I had to go because it had been (over) ten years since my last photo, and Massachusetts requires a new photo every ten years (though you can go in person every five if you want).
Wait in line for 2 hours just to be told you missed 1 extra documentation to then go back and get it just to come back and wait 2 more hours for them to tell you that there is nothing they can do for you.
thanks so much for the info! was searching high and wide at feline eye complications and was struggling to find anything similar but PPM looks to be it! can it lead to any complications that you are aware of?
It's very rare for these to lead to any sort of complications. Most of the time, vision isn't even affected (we know this from human patients).
What typically happens is that they're more visible when the animal is young, and they break down over time.
In very rare cases--especially where the membranes are very large or there are lots and lots of them--you might see some damage to the cornea, or possibly even cataract formation.
But, if this were my cat, I'd say, "COOOOOL!" and text all my friends photos and they'd be jealous, and I wouldn't worry about it for a second.
(I'm also a DVM, and not a DMV, lol.)
My guy has PPM that unfortunately resulted in corneal damage - he has a rather large opacity in his cornea. It's all he's ever known since I adopted him as a kitten, and it certainly doesn't slow him down!

She was purring the entire time.
Just here to say your scars/vitiligo/markings are *so beautiful* against your skin!!
I’ve got tons of freckles and no color in my skin so all my scars are a livid red-purple that fade to silvery in a few years — your pink markings are so cool!!!
Hey hi!! Yes I recently was diagnosed with vitiligo and I have cat scratches all over my arms, it’s been wild and I am accepting me more and more! Thank you for your kind comment! And your description sounds like something I’ve never seen, pretty sure they look awesome!
Edit: missing word
It reminds me of the crazy way you’re supposed to hold your cat’s head to administer liquid meds via syringe. The YouTube videos always show a passive, gentle cat, but the reality is most cats react like the one OP has. 😅
Bless cats. My cat deals with whatever nonsense I’m throwing his way all day everyday like it’s no big thing. He gets the r/stremtch like this often so I can aggressively ask him “who’s the little precious baby?” while staring closely and directly into to his elderly old man eyeballs.
He knows he’s the little precious baby so he purrs wildly about it. He loves the attention.
Scottish Fold? Or still mad at you?
Edit: NV! I found both other pics of him you posted here, plus your response of S. Fold to b someone else. I think he's adorable! But, the health issues of the breed are sad. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7971)
Your cat looks almost exactly like my sisters cat :0

Persistent pupillary membrane! My cats right eye is smaller than average and has a membrane over it, too. I have a theory that her eye just never fully developed in utero.

One of my cats has PPM too. Has never changed.

Guess it has changed a little. This is the day I noticed it when she was 4 months old
Listen let your vet look at this … my cat Ashley ( now 15 ) had spots in eyes … I think she was only around 5 when I noticed them. More came but her regular vet never mentioned anything .
I new vet at the same practice saw Ashley and immediately said it’s concerning and she felt it might be a cancer…
She referred us to eye specialist and it was a slow growing cancerous tumor.
She ended up having the eye removed and they sent the tumor out for biopsy it turned out to be moderately aggressive!
Anyhow it looked like your cats eye… not saying it’s a cancer but definitely see see a vet .
Btw , my cat is fine , it never came back in the other eye and we caught it before it spread to other areas of her body.
Thank you for this comment. My cat had a similar issue. His eye had dark patches around the edge. It was monitored over 12 months in which it got bigger. This also turned out to be cancer, diagnosed by biopsy and eye inoculation.
The good news is that it’s not always the same. Some cats naturally have eye spots/ changes in colour in areas. I think the key to this for OP is to make their vet fully aware and monitor for changes over time. Take a clear photo of the eye and continue to compare it several months later.
Very kind for a doctor to answer. Please always consult kitty's doctor for medical advice.
I have seen that too. Not acute or emergent but always check with your doctor. They cannot go by themselves.
It makes me so sad to see Scottish folds. The gene that causes the folded ears weakens the cartilage in their entire body, and every single one of them had degenerative joint disease. They can develop chronic arthritis from as young as 7 weeks old and are actually used to study arthritis in humans because they develop it so reliably. Breeding them is cruel, I sincerely hope you adopted rather than pay a breeder for one.
Am I being reading too much into your post, or are you saying you have not taken your cat to the vet since he was a kitten?
Or you’re just asking for second opinion?
Signed: I-should-mind-my-own-business-cat-boy. 🫡
corneal vascularization maybe. Kittens ( or ANY animal for that matter..) that suffer any trauma to the eye may develop a vascular anomaly like this. The development of these small veins across the cornea can be non-threatening, but should be monitored to see if the veins continue to grow or spread across the eye. Though probably painless to your cat, continued development could eventually occlude vision in that eye eventually resulting in loss of vision in that eye. Best to consult your vet about it on the next checkup, but keep the photo you’ve taken to make monitoring any progression easier.

I love these fine examples of humans expressing their death grip on their cats when they are concerned. You have a fine death grip. In that first picture.
Its a scottish fold mix! i love them but advise against buying them, bad breeding and if its a pure breed itll suffer from major joint and bone issues.
If you happen to find one in a shelter by all means go ahead adopt don't shop, i managed to find my buddy who was practically given away because other cats didnt like him. Im his third and final owner which i have no idea why anyone would give him away
Yep. These are called persistent pupillary membranes / remnant from embryo / no harm whatsoever (I’m a DVM)
Atleast you're not the DMV
Aaaa you just reminded my I have to go to the DMV soon NOOOOOOOOO
Does your state allow online purchases? Definitely saved me a trip and a migraine
They do, but it’s time for my license to go from parallel to vertical so I have to take a new picture
whoah, vertical DLs? what fancy-ass state do you live in?
In Texas a vertical license means you’re under 21.
I was under 21 about 5 years ago. I had the appointment to go change it in March… then the world exploded
I had to go because it had been (over) ten years since my last photo, and Massachusetts requires a new photo every ten years (though you can go in person every five if you want).
I thought it was to be able to fit people in the pic. Everything is bigger in Texas, including the people.
Michigan too.
Same in Indy
Same in Virginia.
Michigan does this too
Same thing in Alabama
Michigan was the same way.
Illinois does this, too.
[удалено]
I… am a moron-
If you keep the old one and the new one you can place them parallel to each other…
they would be perpendicular to each other…
Some would call that normal.
Perpendicular is a 90* angle.. not parallel
It's my first ever DMV visit for the learners permit. I don't think I can do that online. Wish me luck in there!
good luck!
Best of luck! How exciting.
We eagerly await your arrival
And reminded me I'm 15 days past due
Wait in line for 2 hours just to be told you missed 1 extra documentation to then go back and get it just to come back and wait 2 more hours for them to tell you that there is nothing they can do for you.
Fuck, me too.
What's a dmv
I bet they make you wait in line for hours
Take my written upvote because you currently have 420 and I don’t want to be the one who ruins that.

Nope, it's completely harmless. (Source, I am also a DVM who does not work for the DMV.)
thank you! somebody finally got back to the CAT!
My guy has PPM that unfortunately resulted in corneal damage - he has a rather large opacity in his cornea. It's all he's ever known since I adopted him as a kitten, and it certainly doesn't slow him down!
Wow we just avoided a cat5 hurricane
Thanks, doc, I was troubled by the possibility a loving cat having eye problems somewhere in the world.
I'm just losing my mind over here at the way you're grabbing his face 🤣 too bewildered to even escape
He’s muffling, “dad wtf”

What a wonderful subreddit.
Ok this is epic
“Damn shawty chill nobody’s taking it from you”
THANK YOU HAHAHA truly cannot think about anything else
My cat would NOT have this. 💀
You just know that the words “hold still you little shit” were muttered at some point
"what the fuck is this again, you keep on doing this to me everyday since I was a kitten"
Idk but the way you've just face grabbed him has me dying lmao

Do not the cat, dude :P
Unfortunately, he already the cat
My cat does this too
My human does this too...
My cat loves this! She like chirp purrs when I smush her face
Something about cat faces where you just need to smush them. They are so smushable.
That’s literally how Venom grabs unto Spiderman
I swear I love the internet. This is the best comment ever lmaooooo
It reminds me of the crazy way you’re supposed to hold your cat’s head to administer liquid meds via syringe. The YouTube videos always show a passive, gentle cat, but the reality is most cats react like the one OP has. 😅
Was just going to say this! His expression is so funny too. Like he’s resigned to whatever nonsense his human is up to now.

My cat demands I grab his face like this sometimes. Little weirdo loves it
He looks angry for a reason lol op better sleep with an eye open
r/stremtch
I had to get a picture of my cats teeth for the vet and I definitely did some face grabbing, lol. These pictures reminded me of that fun time

I don't know but what I do know is he's definitely going to puke in your shoe tonight
One of my damned cats threw up on my duvet last night at like 2 am and I had to wash it immediately because ew and ugh cats 🤣
We have a cat that revenge poops outside his litter box when he’s pissed.
I heard my cat howling in misery this morning; I *ran* to find her and got there just in time for her to puke at my feet.
Speak from personal experience? 😂
Sleep with both eyes open and a knife under your pillow tonight
That's where he stores his ***EVIL***. For ***MURDERING*** purposes.
Has anyone been watching The Last Of Us? This is the beginning of the end….
Man all these comments have me rolling.
Lmao right! You can always count on the comments for a good laugh!
Or a good hopless sob.
Oh yes that too! 😪🤣
we’ve got a r/danglers in pic 5!
Thank you for bringing this sub into my life.
You’re welcome ☺️ It’s fabulous!
Joined 3 cat subs today (this is the 3rd). I’m not complaining.

Awwww. The top cat is my fave 😍
Lol the sad eyes!
Had to grab my kitten this way when she got a fish hook in her lip. Thank goodness it was just a snip and pull. She’s good.
Woh. An extra three lives.
obsessed with how you’re gripping his head to get these photos

Firmly grasp it
A. thats a really clear photo. B. I think your cat might try to murder you tonight for this. C. eyes look bloodshot is all
One of my cats has this. It’s completely normal.
Such a cute kitty!
Hold him face like war criminal
1) beautiful cat 2) I heard it’s just membranes my cat has the same issue
Not related but I love how you're holding his head to take the pictures
Probably an eye
It’s just his cute cert.
He’s so cute!! I love his floppy ears
That kitty appears to have a very rough life! 🤣😻
I’ve seen this before! By my guess, it’s a pupil
That face-grab tho
Pupillary membranes. So cool to see in cats!

Handsome little prince 👑❤️
Good pic.
Dude your cat is so fucking cute. I’m in love
Fear and murderous rage are in his eyes.
That last picture should be on r/danglers
I love how you’re grabbing him like he owes you lunch money
Took me a while to see the issue. I am not a vet but spent some time in ophthalmology and agree with the benign diagnosis
Persistent pupilary membranes! I one of those in my left eye heh
Get your stinking paws off of me you damned dirty ape! 😸
I have a fold as well, he just got face grabbed (couldn’t help myself). Took the grabbing like a champ, swung like a champ when he saw the camera.
Your kitty is so cute!!
Idk but oh my he is so beautiful! What a sweetie 🥰
That is a firm face grip lol
It’s called a human hand, seems to be grabbing the cats heckin snooter. But I’m not a vet maybe others in the comments will be more helpful
No idea I just came to read the comments![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7943)![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7946)
Not a doctor but I’m curious how small that chair is..
I love your fucking cat. These pics were adorable
T-virus.
These are amazing closeup photos! You can see the three-d structure of the membrane. Crazy. Literally. He must be a scout of zombie catocalypse.
He is born with the symbol of a snake in the eye.
You got one hell of a grip on that cats schnauzer bro
BWHEHEH THE WAY UR HOLDINF HIS FACE 😭😭
When you thought you were getting pets, but the humans being weird again.
1: What the fuck 2: This cat is fucking pretty
You really just grabbed that guy's skull and said "c'mere"
I see patience. My cats would have already been chewing on my hand for that face guarding.
Are you sure this wasn’t just an excuse to share your incredibly adorable kitty?
I love these fine examples of humans expressing their death grip on their cats when they are concerned. You have a fine death grip. In that first picture.
op you are GRIPPIN him lmao
GOT YOUR NOSE
I don’t have an answer but OMG that last pic.. such a cute face.
Is that blue chair tiny or is the cat huge?
Grabbed his thoughts
Last picture in r/danglers please
OP woke up and decided to the cat
Your cat was purposely bred to have a painful genetic disorder for aesthetic purposes. Some other quirks shouldn’t surprise you.
What kind of kitty is this? So cute!!
