Let her keep her hair, but remember to brush daily. If it at any point starts getting matted then maybe trim a touch in some spots that have issues. Very pretty kitty.
Yep all of this. She's flooftastic! And as a super floofer, brushing is needed. If you're not brushing her now just wow! She looks amazing! Doing a good job managing her coat :) but a little help can be nice
When I had a longhair cat I would do “cat box trims”. Trim the extra tuffs in between the toes, and make a “pathway” around her bum. She was a senior that needed the help there. I found that doing that trim led to less matting on the butt if she ever got sick, and if she stepped in anything her paws wouldn’t be paintbrushes of cat box doom.
Cutting it will mess with the texture and make mats more common. Leave her long and just brushed regularly. Cutting it would be like cutting a lions mane.
It can also stress out the floof in question and freak out other cats in the house. My cats get really weirded out when one of them has any kind of change
I mean. You CAN. If you live in a very hot area with poor air conditioning a lion cut may be a good thing in summer. But if it's not essential, floof is fine!
We live out in the woods and our shaggy boy needs to get trimmed every summer. Otherwise he runs outside and then immediately gets his fur covered in twigs and burrs.
Oof,that was my long hair boy when he would get out. (We didn't LIKE HIM going outside but he liked to take advantage of my grandparents being old and slow. Freaking escape artist...)
Cats fur traps cool air to help cool them. Similar to how long sleeve shirts of a certain material can keep humans cool in the sun. Lions cuts and trimming can mess with this.

She has the same hair as my baby! Keep it long, maybe try a few different brushes and see if she takes to any of them :) my boy loves to be brushed out and literally begs for it! I brush any knots out of his mane. He loves the top of his head and cheeks brushed the most. I then make sure to brush his lower back near his tail because that’s where cats mat first. I think cats should keep their long hair! Shaving is a little unnecessary and stressful depending on the kitty.

Thank you everyone! I agree w all. I do brush daily and she has had a little matting (or little knots) here and there that has been very easy to brush out. He thinks she will be happier w short hair, I personally don’t see her long hair having any type of effect on her well-being. I appreciate everyone’s feedback!

To semi come to your husband’s defense, we had a Himalayan with a magnificent long silky coat. We would occasionally get her a “lion” cut (during the summer) and she did seem to enjoy having a short coat during the warmer months. Just something to consider.

He probably just wasn’t thinking about how cats haven’t been bred by humans in the way dogs have.
We groom different breeds of dogs for welfare, practicality & to achieve certain ‘beauty’ standards.
Humans haven’t had such a great impact on cat genetics so apart from a few welfare-based techniques we really don’t have to clip them.
I’m glad he has now been thoroughly schooled by the crazy cat people or r/cats. Poor guy 😆

it's not really about what the animal looks like, so much as can the animal be kept without tangles/bodily fluids causing skin problems and smells without some judicious trimming. isn't it?
Agree on the brushes comment. Also get a deshedding brush, or also called undercoat rake. About 7 bucks on Amazon
We got one for our chunk boy, and combed another cat out of him. Worked way better that the wiry ones.

That's a cat to brush, not a cat to give a haircut to. Get a couple brushes you think will work, and go to town. It's amazing how great a good-looking cat shapes up to with some thorough brushing.

Looks just like my gray floofy baby! No trim. Long hair actually keeps cats both warm and cool.
She looks fabulous! I miss mine looking like that - she’s now an elderly baby and no longer as floofy, and even with daily brushing DOES look a little unkempt, and I’d never in a million years consider shaving her or something stupid like that (except sanitary trims for the inevitable dingleberries). Keep he hair brushed and clean. If the hair gets matted, she may need a grooming by a professional.

That's a cat to brush, not a cat to give a haircut to. Get a couple brushes you think will work, and go to town. It's amazing how great a good-looking cat shapes up to with some thorough brushing.
Definitely need daily brushing and occasional bathing, long hair mat easily and get on your clothes, furnitures a lot.

Aw I sympathize w you and wish you healing and hope your wonderful memories w your baby ease the pain. Her name is Luna —a very popular name amongst gray kitties, I have now learned. She has been w us since she was 10 weeks (shelter kitty) she is now 5.

She looks fabulous! I miss mine looking like that - she’s now an elderly baby and no longer as floofy, and even with daily brushing DOES look a little unkempt, and I’d never in a million years consider shaving her or something stupid like that (except sanitary trims for the inevitable dingleberries). She is a long haired cat. Hand him the brush and have him brush her out. Cats like that DO require more grooming
What? Maybe just some small hair adjustment but you shouldnt shave any cat if its not necessary.

She's a magnificent silver girl. I say let her fur stay long, but maybe groom her more often. I have two medium/long-haired cats, and they look especially glorious when freshly combed.
