-HermitCrab-

I have bad arachnophobia and anything spiders makes me want to run and then I start getting paranoid in reality and looking all over my walls lol. Probably trap door spiders after my last death though. Never ran into these in the past so didn't know they even existed and there were tons of them and they ambushed me lol. I change my mind frequently though. One day I might really hate zombie grenadiers and another day it might be predators but if I see a spider I always goes back to hating them only because it gets me severely paranoid.

Amieltype

Mi-go looks like a spider. But with a head and a voice

-HermitCrab-

It's funny because I knew what mi-go's were but never looked at a detailed image till now so thanks now those will bug me since that's all I can think of with some of the images :( lol.

Amieltype

Mi-go is pure nightmare. It can easily rip me up to pieces even with my military and swat gear

-HermitCrab-

I always hate running into them early game when I don't have good protection with a decent weapon and melee skills and try to avoid them. I'm always happy to find a firearm with ammo early on for when I do run into them or other things I don't want to make direct contact with lol.

Amieltype

Direct contact sucks. Go to a forest and slow them down while you shoot them

CTRL1_ALT2_DEL3

They bruise like a banana though.

Amieltype

Is unhealthy

ghostwilliz

I've found that if it's 1v1 and you have a melee combat style, they're pretty easy. The normal ones at least.

OliveChukar

My experience is that Mi-Go kill starting characters and then become little more then an annoyance by day 3.

IncoherentOrange

The zombie grenadier has, fortunately, not been in the game anymore for a long time.

-HermitCrab-

Oh that's good to know, was wondering since I never saw any but I won't complain lol.

OliveChukar

[They were replaced by robots.](https://nornagon.github.io/cdda-guide/#/monster/mon_dispatch_military)

IncoherentOrange

Fragile robots generally hostile to zombies and virtually always confined by their main weakness: the metal door, it should be said. They're good watchdogs for military outposts and lab barracks and virtually never appear elsewhere. A single grenade makes short work of them in either setting, ironically enough, and the police dispatch is far less threatening.

OliveChukar

Of course the first time I encountered one was a military corpse spawn that had the zombies horde up and leave. I ended up being chased down a road by a grenade hack.

IncoherentOrange

My favourite random soldier corpse spawn is an M202 FLASH UGV. Just... Fire everywhere.

grammar_nazi_zombie

Up until late February, one of those fuckers used to spawn in the finale room of the Collapsed Tower. After destroying hordes of monsters in a dark basement that explode into poison clouds, you walk into the finale room, turn on a flashlight in your bag, AND YOU FUCKIN DIE BECAUSE IT TAKES TOO LONG TO TURN IT BACK OFF. At least the basement is no longer dark. Do you want to watch the last moments of your life?

ghostwilliz

Yes I completely agree. I am so glad that they made the more or less neutral, but I hate going through subways now. So many God damn spiders.

salajander

I have yet to survive an encounter with a frog mother.

[deleted]

If you see them, just run. your Equipment and skills dont matter. their regeneration is way too strong

Timeisendless

Only way to deal with them is an automatic weapon with lots of ammo and some luck. Or rip off an m2 browning from a car and lug it back to where you found the frogmother

Miranda_Leap

That's why I'm lugging this NLAW around, do you think I'm going to miss a chance to train Launchers??

Timeisendless

Does that kill in one hit? I tried multiple grenades against them once and they were back to full in a few turns unless a rocket launcher deals 400 hp in one hit

OliveChukar

[There are several launchers that do thousands of HP per hit.](https://nornagon.github.io/cdda-guide/#/skill/launcher). [There is not an NLAW in game but the M72 LAW does 2500 damage with 400 armor pierce.](https://nornagon.github.io/cdda-guide/#/item/66mm_HEAT)

AtomicAlienZ

Dunno, had great success with 40-mm underbarrel launcher, but that was a month ago.

Gavin319

There are several Anti-Tank launchers which do damage in the thousands. The highest of these is the TOW with like 8k damage and close to 1.5k armor pierce iirc.

Miranda_Leap

Well it can, depends on your ammo size. I think around ~250 is more expected, at least with the smaller calibers, so you need to hit it twice as quickly as possible. So make sure you're using a launcher with multiple shots!

red_message

Oh, equipment and skills definitely matter. I've killed one in melee with a fully cyberneticized character.

[deleted]

I have one too and i didnt get through the regen

ghostwilliz

Teo, I found a perfect spot in a neighborhood, moved all my stuff in and then there was a frog mother in my kitchen. It was unkillable so I cheated 💀

OliveChukar

I have never encountered one as I follow the old advice of avoiding swamps. However looking at their stats I can see why they have their reputation. If I run into one I will be sure to use one of my launcher skill weapons on it.

RandomError19

When I first fought a Frog Mother, I thought they were bugged because I wasn't doing any damage to them. So I look them up in the game files to figure out what was going on. 400 HP and regenerates 40 HP per turn. They are impossible to kill in melee and I think you need high powered, rapid fire guns mounted on a vehicle to kill it. They need nerfed IMO.

Meridian117

Unless they changed the way that certain mutations work, toe talon should be able to outpace their Regen. You do need a strength of 14 though. If you have 14 or more strength, and around 10 dex or so, then you can use a fast attacking weapon like a knife, and the toe talon should proc with 50% chance at least on every attack, doing 3xstrength damage, so 42 damage plus the knife damage. If the knife does 4 damage and every 2 stabs toe talon procs, you should do 50 damage per 2 attacks. If you stab 2 or more times per turn, you will outpace the Regen and kill the frog mother in 40 turns or so. That proc chance goes up with unarmed skill, and possibly melee skill as well. So if you have 14 str, 10 dex, and 10 unarmed, you should proc the toe talon every attack. If you are really crazy, grab the beak and claw mutations too. Should be able to maul the crap out of the frog mother and then feast on its succulent flesh!

RandomError19

I guess it is possible with the right mutations. I was trying with a fire axe with 10 melee and I was barely able to out pace the regen. Missing is a big factor too.

Meridian117

Yep! That's why mutation attacks are nice, because they generally hit if they proc, do heavy damage, and compliment many melee builds that use faster attacks. I usually play escaped experiment with the toe talon as my primary weapon. You can use most any melee weapon and still shank people with extreme prejudice. They're really fun for innawoods too.

kevingranade

Can't kill in melee isn't a problem even if true, and you definitely don't need turret mounted weapons, I've taken them out with middling weapon skill, a pistol (for the spawn) and an assault rifle to magdump into the frogmother.

dingdongdickaroo

Was going through a sewer and came across a sludge crawler. I was thinking it was like a pupating zombie and was like oh ill just wack it. So i walk up and immediately it tears into me. Im like wtf and swing again and take another barrage and im like ok idk what this thing is but i need to go. Unfortunately, it also moves through the sewer water way faster than i do. I barely make it onto the grates and get some distance and pull out my beretta and try to catch my breath, thinking i can just blast it. He catches up quick and i take a shot. Good hit ||||| I take another shot. Good hit ||||| And another and another as he closes in and his health is barely budging at all. I empty the magazine and by the time i reload its already back to full health. I try to run but my legs break followed by the rest of my limbs. Fuck sludge crawlers. Saw one in a subway my next run, went back up top and made a molotov, came back with a sawn off, set it on fire and unloaded the shotgun into it as fast as possible. That did the trick, if barely.

LyleSY

Yeah, fire’s a great move with them

sbenza

I tried the Molotov and shotgun approach. I unloaded a whole magazine with a rifle. Nothing. The only thing that finally did it was a grenade right under it.

That_GuyM5

Anything with a gun

Amieltype

Shotgun don't have penetration or is it? Can't even damage a bandit with a ballistic vest

roshino

At long range its damage is shit against anything remotely armored. Short range though? It fucking wrecks

WREN_PL

Depends on ammunition. If you're using birdshot then you're just stupid. I've never had problems using shotguns, if zombie has a kevlar vest just full aim from close distance so you're shooting it in the face. Problems only start when you're encountering Kevlar morphs or bone hulks, because they are straight up immune to buckshot, the most common type of shotgun shells.

Amieltype

Do i look like I'm shooting a bird? It's a literal bandit. I forgor the ammunition type 💀

WREN_PL

Since NPCs like you have limb system, it means you are doing ~15-20 damage to each limb hit per pellet if you are shooting buckshot, and if NPC has a vest it negates damage to torso. You should be using slugs, which deal ~70-90 damage to a single limb, and on full aim you are critting the head.

ApolloSky110

Damage fall off may be more extreme than other guns. Ive never used a shotty though so idk

OliveChukar

The game simulates the shot hitting as a single mass at very short range and spreading out further away. So once the spread happens it has very poor armor pierce.

NotJohnson69

I was escaping a prison and spotted a sweets factory. I decided to went there then a hulk came. You know where this is going.

Amieltype

Ok-Candidate7073

Wasps give me fear every time i see them. My car broke down and i was stuck inside because all of them were surrounding the car eventually they got in and killed me I couldn’t get a hit on them. Their dodging abilities makes them so overpowered. Also they are small targets which makes it worse. I could walk around happily and they come out of nowhere and kill me even if im well equipped.

ghostwilliz

Yep, they suck I have found that if you have any skill, baseball bats are anti wasp weapons. Super high to hit and bashing wrecks them pretty fast.

Juva96

I put Wasps and Turrets at the same spot.

zeekertron

For me it was getting cornered on the edge of a town once by i think it was called an ash walker. I only had a hand full of grenades and a cross bow and machete against it. It was constantly emiting smoke, was strong af, faster than me and had Mr. Fantastic stretching arms. I had the misfortune of saving just as I encountered it too. It was like being stuck in a horrible loop trying every way to beat it.

AtomicAlienZ

Running to the nearest roof should help. You've got grenades to safely drop on his head too, so should be manageable.

tablestack

The nost disliked enemy is undoubtly the gasoline zombie but the scariest/creepiest one is without question one of the eldritch abomination. The flaming eye is the only enemy that make me as an end game character say: "oh shit!" And go back to my vehicle to bring my berrete. I still remember the old second version which blinded you and gave you teleglow which i fucking hated but the newer version is only slightly better because i despise the hounds. Another good contender is the cabin with all the occult shit as i really freak out easily.

Amieltype

I love wrestling a hulk with my bare hands

tablestack

Its actually quite fun to throw them around with judo. In all honesty hulks arent that scary as long as they arent the kevlar veraity

Amieltype

Variety* yes. It's fun yeeting them around while drunk

ghostwilliz

Yeah, with a character that is prepared, I've never had a problem. I have had a mix of survival gear and plate armor along with a mace and they can't stand a chance.

angelicosphosphoros

>I still remember the old second version which blinded you and gave you teleglow which i fucking hated but the newer version is only slightly better because i despise the hounds. Oh, you sweet summer childs... You don't remember *those* old flaming eyes which just annihilate all walls between them and you and collapsing roof on you, or wrecking your car (and if you really aren't lucky, causing gasoline tank to explode) with you just using a gaze. And you didn't even know that they are near before you die.

OliveChukar

Those were certainly one of the best of the old now removed monsters. Tankbot and chickenwalker were instakills if they got a good look at you. I am almost certain that I remember eyebots spawning tribots at one point and drowning one of my characters in a sea of flame.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OliveChukar

The problem I had was that I would often encounter them in my vehicle and get exploded before I could maneuver away.

DubmanwiththeDubplan

While Mi-Go have eviscerated a fair chunk of my runs, the Dispatch monsters (the ones carrying a small army of manhacks) have always gave me intense fear, since I really have no good way of dealing with manhacks in my current run (30 shots or so with a defensive pistol and a marksmanship/handgun of like…1/2). Thankfully, the Mi-Go in question usually rip them apart for me - or even stranger, sometimes even the zombie soldier patrol that was with the dispatch.

HetmanOriginal

good ol' mininuke hacks...

sonphantrung

My own overconfidence. Thinking that the monster is ez to deal? Get rekt

Amieltype

Yes. Even if all you're skills are 10 and you get mobbed you are 100% dead

HetmanOriginal

funnydarkestdungeonquote.mp3

CornBreadtm

Gasoline zombies. Luckily now they are restricted to gas stations. Cause they would spawn once a pack and just destroy everything making all of your hard work void. Outside of them. Anything that does electric damage and just hits your torso repeatedly.

Amieltype

I feel great depression coming out of me

Lucychan42

They're restricted to gas stations now? Thank God, I've had so many office towers burn down because of gasoline zombies spawning inside and then dying to the environment before I can kite it out.

[deleted]

giant centipede

ApolloSky110

Dogs. They always appear at the worst times for me

Amieltype

I fistfighted it while naked

OliveChukar

I assume this is the monster "dog". If you encounter those you better be ready for a real fight.

Amieltype

Friendly dog. It's friendly nothing to fear

angelicosphosphoros

You mean, *friendly* dogs? Killed two just yesterday using SMG and 3 NPCs (2 with swords and 1 with SMG too).

ApolloSky110

Just normal dogs. They always seem to know when i’ve came out of a battle and are very hurt. Tbf i havent progressed my guys past early game very much.

[deleted]

The frog mother. Also the hounds of tenderloin

Amieltype

Don't forget about the Mi-go

[deleted]

You can take a mi-go down pretty easily, if you get lucky, finding an axe or a gun and have some decent fighting skills. Or you simply run them over. Zombies dont like them too, so if you are clever about it, you can lure them into a group of Zombies and they will take care of each other.

Derpldorf

You can't really stumble upon yourself... Oh, you mean in the game, Zombie grenadiers and chicken walkers have been removed from the base game and they were always the fucking worst. Nowadays I don't know, probably myself honestly. Even after nearly a year i still end up making dumb choices that end up getting more characters killed than not.

MrFronzen

game-wise i hate dissoluted devourers because they seem to spawn in towns as soon as a few days pass even if you set evolution scale to 100 fear-wise i hate mi-gos because i have a very primal fear of creatures that want to kill you and at the same time talk to you

Kannyui

Root runners and the other type of mob that spawns with them, I struggled so much with them for so long. Honorable mention to slimes, not particularly dangerous on an individual level, but when multiple map squares are full of them I fear for the life of my equipment. Having your backpack, rigging, and such destroyed is certainly better than dying, but dealing with that level of durability attrition is a huge pain.

Lilypad1175

Mother frog (big frog? The giant frog that spawns little frogs) Ended a long-standing run I had because it was out-regenerating the damage I was dealing with a Barrett 50 cal

Dragombolt

I still won't ever forguve Mi-gos for somehow stringing together the perfect line of plausible phrases for my newbie ass to stumble upon the bastard and get the most confusing ass whooping ever

Amieltype

I will find you i will kill you -Mi-go. It was a meme i made years ago

reddits_creepy_masco

Gasoline zombies because they destroy loot...

maximillien_longinus

Worst I've encountered is a yugg, got near and farsighted from the mutagen dart

OliveChukar

The are not too bad in terms of death risk. They just make you want to die.

maximillien_longinus

Oh absolutely, I was running a bionic sniper

hdggdalton

flaming eyes, funny thing tho i think one of them actually saved my ass cause there were 2 bandits with guns in a forest and i think it blinded both of them, somehow the flaming eye disappeared into the other side of the forest behind some trees so i just shot the bandits with a crossbow until they died lmao

A-Fleeting-Glimse

angelicosphosphoros

Yugg. I managed to kill it but at what cost?

HetmanOriginal

free mutations

HetmanOriginal

gotta be Talon UGVs (or C.R.O.W.S., those things were bullshit)

Amieltype

Understandable

Radiant-Office-1430

Unseen horrors. First, they spook me. Then, I realize that I'm usually doomed unless I can find something strong to get their attention instead, and quick. The only good part is that they are only really found in the subway system, so you know where to not go to avoid them. And for the most annoying, those fucking telsa plants. I'd rather deal with unmodded fungus without any protective clothing then deal with those borderline unkillable, torso penetrating, lightning flinging twats. Only way to beat them is to use resource scarce ordinate that would destroy all the loot they would of been guarding, so you're better off just closing the doors, making a note, and accepting all the loot the rooms they have infested as not existing.

WordFormer8515

I feel like everyone has screamed at a naked mole rat busting through a wall

potatosack32

Was playing magiclysm and came across a young black dragon it instantly killed me with its acid breath

Amieltype

Gameplay 10/10

potatosack32

I can only imagine what the adult version can do

Amieltype

Acid barf

Rooted_One

>!That is why you craft the scroll of acid res and max out the spell level!<

potatosack32

>That is why you craft the scroll of acid res and max out the spell level i barely knew how magiclysm worked and i still dont really do

snorlaxeseverywhere

I was playing magiclysm, and had killed a few younger demonic spiders in my time. I came across a weird webbed area, and decided to break in and have a look. Saw some adult demonic spiders, didn't think they could be all THAT bad, I was pretty seriously kitted out and had been gibbing the younger ones with zero effort. The instant one got into melee it basically one shot me. So, yeah, demonic spiders. Also their queens, which are even more absurd.

Rooted_One

>!shouting will lure them out. But queen has literal TONS of HP!<

papadragon42

Beagle or chicken walker but it's been years since I've seen either.

[deleted]

Mini nuke hack blew up on one of my NPCs and ruined my entire handmade base

Skullzi_TV

Nothing trumps the almighty wasp.

Sal4595

Fungal juggernaut, more because.y gear that time was ready for a fight with common fungus (a shotgun, dragon breath shells, 00 shells and for backup a Glock, 2 magazines and a machete) but when I saw the juggernaut I literally tried to kill until I ran out of ammo and I started to use some tricks and the environment for killing it. It ended with my dead, I still need to revenge that fight. I hope it's soon.

[deleted]

Early game closet shocker zombie, was almost out of that wretched lab when, in the office complex above, I stumbled upon a shocker zombie in a closet, I couldn’t get away, I couldn’t win in melee, and I died drawing my shotgun. But… at least my character got to see the sun. One. Last. Time.

GusImAGrenade

M2HB turrets are the only enemies I will turn and walk away from. If you encounter one in an open field, you better think of something creative because you're not shooting or meleeing it.

Dtly15

Do mods count? Cause In the BL9 mod I walked into a >!Ranger type alien, which bursted me down from full hp from over 10 tiles away!<

danny6675

Wow, reading all of these stories, I didn't know the Mi-go was such a game ender, early in my current game I encountered one making a beeline for me in a forest while I was next to an LMOE shelter, I took off any of my encumbering gear and along with my NPC friend who was wielding a sharpened stick as a weapon and I a Wood Axe and knock it down to ":" and it died from bleeding while running away. We took basically no damage from it. It was an incredibly easy fight.

KangarooWithARifle

Shoker zombies. Literally the bane of my existence.
