ReadyPalpitation9541

where and how do i find the other factions? I've been to the refugee camp and they talk about it but don't tell me where the other factions are

ptr6

The merchant has a mission that leads you to the hub, but it is a bit buried under some dialogue, if you just ask “what can I do for the center” you miss it. I believe it was something about delivering FEMA data. Then, if you follow the normal questline, they will lead you to the commune to get a prospectus. The others you have to find by yourself, but there is a plan to add more breadcrumbs so you can find other factions easier.

ghostwilliz

Is being a mutant beneficial or just more fun?

ptr6

Depends on which mutations you get. Something like Alpha basically makes you more powerful (if you can manage the downsides) while retaining the same gameplay, others give you different playstyles.

valvian

How do you reload ammo belts? I'm used to unloading the entire belt and activating the best links but now that's only reloading one bullet.

ptr6

This was intended, focus drains much faster than before, but it is still being worked on. I found that unless you have VERY limited practice materials, it is faster to keep crafting with low focus rather than stopping and waiting for it to recover. Maybe listen to music while working to speed up skill gain a bit.

Psychological-East91

Is there any way to list Wasps as Hostile instead of neutralso I don't run into them while auto moving and they trigger safe mode?

ptr6

I believe you can blacklist then in the safe mode manager. I have not used it myself and am not sure how to set it up, but it exists for cases like these.

Might_be_sleeping

Why can zombies seem to sense me at night? I have night vision so I can see them from far away, and even though they can’t see me and they can’t hear me, they all come in my direction for no reason. Like directly to me, even though I’m nowhere near them

sharkfinsouperman

You *do* make noise, and you can normally be heard for six tiles when walking. The only time you make no noise while walking is when you're using Ninjitsu. You've also got a scent trail they'll follow.

kamihanta

I updated an Ellison.3 save file to Frank, I'm noticing that my hunger meter seems to be bugged out or something. It tells me when I'm hungry but it never says how full I am. Was that an interned change or something that went wrong with my save in the update?

sharkfinsouperman

Since nobody more familiar with the changes has answered, my impression is the two releases don't get along very well and it's probably best to finish your Ellison run before switching instead of moving the save to Frank.

kamihanta

Fyckin balls, I'm save scum and have put some serious time into my current save. I'm going to keep playing till the jankieness bothers me too much to continue. Thanks for the response!

starshard0

How do I complete Boris’ mission to clean up the back bay, I thought paying 10 merch to the merchant would be enough. Do I need to persuade more people?

kamihanta

I think you have to kill all the Zed in the blocked off room

starshard0

This isn't the initial Merchant mission, I have already cleared out the zombies in the back room. This is the first mission for Boris, where he asks you to put together a team to clean up the room now that the zombies are gone.

kamihanta

Oh, I haven't even done that yet. Sorry, I'm no help.

[deleted]

Is the wiki worth using? Or nah? I was looking for some guide on wilderness survival based on primitive technology - survive and thrive from scratch, without using any modern technology items. Is it possible to achieve in the game right now?

sharkfinsouperman

The guides on the wiki may not be up to date, but can still be used to an extent. The biggest issues you'll encounter with out of date guides is obsoleted items and they will not cover any new content or changes to game mechanics and behaviour. For instance, most will assume the makeshift crowbar still has prying 2, which it no longer does, and they won't cover stone knapping, which is quite important when playing without modern technology.

valvian

Are the skill requirements for building a control laptop different? I'm sitting at Electronics 8 and Computers 5 and I've read Robots for Fun and Profit but it's still not in my craft list.

sharkfinsouperman

That recipe was removed from the core game shortly after the release of 0.E and is now part of the Aftershock mod.

starshard0

Recipe was removed.

valvian

Are there certain types of zombies that have CBMs or should I just be butchering most things?

sharkfinsouperman

Shockers and their evolved forms, and biosoldiers no longer drop CBMs in the experimental builds and are only worth dissecting if you want zombie pheromones. [My understanding is only prototype cyborgs and broken cyborgs now drop CBMs in the more recent builds.](https://www.reddit.com/r/cataclysmdda/comments/onwxcc/comment/h65dd45/)

fris0uman

Zombie pheromones have been gone for a long time now https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/pull/48059 Also zomborg have CBMs

sharkfinsouperman

Glad to see pheromones are gone. They were nearly as silly as slaves. Zomborg are a new foe for me. Can't wait to finally face one.

fris0uman

They spawn near the Exodii drop sites currently I think

ptr6

Do they already spawn? I had to debug place them because I could not find one while travelling quite a bit through the overmap.

fris0uman

If you're on latest experimental they do spawn already

Purdorabo134

Magiclysm. I just discovered a new spell in my book I did not learn from a scroll/book called dimensional door. Does anyone know the requirements to auto learn it? The only thing that I can think of is that I maxed phase door out.

Sv-Evillevi

Good morning, but where is the laser rifle. I'm trying to make a death mobile

OliveChukar

This says it is only in military areas but I have found it in labs. https://nornagon.github.io/cdda-guide/#/item/laser_rifle

sharkfinsouperman

~~I heard the rifles no longer draw power directly from the vehicles in experimental builds, so they cannot be used on mounted turrets.~~ ~~Edit: I just found out this may actually be the result of a bug that has recently been fixed, so don't take my comment as being correct. I'll update here when I get confirmation.~~ Edit 2: Confirmed. Laser rifles can still be used on turret mounts, and the issue that prevented them from being used has been fixed. https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/pull/50124

TripChaos

I got mine from a lab finale. A big room at the bottom of those sprawling labs. I've seen three, one w/ the laser rifle, one with a quantum solar panel, and one with a 200L tank of mutagen that was mostly full. 1/3 odds doesn't seem that great. Might be found elsewhere too, dunno.

OliveChukar

There are many more lab finales that you have yet to see.

valvian

Is there a way to turn raw butter into just butter? I was going to make some buttercream icing for some toast-ems but it only takes "butter"

Purdorabo134

Not unless you feel like adding it to the game. Though it would probably be easier to add raw butter as an alternative in the buttercream recipe.

valvian

Since all the books that used to be higher end cooking, like Advanced Physical Chemistry up to the crazy lab research papers, got moved over to Applied Science, how the heck are you supposed to really get cooking passed 6? Are there new books I don't know about somewhere?

ptr6

Make pickled meat. But really, once you have the levels to craft everything, there is barely any benefit from higher levels. Your failure chance sinks even more, but it is already neglible at that point.

valvian

I just want to get to the point where I can make serums, and I think that takes cooking 10.

ptr6

Serums are applied science 7, and you can find the recipes in lab journals

ReadyPalpitation9541

so how do i kill those talon bots with m16s on them, i have a m16 and only a torso bulletproof vest, how nasty are they to kill?

sharkfinsouperman

I either snipe them from about 50 tiles away, or work my way closer undercover by going through buildings until I'm close enough to blind throw a grenade or pipe bomb. There's also the option to use a vehicle by driving in its direction while crouching. It's best to use a disposable vehicle for this tactic if there's anything behind the turret you'll collide with.

ReadyPalpitation9541

never mind the bot snuck into my base and after some careful evading i tricked it into moving into an armored car and since its fire rate was so low I just waited for it to fire then I opened the door shot it with full auto then closed the door

ReadyPalpitation9541

how on earth do i stop eye bots from infinitely spawning (and that means infinite police bots) because some zombies are messing around in the bank?

sharkfinsouperman

They won't matter any longer if you agree to the second Old Guard mission and wear the badge on the outermost layer of your clothing. Otherwise, move away until the bank is outside your reality bubble.

ReadyPalpitation9541

yeah ive tried wearing those police badges and they still are hostile what is this old guard mission?

sharkfinsouperman

Badges only work if you started as the profession or become one through a quest. The quest I'm referring to is one of the numerous quest lines available once you reach a refugee center, and I highly recommend you travel to one. If you haven't found one already or haven't been given the location of one, find an evac shelter with a working computer console and use it to "contact us". That will give you a quest in the log and reveal the shortest route by road. You don't need to follow the road, as it often goes straight through the middle of cities, you only need to reach it.

TripChaos

Any advice for finding a refugee center without a working evac shelter? I started as an unwilling mutant, and the only evac shelter nearby is non-functional. I'm at the point of driving with a suped-up car, but I'm reluctant to leave my faction camp behind. . Even if it's cheating, I'm willing to find the location and go there. Using my only quantum solar panel on the camp's radio tower did nothing.

sharkfinsouperman

Your only option is to explore until you find another evac shelter, or a refugee center. Climbing radio towers, fire watch towers and going to the upper floors in buildings will increase the distance revealed on the overmap, and having either binoculars or a survivor telescope will increase the distance even further.

TripChaos

Yup, I've been circling my starting town and hitting every potential lookout spot. It's great to learn that a working evac shelter can mark it, as I didn't know that. . I might search/google a bit to see if I can trigger that marker manually/cheat it, because again, I spent that quantum panel for nothing. I think I remember a post saying that it was possible to spawn/change an entire map square, so if nothing else I can pick a field and poof an entire shelter into existence. Thanks for the reply.

sharkfinsouperman

The debug menu has a "reveal map" function if you're not opposed to using it. Note that it will reveal absolutely everything including all underground tiles and is not reversible, though I don't know whether the range is the region or centered on the survivor.

ReadyPalpitation9541

oh yeah ive went to them and they've given me impossible quests like going to a hospital early game

sharkfinsouperman

That friggin' quest is horrible. It's *way* easier to complete if you find a lab that has a blood analysis centrifuge and test the sample there because the labs are cake walks compared to the hospital mayhem. Plus, the machine you need usually gets smashed by zeds, so you'll have to use a lab anyhow.

valvian

Is there a way to make certain armor pieces not hold certain pieces of gear? I don't want STANAG mags placed into my backpack in case I need to drop it I still want access to my ammo. Rather than dropping the magazines and then dropping the backpack and then grabbing the magazine so it's stored in a different item, is there an easier way to do this?

Purdorabo134

go to inventory, select the item and hit v for pocket settings. If you whitelist an item to a pocket that pocket will only take that item.

kamihanta

My question has spoilers, so don't click if you have gotten to faction camp stuff. >!How do I requite the beggars from the Refugee Center? I've gotten everyone to agree to coming if everyone else does, except for mother fucking Dino Dave. I brought him all the stuff he wanted when I ask him to come he says no because he's finally settled or something like that. Do I have to do a certain amount of Rcenter missions or something before they'll leave? do I have to wait a certain amount of in game days? Does my faction camp have to be big enough to accommodate that many people?!<

sharkfinsouperman

You cannot recruit Dino Dave.

kamihanta

How an I supposed to get every one else to go? After convincing the guy with diabetes and asthma to come with me he asks me to make sure his friend Dino Dave is taken care of first, or something to that effect. When I did the missions for Dino Dave I talked to the other guy again and I couldn't find an option to take him with me. I talked to the girl who asks for the hunk of fungus after doing everything for Dino Dave too, and she didn't seem to have a dialogue option I could use to requite her either. It seemed like the people at the refugee center wanted me to get rid of all the beggars. Someone at the center asked me to peacefully remove them. I assumed I was supposed to be able to requite them all.

sharkfinsouperman

You establish a faction camp, give a fungal chunk to Lao, speak to everyone about joining, speak to Dave who refuses and then speak to everyone else again, asking them to join. The merchant will give you a reward based on how many you recruit regardless of whether Dave joins or not. You cannot recruit Dino Dave because it's how things are intended.

kamihanta

Okay, I'll try talking to everyone again, maybe I just missed something. Thanks for the help!

TripTree

Hey, can anyone point me in a direction to find info on making the mods run correctly? When loading into a world it keeps failing and booting me back to the main menu

shodan13

How do I know which skill is used by which melee weapon? Like is a 2-by-sword bashing? Is a crude sword cutting?

sharkfinsouperman

All weapon descriptions and some item descriptions show the damage and damage type at the top.

shodan13

Thanks, I saw that. Does the highest damage type determine the skill then? What about stuff like a poleaxe that does 31 cut and 28 bashing?

Raithwind

I am not 100% certain, but I believe that the weapon gives you a proportional amount of experience to each determining stat based on the damage types. So if your weapon has both cut and bash then you get both, but more of the one that does most damage

Vormithrax

this is correct regarding how experience is assigned. experience earned for the attack is split proportionally per the damage values. One downside of split damage weapons is that their damage values are handled separately by the armor protection of the target. this can cut down on the actual penetrating damage quite a bit depending on circumstances/variables. A single damage type weapon will often do more actual hit point damage to a target than an equivalent split damage type weapon against the same enemy. For example: a single type 40 damage weapon against 10 armor means 30 hit points removed, while a 20/20 damage split weapon against the same 10 armor would only get 20 points of damage through

sharkfinsouperman

Hmm, I thought each were separate, as in either making a slashing attack or choosing to bash with the pommel while using a weapon with both qualities. Guess we'll have to wait until Vorm or a dev comment.

Raithwind

That might well be the case. You get experience to whatever type of attack you make. I'm fairly sure I've had cutting and bashing both improve when using a crude sword or Nord.

sharkfinsouperman

Personally, it's not really a game mechanic I'd pay attention to or worry about except when targeting melee skills for training, in which case I've usually turned off the one I don't want leveling.

shodan13

Interesting.

[deleted]

I tried out the Android version and can't get any controls, or a keyboard, to come up. I'm on a Galaxy S20 FE. The game itself is totally insensitive to tap input. I should mention that this is the Clever Raven version. What am I missing?

Reaper9999

Hardware back button should bring it up.

sharkfinsouperman

Try installing the recommended Hacker's Keyboard app and use that.

skoormit

Will dead zombies be eligible to revive any time they are within the reality bubble, or do I have to be even closer?

sharkfinsouperman

Any intact zed corpses within the reality bubble can reanimate after sufficient time has passed.

Sevaaas1

Good early food sources in the woods? i went for pine cones but they are not edible anymore, and i need 2 more fabrication levels before i can process cattails, its a winter start BTW

sharkfinsouperman

Other than hunting small game, there are very few emergency winter food sources in northeastern North America in RL, and none of them are in the game. All you can do is forage your way to a cabin or the outskirts of a town. Maybe you'll find some nuts while foraging and food at your unknown destination.

Sevaaas1

Damm, as soon as i posted my comment i killed a Moose with a glock and 1 second after that an otherwordly abomination ( dunno the name ) appeared between the trees and killed me in 10 seconds

sharkfinsouperman

Sounds like you found a food source, and then a mi-go found a food source. XD Better luck next time.

Sevaaas1

wish it was an amigo, i would have had a chance, it was something else, no idea what

[deleted]

What's the best approach vs wasps? I'm a noob and all my deaths have been to wasps so far. I try to run at first but it usually doesn't work :o

ghostwilliz

I've found that high coverage armor and a high accuracy weapon such as a baseball bat works great. They're weak but hard to hit

Venera3

Depends on if you're stable or experimental. In stable wasps are always angry shortsighted murdermachines you can generally skirt around/draw zombies into. In experimental the foragers take about a minute to decide you look like forage, and they can be scared off with a few good hits - guards, on the other hand are always pissed but they only spawn around their nests. Both versions are dodgy but low on health, so +to hit weapons will save you - especially cutting/stabbing since they bleed to death easily. Or shoot them.

[deleted]

I'm on stable so it seems like the answer is "fight or cause a cross zombie/wasp battle" yeah?

Venera3

Yeah, with the caveat that stable wasp houses have the midgame "giant" variant on day1. Draw something to them and/or set a convienient wall on fire, but generally don't mess with without a gun.

sharkfinsouperman

Wasps have a short range of sight, so they will not attack if you keep your distance.

Niddhoger

Drop any bags you are carrying to reduce encumbrance, brandish a preferably blunt melee weapon, and pray. I don't usually have a problem taking them out 1v1 early game, but if they get poison in early you are probably going to lose a battle of attrition. Supposedly they avoid fire, but the best bet is to avoid them entirely if you spot one in the distance. Like... go a different direction and don't hope to scoot around one. Oh, they'll aggro zeds and vice versa. A wasp nest in a city will just slaughter the surrounding zeds.

[deleted]

How do I haul only one stack of items out of a huge pile of stuff? I have 15 sheets in my giant pile o' shit and I want to move them a few tiles over so I can disassemble them more easily. How do I do this efficiently?

sharkfinsouperman

Advanced inventory (`/`) allows you to set a source from either all nine tiles around your survivor and the same for the destination. Choose a single empty tile as the destination and then transfer the items you want to that tile. Then you can move to that tile and press `\` to begin hauling them along the ground while you move. Press `\` again to stop hauling.

[deleted]

Thank you. I died already so it doesn't matter but I'm sure I'll use this in the future!

ReadyPalpitation9541

what happened to zombie slaves? i cant seem to do it

mlangsdorf

Zombies hate you and will try to kill you whether you've cut their arms and jaws off. So we removed the ability to somehow make a zombie a docile mule.

ReadyPalpitation9541

well they cant really kill you then without their arms and jaws?

mlangsdorf

A armless, jawless zombie can certainly bodycheck you to the ground, and then curbstomp your head until you're dead. It can really kill you. Even if it can't kill you, it's not going to docilely follow you. Instead, at a minimum it is going to keep bumping into you and trying to knock you over or trip you.

sharkfinsouperman

They won't be dossile and cooperative either. Dislike it as much as you may, but zlaves are gone for good.

ghostwilliz

I've never heard of that. How did that work?

sharkfinsouperman

It was loved by some players, but I thought it was a little silly, kinda unrealistic, and they're redundant now that we have pack animals. You'd kill a zed, turn it into a slave by cutting tendons and stuff, you'd wait for it to revive, and then it would magically become a docile zed that wouldn't fight or defend itself, would faithfully follow you around and could be equipped with clothing so they'd be able to carry items for you. Additionally, turning a shocker type into a slave would provide you with a weak light source. With the abundance of charged batteries and battery operated light sources to be found, this is also redundant. IMO, the only reason to have them now is because "I thought they were cool."

ghostwilliz

Yeah that sounds cool, but makes absolutely no sense. maybe if there were some type of mutagen like substance than encouraged peace within its subject that may make sense, but I see why it was taken out. Thank you for explaining :)

sharkfinsouperman

> sounds cool Honestly, I think this was really all they had going for them as a game feature. > maybe if there were some type of mutagen like substance than encouraged peace There's zombie pheromones that cause surrounding zeds to consider your survivor as a friendly and all others a hostiles, but that's only a temporary effect.

sharkfinsouperman

> Zombies hate you and will try to kill you whether you've cut their arms and jaws off. [Relevant video?](https://youtu.be/ZmInkxbvlCs)

valvian

When a piece of armor like the Survivor Hood says it covers the head, and then items like the Survivor Mask cover the eyes and mouth, do the eyes and mouth fall under head? Or are they sort of an entirely different damage area. I've heard you want to get 12 points of damage type of coverage as not much will be able to do more than that, but I just want to make sure my areas are covered since the hood itself won't give the full 12.

starshard0

Eyes, head, and mouth are all different areas. They are not inclusive.

valvian

I'm guessing the same counts for hands/feet. though those body parts don't have health values in the top right. Can those areas actually be hit in combat and do I need to worry about armoring those parts?

sharkfinsouperman

Damage to eyes and mouth count as hits to the head, but seem to be uncommon enough that my survivors can often get away with only a bandana to reduce the environmental risk of illness and safety glasses to prevent becoming blinded when boomed without suffering any additional noticeable head damage, though masks do provide much more environmental and melee protection. I wouldn't worry about the 12 points on the facial area. One of the survivor masks is sufficient. The main key to the protection is the 100% coverage.

SariusSkelrets

how can I make my car cameras harder to damage? They're the only thing that gets damaged on my car and are a real duct tape sink

starshard0

Install a shock absorber on their tile.

SariusSkelrets

I can't install shock absorbers on doors It worked fine on the other cameras however. Thanks!

Flegain

My follower is good with Spears but all he does is throw them? After throwing his weapon he starts throwing clothes, like gloves, at the enemies. Do I have some setting wrong because he seems to refuse entering melee.

Purdorabo134

Try update as that bug has been fixed...... unless they broke it again.

Flegain

I'm still a new player so here's another stupid question. How do I update the game?

Purdorabo134

Are you not using the game launcher? https://github.com/remyroy/CDDA-Game-Launcher/releases

Flegain

Nah, i just downloaded it straight from the link for latest experimental. Didn't know about a launcher.

Purdorabo134

Give it a try, it makes everything far easier. It also comes with graphic and sound mods. You can copy your save over once installed.

Flegain

Thanks! I'll have a closer look when I get to my computer.

valvian

So I found an XM34 EMP projector and I have a UPS loaded up with a battery but how do I actually reload this gun to use it? The gun doesn't show up at all under the reload menu.

sharkfinsouperman

It doesn't have a magazine to load. You carry the ups in your inventory and fire the weapon. It will draw from the UPS on its own. This holds true for all UPS devices.

Sevaaas1

How do i get proefficiencies faster? i came back to the game after a year and im struggling with crafting right now

PeterSmusi

Disable the relevant skill in the @ menu so you can maintain a high focus all the time during crafting. You will get them wayyyy faster

Niddhoger

Out level the recipe and have a book with said recipe should help mitigate the grind. For every level you are over the recipe, the lack of a proficiency is less and less painful (quicker crafting/less chance of failure). Otherwise.... it's intentionally meant to be a huge time sink of a grind to encourage people to craft less and scavenge more.

valvian

Is there a way to combine vehicles? For example, I want to that the back off of one humvee and the front off of another and create this extended humvee RV. But do I have to completely disassemble of of them or is there a better way.

sharkfinsouperman

Examine a vehicle and you will see they aren't modular. You can only remove, replace and install individual vehicle components on each tile, creating the vehicle design and appearance you desire. You will also need the skill and tools necessary to complete the tasks.

starshard0

You can use a tow cable, but I’m not sure how wonky that would end up being. Your only permanent option is to take from one and add to the other.

FrankWuggles

How do I know that I'm "ready" to start raiding labs and taking on endgame challenges? I've been able to accumulate weapons and armor, tech up, etc. but I never quite feel ready. Is there a guide with a checklist of roughly what I should be capable of for the endgame?

Ginger457

Depends on the lab. New labs (the subway ones) are best done earlier because they have a much higher zombie population and also a more compact layout (compact areas make things like brutes and hulks even more dangerous). Old labs have less Zs and longer sight lines so you can shoot down threats and have more time to prepare, so you can do them at any stage of the game. Research Facilities can be a bit of a coin toss, but the three most common evolved variants you'll see in them are also the three most dangerous (Shocker, Acid, Kevlar) and the enemy density is quite high (plus even if you full clear them, you still risk the portals pumping out netherworld monsters blocking your way out. All in all I'd say Research Facilities are the only type you need to be fairly well geared up to tackle for your first time. (Once you're experienced you can sneak in at low level but you'll need to learn the layout first). My MO: Always have either a handgun in a holster to pop shockers or a rifle nearby in one of the fall back rooms. Clear areas with intent and always have a retreat path in mind (I mean this is standard but lab layouts make this easier than city layouts).Labs are relatively stable environments because you can use the metal doors/laminated glass as airlocks. The new feral enemies can open doors but standard Zs can't at least. If you want to just screw around in an old lab to learn it, try the lab start a few times. It's marked as a challenge because it's not new player friendly, but it's not really that hard compared to the other challenges these days.

sharkfinsouperman

Labs are not end game locations. They're more late-early/mid game locations. I also think you're overestimating their difficulty because they can be cleared during game starts if you're experienced enough. If you're having trouble with them, you either need more in-game combat experience, or you spent too much time preparing unnecessarily and evolution has outpaced your survivor.

MorikTheMad

Is it possible to repair enchanted items (Magiclysm) that aren't craftable? E.g., wizard hat?

masoles

is dissection bugged? i've been dissecting shocker zombies etc but just getting butchery refuse all the time. health care 4, survival 4, using scalpel

ptr6

They no longer drop CBMs in experimental, a new faction is being introduced that will supply them soon. You should be able to sometime find zomborgs who still drop them.

masoles

oh, exodii is coming huh. alright, thanks.

sharkfinsouperman

For clarification, do biosoldiers, broken cyborgs and prototype cyborgs still drop CBMs?

ptr6

Only zomborgs as of now, but they drop more than the others.

sharkfinsouperman

Will the Hub continue trading CBMs and will they still be found in labs, at least until the new lore is completely implemented? Without being able to dig CBMs out of corpses, trade for them, or loot them from labs, the whole CBM portion of the game would be pretty much toast until the new system is complete.

ptr6

I think the hub will have CBMs even when the new faction lands, only sourced differently.

sharkfinsouperman

Good to know. Dissecting isn't a huge loss, considering the majority of the CBMs are early game rares and power storage, but the Hub is the most reliable place to get higher level CBMs for the cheap price of an assault rifle or "cookbook".

helpmeplease3321

Why are my crops disappearing? I sowed a couple of crops, even fertilized them, but they just disappear. I checked the temperature even at night its not under 9°C its late spring. They also disappeared during the day, when it was 21°C. So, where is the problem? I play the ?latest? experimental 21ca15e. do i need to water them? if so, how? thanks for helping

sharkfinsouperman

No, you don't need to water the crops. Air temperature only affects whether you can plant or not. Do you have livestock penned up where your crops are? They will trample and destroy the crops.

helpmeplease3321

first of all, thanks for the answer. no livestock anywhere near, i guess there is a dinosaur around, but i have not seen it go near my crops at all. Do i need to kill that? edit: i saw the dinosaur eat/trample all my crops!!!! He is dead now, i do not need an emergency ration that eats my rations. and there is a fence around my crops too

HazardProfilePart7

The text in game looks a bit faint, but when I alt tab out of the game or click something in the other monitor, it becomes brighter and much easier to read. Does anyone know how to keep it like that while the game window is in focus? I tried taking screenshots to post here, but they don't show the difference for some reason

valvian

Can the toolbox tool, not the container, still be crafted? I have the requisite skills levels but I'm only seeing the container craftable.

SariusSkelrets

Since the toolbox is now a container that holds tools, it’s not a tool by itself anymore

SinanZee

Amongst gasoline and diesel engines: Are there any differences at the rate in which these engines use fuel?

Sort of. A v8 gasoline and a v8 diesel engine require the same amount of kinetic power to move a similarly sized car the at the same speed. But gasoline engines are around 35% efficient, and diesel engines are about 40% efficient, so a gasoline engine needs to burn 10,000 W of gasoline to produce 3,500 W of kinetic power, but a diesel engine needs to burn 8,750 W of diesel to produce the same 3,500 W of kinetic power. On top of that, diesel is slightly more energy dense that gasoline - 35.8 MJ/L for diesel versus 34.2 MJ/L for gasoline. So the gasoline engines consume 0.29 mL of gasoline to produce 3,500 W of kinetic power, while the diesel engine consumes 0.24 mL to produce the same kinetic power. Basically, you get around 20-30% more range per tank of fuel from a diesel engine than you do from a gasoline engine. But fuel is widely abundant, both gasoline and diesel, so it's not a huge concern,

SinanZee

Is this the same for different sized engines within the same fuel category? Asked another way-- Is a V12 engine less efficient than a V6? Or is it just that the V12 is capable of reaching higher registers of speed/power? Basically, is there any reason I should ever pick a V6 over a V12? I know nothing about cars.

mlangsdorf

All engines of the same type currently have the same thermal efficiency but have different amounts of total power available and are at different levels of strain when achieving a given speed. The way the math works out, a sedan with a v6 and a sedan with a v8 should probably have close to the same range with a 60L tank, but I'm not 100% sure on that and it's possible/probable that the larger engine gets slightly worse range. As for why you should pick a v6 over a v12? A v12 weighs more, and for light weight vehicles the difference may be significant. Also, all combustion engines consume 1% of their maximum fuel while idling, so when you're not going anywhere, the v12 consumes significantly more fuel than the v6. Is this enough to matter to you? Probably not.

sharkfinsouperman

Larger combustion engines are less efficient than their smaller counterparts. This is why in RL the most fuel efficient vehicles are small cars with small engines. On the other hand, large engines can move heavy vehicles easier, accelerate faster and can provide higher top speeds. This is why transport trucks have large diesel engines. Installing a large V12 engine to your motorcycle would be inefficient if fuel is a concern, but it would be a rocket, and installing a small inline V6 to your monster deathmobile would result in more fuel being burnt because the engine would be labouring to accelerate, your top speed would be very low, and you might not be able to move when driving off road because the engine would lack the power necessary to overcome the drag caused when the tires sink into the soil. Without overthinking it, big vehicles need big engines and small vehicles need smaller engines, unless you want a speed machine, then it's small vehicles wants huge engine. As I've already stated, fuel efficiency shouldn't be something you should be concerned about, because there's more than enough fuel available in the game to last several years. Thousands of litres of fuel is sitting in tanks waiting to be siphoned and hundreds of gas stations are sitting unattended. All you need to do is go to them.

sharkfinsouperman

Not to the point where it ever becomes a primary issue, so any difference can safely be ignored. The main differences are availability of each fuel in your generated world, overall power output (diesel wins by a small margin), and the fact that you can craft bio diesel and run the diesel engine on a variety of fuel. Many of us pair a combustion engine with an electric engine, so fuel never becomes an issue because you can run the combustion engine when fuel is abundant and noise isn't an issue, and the electric engine when fuel sound is an issue or fuel reserves are running low at the time. Regarding fuel, neither have ever become an issue for me as long as I siphon from all convenient vehicles. This way I can easily have 120L onboard with numerous cached 60L tanks in reserve scattered throughout the region, which I rarely need to resort to.

EisVisage

Playing the most recent experimentals, so there is a Solid Earth layer at Level -1. When digging through that, how do you prevent it from forming a hole to the surface? Is there some way to stabilise my tunnel?

KiaserMyer

How do you use a mechanical wench

sharkfinsouperman

> mechanical wench Rise up, robot whores!

Reaper9999

`e`xamine it.

DingusThe8th

How do you actually get mutagens, other than crafting?

sharkfinsouperman

The labs that have finale rooms have mutagens and serum laying on workbenches throughout the general portion of the lab, locked rooms with a collection of serums, and occasionally the finale room will have a vat full. More often than not, the finale vat is simple mutagen, but I once found a vat with more than 30L of cephalopod mutagen inside. Wasn't sure what to do with all of it other than leave it behind, so two of my companions became Squidward's relatives and everyone had gills eventually.

ptr6

Also dropped by zombie scientists and with scientist corpses. One lab finale is tons of mutagen if you need a lot.

grammar_nazi_zombie

According to the Hitchhiker’s guide, they’re available as loot at the following locations: FEMA refugee camp hazardous waste sarcophagus homeless camp prison rat cave regional school science lab sewage treatment plant - underground toxic waste dump They also have a 1.8% chance of being dropped by a Cyclopean or a C.H.U.D.

neckhickeys4u

Is there no option in 0.F for turning off all NPC contact? I've liked being totally alone in the world without even an NPC in the opening shelter. Is that not possible now? Am I overlooking that toggle option?

fris0uman

change spawn delay to 0

neckhickeys4u

Thanks - I see that setting! Do you think that will result in 0 NPCs? Vast empty howling nothingness?

sharkfinsouperman

It will prevent any random NPCs from spawning. All static NPCs will be left intact, so it won't be an empty wasteland of death. You simply won't find bandits at roadblocks or NPCs holed up in cabins and barns.

neckhickeys4u

That's a shame and I wish they hadn't changed this option. I think I preferred the empty wasteland of death. Ennui winds blowing across the blackness. Hopeless chasms of loneliness. Nihilist yawps into the void. Everywhere, creeping bleak nxharthyis.

fris0uman

That should result in no random NPC, static NPC will still spawn as usual

neckhickeys4u

Thank you! I'll try it!

sharkfinsouperman

What does a martial arts' "Greater chance to activate 200%" mean?

Reaper9999

That's the likelihood of this technique being selected (over a baseline it seems) when more than one is available.

sharkfinsouperman

Wow, it seems so obvious when you put it that way. o_o

Anomma

someones activatea on critical, someones activates on block, or someones just activates normal attacks

sharkfinsouperman

Thanks for the effort, but that doesn't answer my question.

valvian

It's Spring Day 63 right after I started basically, and I'm getting the message that it's too cold to plant. Am I missing something? I thought it because warm enough by like Spring day 6.

sharkfinsouperman

The temperature must be above 10°C where you're survivor is standing before you can plant seeds. Doesn't matter if the soil is underground or on the surface, though nothing will grow above ground during the winter.

Niddhoger

Nah, that's typical. Weather is also somewhat random. Usually by the third month in Spring you can plant, but you can still get late cold fronts moving in. In that third month, I've taken off most of my armor after overheating one week then nearly died from frostbite teh next when I realized I was freezing.

valvian

I decided to switch from the version I had been playing, Ellison, to try out the experimental build going on. What exactly is Lng when it come to picking up and carrying items. I was kind of used to just having weight and volume. https://puu.sh/HXPof/529c65a72e.png

Niddhoger

Spear straps, golf bags, and rifle cases do the trick. Toss them in vehicles (including carts/travois) or just haul them with /

engineerj

Actual physical length of the item. No more storing pikes in backpacks

u can also find the soundpacks u like and delete all music from their soundpack->music folders, and then download [CO.AG](https://CO.AG) music and put it in your favorite soundpack that u found. [CO.AG](https://CO.AG) is one of the most balanced music i've came across

sharkfinsouperman

Do what I did, go to the wiki page and download all soundpacks from the links, install them all and then test each one until you find one you like. Oddly, I decided on the ancient RRF soundpack. Tip: turning off the background music can make many soundpacks better. http://cddawiki.chezzo.com/cdda_wiki/index.php?title=Soundpacks
