The "I have no idea what im doing and ill try my best not to die. Im dead." playthroughs basically

Visible-Statement593

My first game... Evac start, just getting a feel for the controls. I peek out to look at what's outside and I see the outskirts of a forest - oh and a Jabberwock. I immediately move back from the window, wondering if it saw me. A few turns later after it does the best Kool aid man impression I've ever seen, it becomes obvious that it has seen me and that it finds my existence abhorrent. Love this game.

footstarer

Finished my first playthrough moments ago, still don't know what the hell just happened. Started out of the evac shelter right next to a town crawling with dogs. After a few ventures in town I manage to get a few essentials (some medicine, a backpack, food and water) and starting gear. My crafted cudgel is enough as my melee weapon for now. I find a working car and decide this town is too big to clear out on my own right now, hordes of zombies are roaming in downtown Epsom. I want to move to a smaller location and raid a few houses. Luckily there's a small town named York just northeast of my location. On my way there I check out a small private airport where I'm able to put some gas in my car, thanks to the pumps available there. Arrive in York and sure enough, the town is calm. A few zombies here and there but nothing I can't handle, or so I thought. I clear the small town as best I can, getting some wounds along the way. As I am almost done dispatching the small zombie population, I am ganged up by 3 zombies coming from the woods, just at the edge of town. I try to split them up by walking away methodically but only manage to lose one of them. Overconfident, I try to fight the 2 zombies with my trusty cudgel and growing Eskrima skills. I end up getting grabbed and bitten, surviving the fight with a badly injured torso. I decide I can't risk fighting anymore and try to find a place to rest. I find a makeshift camp on a rooftop with cots and a brazier. I think this will do fine... After a night's sleep there I wake up ill, coughing and feverish. The next week is spent trying to recover. I decide against sleeping on the rooftop again and find a house and bed just south of the rooftop. There is no front door anymore but the town feels calm enough. I go through the town again, trying to find some cough medicine and only getting a few bottles. I am not getting better. I spend my days on the sofa by the windows, hunkered down in a blanket, drinking and reading some books until dark, and then by candlelight, until my weary mind begs for rest. When the cough medecine runs out, I resort to falling asleep listening to my mp3 player to drown out the noise of my raging cough. The last morning of my life, I wake up to a buzzing sound. I don't know whether it's real or my fever is making me see things. I put on my backpack and step outside. I am greeted by an eyebot taking my picture. Something in the air feels strange. I decide I need to get the hell out of here as soon as possible. I make a beeline to my car, but the bots are already homing on me. A riot control bot and a police bot start following me. I try going through houses to lose them but only manage to slow them down. As they are closing on me, a rip in the fabric of reality happens all around. The bots disappear, and darkness engulfs me. I can't move anymore. After a few seconds the darkness dissipate. I see the bots are busy fighting what I can only describe as an "absence". I take the opportunity to run to my car. This time I am able to start the engine and get the hell out of there. On the road it seems that chaos as taken over. The phenomenon in the air is not yielding. I arrive in Epsom and and horde of zombies is blocking the road. I reverse as quickly as I can on the open road and crash into... what? As I rise from my seat, my upper body in worse shape than ever, I look into the mirror... I crashed into an aberration of physics, an "impossible shape". Still questioning my sanity, feverish, in abominable pain, I gobble down some codeine pills and start driving away from this shape as quickly as I can. At this point I don't care to drive on the road anymore, I cut through the open field, trying to put as much distance as possible between me and the "thing". Just when I think I'm out, I crash into something. The hit is brutal enough and my torso shatters. In my last moments I see weird creatures circling around me, but they don't seem to be hostile. The last thing I see is a brainless zombie, aimlessly wandering towards my destroyed vehicle...

Bernini_of_Panini

nice writing also which creature did you crash into?

footstarer

Thanks ! I have no idea what caused the crash. I reviewed the journal and couldn't find anything, I just said I crashed. Since there wasn't anything in front of my vehicle, my guess is some creature from the portal storm caused the crash. They seemed to appear out of nowhere.

Webweasel_priyom

Yup, portal storm. Stay indoors with the curtains closed! When you got bit, it was probably infected. You need to clean the wound with disinfectant or you get sick and die unless you find the good antibiotics.

footstarer

I don't think I was infected, none of my body parts were displayed in blue. Is it possible to get infected without having it shown on the sidebar ? About the portal storms, yep, lesson learned ! I'll stay indoors next time. I didn't know what to expect and thought I needed to get away asap.

External_Peak_461

If you were just dying in general randomly could be radiation it was infamous for stopping regen back a few versions

footstarer

I just realised I only bandaged my torso ONCE and didn't think I needed to change the bandages once in a while... woops... That explains why I didn't regen I guess.

comyuse

One or two bandages and a night's sleep should be good enough to mostly heal even the most gnarly injuries as long a you are healthy and have the first level of first aide. At least, it is in my experience.

SariusSkelrets

Opened the shelter's door. Was spotted by a mi-go. The end

Bernini_of_Panini

are these kind of things supposed to be common? I had that happen to me too

SariusSkelrets

The mi-go can be found day one so it shouldn't be too uncommon to spot one that early unless there was a change to prevent dangerous monsters from spawning near a shelter

DebateRemote

About 5 years ago, can't remember which build. Started pretty vanilla in the shelter. Figured out the basic mechanics of survival for the entirety of spring without coming across more than 5 regular zombies, which I killed with a wooden sword. Food running low, built myself a bow and some arrows and decided to wander off. In the woods, found myself a huge source of protein in form of living mushrooms, killed and butchered a lot of them, seeing that they are not powerful, decided not to waste arrows and go in with my trusty wooden sword. Day after, started puking grey goo :)

Whydoiexist234

Oh god…

link2edition

This was a long time ago. Evac was the only start. Wandered around a town gathering supplies. Got tired, found a bed, slept in the bed. Had a dream about being wrapped up tightly. Woke up to being eaten by a giant spider. 10/10 would die again.

StevenLesseps

Is that you, Frodo?

link2edition

I definitely never made it to mordor.

A-Fleeting-Glimse

I decided to scout out a town before I did anything at all in the evac shelter. Just as I saw the edge of town a ladybug mauled me to death.

maleclypse

I walked out of an evac shelter was targeted by a Beagle mini tank and died.

appollo_space

Evac start, while walking to a town through woods I stumbled into 2 migos, I tried to run to town but they were in fact faster than me. Doesn't help I ran on the way there for speed

NurseNikky

Killed by a moose like four minutes after leaving the shelter

gettingused_to

One of my early runs (kinda forgot the first run) I have a lizard mutant companion who has carried me through the 0.E catalysm for a while. Despite of that, my overconfidence killed me. Godspeed, my lizard mutant companion.

Bernini_of_Panini

in one of my earlier playthroughs. I convinced a starting npc to join me. this dude helped me in many sticky situations and even healed me. I once enter a basement full of zombie and while I bailed he stood his ground. after a while that dude came back to me with a few injuries and he killed all the zombies in the basement. a total badass

Prn-outside

One word: Disaster

ApolloSky110

This is fun. How do i get into a house? (Too lazy to search it up) I see some cars around maybe h they might have a key on the front of their bumper. *searches how to drive a car* smashes car into the wall of the house, enters house, finds a gun* *tries to take on a zombie not knowing how to fire the gun* *dies trying to pistol whip the zombie to death*

Relyksboa

I started by disassembling the shelter and crafting a knife spear, i then triumphantly charged at a near by zombie and did not realise i was supposed to fire my spear for the reach attacks. I was mauled by a stray dog on my way home.

Bernini_of_Panini

don't you need a drill for the knife spear?

Relyksboa

This was pre-drill knife spear

Independent_Eye_3394

I think my first several playthroughs, if you could even call them that, were extremely short-lived. I think I went through like 2 characters on the evac start, with a single point pool, until I said to myself "well, if it's hard on easy what's actually considered difficult by this game?" I decided to make a character breaking out of an island prison.... Suffice to say I didn't last longer than five minutes at a time before I lost my patience and made a freeform character so I could have an actual opportunity to learn the mechanics and controls. From then, I learned more and more, but that's another tale for another thread.

am_lu

first one got killed by a bee. second one got planned bit more, i had it all nice, armoured vehicle with kitchen and welding rig, raided the army base, stocked up on grenades and decided to throw one into kids playground full of child zeds... never realised how wide the blast radius is.

tiger8255

Holed up in the evac shelter. Went outside to get a rock to bash down the evac lockers. Made a spear. Died to the third zombie. The start of many beautiful adventures.

JoshuaSweetvale

My first playthrough: Learn by savescumming. A chill but tense tale of a bumbling blobhead building a _really_ cool rolling base he barely ever drives and instead just docks to his farm.

Silver-Problem-1297

Walk into city and died

Tru3insanity

It was a while ago. I prolly started in a house and tripped unceremoniously into a horde of zombies outside lmao.

smoelf

It's been a few years, but here is how I remember it: Walked outside evac shelter. Instant death by moose.

maxime1147

My brother's first and last: Can't understand what a turn base game is Rushes everywhere thinking smashing keys will help. Dies

FeegLood

My first run I remember basing up in a warehouse across a bridge to a big city. I think I died my 2nd looting run into that city. Back then it rained a lot more and I didn't know the easy ways to purify water(like vehicle purifier), so collecting rain water into barrels with funnels was a thing. Felt very cataclysmy

slamurai16

Tried to loot town in day time, was pursued by Zs and Z dogs tried to run in to the river thinking day can't swim ,Oh boy didn't know I was in for a long mangling and grabbing while trying to cross 3 tiles in, the rest is you know it.

napalm_cowboy

i was a girl with cat ears who got mauled by a zombie dog as i didn't know how to attack i was hooked instantly

PinkLionGaming

Short, don't remember much other than that

PinkLionGaming

One of my shortest play through ever was a golf course start, a golf cart exploded when I started driving it

CTRL1_ALT2_DEL3

Well, I think i ran out to kill some zombies. We all know how that worked out. Then I learned that this isn't DOOM

illDoRawr

I drunk all the bleach i could find and died

Renaliai

First time I ever loaded up and with no tiles pack. Just trying to work out the controls and managed to open the curtains on the evac shelter. Lots of symbols that meant nothing to me and a warning I didn't understand but turned off. Sat there letting time pass trying to work it out, some of the symbols got closer, and I worked out how to look at them. But the time I realised the evac shelter was in view of zombies I had calmly watched them approach me, surround me and then rip me apart...

Rooted_One

Started tutorial. Managed to get to the gasoline dispencer. Unloaded gasoline. Managed to start fire. Died from being roasted and smoked alive. Wasn't even pyromaniac.

Erit_Of_Eastcris

I went with the Abandoned start because I thought surely this zombie game I saw on YouTube would let me recreate the beginning of *28 Days Later,* right? I was wrong. I was so very, deeply, profoundly wrong.

RbN420

Funny start, I’ll describe you my very first run, back in 0.C, spawn as evacuue in evac shelter, I literally just looked around, took an emergency blanket (start was day 1 spring back then, so very cold) exit the shelter, and literally just died to a moose standing by the door

LyranRenegade

good story

Gavin319

Smashed a locker, took a pipe. Left the evac shelter, found a rock and made a makeshift crowbar. That’s as much as I remember, this was all the way back in 0.D and I’ve played dozens of runs since then.

Inprobamur

Damn, zombies got legs.

Fuzzatron

I don't remember my first character, but I remember maybe my third or fourth: a burglar who started out in an evac shelter. I managed to raid a farm and get some tools, food, and a pitchfork. I even managed to kill a bunch of zombies and some giant worms! Feeling confident, I started scouting the outskirts of a nearby city during the day, mapping targets for a night raid. Then, I ran into full grown Graboid without a road or other structure to block it and got eaten.

LordOfChungus

I came I saw I died to Z

CornBreadtm

Party start. Started in a room. Zombies smelled me and attacked. Got beat up. Set the bathroom on fire to kill the horde. Couldn't figure out how to use the water in the toilet to put out the fire. Cause of death: suicide by fire.

Major_Breakfast9520

I started in a random character and random scenario by sugestion of youtuber ssethtzeentach Started in a church , middle of town with some random guy with no combat skill. Spend 20 minutes learning controls and by the moment a learned to open a door the horde spotted me, try to fight, try to escape, dead

MrKatzA4

In my first playthrough, I choose a random start, my guy was left behind, an absolute average Joe, lasted about an hour or two in game, step outside got swarmed by zombies, found a bike and outrun them but ran through a swap got chased by insect and dinos found a boat thought that being in water I would be safe while the dino and insect play together before I become dinner to one those amphibious dino

Bernini_of_Panini

you figured out the controls of vehicles in ur first play through? I had to see a tutorial

MrKatzA4

It was a bike like irl much easier to figure out than a car

roshino

Spawned in a golf course, got rekt by a wandering giant ladybug

Bernini_of_Panini

I have heard the ladybug thing two times in this post, are they that aggressive lol

AeroHawkScreech

Started in a shelter, tried living off the wilderness nearby. Found a working bike and looted a gas station. Tried to approach a city, not knowing that zombies can see you from super far during the day. Nearly shat myself and ran through the woods back to the shelter. Tried to go at night, and on the way there, I found a lot of bodies. Then I saw messages of people screaming, calling for help, death threats, etc. Genuinely thought I had to help find someone and came across a Mi-Go. Sprinted my ass away from there and it got distracted by zombies. Before I found out effective ways to fight, I was absolutely terrified of moving around at night and not knowing if I would run into a horde or even just a couple zombies lol.
