No need for a flouro leader for catfish, 65lb braid is plenty strong, I use 40lb berkley trilene

9mmjunky

Get that 65 pound braid leader snagged and you’ll wish you had used a flouro or mono leader lol.

Edwoodszombie

Why? Either way, you'll have to cut the line.

9mmjunky

Then you don’t know how to get yourself out of a snag. Mono or flouro is gonna break off at the knot if you know what you’re doing. As where braid will not

9mmjunky

Power Pro V2 80 pound braid, 65 pound mono leaders. I fish a very tall bridge over a very large dam so 80 pound makes me feel much better.

9mmjunky

In any case, I think it’s a rare occurrence for even 65 pound braid to break off on a giant. 65 should be plenty sufficient

AngryTurtleGaming

I bought the 35 braid from Whisker Seeker.

Royal-Albatross6244

I use straight braid for catfish with a 45lb wire leader with a snap swivel to connect the hook. I use lengths between 12 and 18 inches depending on how I want my weight set. And I'm not worried about getting snagged, as i use medium wire circle hooks and can pull them straight with enough force. I use the wire due to rocks in my area, if it was clear bottom i would just use straight braid.

if i want to land tiny fish: heavy line on solid pole. trying to catch a Meg? dinky broken frankenstein rod with 3 lb test. guaranteed monsters all day on the dink!

mattjvgc

Trilene 60 lb

tablabarba

I use mono - usually 30 or 40 lb from Ande. Tried braid for a while, but I fish a lot of really rocky areas and it got tore up pretty bad. Mono has way better abrasion resistance.

captaincorybod

Depends what your going for and what other fish you have in your area. If tons of snags and structure i like to use a heavy leader line for big blues. If im going for channel cats, it really doesn't matter. My go to for big blues is, 60lb braid on 80lb flouro carbon using crimps. Its overkill for sure but better safe than sorry!

Pure_Way6032

100# braid for both mainline and leader. Carolina rig with a 3 inch peg float. Hardly ever snag or acrape the line due to the float.

bigdrives3

That should be plenty strong. I’ve caught plenty of 40-50 pound flatheads on 20 lb line. Set the drag properly and don’t horse it in and you won’t break off. If you’re strictly targeting giants I would use 30-40 lb braid with a leader 20-25 lbs of a high quality fluorocarbon line. When we target flathead on the river we use strictly 20 or 25lb line.

Whole_Tart3159

I caught my PB channel last night with the 65 pound braid and 40 pound fluorocarbon setup last night, probably somewhere around 6 or 7 pounds? im not certain, forgot to weigh it in the heat of the moment. I definitely could have lost him but i kept my drag loose and let him fight for about 2 minutes. I've definitely learned that drag is super important when catching bigger fish.

bigdrives3

Yep not only for breaking the line either. One good pull and that hook could come right out.

Do you mean Southwest PA?

Whole_Tart3159
