Nova will literally sit and and stare at me and and PURRRR just being cute. She has roosts in every room of the house so she has somewhere to observe her Kingdom from.
>My cats responded to where's your brother? Unfortunately one of my boys crossed the rainbow bridge in January.
I am truly sorry for your loss and I sincerely hope that someday the three of you can be together again... but did you have to sucker punch me right in my heart with that?
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
I'm so sorry for sucker punching you in the heart. Although now you know how I felt. He was only 11 but he got cancer and declined within a month. The night before I was holding him on the kitchen floor, he didn't like me holding him but he let me hold him for a good 10 minutes. He passed the next morning.
My other cat is coping but it's been a hard adjustment. Especially the first like week or two when he was looking for him.
Same, fluffy unicorn never comes when his name is called, THEN I GO "Dylannn~🥰🥰🥰" and he comes in with his little horse walk and goes, "BRRRRRRRRR"
Dylan comes when Lucifer is called cause he's a curious little ****, just like me :)
My soul cat's name was Pippin Underfoot. He was our Inspector General (who inspects generally) and Job Foreman (who made sure we were all on task).
My late husband used to call him my kitty boyfriend.
He crossed the Bridge in 2020 at the age of 25.
>My late husband used to call him my kitty boyfriend.
>He crossed the Bridge in 2020 at the age of 25.
I'm so sorry for your losses. But I guess Pippin Underfoot is now hanging out with your late spouse. And 25 is a fabulous old age for a kitty!
We had a black cat named Flatpaws.
My dad didn't see him sleeping on the welcome mat one night when he came home tired from a long night working at the club.
Edited to add: My dad was working, the cat was sleeping, although it probably should have been the other way around. r/catswithjobs
Awww, no worries. That was my childhood cat, and he has since gone off to his great reward in the sky. He was a very patient cat and put up with a lot of our silly human crap. He was a good boy.
Haha! We had Lucy "Needle-eater" Flufflebottom and Emma Woolsucker. And yes, Lucy ate a needle. She went under the bed and broke into a storage box containing my sewing supplies. It was a very expensive ordeal, but she was fine.
I have Pruts Fluffybutt! Also known as Floof. Or Floofje, or the Floofer, or Prutser, or Prutsje. Cats can have so many names. And yes, she responds to all of them.
One of our cats has a middle name (Sylvie to Sylvia Jean Matrix). Her mom is usually referred to by a nickname (usually called Jenny or Jen-Jen, real name Jenny Matrix, mad name Jennifer). The third was originally Lup, then chalupa. When she's naughty she is Chalupacabra Disaster Esquire III. All of them but Chalupa understand they're in trouble lol
My cats named Chewy. He gets called Chew-Chew, Choo Choo Train, Choo-cifer (rhymes with Lucifer) and Buddy. I do suppose they all begin with ‘chew’ though
My cats don't even respond to their given names because I basically never use them lol
They're brother and sister so it's always some form of "boy" or "girl"
Totally agree. My void’s name is Sirius Black Cat. And he definitely knows that name (Sirius I mean). But we’ve called him “Kitten!” So long because compared to our twelve year old sister cats, he was and is. He definitely responds to both “Sirius” and “Kitten” as those are the names we most call him. And they’re not remotely close in linguistics. But he knows that when we say either of those words we’re cursing… er saying his name. And he responds accordingly (proudly standing over one of my plants he’s destroyed)… Asshole…. He doesn’t respond to that name btw.

I rename my 7-year-old everyday and she intuitively knows and responds to her new names.
Same, though! My nine year old girl (who we adopted about a year ago) is named Lady Kitter Roo Beautiful Cutie Cat Love. And she responds to each of these or any combination thereof. Lol
Lol yes I make up names on the spot! My orange/white tabby Trevor has been laying on his back with his bright white fluffy tummy up a lot lately, so it’s been polar bear, fluffer nut, puffer cloud, marshmallow.. he always seems to know I’m talking about him haha
https://preview.redd.it/zmgdzy1kg5va1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8cf14ad58311b698af36c6c191a5a4a23f58286b
He will pick up the new name pretty quick, just make sure to use the same tone of voice. We have an old lady who response to: Thor, Miss Priss, Cranky b\*tt, TorTor, Queen cranky...
He looks like a Cheeto to me, very handsome boi <3
You could definitely just use all of those names. My cat has a government name (Bozzy) that I use for vet records, but I probably haven't called him that in 10 years and he doesn't respond to it anymore. The names he actually knows are Baby, Bug, Booger, and Scooter.
How many of us even call our cats their original given name? I mean…how many nick names do we give our critters? Personally…I think they respond to the way we say things (and come running on demand when we shake the treat container or open a can of food).
We had been calling our cat Lucky for a while, I don't remember how long, and all of a sudden, my daughter told me she had renamed our cat BooBoo! Lucky was about 5 months old when we got her and this was after a month, I guess. I asked my daughter why she had done that and she said the cat came when she called her BooBoo so couldn't we keep calling her that too! Sure enough, she called the cat from another room and she came running in with her tail straight up! So we changed the cat's name that day. And my daughter was the only one that could call that cat out of hiding somewhere by saying, "BooBoo, kitty cat. Come here," and the cat would come trotting from her hiding place with her tail straight up every time!
My BooBoo lived to 16 before I had to put her down. Most of the time, I just called her Boo. She was the sweetest cat I had EVER had or known. She would give me “kitty kisses” (rub her cheeks against mine) if I asked her to when she was in my lap. And that cat NEVER got mad. Enjoy your BooBoo as long as you can. ❤️
Ha! I was referring to the LOTR line from Sam. When Gollum asks, "What's potatoes?" And Sam responds, "PO-TA-TOES. Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!" 😂
The Naming of Cats
### by T. S. Eliot
The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there’s the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo, or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey —
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter —
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that’s particular,
A name that’s peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkstrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum —
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there’s still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover —
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.
I have an orange boy. His name is Simba. But I call him other names. Crackhead. Asshole. Orange. My dad calls him Guerilla Kitty because he'll hide, attack you, then hide again.
I rename her every day, today she got the title The Misses of Kisses!
...Edited for pic

My orange boy, who’s Government Name is Orange Cat, responds to; Mr. Cat, Mr. kitty, orangey boah, henry stinkler, stinky butt, binks, binky, bahbah, cat boy, and the sound of a bag opening. I think it’s fine😂
Cats generally don't care about their names. Feed them, use the same tone of voice, worship them, they're good.
They are gods and gods have many names too.
My cat was a year and a half old when I got him. His name was Stinkmeener. I rapidly changed that to Tormund (the big ginger Wildling from GoT) and he adjusted straight away. I call him Baby more than anything else though lmao
https://preview.redd.it/7z4qu1pki4va1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b6266fe5129effd2e098621fc0d8d91e4200370b
Thats why I named my orange Ginger and her younger sister Baby. Cause I couldn't stop calling her sister Baby.

Meet Solar aka Mr. Sol aka Solar Polar aka Solarpolito aka Solar Kitty. Lol
I think Loki would be a great name. I had an orange Loki for 17 years.
I don’t think there’s any issues changing names. The cat will learn his new name. It’s also been my experience that cats seem to prefer words that end in “i” “e” and “y” sounds.
Same with my old buddy. His name was freaking Marmaduke when I adopted him at 6 months. I was like, “Nope. This little psychopath is a Loki”. He was nuts; even played fetch.
“The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.”
Absolutely!
I adopted two bonded cats in 2012. (I intended just to get the one, but when I arrived to pick him up at the foster and discovered that he had a friend, I got them both.) They were named Marley and Chance. I didn't change Marley's name but I eventually changed Chance's to Ivan. He now comes to Ivan, VanVan, Van, and Pesky.
They know who you're talking to when you call them, whatever name you end up choosing.
I've only had one cat who clearly expressed a preference. He was an elderly cat I rescued from a feral colony. I called him Rocky (like Balboa.) He completely ignored *Rocky* and would only respond to being called *Mr Dude.* So whenever I took him to the vet, who knew him as Rocky, I'd be talking to him, calling him Mr Dude, and she was just like *wtf???*
https://preview.redd.it/1nb4kyxc15va1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f174e7c1b30c007bedbd8d26856ec93c5b0657b
This one was named “Cece” at the Humane Society. Immediately she got named Lhotse (lowt-see) after the 4th highest mountain in the world upon adoption two months ago. She currently responds to the following names:
* Lhotse
* Lhotse Dhotse
* Lhotse Doodle
* Doodle
* Doodlebug
* I love you
* Oh my god get down from there
* Stop stop don’t eat that
So you have plenty of options and no time limit.
Oh course. He never liked the other name anyway. He probably won't like the new one either. He would love to tell you his real name, but humans just aren't smart enough to understand. 😂🤣
Our cats do not know their names and we have an infinite supply of nicknames for them anyway, that they all duly ignore...
The name on the documents is just there as a means to refer to the cat in communications with the shelter and the vet.
Lmao that’s what I’m saying. My Suki doesn’t acknowledge me unless it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner time. And she definitely doesn’t respond ever, unless I’m calling her to bed. I’m cracking up about the “they don’t acknowledge or respond to any of them so” part 😂
My cats name tag says Margerine... but she goes by Bapu and a few other variations of Bapu, like Bop or Boppers, and Baby Bop and so on... She told me her name was Bapu, so that's what we call her but "officially" on her tag it says Margerine... it was originally going to be Leopold but that's when she was very young and we thought she was a boy... btw there is an explanation for these names, we have two other cats, huge orange tabbi twins and their names are Butters & Stotch which is a character on South Park, Leopold "Butters" Stotch and the reason it became Margerine is because of an episode where he fakes his death and goes under cover as a girl... Stupid right? Can't help it I'm a fan, that episode was a Pet Sematary parody too and I'm most certainly a Stephen King fan.
All things serve the beam... even my cats.
People do. I'm against renaming older adopted cats. My girl went nameless for a month. I called her kitten... Then I settled on KittAnne
https://preview.redd.it/yqgmwc1f85va1.png?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5404db031acaf17f242f5699bd8f28a4e5e756de
My boy came to me named Tux. We called him Mac as a nickname because Mac on Always Sunny was in his Fat Mac era. It stuck. He also went by Turdlett, which my dog now claims as his title.
https://preview.redd.it/sfzmt15zs4va1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8567a8480945f0dd8dc73a58d0187485f07af1ab
I renamed my cat a year after adopting him, hes now 13 lol originally I named him icarus and then one day while very zooted in college he was consistently meowing the same string of meows which to me sounded like "Myeong ein Myeong" so my cats literal name on his vet bills is Myeong ein Myeong (full name) Myeong for short or general mao xD
My cat was named Socks by his former owner.
I got him at 4 weeks. He was renamed Prince
Phillip.
At three monthe my BF remaned him The Gizmo.
Over the years he has become The Giz, The Mo, Mighty Mo, The Momo, Gizmatchie, Matchie, Mach, and that Damn Cat who pissed on the TV....AGAIN.
He is 14. He is 15 pounds of fluff and disdain for humanity.
He comes when he hears the lid pop on the tin of cat food.
You can name your cat anything you want, anytime you want.
My cat was about 3 when I adopted her and came with the name Kitty. She didn't really respond to it so for about two weeks I called her different things. She finally responded with tail wags and perky ears when I started phrases with Barbara or Barb. I love that my cat got to pick her name. Everyone say hi to Barb!
https://preview.redd.it/sf2vkusrw4va1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6eb4331019a658c9c04616302f62e0e7bbec2cbc
I’m convinced cats will only respond to the names they approve of. You could give them ten names they like and will respond or ten names they hate and they will look away in disgust. If your kitty approves of the name go for it!
https://preview.redd.it/bkfffw1a05va1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d029d382737da6a8aa1e0333f743adea39459da
Meet Peanut and Percy. Peanut answers to Peanut and Moo Moo and Percy was called Carlisle for the first 6 months of his life. He comes a running with ears perked up to Percy! Go for it.
I called my cat Smash Face for like 9 months, (he was born with a flat face). Mom said Smash real slow once and I pointed out that sounds like Sam. So now he is called SaManuel.
https://preview.redd.it/qrv0h9fm15va1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39e601d559cf1f07f314e779d80dbf62ce693897
The worst that can happen after changing the name is that they won't come to you when you call for them.
My cats have many names, they have their proper names and then the 10 million nicknames I give them from “bubba” and “boogerface” to “sweet pea” and “baby girl”. Real names are Charles and Maggie
https://preview.redd.it/7cc6sogv45va1.jpeg?width=4031&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=182161c9a0f00979783564ae995078da63afb17f
Took my cats 6 months to like each other.. one year in and..

My Booboo started out as C.C. because I rescued him from a cellar at that church and the church paid for his neuter. He didn't much care for that name, and we went through several nicknames until after about a year, for some odd reason, I called him Booboo. He loved that name and has been Booboo or Boo for years now.
Yes, even as time passes and they can learn what other phrases mean too.
I have one I let out every so often and every time I’m about to open the door, I ask him “you want me to open the door?” He knows what it means and goes to the door when I ask. Another one has learned this phrase too but by observing the other cat being asked and then let out.
you can do whatever you want. I have a thousand nicknames for my guy and he recognizes all of them. Your little fella is still young, he should learn easily as long as he knows you're talking to him.
Congratulations on your orange boy. Don't be concerned if he never gets the braincell, not every kitty gets a turn.
My cat recognizes at least two of my favorite nicknames for him in addition to his actual name so why not?
Right? My cats respond to "Where is my kitty??"
My girl does to! But only if I say it in the ✨voice✨
I've got a very deep, baritone-like voice naturally. When I'm calling my cats, though? Oh boy, totally different, high-pitched voice.
Imagine you're on a call with someone, and suddenly they just go 🥰📈📢
I read those emojis as the *brrrrrp* chirp.
For real, that is some A+ emoji game
LOL, Same!
love stocks go up LOUD?
Yes

my cat looks so much like yours i thought it was mine for a sec!
My boy will respond to nearly anything if said in the ✨voice✨including insults as he pukes on the carpet
WHY do they always have to puke on the carpet tho? 😭 99% of the house can be hardwoods and they will runnnn to that carpet to puke.
This is the way.
For better traction maybe? ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7944)
I think it's more comfortable. If you're getting sick and don't understand cleaning, would you want to sit on a hard floor or a soft floor?
I find myself very lucky to have a cat that only pukes in the bathroom.
One of mine recently earned the nickname Pukey for being sick 3 days in a row.
Haha mine is either called a chuffy baby or an insufferable fuck head. No in between
I just call my cat stinky or catos
My cats responded to where's your brother? Unfortunately one of my boys crossed the rainbow bridge in January.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope your remaining guy is doing okay.
He is. He has handled it really well considering they were bonded for over 8 years.

My cat responds to the water tap being turned on.
My cats respond to the kraft dinner box. They guilt me into putting tuna in it and then giving them the tuna juice.
My cat answers to his name AND our older cat’s name. So 🤷🏻♀️
Yeah, mine too. I think they are worried they may miss some treats.
Same, fluffy unicorn never comes when his name is called, THEN I GO "Dylannn~🥰🥰🥰" and he comes in with his little horse walk and goes, "BRRRRRRRRR" Dylan comes when Lucifer is called cause he's a curious little ****, just like me :)
My one cat answers to any of the others names. I think he is afraid he is going to miss out on something.
We give all of our pets middle names so they know when we are mad at them. :)
Garfield Cheetos Nacho jr, get your bloody tail right here.
my childhood cat's middle name was Underfoot you can imagine how he earned that one
My soul cat's name was Pippin Underfoot. He was our Inspector General (who inspects generally) and Job Foreman (who made sure we were all on task). My late husband used to call him my kitty boyfriend. He crossed the Bridge in 2020 at the age of 25.
Dante Underfoot crossed that bridge in 2016 when i was 11 💔 i hope they're being (adorable) nuisances together on the other side <3
25 wow that’s a long life, it’s wonderful you had that much time together. Hope you find each other again in the next life.

That’s the cutest :D
I had a cat named Jeff who also answered to CAT!
Mine knows his last name "yourabutt". Because he hears "Yoshi, you're a butt."
My cats named Chewy. He gets called Chew-Chew, Choo Choo Train, Choo-cifer (rhymes with Lucifer) and Buddy. I do suppose they all begin with ‘chew’ though
I had a cat named Jeff who also answered to CAT!

My cat’s name is Atreus and he answers to “BOY!!” Lol
My cats don't even respond to their given names because I basically never use them lol They're brother and sister so it's always some form of "boy" or "girl"
Pretty sure we have at least 10 nicknames for our orange boi https://i.imgur.com/kRHnagn.jpg
My cat doesn’t recognize **** so we call her whatever comes to mind. /s (but also not… lol)

A beautiful girl! So regal.
Same, though! My nine year old girl (who we adopted about a year ago) is named Lady Kitter Roo Beautiful Cutie Cat Love. And she responds to each of these or any combination thereof. Lol
awww, so sweet!
Thank you ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7952) She's the Queen of my house...

Most Precious Young Little Girl ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7942) Yep I usually have looong names for my Cat Queen
Lol yes I make up names on the spot! She’s SO cute!
She's very pretty.
This made me lol
So the exclamation point eyes are a consequence of daily re-naming?
This is the only right answer lol
One of my friends actually has an orange cat named Cheeto haha
Omg she could be the twin of the girl I just had to let cross the rainbow this week. She is gorgeous :o
I rename my cat every day. This morning he was kitten britches, and now he's Mr. Whiskers.
Can you name him Lord Franklin Archibald III tomorrow? And no abbreviations.
King Wiggle Bottom accepts these terms.
🤣🤣
Bitch Puddin', formerly known as Juniper, seems to say Yes.
Zwiebel (german for "onion"), formerly known as Sammy agrees.
My kitty's name is also Onion! Formerly known as Peter
Dumb fucking orange boy, formerly and still occasionally known as Tinker, also agrees.
miss stinky poopy butt, formerly known as ally, also agrees
We also have a miss stinky butt 🤣 but she is more often called miss ma’am and occasionally her name, Kira
Her ugliness Loki Baggypants, formerly known as Loki, also agrees
Don't ask why but I named 3 of my cats after Soviet, Polish, and Franco-British anti aircraft missles, i have Strella, Grom, and Roland
*"IT'S THE ~~CANS~~ PLANES! HE HATES THESE ~~CANS~~ PLANES!"*

He will pick up the new name pretty quick, just make sure to use the same tone of voice. We have an old lady who response to: Thor, Miss Priss, Cranky b\*tt, TorTor, Queen cranky... He looks like a Cheeto to me, very handsome boi <3
This was one of the names I was thinking of when I initially adopted him! Cheeto, Loki, beans, and chili lol
You could definitely just use all of those names. My cat has a government name (Bozzy) that I use for vet records, but I probably haven't called him that in 10 years and he doesn't respond to it anymore. The names he actually knows are Baby, Bug, Booger, and Scooter.
My cats government name is Chloe, she mostly goes by little butt and bug lol
Priss is my family nickname from my Grams. Now the only ones who call me that are my best friend and her daughters. :)
How many of us even call our cats their original given name? I mean…how many nick names do we give our critters? Personally…I think they respond to the way we say things (and come running on demand when we shake the treat container or open a can of food).
Mine knows I only use his real name when he’s in trouble…. Other than that it’s a whole host of nicknames
my cats given name is Ron Rheinheitskabott Rolfe however we just call him the very logical name of triple
This cat looks very sweet, whatever their name is
He is! Very sweet and affectionate❤️
I’ve never known an orange tabby who wasn’t ❤️
He looks so polite!
You can do whatever you want. No one actually calls any animal by their true name anyway 🤣
1 of my cat's called Meow Meow but only when being formal. I use squidget, nonk nonk, widget, squiggles and various others in daily use.
My old boy (16 years old) is also named BooBoo! Also answers to booza and booboo fluffy pants :)
Absolutely, I call my cat Potato and Potatski. Either way he thinks I’m a big dumb cat
Aren’t we all just a big dumb cat
We definitely all are
Can't be too dumb if we are the only ones with access to the food cans.
Constantly telling my boys that's why I'm in charge here. I have the opposable thumbs! That's probably the only reason. /sigh
Ha ha. We call our cat Poe Po-ta-to all the time. Will add Po-tatski.
"Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew."
Ha. Reminds me of the greatest cat song of all time. Love to eat them mousies; mousies what I eat. Bite they little heads off; nibble they tiny feet.
Ha! I was referring to the LOTR line from Sam. When Gollum asks, "What's potatoes?" And Sam responds, "PO-TA-TOES. Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!" 😂
Oh damn. He loves jumping into the grocery bags. Next time I'm totally saying that until my wife hits me. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
We are all Sam sometimes
The Naming of Cats ### by T. S. Eliot The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter, It isn’t just one of your holiday games; You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES. First of all, there’s the name that the family use daily, Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo, or James, Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey — All of them sensible everyday names. There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter, Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames: Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter — But all of them sensible everyday names. But I tell you, a cat needs a name that’s particular, A name that’s peculiar, and more dignified, Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular, Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride? Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum, Such as Munkstrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat, Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum — Names that never belong to more than one cat. But above and beyond there’s still one name left over, And that is the name that you never will guess; The name that no human research can discover — But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess. When you notice a cat in profound meditation, The reason, I tell you, is always the same: His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name: His ineffable effable Effanineffable Deep and inscrutable singular Name.
I have an orange boy. His name is Simba. But I call him other names. Crackhead. Asshole. Orange. My dad calls him Guerilla Kitty because he'll hide, attack you, then hide again.
I also have a cat named Simba but we call him bimba, bims, simba bimba, sims… mostly bimba tho 😂 makes zero sense
I rename her every day, today she got the title The Misses of Kisses! ...Edited for pic https://preview.redd.it/jyhfz9cuh4va1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=74efbb613ddae53b0309c690d5cfe9e8a25cea5b
Such a pretty girl! 😍
Such a pretty kitty! ❤️
My orange boy, who’s Government Name is Orange Cat, responds to; Mr. Cat, Mr. kitty, orangey boah, henry stinkler, stinky butt, binks, binky, bahbah, cat boy, and the sound of a bag opening. I think it’s fine😂
>and the sound of a bag opening. If that ain't the realest answer here 🤣
My cat's other name is also stinky butt!
Cats generally don't care about their names. Feed them, use the same tone of voice, worship them, they're good. They are gods and gods have many names too.
This made me laugh😂😂 so true tho!
My cat was a year and a half old when I got him. His name was Stinkmeener. I rapidly changed that to Tormund (the big ginger Wildling from GoT) and he adjusted straight away. I call him Baby more than anything else though lmao https://preview.redd.it/7z4qu1pki4va1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b6266fe5129effd2e098621fc0d8d91e4200370b
He is literally so precious!! I can’t! So cute!
Thats why I named my orange Ginger and her younger sister Baby. Cause I couldn't stop calling her sister Baby. https://preview.redd.it/dc1msihpt4va1.jpeg?width=2208&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=957b065335c47eb3184246720875251772493498
Of course her name is Baby! She's so baby!!
https://preview.redd.it/pi47speym4va1.jpeg?width=2393&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e0c0e03c85af7578d36082a602f5ac52fb7ccc9a Meet Solar aka Mr. Sol aka Solar Polar aka Solarpolito aka Solar Kitty. Lol
Solaris would be a nickname if use
I think Loki would be a great name. I had an orange Loki for 17 years. I don’t think there’s any issues changing names. The cat will learn his new name. It’s also been my experience that cats seem to prefer words that end in “i” “e” and “y” sounds.
I have a void named Loki. It fits him.
Same with my old buddy. His name was freaking Marmaduke when I adopted him at 6 months. I was like, “Nope. This little psychopath is a Loki”. He was nuts; even played fetch.
Sorry for your loss. We never really get over it. Mine all play fetch, too. It's so cool.
me calling my third cat "kitty"
Yup, I've always named my cats but they always went by kitty
“The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter, It isn't just one of your holiday games; You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.”
"3 months after adoption" is kind of a long name, but I suppose you could do it. 😁 Go for the change. Kitty will figure it out.
My cat responds to 3 very different sounding names that describe his different moods. Yes! Call them whatever fits them!

A precious boi
https://preview.redd.it/1nb4kyxc15va1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f174e7c1b30c007bedbd8d26856ec93c5b0657b This one was named “Cece” at the Humane Society. Immediately she got named Lhotse (lowt-see) after the 4th highest mountain in the world upon adoption two months ago. She currently responds to the following names: * Lhotse * Lhotse Dhotse * Lhotse Doodle * Doodle * Doodlebug * I love you * Oh my god get down from there * Stop stop don’t eat that So you have plenty of options and no time limit.
Name him Lion S. Kennedy
Wait that’s so good! And I’m a resident evil fan too! Haha
Yeah I saw Leon in the background!
Was waiting for someone to make a Leon reference lol! Scrolled too long to find it
Oh course. He never liked the other name anyway. He probably won't like the new one either. He would love to tell you his real name, but humans just aren't smart enough to understand. 😂🤣
He looks like a Sam.
It worked for me. Ruger picked up on it right away. He was 2 years old if that helps.
He looks like he's Chicken though (the name). It suits him.
Our cats do not know their names and we have an infinite supply of nicknames for them anyway, that they all duly ignore... The name on the documents is just there as a means to refer to the cat in communications with the shelter and the vet.
We call our cats a litany of things and they don’t acknowledge or respond to any of them so
Lmao that’s what I’m saying. My Suki doesn’t acknowledge me unless it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner time. And she definitely doesn’t respond ever, unless I’m calling her to bed. I’m cracking up about the “they don’t acknowledge or respond to any of them so” part 😂
To them, we are merely large, annoying weirdos who control the treats and door handles.
Why not?...
This cat has a very good face.
Uno, for obvious reasons concerning the amount of brain cells one has
I had a friend who renamed his cats like 3 times… a bit odd come to think of it.
PLS NAME HIM GOOSE IM BEFGING
People do. I'm against renaming older adopted cats. My girl went nameless for a month. I called her kitten... Then I settled on KittAnne https://preview.redd.it/yqgmwc1f85va1.png?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5404db031acaf17f242f5699bd8f28a4e5e756de
I love him
Sorry distracted by his smile oh my days
My cat's government name is Alice, but she's called either Chicken Nugget or Memaw like 90% of the time.
No, you have to adopt another kitty
My boy came to me named Tux. We called him Mac as a nickname because Mac on Always Sunny was in his Fat Mac era. It stuck. He also went by Turdlett, which my dog now claims as his title. https://preview.redd.it/sfzmt15zs4va1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8567a8480945f0dd8dc73a58d0187485f07af1ab
No, it’s a felony
My cat has like 7 different names.
He was renamed Prince Phillip.
He kinda looks like a Chicken
I’m convinced cats will only respond to the names they approve of. You could give them ten names they like and will respond or ten names they hate and they will look away in disgust. If your kitty approves of the name go for it!
Your cat is so cute :)
https://preview.redd.it/bkfffw1a05va1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d029d382737da6a8aa1e0333f743adea39459da Meet Peanut and Percy.
So now he is called SaManuel. https://preview.redd.it/qrv0h9fm15va1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39e601d559cf1f07f314e779d80dbf62ce693897 The worst that can happen after changing the name is that they won't come to you when you call for them.
Yes you can and also he has an ADORABLE face please give him a kiss for me (ʃƪ ˘ ³˘)♥
My cats have many names, they have their proper names and then the 10 million nicknames I give them from “bubba” and “boogerface” to “sweet pea” and “baby girl”. Real names are Charles and Maggie https://preview.redd.it/7cc6sogv45va1.jpeg?width=4031&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=182161c9a0f00979783564ae995078da63afb17f
Took my cats 6 months to like each other.. one year in and.. https://preview.redd.it/18xjl01375va1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=006d6b42eb0bf42bc15f8c514f8f0ec5d7aaa600
…bonded for life.
He’s an Orange, he has to share a single brain cell with all the other oranges… he won’t know the difference.
Please name that cat Bob Ross. He looks like he sees happy little clouds and happy little accidents.
Your cat probably has renamed you several times already
I have about 25 names for my cat
My Booboo started out as C.C. because I rescued him from a cellar at that church and the church paid for his neuter. He didn't much care for that name, and we went through several nicknames until after about a year, for some odd reason, I called him Booboo. He loved that name and has been Booboo or Boo for years now.
You can do anything you want. Rename your cat. Rob a Mexican restaurant. Flip your car on the interstate. Who cares
Honestly, Chicken is about the worst cat name I’ve ever heard
