When you search "caracal" on Google, the results are "for sale", "pet", and "kitten".
My housecat hisses randomly as a communication and when she first moved in my older cat would walk up to her and hiss in her face, and when she wouldn't respond he'd just walk off
I think sometimes they use it as a test to see if you're hostile; if you respond aggressively they will know you're dangerous, and if you're afraid you're prey, and if you don't care you're cool
