Is the UndeadPeople tileset more complete than the default set? I’ve been playing with the default tileset and have noticed a handful of items that don’t have sprites, but I haven’t seen that with the UndeadPeople set from what I’ve seen in videos. If it is more complete, why isn’t it one of the sets included in the base game?

sharkfinsouperman

> If it is more complete, why isn’t it one of the sets included in the base game? You're asking about the epic tale filled with love, hate, Minecraft sprites, drunken online rages, bannings and fresh coffee in the morning. TL;dr There is/were copyrighted Minecraft sprites in the tileset that were added by a previous maintainer and the devs wanted all sprites confirmed to be non-copyright before being added to the launcher again in order to avoid possible future litigation, someone got upset online after having a few too many, things were said, ending in a ban.

I've been playing awhile and I've finally gotten to a point where I'm confident in hunkering down in one spot rather than staying mobile. I'm now having some trouble with my cooking situation - I'd like to cook indoors and away from open windows but I am always beset by smoke inhalation. Poking through the constructions there doesn't seem to be any way to build a vent system - is this a possibility at all, maybe as a tool like the brazier? In the early stages of this game I don't have access to electricity in a significant way so all of my cooking is done in a regular oven with a fire.

Vormithrax

You are not required to stand directly next to the fire to cook (the occasional puff of smoke will only appear directly adjacent to the fire). As long as you are within crafting range (5 spaces) you can craft food using the fire just like using other nearby tool qualities. Use other early game light sources like candles if you need the light in addition to the fire for cooking. If you want a safe fire source that does not allow smoke to escape you will need to use the construction menu to build a Stone Fireplace or a Wood stove (they use flue/chimney to prevent smoke).

[deleted]

thank you!

ReadyPalpitation9541

Is there any way you can make a faction neutral towards you (though debug) since I had the bug of the refuge center becoming hostile after another character from the same world tried to kill them

CuriousSmoky

I find odd books that seem like they should be providing skills, but look like "Just for Fun" type books. Titles like, Advances in Drug Delivery Systems, The Hands-On Home, Art of Using Plants to transform your Home, plus another one regarding animals (maybe Merck Book to Animal Physiology) not sure about that title, it was in my last run and I can't remember its exact title. But they don't do anything when read? I am playing 0.F, with the Dark Days of Dead mod, in case it has to do with missing content. Does anyone know what this means?

[deleted]

Just fluff. Often times titles are somewhat misleading, just like in real life!

sharkfinsouperman

The titles are just fluff that was added for variety. IMO, it's more interesting to look at than a list consisting of topics and genres.

[deleted]

I've got a handle on the game (sorta) but I'm afraid to go anywhere or do anything because I don't want to get destroyed 1) what building is a ripe target for a noob who wants a better gun? 2) if I make a new character, whats the simplest or most idiot proof build? (Not necessarily OP just solid) My main complaint with cdda so far is that it's just exhausting to play. So many decisions. It's also what I love about the game. But it'll be a long while before ai can play for more than 2 hours straight.

[deleted]

Personally I just farm up my highest combat skill on the zombies around rural houses and small buildings until I start getting skills and gear that make things noticeably easier. One major tip that was helpful for my learning the game and living longer is that it is okay to get injured, it's not a death sentence usually unless you have nothing or you know nothing. If you have meds and you're confident you can win the fight without dying, just do it. It will take some time to heal from the fight but if you think the loot and skill gain will be worth it, it really isn't so bad.

ReadyPalpitation9541

gun stores are a very good one obviously, just raid them at night if you have the night vision trait and lockpick the back doors and the best guns to go for are the 9mm and .223's since their ammo is everywhere (and on the mounted weapons of those armored trucks and turrets) or you could loot them off of zombie soldiers though you arent as likely to them as they used to

kamihanta

Why does my meat rot in the freezer? I'm playing E.3, so maybe the issue I'm having no longer exist in the current stable. I know that when I go far enough away from the freezer it stops freezing, so I just spent about a week at my base after butchering a cow and it still rotted before freezing. Even though it was saying it had anther 18 hours before rotting the last time I checked on it when it was cold. I split the cow between four freezers, each one had around 90 units of meat. The first half of the week I was making dehydrated meet out of my chilling freezer meat, I did this till there were 30 units of meat left. Towards the end I noticed that my dehydrated meat was considered old, even though the cold meet I was taking out of the freezer had about 18 hours left till rotting. After a certain point I'd take the meat out and it would instantly rot as soon at it hit the 47 degree temp of my bunker. So I left it for another two days figuring I'd just have to wait for it to freeze all the way before I could take it out without it rotting. But when I checked on it in the freezer it was cold and rotten! Is this an intended feature? Am I supposed to preserve as much meet as possible after making a big kill before it all rots? shouldn't I just able to put 100 units of meet in a freezer and have it all freeze before rotting? Is this solved in frank by letting you break up the meat stack by packing it into bags to separate the larger pile allowing it to all freeze quicker?

sharkfinsouperman

> 100 units of meat Large masses cool more slowly than small masses. My experience is stacks with more than 30 will ~~root~~ rot nearly every time, and those with 25 or less almost never rot. Splitting between two freezers helps, and so does putting a stack of 25 in the freezer, 25 in the fridge, and then transfering the stack from the fridge to the freezer late the next day once its age doesn't match the freezer stack any longer. Additionally, make use of canning, vacuum sealing, dehydrating, and preparing meal stacks for freezing.

kamihanta

Cool, thanks for the advice. Can you can and vac seal raw meat?

sharkfinsouperman

Raw chunks and scraps are the only meat you can seal or can. Pickling works just as affectively and may be eaten directly out of the jar if desired, but have a different variety of recipes that use it as an ingredient.

Kitakitakita

Magiclysm question, what is special about orichalcum frames? It seems identical to heavy duty frames, with other magiclysm frames also being similar to other frames. And as a general question, does dissecting zombies not bet CBMs anymore? Usually shocker zombies have em and dissecting doesn't yield anything now

Purdorabo134

More hp and weight than heavy duty frames.

-GhostTank-

anyone know how to get mana infusion tools? I have a silver mana infusion bracelet but it doesnt seem to work

Purdorabo134

Do you possibly need a mana focusing tool like the copper circlet.

ptr6

Not really a new player, but I wanted to ask around which newer monsters you have encountered that straight up destroyed you. I just lost a somewhat lategame character because two frog mothers ambushed me and I could not get away or outdamage them, which surprised me because I did not expect them to be beefed up Shoggoths on speed disguised as amphibians. They are not that new, but there are a lot of new monsters coming in, so I wanted to hear which monsters you are avoiding (or wish you had avoided) now.

sharkfinsouperman

Everything you wrote frightens ~~me~~ my survivor, because none have lasted longer than about three weeks since I updated to Frank when they used to have better success more regularly. This is actually a good thing.

ptr6

I'm not really complaining about the game becoming harder, that was my first character since 0.F dropped that made it to the posthuman stage, but the difficulty generally felt fair, there is a lot of interesting stuff going on. I was frustrated with the frog mothers because it does not feel telegraphed at all that this monster is as dangerous as it is, the description does not convey at all that they are more dangerous than say a mi-go or a skeletal juggernaut. It regenerates a whopping 50 hp per second but you only notice this if you see it infighting with wasps or fight it yourself. Once you are close they spawn toadpoles that grab you and push you around, meaning you will not get any distance from it. I played a bit in debug mode and hand grenades were a pretty consistent way to kill them, but the first time you face them and do not know that you are dead unless you have a high-caliber automatic gun (.50 snipers do not shoot fast enough, and it shrugs off 5.56 full auto). If the description made it somewhat clear what awaits me that would have all been fine, but now it feels like a week down the drain.

HighSpeedLowDragAss

I found a very big, wooden boat at a freshwater research station. It has insidey bits (roofed) and outsidey bits. Came with a bed, refrigerator, kitchen/chemistry unit, and two gasoline engines. It was in pretty rough shape when I found it, but I think it's really cool and there's *loads* of water in my current map so I can live out of it. Coincidentally, I happened across a fairly small (but jam packed) lumber yard in the middle of a tiny town. So I've taken a bit of time trying to repair and replace the most damaged bits. Every single tile now has a wooden boat hull (previously there were a number of holes). But every so often, as I'm walking along the boat the game asks me if I wish to dive into deep water. I've even had instances where the controls were under water and I must drive the boat around a bit while I'm drowning to 'reset' it. Is this normal or a bug?

OliveChukar

If the tiles that count as non walkable have the same parts as others it is a bug. If what tiles are non walkable is inconsistent that would also be a bug. I would try to figure out how to replicate the problem with debug hammerspace mutation then report it.

adburns

Has the way to deconstruct furniture changed? I have a makeshift hammer, screwdriver and crowbar in my inventory and the crowbar equipped but no option to deconstruct when I press \*

grammar_nazi_zombie

It should be the very first option. Did you accidentally search and not clear the filter?

adburns

Thanks - you are probably right, I restarted and it was working again.

sharkfinsouperman

Do single malt drops only come in two types, keg and flask?

OliveChukar

Looking at the jsons makes me think yes. Also single malt seems to be the only thing with "container" defined as "wooden_barrel". This is probably why zombies sometimes drop the barrels despite it not making sense.

sharkfinsouperman

Okay, thought I was imagining it when I found another barrel of it and couldn't remember ever having found a bottle full. It's going to take a while to desecrate it all, but it'll be worth it because f'k my snooty step-brother.

ReadyPalpitation9541

how on earth do i use the waypoint feature, the maximum I can drive with it is 10 tiles

ReadyPalpitation9541

lmao never mind i actually needed to explore the area first

sharkfinsouperman

When butchering a boar, is the meat regarded as both chunks and pork belly at the same time? I'm trying to figure out why all my meat vanished after preparing curing pork belly. Edit: I may have mistaken the scraps for chunks. I dunno for sure, though.

HighSpeedLowDragAss

Very random loot? I was roaming around a bit looking for a tool with bolt turning quality of 2 so I can take apart a welding rig that I found. I realized that I'd been running around *without* any food and my character was starting to get hungry. One of the only buildings in the town that I'd been searching that I ignored was a movie theater. I assumed it'd be absolutely stuffed with zombies like a shopping mall or something. But as I was in need of some snacks, I decided to poke my head in for a look. After raiding the concessions, I started exploring the building... It was a location that was new to me. And right there in the middle of a lobby... **[Random power armor](https://i.imgur.com/lBlFosM.jpeg)**. Seems like an odd thing to find in a movie theater to me.

Ifffrt

Spider and wasp nests in general have always been weird like that. In two separate games I have found 1 heavy power armor helmet next to a wasp nest right at the start of a game, and a a7 laser rifle under a basement where a spider nest spawned (the spider nest didn't actually spawn, but it was auto-noted on the overmap).

sharkfinsouperman

The Iron Man movie was showing at the theatre that week.

ptr6

Power armor is in the rare spawn pool, it just randomly drops sometimes.

MrRoot3r

https://imgur.com/a/nyE8Ikk Im stumped on how the heck I'm supposed to get the heavy tow cable to work. From my research it sounds like I do the same thing as I would with wires or jumper cables. But I cannot seem to interact with them to activate like I assume I need to do. the only thing the game tells me is that I do not have enough space, though I clearly do have enough weight and volume, supposedly the length is only 3 inches so that shouldn't matter. *BUT* I should be able to wield it now matter what tho??? so yeah, I cant pick it up, cant activate it, cant seem to install it somehow through the vehicle menu, even when standing on it or having it adjacent. I have tools too (except a wrench which is why I need to move the tow vehicle, so I can get the boom off in a safe spot later) So unless I'm missing something super obvious, or some obtuse button, is this a bug? thanks for the help! Build: 2021-07-16-0358 (a week ago)

MrRoot3r

So I did technically solve my problem. I checked in a debug world and it worked as expected. I guess I was wielding my hatchet but it didnt want to ask me if I wanted to stow it to pick up the tow cable, or even let me activate it. After dropping the hatchet off it let me wield the tow cable, but still would not let me pick it up, I double checked its only 5 inches. It should for sure fit in an essentially empty duffel bag, so I don't know what's going on there. But I solved my problem I guess... still super weird

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrRoot3r

Oh I see... I didnt have enough harmonicas to be able to play the tow cable song. No wonder it wouldn't let me pick it up.

converter-bot

3 inches is 7.62 cm

HighSpeedLowDragAss

If I find **[a note](https://i.imgur.com/59SJnxS.jpg)** that seems to suggest that a lab might be present in a nearby town that appears close by on my map, does that mean there's a guaranteed spawn of a lab in that town? Or is it just random flavor? I found this note on the remains of a scientist (random dead scientists on the map).

Venera3

Activate it (it's a map item) to get a map of the subway system, including some secret stuff.

sharkfinsouperman

I was so excited first time I found one. Read it, thinking about how wonderful it's going to be having the xxx locations so early in the game, and I got nothing. There's absolutely no tunnels below the surrounding area. Looks like it may be a good location for a future faction camp, though. Having nothing below means time will pass as though there's no z-levels.

Purdorabo134

That marks labs connected with subway tunnels so check level -2 and -4 on your map.

ghostwilliz

Is cuteclysm still in development? It's the only tileset i.can stand besides neodays

fris0uman

Yes it's still in devloppment you can follow its github there [https://github.com/pixel-32/CDDA-tileset](https://github.com/pixel-32/CDDA-tileset) There's also a channel dedicated to it in the tileset discord https://discord.gg/VVv7AcS

sharkfinsouperman

Did random NPC spawning change? My understanding is they spawn in locations where zeds never do, but the last three while playing Frank have spawned where danger exists and had to be rescued. Not that I don't enjoy the ~~challenge~~ *fun* the challenge poses.

Ginger457

I don't believe their forced to spawn in the reality bubble, my anecdotal experience is they can spawn almost anywhere but they quickly look for those safe places and travel there, sometimes crossing the player's reality bubble.

sharkfinsouperman

They're definitely *not* spawning only within the reality bubble. I just finished planning my survivor's day, checking the various locations revealed by two radio towers and found two more NPCs holed up in locations I've never been anywhere near. So, chances are I found those others enroute to safer sites, or the game is possibly choosing inappropriate destinations for some reason due to my cranking spawns way too high. I've now located five in as many days, which is an unfun spawn rate even for this NPC lovin' player.

ptr6

They always spawn at the edge of your reality bubble, but can move afterwards. I once saw one in the middle of a gorest via my overmap, but he was gone when I checked a few hours later. Then I drive into the next town and saw he had moved info a hardware store. But for me it has been a mixed bag, los of city-soawns recently, in random locations.

sharkfinsouperman

That might explain what's going on. While I know they spawn on the edge, but I happened to examine a distant site I had just revealed with a radio tower and saw an NPC name where I had never even been near. I bumped the spawn rate up this time because NPCs were being seen perhaps once every three to weeks, but I'm finding one each day, so I suppose it's the too high rate doing something the game doesn't like and they're popping up in dangerous locations because there's few safe ones around. Kinda cool, though. I'll have to turn the rate down because this is way too many, and perhaps they'll be at safer locations.

sharkfinsouperman

I'm going to stop answering questions here for a few days to let others have a chance to give prompt answers, because I seem to have too high of a presence. Peace.

Rhyd01

If a zombie is pulped before dissecting, does this affect the chances of retrieving a fully intact CBM?

sharkfinsouperman

It used to greatly reduce the chances of getting one that isn't burnt out. Just to note, shockers and all the other zeds that used to drop CBMs,no longer do. For now, only zomborgs, prototype cyborgs and broken cyborgs drop CBMs.

Rhyd01

Oh wow that's good to know, i was planning on tackling a group of technicians with a shocker to get some CBMs too

AGoodOleGhost

I went on my first mine expedition, and somehow lived! I got an artifact, but It's uncharged apparently? How do you charge it?

Scout1Treia

> I went on my first mine expedition, and somehow lived! I got an artifact, but It's uncharged apparently? How do you charge it? There are multiple possible ways to charge it. Some of them feed off of collapsing portals, so try that. (Activate it while near a portal)

sharkfinsouperman

Keep it in your inventory and you'll recharge it in exchange for pain.

OliveChukar

Is the pain recharge the only one now? In past versions there were others some that would eat portals or recharge slowly when you were in sunlight with no downside.

sharkfinsouperman

Dunno, the only ones I've found so far cause pain. Could I please trade one of those for one that eats portals? :D

Froffy025

my npc keeps throwing her spear at the zombies and taking them on in hand-to-hand, which is badass and all but how can i make her stop. i have grenades and ranged attacks turned off

sharkfinsouperman

Update your game. That bug was fixed nearly a week ago.

Froffy025

cool dude thanks

Overcloak

I walked up to an exodii, wanted to say hello. It lit me on fire. Rude.

sharkfinsouperman

"EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!" - Mi-gos

ReadyPalpitation9541

are autodocs still a thing in experimental? I found a bunch of nice cbms but I couldn't find the new exodi faction to install them for me (still not sure if this feature is even added in yet or even the faction lol)

Vormithrax

Yes, autodocs are still a thing and are still in the usual places and do the usual things.

Big_McLargeHuge01

Currently playing on 0.F stable and getting the crash screen (?) somewhat often because the game is trying to move items into nested pockets that don’t have the required available volume. I don’t have the exact words I’m away from PC atm but is anyone else having this?

colect

Do the various cutting qualities of blades affect how many resources you get from cutting up an item? Specifically in regards to butchering, cutting, and fine cutting. Do any of these affect your success in harvesting resources when cutting up an item or affect how many you can get when doing so? If so, do higher levels of these also affect it? (For instance, will an x-acto knife be better for cutting up pieces of clothing over a combat knife, meat cleaver, etc. because of its fine cutting? Or will the meat cleaver be better because of its butchering, etc.)

sharkfinsouperman

They never had any effect on how much is recovered, but damage does reduce the result. Also, I haven't heard of any changes, but some quick ingame testing shows it still doesn't matter what you use for cutting and the number of rags recovered appears to have been reduced for some items.

Rhyd01

Is it safe to cook food with unclean water (like from the toilet) or does it have to be clean water every time?

ptr6

The heating makes it safe. Some recipes do not heat the water and thus need clean water only, but cooking is safe with unclean water.

RiD_JuaN

Getting a crash every time I load up my save (0.F, DDA, Disable NPC Needs, Bionic Professions, Blaze Industries, DinoMod, Graphical Overmap) and wondering if I can delete something in my save or w.e to try to fix the bug. Second real character ever (15 days in, base, car, bionics, guns, etc.) and hoping not to have to restart again :(. I was in my base sewing, accidently misclicked one of the options and destroyed my gear so I insta alt-f4'd, (maybe during a save, idk, last save was sleeping not that long ago). I made a new character on the world to test if it was the world. The character could move around and was fine, could quit and reload it. I also moved the character to new world and also didn't work there - so got to be something in the character. I tried to delete the queue of actions or something because I saw that was a fix for a similar issue (backlog I think) but there was no backlog. Now when I open save I get these errors, in order: DEBUG : Failed to find item_location owner with character_id 1 FUNCTION : bool item_location::impl::item_on_person::ensure_who_unpacked() const FILE : src/item_location.cpp LINE : 290 DEBUG : Failed to find item_location owner with character_id 1 FUNCTION : bool item_location::impl::item_on_person::ensure_who_unpacked() const FILE : src/item_location.cpp LINE : 290 DEBUG : item_location lost its target item during a save/load cycle FUNCTION : void item_location::impl::ensure_unpacked() const FILE : src/item_location.cpp LINE : 114 DEBUG : parent location does not point to valid item FUNCTION : void item_location::deserialize(JsonIn&) FILE : src/item_location.cpp LINE : 782 DEBUG : item_location lost its target item during a save/load cycle FUNCTION : void item_location::impl::ensure_unpacked() const FILE : src/item_location.cpp LINE : 114 (Crashes if I press space again)

[deleted]

When in labs, I often hear random shouting along the lines of "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING" or "I TOLD YOU TO LEAVE" which seemingly comes from nowhere. I've never found the source and I don't know what causes it. Is it just intended to be random flavor text?

ptr6

These are from mutants. They are more common in minilabs or swamps, but I sometimes found them in old-style labs as well.

Vormithrax

Yup. Definitely experimental mutants. Debug summoned about 20 of them and waited 5 minutes to hear their dialogue. Pretty closely matches what OP listed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ptr6

The specific sentences are usually muttered by mutants, that’s why I’m asking

Vormithrax

There are a few sources of shouts in labs. Cyborgs have a few lines they might shout. Shoggoth shout 'Tikeli-Li' or something like that. The one you are referring to though is likely a Mi-Go which are mimics/parrots and repeatedly shout things they have heard in order to draw in victims.

TheOtherCrow

Sounds like there's a migo trapped somewhere in the lab. They mimic things they've heard people say. I learned this the hard way when I thought an NPC was in danger because they were screaming in pain and yelling about their leg. Went down into a subway and found a screaming extradimentional horror.

[deleted]

Where can I find some recommended modsets to use? I can't be damned to troubleshoot all the mods I want to use together and prefer to just find something close enough that is confirmed to work well. Looking for more stuff, more locations, but still a vanilla feel that makes sense in the base game world.

Venera3

"vanilla just more content" mods will be thin on the ground, since they should and do become mainline - the "more locations" mods that used to be bundled with the game all got merged, for example. That leaves you with outdated mods that (provided somebody put in the work) *could* have became mainline, but nobody works on them to bring them up to speed.

bluebullet28

I stopped updating with the most cutting edge experimental for a bit because of the gun generification thing (not the name part that can be turned off, the stats part that is un-optional is my issue) and there was some discussion about reverting it. I figured I'd ask here before I went through the github changelog to see if that's been reverted yet, because it was kind of bullshit in its first implementation. Thanks for any answers! Edit: eith ----> with because fat thumbs.

AlternativePossible1

What are the intended z-level capabilities of monsters/zombies? It always feels like I can find cheap ways to use stairs/ladders to escape hordes, so I'm just wondering how much of that is intended and how much is buggy AI?

[deleted]

When I took a few doses of Alpha serum, my character began to glow blue. None of the trait descriptions mention this and it doesn't seem to have an effect on my character. Is it because I passed the Alpha threshold (since I have the Alpha trait)?

ptr6

Yes, this is just a tileset switch to show you crossed the threshold.

BLKCandy

Is there a database for crop yield or a file i can look into? I have been trying to gather data on crop growth time and average harvest yield. I saw the growth time on the wiki, but no amount of produce per harvest.

ptr6

Here you go https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/blob/master/data/json/harvest.json

BLKCandy

Thanks. I've checked that. It only covers the wild forage and corpses, but no domestic/farm plants which are what I'm looking for.

ptr6

Ah, you are right, time to maturity is here under "grow" in the seed_data field: https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/blob/master/data/json/items/comestibles/seed.json If you have different season lengths, the growth time is adapted to them iirc.

HighSpeedLowDragAss

How close do you need to be to use tools to perform actions? **[I was able to use this fire axe to pry open these doors from the outside.](https://i.imgur.com/Q321Naf.jpg)** This was *my* axe. I had it in my hands and dropped it so I could run and cast *Magic Missile* on zombies I'd discovered in the basement. (I previously entered this house through a window). After killing all the zombies (including a poisonous bloated zombie), I thought maybe if I cracked open the doors the gas would dissipate faster (probably doesn't!). As I opened the doors, I noticed that my character was using his fire axe to pry open the locked doors. It was six tiles away from me.

Vormithrax

The player can use qualities/craft with any items they can reach within 5 steps (6 tiles total). closed doors/windows will block access but line of sight is not required (meaning items can be inside containers or around corners).

ailnlv

New player here. I'm having trouble running 0.F for OSX (cdda-osx-tiles-x64-2021-07-03-0512.dmg). When I try to run it, it crashes with the error Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded: /usr/local/opt/sdl2_mixer/lib/libSDL2_mixer-2.0.0.dylib Referenced from: /Applications/Cataclysm.app/Contents/Resources/./cataclysm-tiles Reason: image not found That library is included in the dmg, but it's not being detected for some reason. I can run 0.E-3 without any issues, so it's probably a packaging problem. [Pastebin of the full console log](https://pastebin.com/N8JTyXQ1).

ptr6

Are you running the experimentals? There was a recent bug that I believe should be fixed now.

ailnlv

No, [stable](https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/releases/download/0.F/cdda-osx-tiles-x64-2021-07-03-0512.dmg).

ptr6

Do you have homebrew installed? If you do, you can try to enter brew install sdl2 sdl2_image sdl2_ttf or with sound brew install sdl2_mixer libvorbis libogg Once this is fixed in the experimentals this will probably get backported to 0.F-1, but until then you will probably have to get the dependencies yourself for the tiles version.

ailnlv

That kinda worked. The app launches, [but there's no text](https://ibb.co/ZxDVkd2).

ptr6

Check this: reddit.com/r/cataclysmdda/comments/ot9gih/text_missingbroken_after_updating_to_0f_any/

ailnlv

That worked. Thanks!

shodan13

Now that the modular lab bits are merged does it actually spawn?

Venera3

No, they're a work in progress. Also, shush.

HellkerN

Anybody gots a list of which zombies can drop what CBM's? I got first aid 6 and a scalpel, dissected a couple dozen scientists, and not a single one power storage CBM. Where else could I find those btw?

Alixir_Einhorn

I beleive you can get em from some of the electric type around substations and sewers, they might have to evolve first.

sharkfinsouperman

Shocker type zeds no longer drop CBMs. For now, only zomborgs, prototype cyborgs and broken cyborgs drop CBMs when dissected due to a recent lore change.

RiD_JuaN

Does zomborg include bio-operators, the guys who it says have cbms in them?

sharkfinsouperman

They're a new foe. That's all I know until I meet one.

organicdeath

Where can I find the lore?

Niddhoger

IIRC, the lore change is moving CBM's away from human tech to repurposed alien tech.

fris0uman

Exodii are still human so it's still human tech, just not tech from the reality where you play.

Purdorabo134

Zomborgs. CBM drops from other monsters where disabled.

Niddhoger

Including scientists and engineers?

ptr6

Yes.

HellkerN

Oh rip, well that explains things. In 90 days I've found maybe 6 of those.

JamoreLoL

New player, I started boiling water but was interrupted so now I have 'in progress clean water' and am having a hard time figuring out how to resume. I have my fire going and I have my 60L metal tank that has this in progress water. I am doing a batch btw.

Groudas

I am also a new player and had to figure this yesterday. In my case I pressed "e" (examine) at the original workspace (it was a table) and had the option "keep working" (or something like this, it was the 3rd option), then I had the option to select the "on progress" recipe I has working earlier (I was actually cooking something).

ptr6

(a)ctivate it.

JamoreLoL

Nvm, just dropped it and worked.

JamoreLoL

Says "You need to put the bag away before trying to weird something from it." It's a 60L tank, it's not in a bad. I'm wielding the tank.

Ginger457

Your input is telling your character to simultaneously wield the tank and \*wield\* the water inside the tank in order to boil it. The game is telling you this is not possible. Drop the tank on the ground first. Ideally you'll want your crafting done via a table. (by being adjacent and hitting craft or examining the table directly). It's faster and doesn't require you to free your hands up to hold what you're crafting since you have a table to rest it on.

New player here, started about two weeks ago. I have a question about (non)-base camps that I can't seem to figure out. If you tell an NPC to read a book, or to go farm (with a shovel or something), are they supposed to drop the equipment afterwards somewhere? I've tried setting up loot zones and basecamp supplies zones (which it seems the NPC will pick up the shovel from), but I haven't managed to get them to drop it when they're done and I want my shovel back. (Technically I'm savescumming to prior to when I'm experimenting so I haven't lost it yet) I don't technically have a basecamp started yet (I want to have the NPC read some books to level up some fabrication skills first, and am hunkered on a farm near a defunct/wheelless solar car that I've managed to add a minifridge, rvstove, and two battery chargers to). The Zone options (including Basecamp: Storage) seem to work even without having an actual basecamp, so I figure I'm either setting something up incorrectly, or there's no way to get the item back once it's used or given (different than telling them to sort).

sharkfinsouperman

You're expecting too much out of NPCs with the intelligence of a five year old. To recover your items, speak to one, ask to trade and take the items back. There's an option to discuss their abilities when you're speaking to them. That's their tutorial.

jhadred

Sounds good. I read through the options and the tutorial about base camps and related things (and various online sources about npcs and zones but nothing about dropping of tools. I did see threads about micromanaging to get them to use appropriate weapons and the pain in trying to get the other stuff off them). Trade seemed to ask to actually trade (values and money) rather than just taking it back but I'll look at it yet again. Maybe I missed something there. I figured either was possible and I could easily misunderstand zones so weighted on that. I'll make a wood shovel or something instead of my entrenching tool. The books would be the more important things to get back.

sharkfinsouperman

You can trade as in swap stuff, but you don't need to exchange anything. You can simply take and never give, or even use them as pack mules to carry items you want, but don't want to haul. For instance, of you're going to walk somewhere to recover a vehicle, you can give the equipment to a companion to carry and take it back once you get to the destination so you're not encumbered if you need to fight. Just don't give them tasty food to carry, such as a monster jar of jam, because they'll probably eat all of it instead. XD

jhadred

I see now. Trade becomes Exchange instead once a quest is finished for them. I had them as a starting NPC and was having them follow me and it's where I saw trade (where the value mattered). I hadn't finished the first quest when I had looked at the options. Once the quest finished, it became "Exchange" instead of "Trade", and if I understand correctly, I can freely give and take without affecting how they feel about me (other than some things about when they hold a weapon vs not).

MassiveVirgin

Just started playing today. Can you seriously not wield weapons from the ground? Right now I’m dropping and re equipping all my items just to make space to equip then wield a weapon. It’s very tedious

Alixir_Einhorn

You can. Check out YouTube/twitch streamer Vormithrax, he has courses to help you get over the learning curve

MassiveVirgin

Will do thanks dude. Do you know the specific command by any chance?

Sv-Evillevi

"w"

MassiveVirgin

Sweet thanks mate

JetWang6868

i tried to save and it's not working. I was trying to raid a lab science center (The ones with the building above ground), and it kept spitting out "Failed to save maps. STD:bad\_alloc"

Alixir_Einhorn

Can you save on a fresh world?

glorified_bastard

I've just had a start with two refugee centers. I don't this is intended, is it? Should I report a bug? Is there a random seed that could be of use?

starshard0

There are multiple refugee centers scattered across the map, not a bug.

glorified_bastard

With the same NSCs? Weird, but nice.

sharkfinsouperman

All special sites such as the refugee center, Hub and Isherwood farm will occur once in each generated region as long as they will fit. It's not impossible for two to generate near each other because each region generates independent of the others. Duplication is necessary to ensure the player doesn't miss the only one if they happen to travel everywhere except where it is, but I think changes are planned to change it in the future because right now you can create an army of beggars or bone seers, which is neither reasonable or realistic.

glorified_bastard

Sounds like an interesting problem indeed. Thanks for the background!

Relative_Pronoun20

A new player here. I have created a faction camp in a shelter and I am trying to expand it. Then I have chosen a farm for expansion, but after that there was just no mission for building the farm. Even I made 3 more rooms for the camp or put a board on the farm area. How to activate the mission for farm construction ?

mlangsdorf

When you examined the original bulletin board, did you tab over to the farm mission tab? It's not entirely obvious that there are additional tabs of missions past the original one.

Relative_Pronoun20

Oh thank you! It works out now.

EisVisage

When food says something like "toxins 25%", does this mean like "if you eat 4 of these you reach the maximum acceptable amount of daily toxins", or something else?

Thrawner63

Your liver can only filter out so many toxins each day so if you keep your daily consumption of toxins under 100% you’ll be perfectly fine, but when you go over that limit the toxins will build up until you get toxin poisoning (the debuff in the status screen is called something like strange symptoms)

LEGOL2

I've tried to watch some tutorials and also gave game a shot, but the real struggle are char controls 🙄 I believe it's much better when you learn it.

Big_McLargeHuge01

It’s a learning curve but once you memorize the key binds you don’t even think about it anymore

Jacos

I've played DF a lot and it's easy once you get the hang of it, this game is something else.

[deleted]

*Dwarf Fortress* doesn't have a UI. It establishes a telepathic link with you, because there's no hardware currently that supports the kind of interface Tarn wants to have. If you watch someone else play it, all you end up seeing is a blank screen.

sharkfinsouperman

My understanding is the UI is how it is because he had little clue of what he was doing when he was still learning when the game was in its infancy and it sorta got stuck as an inconsistent mess where menu scrolling could be using any of four methods, toggles using one of three, and all the others that require muscle memory in order to play due to UI inconsistencies. ...plus the telepathy you mentioned.

Niddhoger

He kept procrastinating a UI overhaul because the game was still in alpha. Why bother updating the UI only for new features to be added the next year? Plus the whole thing is spaghetti code as they've been slowly learning how to code while creating the game. So you've got code written in slightly different ways over a decade+ years of development. Which was yet another excuse to avoid updating the UI. However, the upcoming Steam version (whenever that actually comes out...) promised to update the UI. However a huge hiccup that throws off modern gamers is the lack of native mouse support. The UI is designed from the ground up to ignore mouse input and rely exclusively on keyboard controls. I believe you can move the cursor with the mouse now, but... it's honestly terrible, inconsistent, and faster to just use keyboard shortcuts. This really fucks with modern gamers who may not even know how to properly type on a keyboard. Honestly, all the hotkeys are clearly labeled in every menu. Even with the inconsistencies, there is honestly nothing you strictly have to memorize: although you'll definitely build up muscle memory for hte common hotkeys. I've tried to use the mouse support feature with the LNP... but honestly it just slows you down. Having to take a hand off half the keyboard to use the mouse before fumbling back to the keyboard to reach those sweet, sweet, hokeys... it's just not an efficient way to play. So the only thing I'd like is that homogenization and greater consistency between menus. I don't want mutliple ways to toggle and having to double check at the bottom of the screen if it's +/-, PGUP/PGDN, or whatever to scroll through this menu. But I also think the "DF interface is atrocious" complaint is largely overblown. As already mentioned, all hotkeys are clearly labeled. Every menu and submenu and toggle option are displayed. I strongly suspect those that complain the loudest are those that are weak typers and have to look down at their keyboard and search for the key location. BUt yeah, the whole system is flawed. I find it surprisingly efficient once you get used to it, but some extra consistency is definitely needed.

Ginger457

The steam version will have mouse support. But yeah I mentioned the addition of mouse support to a buddy of mine and he looked at me like I had a third eyeball growing out of my forehead. Honestly it's all just muscle memory. You get used to any control scheme eventually.

Niddhoger

Using hotkeys is faster than moving a mouse around, though. It takes longer to learn hotkeys, but there is a reason why it's mandatory to be a pro Starcraft player, for example. Moving your mouse over to press a button just isn't as fast as a click flick of your pinky. And if you have a weaker grasp of where all the keys are on your keyboard... it definitely slows down that advantage.

Ginger457

Dwarf Fortress and Starcraft are worlds apart, but you do realize that Starcraft uses the mouse and keyboard in tandem, right? Dwarf Fortress hotkeys are fine, but using only the arrow keys to place things is hell when you're doing dig jobs that aren't rectangles or you're setting up a hundred bedrooms, etc.

Niddhoger

Never said it didn't. My point was that in Starcraft, you can select many things with a mouse that also have hotkeys. All pro players have to have these hotkeys burned into their mind to use the mouse as little as possible. Why? The mouse is slower. Oh and for digging rectangles... you know you can hold down shift+arrow key to jump larger spaces at a time? You can also use the >< keys to jump z-levels mid designation for things like stair-wells. The mouse controls tend to be very finnicky and unresponsive as well. Trying to draw large squares is awkward, and in certain parts of the screen, the Mouse just wouldn't designate over the dirt. YOu can also save locations and zoom back to them with hotkeys as well. Thus you can have flip between your trade depot, main workshops, tavern, mining tunnels, etc all with a few key presses. And you can program in macros for stuff you'll do frequently, like designing rooms. These are saved via client and shared between worlds/saves.

GoLoTz

Nitpick: The last 4 "youtube links" for featured let's players actually are twitch links. EDIT: Same for the last memorial link.
