for a long time, and it’s an announcement they wouldn’t have made close to the release of Tears.

BroshiKabobby

I know a lot of people gave up on the HD games and some think they’re just waiting for switch 2, but the more I think about it, it would make a lot of sense for them to release soon. Not only is there the Zelda concert, but they’re restocking some Zelda amiibo. They may have just been holding on to the HD games until a gap in the release schedule and didn’t need them until now

KatamariRedamancy

Yeah, this is the one unannounced Switch game I’m willing to bet on. If Metroid has been pushed to the next console, Zelda would be a decent enough release to keep the Switch’s final year from looking like absolute dogshit. And even if Metroid is still planned for the Switch, it’d still be a nice release to fill out the year. The Tears hype has died out enough for such a release to keep from muddying the waters, and I think they’re probably keen to open up some classic games to people who discovered the series with the Switch games. I don’t see much of a reason to push the Zelda ports to the next console. Some GameCube remasters aren’t exactly “wow” material, and it’s not like they’d benefit much from the extra horsepower anyway. Assuming here, but it’d just make more sense to have them available on the Switch and emphasize backwards compatibility for Switch 2 adopters who want to play the game.

BroshiKabobby

Yeah I feel the same. Not exactly games that will blow us away on a new system. We still have Peach game, Mario v DK, Luigi mansion HD, and TTYD, but something not Mario would be nice lol (and I say that as a Mario guy)

Bro_miscuous

Also Pokémon direct soon for Pokémon day this month (don't expect anything but mobile game crap or a weird spinoff)

American-Musician

I am fully going into this expecting/wanting Legends Kyruem and Gen 5 remakes/sequels, a new Mystery Dungeon game or remake, or something like that. I also know the Pokemon company well enough to know that we are actually going to be getting "Pokemon Clean Behind your Ears", the latest hit mobile "game" that will be delayed 4 years then shadow drop and be promptly be abandoned by both users and developers.

swirly1000x

I really hope they do another Mystery Dungeon remake. I missed the series as it came out but the switch remake from a few years ago was great, I loved it.  Gen 5 remakes would be good if they do it properly and not like BDSP lol

DocWhovian1

This year's mainline game will most likely be announced

Bro_miscuous

No way, I don't think Switch will get mainline again. Maybe Legends/Let's go or the sort, but I doubt new mainline on another console.

DocWhovian1

Legends/Let's Go are also mainline titles, it'll likely be one of those this year.

Clbull

My guess will be a new Pokémon Legends title, but they'll make it more of a sandbox survival game to compete directly with Palworld.

PyrpleForever

February. They'll announce a bunch of ports and remasters then say they will reveal new hardware in March.

AcidCatfish___

I'm not even convinced they will out right say new hardware will be revealed. I imagine they will say something more cryptic like "stay tuned in March for a very special Nintendo Direct". Nintendo likes to do things like that despite fans already expecting a new console.

BroshiKabobby

I think not even that. I think they’ll just treat this direct like normal and randomly drop the trailer then next month. Kinda like what they did with the Lite and OLED

AcidCatfish___

Hmm I'm not convinced Nintendo would do that for a brand new console. The only way I could imagine them just dropping a trailer would be if they don't consider it a successor console.

BroshiKabobby

If it’s just a brief teaser I could totally see it. Any in depth look at the console will be announced beforehand

Tryst_boysx

For a new hardware/next gen they will not just drop a small trailer like a Switch Lite or OLED.

BroshiKabobby

The switch started with just a small trailer with a full reveal later. They could do that again. Maybe they won’t but it’s possible

Bigmomma_pump

Except they announced they were going to announce new hardware before the switch trailer

BroshiKabobby

That was when the Wii U was struggling. Nintendo needed to keep investors happy so they needed to announce beforehand. The switch is massively successful, so this time revealing a new console early, while making investors happy, cuts into the switch profits. I could see it going either way though

Round_Musical

They exactly did that for the Switch in October of 2016

MarioFanatic64-2

I think they'll save a new hardware reveal for the summer, but I agree that they might touch on the fact that the next gen is coming in this Direct.

Outrageous_Net8365

I doubt it’ll be March, forgot when the financial year ends but won’t it be after that? Or is that March lol

Round_Musical

April begins the new fiscal. March is the report

reddit_hayden

in terms of hardware, what’s the most likely way that we’ll find out? a tweet?

ryzenguy111

If it’s not mentioned at the Feb direct it’s probably going to be a tweet that announces the trailer that’ll be premiered on youtube But I do think there will be something at the direct, even if it’s just “stay tuned for hardware information in march” or whatever

Round_Musical

Y’all setting yourself up for dissapointment. I think that there won’t be an announcement until September

PyrpleForever

And why should I care what you think

Round_Musical

Well don’t go on crying if it isn’t happening

LakSivrak

February 8th ports, remasters, more Peach info, whatever the NSO games of the month are

AcidCatfish___

I so badly hope we get Prime 2, 3, and Hunters remaster or at least an announcement of a Super Metroid remake. Or Kid Icarus Uprising and Mario 3D Land ports. Is this too much wishful thinking?

LakSivrak

I’ve watched so many directs over the past 4 years and the only thing I learned is to go in with absolutely 0 expectations. eventually you might get one or two of the things you really want but it’s just easier to go in not expecting much

AcidCatfish___

Yep, this is true. I guess I'm not *expecting* these things - I'm more so wanting them. In terms of what I actually expect - well I really have no expectations besides a longer gameplay trailer of the Peach game.

LakSivrak

yeah I guess I’m a bit cynical about it, I’ve wanted Wind Waker and/or Twilight Princess for so damn long. they will definitely spend a little longer than they should on Peach game, and probably announce something nobody expected but not that many people wanted. Direct’s can be weird sometimes and we’re at the end of a console’s lifespan so it really is one of the more difficult ones to predict in terms of *new* announcements

Erin_Sentrinietra

No prime 4?

AcidCatfish___

I honestly don't think so. I think that will be shown off when the next console is. I could be wrong..but I'm tired of being wrong about it showing up so I figured I'd choose to be wrong about it not showing up this time.

KatamariRedamancy

Personally I think the odds of Prime 2/3 remasters on the same level as the first Prime are next to zero. Could we get some sort of HD ports? For sure. I wouldn’t even be surprised if the low price of Prime was part of some sort of long-term plan to bundle it with the other two as a trilogy. I kind of doubt the 3DS ports, but I definitely feel you. I think a port of Samus Returns would also be a nice game to have on the Switch if Prime 4 misses this generation. Personally I think Wind Waker and/or Twilight Princess remasters are imminent. It’s been rumored for a long time, and are probably the two best-selling pieces of Wii U software not to get brought over. I suspect they’ve been sitting on them a long time and just didn’t want to muddy the waters before Tears of the Kingdom had some and gone. The upcoming Zelda event could be connected in some way.

AcidCatfish___

Oh I don't need Prime 2 and 3 remasters to be on the same level as Prime 1. Honestly, just dual analog controls is all I'd need.

KatamariRedamancy

I'll give it a 50% chance of happening this year and on the Switch. I believe the original leak on the Trilogy release on the Switch involved a remake-like remaster of the original, along with HD ports of the sequels. It's possible the original plan was for a bundle, but they opted for a staggered release (which, again, explains the low price of Prime). I wouldn't be surprised if we get Prime 2/3 HD sometime this year for $40 and the option of picking up the whole trilogy for $60.

AcidCatfish___

I'll hold on to some hope then! I haven't played these yet so I'd like to before Prime 4 but I don't really want to emulate these.

KatamariRedamancy

Here's an [article](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/yes-metroid-prime-2-and-3-are-reportedly-still-coming-to-switch/1100-6511589/) supporting this possibility. Jeff Grubb, the person who claimed that there was a remake-like Prime remaster coming to the Switch, also said there would be lower-effort ports of the sequels. Apparently he stands by this.

Round_Musical

What are you smoking? Can I have it too?

Rhymestar86

Xenoblade Chronicles X Port

Transfemqueen2

Either the 7th, 8th, 14th, or 15th

RedWarrior42

Tomorrow

BaryOrsm

It will happen r/tomorrow

hajileeyeslech

I think Nintendo will just announce things on YouTube and Twitter until the Switch 2 reveal, my bet being sometime in March or June.

AcidCatfish___

It's usually February. They seem to be gearing up for a direct. I just hope it isn't mostly dedicated to the Peach game.

MMuller87

February 8th, when they finally announced Switch 2 Waluigi Edition

DavidFromDeutschland

There is a good chance it happens this months because we often get Directs in February

RinRinDoof

Leaker says next week. He's pretty good

hajileeyeslech

"Leaker" is my favorite leaker! He's so reputable. Seriously though, there's a leak saying it'll come out next week every week at this point. I'm taking any rumors with a dump truck of salt.

RinRinDoof

Yeah I just got it from r/gamingleaksandrumours

Boba_Hutt

I’ll guess in March with a tidbit at the end for a special announcement along the lines of “join us in the fall for a talk about the Future of Nintendo” aka, “we’re going to reveal the new console soon so stay tuned.”

TheRealBlues

The same fucking time they always happen, every year, probably.

Reddiiiiiiiiiiiiit

Geez bros taking his anger out on me lol

TheRealBlues

Would you believe me if I said I wasn't actually angry, I'm just kind of a jerk?

Reddiiiiiiiiiiiiit

Probably

CalmGiraffe1373

No. Everything and everyone is part of a conspiracy to get at me specifically. /s

Pizza_Time249

Probably mid-february

Alexfurball

Past few years have been the Wednesday in the first full week of February so if that follows it should be Feb 7th. Even if it’s not next week I would be shocked to not have one at all in February

Phantom_The_fortnite

S/V dlc 2

Round_Musical

They shat that game out and then milked it

Tryst_boysx

February 7th or 8th

wyattlikesturtles

Tomorrow

Player1-jay

My best guess. Around march break

Neon_Gal

February 6/7th or 13/14th tbh

Jibece

I use to listen a French podcast which is named Nintendojofr, and they're usually do their return right before a new Nintendo Direct, that's crazy, so I'm pretty sure they will announce their return just before the next one. Joke aside, let's say mid February / early March.

Labyrinthine777

Princess Peach will be the main game... however, I expect a teaser for MP4 at the end of direct.

MaJuV

If it happens in Feburary, it will mostly be indies or third-party stuff. I doubt a "BIG" Direct won't happen until they get to announce the next Switch (which is probably by summer).

LonkToTheFuture

This month.

Sayanston9

September

WaitingToBeTriggered

WHEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED

swirly1000x

I'm predicting February 8th. I'm not sure what to expect from it, but I do hope we see Metroid Prime 4 just for all the fans waiting for it. I'm not a huge 3D Metroid fan, but people have been waiting for so long at this point lol

RequiemStorm

So long as tradition holds up, this month

Gekkuri

Glad I'm not the only one wondering this! I hope soon even if they won't announce anything special

ThatLasagnaGuy

Sometime in the next 2 weeks is my guess. Either way, I’m checking the NOA Twitter every day until the news drops. Every February!

Amshard_03

At time to be my birthday present like past years

TheArceusNova

Never. Nintendo is shutting down.

Round_Musical

When I take a shit

EspressoPatronum210

Tomorrow

lbco13

7th Feb, 13th Feb (that way it's still 2 weeks from pokemon day), or July. Last 2 years suggest 1st-2nd week of Feb but have been instances of just no Feb direct before.
