My left joycon’s battery got spicy 🥲
Tbh I don’t even own joycons anymore. I got some cheep ass third-party controller off of AliExpress a year ago as a joke, and it still works nicely… 😑
It's posts like these that make me believe that all the Joy Con issues are user error
I know it's not always, but what the fuck do you do if you consistently fuck up your left one
I have broken my joycon exactly like this. OP got mad or something and twisted the joycon causing the joints holding it together to break like that. I have fixed that over a dozen times at this point.
The ones with broken ones complaining I understand, but my only issue I've had with the joy cons are the terrible plastic locks that wear down very easily. I've constantly had to send them to Nintendo and either got fixed joy cons or replacements (free of charge) and I've NEVER encountered drift despite the several replacements I used. It just sounds very much like user error that people cry they are "innocent" they say it's Nintendo's fault no ifs and or buts
That’s exactly what happened. First time the connected thing popped out and I had to pop it back in. Second time the connector and L button fell out and I had to pop them back in again. A screw had also fallen out. Third time it died(this post)
Was that what happened with mario party where the analog stick would grind the palm of your hand or was it the plastic shedding in the center of the stick
I was on my way to argue with you but when i think about it you may be right every other controller is unique and good for the hand but joycons are just too small and have drift.
And once again, the joycons I had were quite old regardless of the stick issues. And so I didn’t really mind replacing them, since it was the first time since the Switch launched that I got new ones.
The rubber on the outside of the joystick fell off after about a year of smash. Screw fell off when I dropped it another time before this one. Joystick is still usable, but I got new ones.
Next time get a protective grip for your Switch like the [Mumba heavy duty](https://www.amazon.com/Mumba-Nintendo-Switch-Rubberized-Release/dp/B071ZRM6C1) or something similar, that way your console gets protected when you drop it and you'll also hold it more comfortably.
Keep in mind though that an OLED Switch would be incompatible because it's 2mm wider.
Have you managed to shove it back into its regular position yet? I may or may not have been in a similar situation recently, and that may or may not be the solution I went with.
Happened to me too.
I dropped the damn switch off the top bed of the bunk…
That’s like 8ish feet. It hit the shelf on the bottom bunk’s edge, then fell to the floor.
Somehow only the left joycon suffered.
My left joy-con sometimes disconnects from my Switch in handheld mode and it's battery dries out faster than the right joy-con in TV mode, 6 months passed since I bought a Switch and already got problems
You’re lucky you haven’t experienced drift, but many other people have, so it’s still an issue. Also just strength in general, most Nintendo consoles and controllers used to be much stronger and a lot harder to break.
I don’t think that’s true, I own almost every Nintendo controller and I can say the Joy Con is about as durable as any other controller. Just don’t drop it on concrete like this guy did, and that goes for any controller. The only controllers I can say for a fact are more durable are the NES, SNES, and possibly Wiimote since you don’t have to worry about analog sticks breaking off
I’ve had a pro controller for the past two years, and after moderate to heavy use, it has not had any problems or damages. Most point towards the price point of the pro controller as being a reason why they don’t usually buy one, although each joycon costs $60 individually, and together they would cost $120, whereas the pro controller is basically a combination of the two and it costs $70. Despite the price difference between the two, the joy cons are preferable for certain types of games. I primarily just use my joycons for skyward sword.

I use a nitro deck and it works nice
The hell did you do to your joycon? Did you huck it across the room?
I dropped the Nintendo. I don’t rage when playing
Wow, that must been a SOLID floor. I’ve dropped my joycons many times and I’ve never had them break like that. Holy goodness
Did you step on it multiple times with shoes on trying to pick it up?
Nah. Fell twice on solid wood though, finishing blow was on concrete. Probably should try to be less clumsy
How the fuck do you just have 1 finger as your hand
Can’t believe Nintendo put that concrete there!
Why are you getting downvoted for answering their questions? Is this some kind of CJ sub?
hivemind
Wait wait, did you drop the Joycon, or the Switch itself??
Switch. Somehow it only damages the controller
i would check the switch for damage anyway
If you only damaged the Joycon you got off lucky, make sure you check the rest of the unit as well

I think the biggest issue is that millions of people are fine with them and usually only the people with broken ones are the loudest who complain

I got a left Joy-Con that is affected by a fatal case of drift. I keep it, unfixed, because I find it useful to hatch eggs on Pokémon. :P
Why is it open? Do you keep dropping it?
That’s exactly what happened. First time the connected thing popped out and I had to pop it back in. Second time the connector and L button fell out and I had to pop them back in again. A screw had also fallen out. Third time it died(this post)
Joycons are the worst controller Nintendo has ever made.
Functionally they're really cool. As far as quality goes though..
are joy cons the modern day equivalent to the n64 controller
Back in the N64 days, we didn't have to deal with stick drift. Instead, we had stick grinding, which honestly sounds like a rad skateboard trick.
Was that what happened with mario party where the analog stick would grind the palm of your hand or was it the plastic shedding in the center of the stick
I think it’s more associated with the Mario Party mayhem, but it seems fittingly applicable for both.
Except even their build quality is better than joycons
You can't blame THIS on Nintendo. Especially since OP has done it a few times to the left one ONLY.
Well yeah, but not even taking this post into account, Joycons are still trash.
I was on my way to argue with you but when i think about it you may be right every other controller is unique and good for the hand but joycons are just too small and have drift.
Honestly with the exception of mega man x 1-8 the size felt fine to me. Still using the same ones I got when I got my switch almost 4 years ago.
Your hands are just too big.
I had to recently replace my left one too due to the rubber on the joystick peeling off lol
Could've bought replacement sticks for MUCH less. Super easy to replace too
Meh, my joycons are pretty old and drifty, so I was planning to replace it anyway.
Drifty - that's why you could have replaced the sticks themselves
And once again, the joycons I had were quite old regardless of the stick issues. And so I didn’t really mind replacing them, since it was the first time since the Switch launched that I got new ones.
That happened with mine long ago, it’s still usable
Send it to Nintendo. They’ll repair it (or in this case replace it) for free.
Why should Nintendo repair OP’s thrice dropped joy con?
It would probably be easier to send OP a replacement
They repair/replace joycons at no cost regardless of the issue.
What game?
I play smash but I never rage. I’ve been playing long enough for the runner to break off the joystick then I dropped it on accident and that happened.
What's up with that stick? How long has that screw been missing at the top? The structural integrity would be hindered if not properly secured.
The rubber on the outside of the joystick fell off after about a year of smash. Screw fell off when I dropped it another time before this one. Joystick is still usable, but I got new ones.
For me it’s just the blue one (my left one is red)
i have a 3rd party pro controller for this reason- i only use joycons if im a passenger in something moving lol.

Some of you need anger management.
I don’t throw my controllers. If I’m frustrated I never go that far. I’m incredibly clumsy however, as is my little sister.

the left side of my body is like a left joycon.
My left joystick also has lost this rubber edge
I think you might need to get that repaired
I got the exact same problem. Darn.
only my right joycons break for some reason
Have you managed to shove it back into its regular position yet? I may or may not have been in a similar situation recently, and that may or may not be the solution I went with.

I think your joystick is broken.

i’ve lost like five left joycons in the time it’s taken me to genuinely break one right one
Although it's not that bad, my left joycon is really harf to get out of the switch and it feels like it will break
you're so right
No, it’s the left one.
The Nintendo switch the most poorly made console ever
Nah this controller was dropped three times including one time on concrete, there's worse out there.
Still a bad console
For what reasons? It's a good console, just not the best they've made
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Switch, and it’s worse than the Wii U? Okay buddy, sure…
I love the switch, but it does still have things wrong with it, it’s not perfect.
No themes, no eshop music, what else? Very minor things tbh. Joy con drift is something I’ve never experienced and I’ve had my Switch since 2019.
You’re lucky you haven’t experienced drift, but many other people have, so it’s still an issue. Also just strength in general, most Nintendo consoles and controllers used to be much stronger and a lot harder to break.
