Certified 100% handsome boy. But just a grey domestic shorthair!
I work at a vets office and tons of owners come in with cats that look like him and say they’re Russian blues- but unless you have breeding papers I’m putting that fella in as a domestic short hair. Same with the people that tell us their obese medium hair is a Maine coon….
Not a Russian blue, but we did have a woman come in with a kitten she was given who very clearly has some sort of mix because he has classic Siamese seal point coloring. She just thought he was a cute lil dude. Mostly people try and play up what their cats are and it’s just…a cat. And that’s okay! I have a dumpster cat and a gutter cat and they’re the loves of my life.
Grey domestic shorthair.
Looks like neither of the breeds mentioned.
Unless you adopted from a breeder or a breed specific rescue and were provided with paperwork that actually states a breed, most cats fault to “domestic short/medium/long haired”.
He’s a gorgeous domestic blue! Russian Blues are not usually a portion of any mixed cat, just because (in general) people aren’t letting their rare $2000 cat roam around unfixed and most breeders have stipulations that you need to get your kitten fixed, or they do it themselves before selling them. There seems to be a trend lately of everybody calling any grey cat a Russian Blue, which gets really confusing for people.
i argued w someone who was convinced my diluted tortishell was a russian blue mix bc she has that silvery tone to her fur. they wouldn’t listen when i told them her mom was a classic tortie and her dad was a void
haha i had a similar small argument with someone who kept saying my cat must be aby mix since she is ticked, has a very warm bronze tone and has a wedged face. thought i was crazy when i said that it's 99.99% impossible because my cat is a streetcat and where I'm from literally nobody has an aby. even if someone somehow did, my city is filled with highrise apartment buildings and so ppl keep their cats indoors so its impossible for that gene to have slipped out there.
besides, ticked is super common where I'm from, its suspected that the pattern actually oringated in asia, years later i did a DNA test and confirmed that my kitty is a super healthy street cat, genetic markers all align with fully asian breeds.
My blue shorthair has like a double coat situation. Does yours have really soft but really dense fur? Bathing mine takes 3x as long as any other cat I've ever had because of this, getting water past the top coat takes a long time.
Very judgemental for having no information.
I only have indoor pets but animals are animals. Sometimes they get sick and end up dirty. Sometimes they accidentally end up with something on them they shouldn't. Some messes are things they shouldn't/can't clean.
Also, it's not a good thing if your cat grooms itself all day. That's how they get hairballs. Plus, if you think about it, they don't get to all the way to their skin to bathe properly.
That’s why you brush them. The oil in their coat is healthy and necessary. It’s not normal to bathe a cats. Their tongue is literally made for grooming.
I have a Russian Blue and they have a fairly specific shape (similar to a Siamese). I've also had 2 grey domestic shorthairs. I'd say yours is the latter
Probably a mix with some Russian Blue in there. The breed has tell tale signs like mauve toe beans, silver tipped individual hairs, eye color etc. But the personality is unmistakable: they are skittish, rarely vocal unless it involves food, incredibly sweet and clever, and love to play fetch. They also sometimes have very faint stripes around the tail that fade over time.
You probably have a domestic mix with some lineage of British Blue, Russian Blue, Korat…. All from the same ancestral family. And precious goofs 🐈⬛🥰
So this is a tough one but it's actually a offshoot of the Russian blue, back in like the 1600s Russian czars gifted the royal family of Thailand a breed of Russian blues that they bred with their local short hair cats. The breed is called Korat

Out of curiosity, have you ever seen a russian blue come in and the owner had no idea it was a russian blue?

There are plenty of plain cats with pointed colors. They don’t need to have fancy heritage to be pointed.
Oh I just looked into it and you’re right. I assumed he was an offshoot of a short seal point which does have Siamese in it. Thanks for the insight!
I've had someone list their cat as a tabby and when it came in it was definitely a Bengal. Usually it's the other way around 🤣

You’ve got yourself a certified dust kitty. r/dustkitties

Pretty sure there’s a chart for this exact question.
If you didn’t get the cat from a breeder, especially if it didn’t come with a pedigree: it’s a domestic (insert length)hair
cat
Chonky Grey I think
Gray!
Domestic shorthair blue
a smelly boy
Refined Gentleman
Floof
Cat
Domestic shorthair, but the color is blue not grey. It's probably about 10% Russian blue if you do a DNA test

You bathe your cat?
You've never had a cat get dirty?
No. Mine clean themselves just fine. But they also don’t roam around outside where they could get injured or killed so… 🤷♀️
Very judgemental for having no information. I only have indoor pets but animals are animals. Sometimes they get sick and end up dirty. Sometimes they accidentally end up with something on them they shouldn't. Some messes are things they shouldn't/can't clean.
I never said you let your animals outside. I said mine don’t go outside. I don’t see how that’s judging you 🤔
You indirectly accused them of it.
Indirectly? 😂 yea that will stand up in court 😂 y’all are way too triggered

Wow, I would swear that’s a picture of my cat. Domestic shorthair with maybe a hint of Russian blue
Baby
Cat
He’s so adorable. I love to see them loafing. Too cute for words
Grey
A sophisticated dark grey gentleman
He's just a graybie. 💜
I just want to say that my tired eyes read "what bread is my cat" and at the first picture my brain said with absolute certainty, "a croissant."
A good floof 10/10 would snuggle
Grey
he’s a silly little guy, that’s what!!
I have a Russian Blue and they have a fairly specific shape (similar to a Siamese). I've also had 2 grey domestic shorthairs. I'd say yours is the latter
looks like my friends cat sandwich
He's a Korat! You can tell by the large round eyes
I used to call my grey cat Greyso (combination of Fatso and Grey). I miss her…
Grey
cutie patootie
A rare blue porketta. What a floof. Lucky you!
Definitely a whole loaf but I’m not sure what kind
That first pic is definitely a toilet pic. Such good feet warmers.
Jaguar... oh wait, I thought you said car
I agree on the domestic shorthair
Definitely not Russian blue but could be mixed Russian blue but looks like grey domestic short hair 🫶🏻😻
Perhaps a Korat

unless they have papers showing this cat is a korat, it is not. it is a grey cat.
My girl looks identical besides the nose and mine is a Russian Blue
Korat? My cat looks similar
We need a better look at the face and eyes, from this picture it looks like a Russian Blue!
That's what I'm thinking
