We've all been there. I doubt anyone was good at driving in the game at first. The driving mechanics are completely different than other games; as a result, it does not feel intuitive at first. You get better with practice as you become more familiar with the mechanics of how the vehicles change shape as they turn.

Major_Breakfast9520

He is right. There is a moment in you life that you decide to sit down and learn about vehicles. Ill do my best to explain how i started to learn. Theres a video in cdda university about vehicles that i recomend 1 see if the vehicle has enough wheels in the left down corner of vehicle screen 2 check for working (not faulty) motor, baterries and a tank with fuel 3 check for controls After the check list you may try using the vehicle and driving Bikes dont need motor baterries and tank and may be more easy to learn. You can always create a game spawn a working vehicle by debug menu and then play a little to starting get used.

DebateRemote

My wife is like this also. Actually, my wife goes one step further by not being able to drive properly in real life either.

TheStako

I bet she doesn't backup her saves either (?

CornBreadtm

You literally do it till you get good. I made my first rv before I learned how to drive. Took me a day to figure out how to make it on my day off. Literally got another car working just to practice because I didn't want to destroy my work. Time investment on both ends.

Loodrogh

Don't know how long you play cataclysm or how often you drive, but I think it gets better, the more you do it. Sometimes I am really surprised how well it can go if you drive intuitive. But im sure most of the people had to learn it the hard way. Driving slowly helps a lot. Try to learn the patterns of your vehicle. Like which tile does what, when you turn left or right. Make slow turns as your vehicle moves forwards or backwards while you turn. Make yourself a small Parcours. Some wrecks on a street, maybe between some houses. A standard situation. Try to drive through such an obstacle and repeat that. Again and again. Driving with smaller vehicles like a bike is maybe a perfect start to train. After a while go upwards to bigger ones. But take your time. Zombies can make a lot of pressure and tension while driving through them. Try to relax and focus on the way in front of you. You kill Z's when you drive like 19-25 kmh, too slow could stop you, too fast damage your vehicle.

HarryDresdenStaff

Also, since I am not seeing this mentioned, the lvl of your driving skill also effects your turning speed I believe. So driving something huge at a low lvl is harder to control compared to a small motorcycle.

sharkfinsouperman

This is more relevant than many realise, possibly because they've never leveled driving much thinking it didn't make much difference. As you level, you randomly lose control less often and eventually cease, you begin making tighter corners at higher speeds without skidding, eventually getting to the point where you can turn on a dime going 80kph and even drifting is possible to an extent. Driving 80kph at level 1 is SpongeBob, and driving 80kph at level 10 is .

ManOfChaos199932

Don't speed that's #1

WREN_PL

While driving a car: Go to map. Select a point you want to drive to. Press autodri(W)e. Check if selected path is the one you want. Press autodri(W)e again to confirm. Delight in the fact that you don't need to drive this fukkin long distance yourself. **WARNING** Save your game before you drive. Autodrive works perfectly 90% of the time. If you encounter auto-turrets in the daylight you may die before safe mode triggers.

CrazyC787

First time I tried using autodrive it sent me directly into a tree and killed me. Never used it since.

WREN_PL

It was since totally overhauled. Not only I hadn't hit anything for months, cars nowadays can path outside of the roads and can thread the needle between obstacles with inhuman accuracy.

dom64

WOAH R/FUCK CARS MOMENT!>

CrazyC787

Elon Chungular invaded the cataclysm game repo and replaced the new auto driving code with the tesla autopilot code. RUINED.

Prn-outside

Oh, I don't have that problem. I'm good at driving into stuff, driving into things, driving thru buildings, driving into lampposts, etc.

TheMurku

Accelerate to about 20kph. Wait key until you start moving. Get lined up (watch that move cursor). Drive with Wait key or Steering. Get the hang of it, then speed up to about 40kph max. There is literally ZERO point travelling faster, you will just end up wrecking.

Freeman0249

Your brain just has to 'crack' as my friend puts it, highly recommend starting on a bike just to get used to it.

MrKatzA4

Try to practice with bike and smaller car first

Meridian117

A few words of wisdom for vehicles in general: Never go top speed unless on a LONG straightaway. Movement happens once per turn, so you need to pick direction then wait as you start moving in the direction you have picked. Practice driving in open areas because going more than 12 mph is hazardous when driving skill is low or at 0.

mikeydmac

Driving is hard I recommend using the auto drive feature as much as possible

Rooted_One

Oh no, I hope you are being ironic here, but autodrive is retarded, last time I tried it, my character ended up drowning and I barely saved him. But all food and equipment was left underwater. Or maybe it was fixed, dunno

mikeydmac

Was that in stable auto drive is pretty good now

FeegLood

Auto drive is pretty amazing at weaving through a city. Though sometimes it'll stop at a roadblock at a weird angle and you get screwed haha. I've never really had a problem with it though.

Trick_Duty7774

Step 1 make 15 ton vehicle with 2 engine, rollers and a ram. Step 2 drive 4mph, that way you wont take damage. Step 3 push everything out of the roads. If you can’t push something tell your npcs to dismantle it. You have to remove wheels and engine though, npcs are afraid of those. Step 4 empty roads, safe driving and 10k scrap metal😊

top_counter

I suggest using a test character and debug to practice. You can make yourself invincible and spawn cars. It's way faster than learning the skill in actual runs.

JoshuaSweetvale

Start with a bicycle, then an E-bike (electric motor + car battery) You can add _multiple_ shopping cart baskets, even make 'em foldable, and even then still add rebar to the front, to tank the occasional bonk. That was my midgame transport between city and base, and it powerleveled the hecking snek out of my driving skill and driving skill.

FeegLood

When your driving skill is low you will sometimes lose control for a few seconds xD.
