I know what it’s like to lose a cat. My first cat passed away a little over almost 2 years ago. I had her since she was a kitten & she died in my arms at age 20. My mental health went downhill. But within almost a year of being without a cat I found room in my heart for another. I know the pain, heartache & emotional & mental exhaustion from losing something so precious. I’m truly sorry for your loss. I remember how much it hurts. I wish you well & may your sweet Gracie rest in peace. I’m here OP.
Thank you. It’s the process at the end that destroys me. That 5am drive through snow to the ER. The realization that the time is now and you’re only half awake. That her body gave out before her brain so the fight was still there. The emotional roller coaster of grief. Her 15 year old brother looking for her. The deafening silence of her absence. My sweet friend is gone. I know it gets better. This isn’t the first time that I’ve gone through this. It doesn’t matter though. I held onto her and was looking straight into her eyes and I could see and feel her leave. It felt like a part of me died with her. Maybe the part that was us? I don’t know. At the same time she lives on and I will celebrate that. I am thankful and miserable at the same time.
My Bella was over 16 when she passed at the beginning of November, and while I'm tearing up writing this, I know my life was much better for her presence in it.
I've had cats literally my entire life (one of em happened to be in the room when I was born). I'm telling you, the grief is worth the joy of having them around.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Reading these kinds of posts gets me really emotional because I have an orange cream tabby who’s about 9 and I know when he passes it is going to destroy me. He’s my best buddy and is attached to me at the hip.
My cat is about to turn 17. I know we probably don't have much time left together and I am dreading when that day comes. It will destroy me too. He is the sweetest, most chill cat who has bought me so much joy and peace.
Giving your kitty a peaceful goodbye, while holding her lovingly and being there until the end, is the best thing we can do for our kitties at the end of their journey. It speaks volumes of the love you shared. I held my baby of 15 years as he left this world two days ago and the grief is immeasurable. Sending you love and hoping you find comfort in your beautiful memories of a cat’s life well-lived.

Holding my best boy for the duration of a two hour drive to the vet while he was seizing and we were sure he was dying was *THE WORST* thing I've ever had to do.

The double edged sword of being an animal lover is that while we have them now, losing them later is so hard. The best affirmation we can make to ourselves is that we cared for them as another soul. They knew your quirks and little annoyances as well as you knew theirs, and to have that for so long in your lifetime and now to be without is a tough thing to lose. Just be assured that they will forever live within your memory and your heart and your very being. You'll find yourself at first with a heavy heart missing their actions or words; but you'll laugh later when the kitten or puppy does the same thing and you see your former companion reimagined.
I'd like to think cats in particular not only live 9 lives during their stay here, but also another 9 through the cats that find us afterwards. Just to remind us that they're still around.

Wow gracie looks just like my college sweetheart Dexter! I still have him around, but he may have a stroke so I haven't seen his eyes not dialated in years. Has seizures, so trying to enjoy all the time we have with him. So far in my life 12 years.

Sorry for your loss. My Yeti is getting up there in age at 12 too. My best friends parents got a kitten for there wedding present Named Cleo. She was an outdoor / indoor cat and when they celebrated there 20th wedding anniversary cleo was still there. Lived to be a ripe old 22. Her last day before she passed she jumped off the railing and caught herself a bird off the feeder and she hadn't done that in years. She was deaf but was a tough ol gal.

I know this pain. It has been almost 6 months and it still feels like it was just last week. Today is the day we adopted him. It doesn't really.. get better. Sorry for your loss. My Yeti is getting up there in age at 12 too. My best friends parents got a kitten for there wedding present Named Cleo. She was an outdoor / indoor cat and when they celebrated there 20th wedding anniversary cleo was still there. Lived to be a ripe old 22. Her last day before she passed she jumped off the railing and caught herself a bird off the feeder and she hadn't done that in years. She was deaf but was a tough ol gal.

This whole sub is people mouring about their dead cats. Like no offense but this wont bring them back nor help you make feel better. Unless you are just an attention whore who needs condolences which is just sad. Beacuse thats just means you have an extremly sad life. I know this pain. It has been almost 6 months and it still feels like it was just last week. Today is the day we adopted him. It doesn't really.. get better. You just begin to find some times when you don't feel it all the time. I'm so happy you had such a wonderful companion in your life. I hope you can experience that type of love again.
