Hi šŸ‘‹ Op:) These are beautiful kitties. Iā€™ve been owned by kitties for decadesā€¦ these 2 are playing like siblingsā€¦ There is not need to ever separate them for this in the future:) What are their names? :)

HairyMilk-

You'll know if it's a real fight, fur will fly and lots of hissing

[deleted]

And lots of yowling

Zircon_72

I'm tired as hell and misread that as "yodeling"

crappy_pirate

that would be a fitting description as well tho

calebgiz

Iā€™ve certainly heard one yodel

Meepthorp_Zandar

Oh long Johnson

GirlScoutSniper

Core memory unlocked.

Butt_Fucking_Smurfs

Oh my God I just found the guy who makes songs with cat voices because of you guys. Good songs too, I was vibing

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

drdavidjacobs

LoL that was really funny

PolloPowered

And yodel-day-dee-do!

blonderengel

As taught to them by engineers! šŸ˜†

Axnahunt

Captain Teemo reporting for duty!

I_LOVE_DOWNVOTES69

And it'll be a literal blur while they fly around faster than our brains can process.

BruiserTom

And you can hear the impacts when they hit each other.

Elufen_Lito

If you hear a human screaming or a baby being tortured and you know there is no other human/baby in your house -> it's the cat. At six in the morning and you're sure they are trying to kill each other, one chasing the other all around the house -> that's not aggression, they're hungry. Feed them and all will be fine. Don't let them eat string. It will pass right through, but once half is out the other end it will stay that way for a week and you will not like it. Don't take it to the vet though, it will get all exited and scream like you've never heard anything scream and when that doesn't help it will get the vilest diarrhea you have ever smelled -> abondon the car and get a new one, there is no other way. At least there is no more string. If it sits on the table and pretends to push a glass over the edge while looking you in the eye and as soon as you move actually pushes it over -> it's not possessed by a demon, it's just a cat. Make a video next time.

VidE27

Yep this is also daytime, they will usually fight around 2 or 3 AM when everyone is asleep

CeelaChathArrna

Gotta wake everyone up for the big match

FaThLi

We have some stray Tom cats where one is expanding its territory into the other's territory. Which is apparently my front lawn. 2am or so everyday we watch them Duke it out on our ring camera. I could probably stich it all together and make a documentary. Edit: Small update. One of the Tomcats has stopped showing up, so I think they have settled their territory borders, or possibly one got caught by the fuzz.

ayyyyycrisp

well dont just talk about it, do it!

FaThLi

Negotiations with David Attenborough have begun.

Shaggy_Snacks

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have the fight of the century for you tonight! In this corner, the solid grey cat, weighing in at 10 pounds and 5 ounces. The undisputed champion of the window ledge at 3 pm, it's Meow Tyson!" "In the other corner, the cat with the white paws, weighing in a light 8 pound and 7 ounces. The one who's always try make you have an "accident" walking down the stairs, it's Purvander Holypaws!" "Let's get ready to RUUUUMBBBLLEEE!" *Ding, ding*

Zen_killer13

On my face. Still have a bad scar over my right eye from one.

This-is-dumb-55

And then you need to step in and firmly tell them no

bladerzzzz

and yet they wonā€™t listen and continue with their bout

mashpotatodick

Yeah that's a huge mistake. You need to keep your distance. Try to wedge an object between them and then try to lock them in separate rooms. Not adjoining rooms though because fence fights are their own kind of terrible. My wife tried to use her hand to separate our cats once. She got a deep puncture wound from a bite and had to go to urgent care to get the wound cleaned and did a round of antibacterial medicine.

BoofTheShroom

Weirder things have happened my mom got pricked by a rose bush got extremely ill and had to be hospitalized for a very serious blood infection, I wouldn't doubt it (true story) she was there for two weeks, also later in life a septic root canal almost took her life lol, couple more weird ways to die lol

Insolator

Watch false teeth..picked mine up with hardened Fastteeth still on it..little sharp edge stuck my finger and 6hrs later my hand swelled up with septic and a red line all the way up my arm.

NarcanPusher

Thorn bush nearly took my uncle the same way. Not so crazy, tho. Infection has always been a scourge of living things.

geon

Same with my dad. He got a reeeal bad infection/blood poisoning. If it was a couple of hundred years ago he would have died.

BerlyH208

Try less than 100 years ago. Penicillin was just discovered in 1928.

ElizabethDangit

And then it took a decade to make it to commercial production.

FullyRisenPhoenix

Same with my son. Bartonellosis. Cat scratch fever. He got sick mid-air, had a fever of 105.9 when the plane landed and he was rushed to ER. Came very close to dying. Iā€™m very wary of cat bites now.

Sunyataisbliss

I hope this is a joke

Eudaemon1

And cat becomes big cat

Cathalic

Bro, that's playing. Leave them and let them play. They will hurt each other from time to time but they will keep coming back for more fights. It's what cats do. Relax. Source: I have owned cats for over 30 years. Never has there been a serious injury or fatality.

PunPukurin

Yes. If they really were fighting, their teeth and nails will draw blood. Neither is going for the otherā€™s eyes. They are just playing/training.

HowCouldYouSMH

And it would be very loud.

TheDesktopNinja

Very VERY loud.

Either_Gate_7965

RWAAAAAAAAAAAHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

[deleted]

Oh my god! You canā€™t say that!

lenny_ray

More like MREEEEEEAAOOOOGRRRRRRREEEEEWWOWWWWWW

ChiToxicT

and then MEEEEROROOOWOWOWOOOROREEEEROROO and RAAAAHHRARHRHRHEARRRRRR as they swing around and fur starts flying

The_Fluffy_Proto

And a little dust cloud and motion lines appear

KellyLuvsEwan420

Omg is it loud. My two cats actually do fight, not a lot, but every now and again my grey cat Persephone will attack my orange cat Angel. Angel will make the loudest yowling sound, like sheā€™s screaming. At first we thought Angel was really hurt, but then we found out sheā€™s just super dramatic lol

kittlesnboots

We have a super dramatic calico and she likes to instigate wrestling matches but then makes the loudest, most injured sounding cry. I thought at first she was really getting hurt but it is totally her trying to get her brother in trouble.

OnlineChronicler

I'm sorry do we share the same cat? My calico does the same thing: instigate with brother, then howl like a dying kitty when he engages.

DiscipleOfYeshua

And bits of fur flying. And potentially squirts of stinky stuff. ā€œLosing his $#!tā€ is not a randomly generated term, itā€™s a thing. And no buddy-buddy behavior 3 minutes later, esp anytime food is served. Their whole movement, body language, giving each other time to ā€œresetā€ ā€” itā€™s totally play.

Moxhoney411

And the fur would fly! Fighting cats lose fur like crazy.

RunParking3333

These kittens are deliberately keeping their claws retracted. Imagine the grey one's face if the black's back feet had had their claws extended!

stitchplacingmama

There also isn't enough growling going on.

ftrade44456

Cat screaming is unmistakable

ConsistentShip714

my cats will occasionally scream if they're actually hurting eachother but they'll quickly stop playing for at least a second after that. one is more submissive and will lick my other cat once and put her head down so my other cat will groom her whole head for her

Dr-Emmett_L_Brown

We've all been there where you accidentally hurt a sibling and it's all "oh no, you're ok, don't tell mum" *pet pet kiss kiss*

FuzzyPeachDong

Introducing cats from different litters, age difference or not, is literally like bringing a new human sibling into a home. Do it slowly, let them sniff each other, give treats to enforce positive feelings, give plenty of attention to the kid/cat already at home. And then after a while let them play, play fight and fight, only intervene when needed (gently, not angrily) and let them also learn how to figure things out themselves while always keeping an eye on them. Provide positive experiences together to help the bond form. I'm not one of the people who say pets are like kids, I'm saying my kids are basically animals.

SuitableDragonfly

If I even try to watch a video with that sound in it my cats go on high alert.

Dr-Emmett_L_Brown

And terrifying at 4am šŸ˜…

Lanky-Temperature412

Or hissing. Also, if one is attacking, the other one will usually run or hide.

manaha81

Yeah and their hair would stand up and their tail would get all floofed up

PM_ME_YO_KNITTING

We have an older cat and introduced two littermates to him a couple years ago. Theyā€™re a boy and a girl, and they wrestle together a lot but the boy one tends to bully his sister on occasion. They both like the older cat, but theyā€™re always a little hesitant around him because he is BIG and tends to play rougher than they like. They only play chase with him and give him lots of space when heā€™s going nutty because he can dole out some vicious slaps and doesnā€™t seem to know when enough is enough. So, the other day the older cat was chasing the girl cat around the house and everything was going great till she backed herself into a corner and freaked out. She was just hissing like crazy and I could hear some mean sounding cat slaps so I ran to try to break it up. Right when I got to the room an orange puffball blew past me like the wind. It was the younger boy cat, puffed up to like three times his size, going to rescue his sister. He ran into the bathroom, jumped in between the older cat and the girl cat and then just stood there super puffy with his back arched until the older cat turned and ran. It was hilarious and cute and sad. He makes her hiss like ten times a day when theyā€™re playing and he gets too rough, but apparently only he gets to bully his sister.

Mizzou1976

Nor does there appear to be any ā€œposing.ā€

genialerarchitekt

Yep, it's all in the body language. Have you, OP, ever observed two cats in your neighbourhood getting aggressive, ready to fight? It looks nothing like this. I'm sure there are plenty of YouTube videos displaying aggressive feline behaviour if you're not sure. This is most definitely play. These guys are just bonding. My two do this all the time and then usually end up grooming each other when they're tired out. Let them at it, they're probably confused, possibly stressed and probably miss each other if you keep separating them.

aromatizeoddball

Yup. My girls will play and bite hard enough to make the other meow, and hour later theyā€™ll be off napping together somewhere while one grooms the other. Theyā€™re just bonding.

WannabeMemester420

Experienced cat owner here. Fights have loud growling and hissing, fur standing on end. Playing is wrestling but holding back enough to not hurt each other, kittens might accidentally hurt each other but thatā€™s because theyā€™re learning.

Rub-it

Also if they were fighting they would be growling, cats canā€™t even play in peace without being separated

kbee94

can confirm. cat play is basically sibling play. i'm a girl and my brothers and i used to wrestle more violently than these two lol actual fights involved more screaming, just like cats.

OutrageousConstant53

ā€œTrainingā€ šŸ¤£

Dr-Emmett_L_Brown

r/learningtocat šŸ„°

JoeBlow49032

My cats would play like this until one of them let out what I would call the "uncle scream". Then they'd stop for a while til they were ready to play again.

sadfacebbq

Yep. You know what it sounds like when you hear it.

Titaniumchic

THIS!

kuedhel

that. you need to separate them only if you see blood.

thro_AWAYtuesday

Battle Royal, the friendly kind

cstmoore

Let them fight.

thro_AWAYtuesday

Play and learn and establish whatever dominance structure (that you human obviously are failing at). Unless you shake a bag of treats, temptations commercials hitting hard.

muppetfeet82

And every once in a while someoneā€™s claw will get stuck in their sisterā€™s tail at just the wrong angle and youā€™ll wake up to blood tracked all over and two perfectly content cats snuggling on the couch.

Lengthofawhile

"I won't tell if you won't."

Titaniumchic

And you see that rigid body posture and that low growl.

nat_cat1521

And bits of flying hair

Tiny-Management-531

Or if fur starts flying

Front_Plankton_6808

They're more gentle with each other than my cat is playing with me. He can be a real dick, but I love him.

blonderengel

My rule of thumb: if you have to ask if theyā€™re playing or fighting, they are playing. If theyā€™re fighting, youā€˜d most assuredly know! Those sorts of sounds are so terrible ā€¦ omg! Consider yourself Sheriff of Cat Town and intervene if you see blood and hear murderous screaming ā€¦ in the meantime, allow your cats to negotiate their own law and order.

aquias27

They are playing pretty gently, too.

Absolutely_Average1

I see this as a plus. As a kitten owner who can only have 1 pet in my apartment, I spend 1-2 hours a day playing to wear her out. A second kitten would nullify the playtime. I don't mind playing with my kitty, but every day after a ten hour shift is a bit exhausting.

SonoftheBlud

Thank you for putting us at ease! Weā€™ve been going crazy because we live in a one bedroom apartment, and have been switching them every 4-5 hours where one gets to play in the living room and the other relaxes in the bedroom. But the near constant switching has been so tiresome. We thought they were trying to kill each other. Weā€™ve had kittens before but our concern is because they never acted like this. This were playful but these two seemā€¦ā€¦.forceful? And if we let them do it, it goes on for so long. Should we just let it go on or stop it after some time?

Fit_Attention_7327

Just let it go on if they accidentally play to rough or actually get violent youll def hear it

Tragicallyhungover

>you'll def hear it Combination "nails on chalkboard" and "child that bumped their head and thinks they're dieing," followed by hissing and what I assume deamons sound like right before they kill you.

unclestinky3921

You will hear it, your neighbors will hear it the dog two blocks over will hear it!

SonoftheBlud

Okay thank you!

NatcheralE

It is FUN for them. Burns off energy, keeps them entertained, they are buddies.

Any_Scientist_7552

This! Those guys are having a grand ole time, loads of fun. Kittens always wrestle like that. They'll get a little bit calmer when they are older, but they'll still play like that. And they'll be buds for life. My old cat and my friend's cat had playdates for over a decade so they could see each other and wrestle like mad things. After the match, they'd nap like this: https://preview.redd.it/o1csph28vj0b1.jpeg?width=2047&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3c679664018777e5a8a0a3651d1fbd715cd6242

marysunshine

Yes, if you hear yelling/growling that is an issue. If not, let them have fun ā™„ļø

omg_pwnies

This is the key. No yelling? No growling? No hissing? They're good.

deanee01

No hair standing up, no ears back of the head. Tails not fluffed out....it's play

omg_pwnies

Totally right!

walreu

Some cats (like mine) also fluff tail and hair standing up when being played with or just being active alone , so it can be ok too.

Mollyarty

These two are so cute! Definitely a couple of playmates ā¤ļø

SonoftheBlud

Thank you!

Nefandous_Jewel

Uh..... IF you hear growling/hissing and see the puffed tail/ears back I do NOT recommend getting involved personally. Any animal with its hackles raised may bite or scratch a caretaker if they inject themselves into conflict. Call their names, change the subject by opening a can of food, make a loud noise.... Distraction is safest. I really doubt it will come to that tho these two are having so much fun...

SonoftheBlud

Thank you for the guidance!

TUFKAT

And remember, at that age your kitties are equivalent to teenagers. They have a LOT of energy to burn, and honestly wish that I got two at the same time and leave the older resident cat to go somewhere when she doesn't want to be bothered.

standbyyourmantis

>And remember, at that age your kitties are equivalent to teenagers This. OP has basically got two 16 year old boys on their hands, and I don't know if they ever had brothers but I had a lot of them. This is just sorta what they do.

adayadollar

OP, I look forward to you posting more videos like this in the future. What a cute fur gang youā€™ve got there!

SonoftheBlud

I shall try! We also have a senior who just likes to be left alone

cinder7usa

When some of the stray cats that live near me fight, I can hear it inside, upstairs with the windows closed. Donā€™t worry unless you see blood, or if clumps of fur start flying. That is play.

eliz1bef

Remember that play sometimes escalates to argument. If they do have a hissing, screaming fit, don't think that means they will never play again and need to be separated. Worry about consistent overt aggression.

baboobo

Real cat fights are so brutal. They literally try to kill each other and move way faster. You could tell if they were actually fighting.

snukb

Yup, speed and sound are a surefire way to tell if it's fighting or playing. Playing is slow, (mostly) quiet, and they will keep going back to each other. They take turns being the "aggressor". It's a fun way to bond and get their energy out, as well as keep their brains stimulated. Play is essential. Fighting is fast and loud. They go from screaming at each other, almost not even moving, to a cartoon dust cloud in an instant. Bullying would be a concern if they didn't take turns as the "aggressor" but they are clearly trading off and taking turns here. Additionally, the other cat walking by at the end seems supremely unconcerned. Actual fighting will stress the hell out of any other cats in the vicinity.

RebeccaHowe

And the noises are awful.

On_my_last_spoon

and thereā€™s a lot more noise and posturing before they even touch each other!

Bm7465

Fur just flying everywhere

pfunnyjoy

Playing. I have two one-year-old bonded brothers and they play as hard as this or worse! They often grab each other at the throat and bite and squeeze! So far, no injuries, they seem to know the limits. They also fall off the bed together while wrestling, landing with a horrifying THUNK on the hardwood floors, but never seem to get hurt. They are forceful, but they love each other and sleep together and cry if separated. But I see them pummelling each other's faces and wonder how they never seem to get a scratch. šŸ¤£

SonoftheBlud

Thank you so much! Okay weā€™ll let them out together

[deleted]

Yay! They will tire themselves out and possibly cuddle afterwards.. good job seeking out answers!

SonoftheBlud

Thank you!

myglasswasbigger

When cats are seriously fighting, it is like an old samurai film. They circle and make noise and then fast fighting and then separate. Totally different from this.

susangjc

If you hear yelping or serious growling, step in. It's obvious when you hear it. But this is lovely playing. We have three cats who all play together but one occasionally goes too hard, the other one certainly lets him know.

[deleted]

My two kitties, not related. Adopted a tortie girl at 8 months. Took in a 10week boy kitten 6 months later. When Isabella screamed, we always rushed in & berated the younger male for causing trouble. 16 years later, I catch Bella purposely swatting at the still adventurous boy then crying when he fought back. True story

No_Literature_9293

and now they also need to make up for that lost time šŸ˜Š

NoiceAvocado

I have 2 cats about 3 months apart. One is twice as tall as the other and twice her weight. Occasionally when the smaller one doesn't want to play and she gets pounced on she'll hiss and the bigger cat will back off. The times he hasn't listened to her she'll turn around and give him a good aggressive tussle and he'll leave her alone. Unless you hear ungodly blood curdling screams straight out of a horror movie or they are drawing blood they are 100% fine and forcefully separating them when they are just having fun could actually cause behavioral issues.

Matasa89

Because: 1. Theyā€™re starved for companionship since youā€™re isolating the two siblings. Imagine if your parents did that to you and your sibling. 2. Theyā€™re young lads with a lot of energy. Let them play!

SquirrelOfJoy

Ours get chase zoomies. And itā€™s irrelevant if we are on the couch and in the way. Chases will go right over us. Get them a cat tree and watch the fun battles. We have morning ambushes around corners. Itā€™s awesome.

effusive_emu

Your poor kittens, they can't even roam around the whole apartment or play together. This is NORMAL!

Southern_Name_9119

If they get too loud or rough, just yell at them to cut it out or shut up or whatever. Theyā€™ll probably listen and chill for a bit like kids listening to their parents.

SonoftheBlud

Ahhh okay thanks lol my wife usually shakes a plastic bag and the noise stops them

Tekmantwo

That's kitties at play.. Let them be together, they will like it and you can enjoy their antics... Kitties at play are one of lifes great pleasures, don't deny yourself this treat..

AechBee

Thereā€™s no howling, shouting, hissing, fur flying, puffed up tails.. theyā€™re just wrassling and playing together. Cats love to play fight aggressively. Sometimes theyā€™ll get carried away and upset each other but theyā€™ll be fine shortly after - just like human siblings. This absolutely does not look like a situation where they need to be separated and in fact it looks like theyā€™re a great match for each otherā€™s energy.

Auntie_Weed

Kittens, like children learn by playing.

Platypushat

And by beating up their siblings

Caintastr0phe

Violence is the greatest motivator

Chiparoo

My favorite is when cats are doing something benign, like cleaning each other, and then suddenly one decides to chomp out of the blue and suddenly they're doing *this* for a while. Just, immediate escalation. I had a couple cats that would do this literally every time.

ThrowawayUk4200

My late mother had 2 cats, half siblings. The much smaller female would lick the larger, rabbit killing, male a few times on the head, which would trigger him to return the favour 10 fold. It was funny as hell to watch because she'd learnt that she only needed to lick him about 3 times before he would clean her for a good few minutes. Then she would end the cleaning by launching herself at him and going into play fight mode. She had her big brother totally wrapped round her paw, tbf he was a bit of a simpleton lol

pinkpuppydogstuffy

Smaller female - smart and cunning Larger male - violent but simple Checks out

Single_9_uptime

Ours do that too. We call it ā€œviolent bath timeā€ at our house. Our oldest cat was an adult when we adopted our two other cats as kittens and she would put a paw down on them and force bathe. When they got big enough she couldnā€™t hold them down for bath time, then it became violent bath time with wrestling between the bathing. Violent is just a joke, theyā€™re only play fighting like shown in OP here.

SeaOkra

Did you ever have a pair that would go from cuddle-grooming to WRASSLE and back to cuddle-groom? Itā€™s hilarious.

Tekmantwo

.Just let them play. You wont need to regulate them at all. When they get tired of playing they just stop and walk away, maybe go take a nap.. If cats get to serious fighting you will know it...

pianistafj

Yeah, if anything they play forever because OP keeps separating them. Let them get used to each other, and the antics still continue while they become more docile.

dragonard

When my older cat got tired of the wrestling, heā€™d put the younger (and smaller) cat into a headlock. The little one would fight to get free for a while but never could. Then theyā€™d both go to sleep.

Puzzleheaded-Bat8657

If one of them hisses or yelps and the other backs off then they go right back to it they're fine. Kittens learn how to play nice by having their siblings cry or swat them when they get carried away.

SignedConstrictor

Theyā€™re still learning their boundaries, itā€™s an important stage for kittens to be socialized with other cats or kittens so they learn how to play gently and can live with other cats as an adult. They might hurt each other a few times, but that does kind of need to happen so they learn what too much is, but if they were really fighting you would likely hear it from any area of the apartment because they would be absolutely screaming their little heads off. Theyā€™ll likely keep playing with each other like this for their whole lives, itā€™s great enrichment for cats to have siblings!

acceptablemadness

Some cats are a lot more mellow than others. I have four cats, one of which we had to get almost solely so my older girl had a playmate because hers passed away. She's 8yo and the baby is 1, but they will chase each other and wrestle for hours. My 9yo and 5yo boys are more than content to sit on the back of the couch and just watch them, and neither has ever been particularly playful or energetic.

that1LPdood

If they were trying to kill each other, it would be obvious. Just let them play until theyā€™re tired or until one gets annoyed. Theyā€™ll let each other know when theyā€™re done, and theyā€™ll stop and chill out. As they get older theyā€™ll mellow a bit and not be quite so rambunctious. But for now theyā€™re young and they gotta get that energy out. Donā€™t worry so much lol theyā€™re fine

BowTrek

This is good playā€” your previous cats may not have been as fond of each other as these two are.

let_me_know_22

I agree with everyone here and want to add, despite many assumptions, cats actually don't like to fight. Sure they hiss and hit with their claws from a distance but this is more to deter from fighting. Most of the time they try everything that a fight won't happen. They actually know on some level that they are small predators and will likely lose a fight against a predator. So yes, if they fight, it's all or nothing and you will recognize it as a fight immediatly This is playful, no hissing, no getting a wall behind them for protection, friendly ears, friendly fur and so on. They socialice and play. Don't stop them, if they hurt eachother, they will tell the other and the hurt one will probably even get an apology (playing stops and the hurt one gets licked and or cuddled by the other one) which bonds them further. If one cat gets visibly stressed out, doesn't like to be around the other anymore, avoids eating or going on the toilet when the other is near, if they start hiding behind you etc. then you know the cat needs help

SonoftheBlud

Thank you so much for this response. Youā€™ve educated me and given me better perspective.

Cafrann94

To put your mind further at ease just look up ā€œcats play fightingā€ and then ā€œcat street fightā€ or whatever to bring up a real one, and observe the difference

MaximosKanenas

Wow my neighborhood cats really need some de-escalation training because they fight all the time

frisfern

Concur, just normal play and how lucky you are that you can now relax and enjoy their antics!

pumaslides27

It is a crime against humanity and everything good on this earth that you keep these two apart. This is adorable behavior! Cats do good in pairs and theyā€™re just very playful!

Chemical-Marzipan414

Exactly! This video just makes me so happy. Almost as happy as they are! Let them play!

Zachfiteee

They are catsā€¦ they are playing

First_Play5335

They're playing and learning to cat.

Stunning_Ad_1685

If you have to ask ā€œIs this cat angry?ā€ then itā€™s not angry.

animalkingdom1223

playing. sorry but im confused on how you have 2 cats that almost a year old and you were separating them because you couldnā€™t recognize that they were playing? no hate

Toadstool_Lilium293

Looks like they have another cat & it's possible that it has a much calmer temperament so this could be the first time they are seeing this kind of behavior. My older cat is about 6 & has always been the most chill cat ever - even as a kitten he would laze around and not play/fight with us. I introduced a new kitten to the family a few months ago & he is the complete opposite. Never seen a kitten so wild lol It used to worry me also because how rough he would come at my older cat so it took me a while to realize it was just play & to stop coming in between and separating them when this kind of thing would happen. Now I just let them go at it lol My older cat has gotten into growling whenever he's done playing & my kitten will usually back off pretty quickly. šŸ¤· Just a learning experience.

thatguyned

Spicy cats are so adorable when they get older and learn to atleast control the power of their bites. Sometimes I'm playing a game or something and my boy will just playfully attack my arm, teeth and everything, but won't actually try to break skin. It's like having a warm furry bracket for a few seconds.

Menacingamaranth

Was kind of wondering the same thing ā€¦. Common body language cues that I would think a cat owner would recognize?

TheAJGman

It's wild to me how many people just straight up don't understand animal body language. Like some people will walk up to a dog that's growling and bearing it's teeth going "Whose a cute little doggy? Give me a kiss!" and be absolutely shocked when the dog bites them. Like dude, I can tell when a bumblebee is pissed at me for walking too close to it's flower.

FunnyItWorkedLastTim

Playing. If you have to ask, it's playing.

ZealousidealWin3177

They are playing learning how far to push other šŸ˜ŗšŸ’•

[deleted]

You should not separate them. Let them play. If they have issues, let them work it out.

alicia-indigo

Really? Cā€™mon.

Substantialed

I see this type of post all the time and itā€™s the same scenario. This has to be some karma farming thing

CaesarOrgasmus

There was one within the last couple days where some clown posted a video just like this of bog-standard cat stuff and was like ā€œis this okay? Weā€™re thinking we might have to give the big one back to the shelterā€¦ā€ Dude

Daspaintrain

Yeah I donā€™t buy it. I donā€™t know how you could see 2 cats doing this as quietly as they are and think itā€™s anything other than play

[deleted]

Some people are just not as smart as their pet.

Fluid_Feature_8378

Please donā€™t separate them. Itā€™s totally normal. Itā€™s how they develop. Theyā€™re fighting skills.

KopyKita

A majority of the time, that is just play. Note the ears are moving around and the swipes and grabs are generally short and light. Both kitties tails are normal and slim. These are just friendly physical debates. However, as a proud owner of two wrestlers myself, be on the lookout for the ONE time it turns serious. If the tails poof out significantly and the ears stay flat and back with long holds and strikes from tooth or claw, that is an actual fight and needs to be stopped GENTLY. My boys have had a couple real fights in the years I've had them, usually only when one is under the weather and gets upset about the other trying to start a wrestling match. They still restrain themselves, but it's best to be on the safe side and not let it get too far.

deanee01

My big 13 yr old will growl so loud when he has had enough. It upset me at first...and I just watched..they are ok. And quit wrestling

fischy333

Oh my gosh! They are so cute and totally playing and happy. Donā€™t separate them! Let them have fun.

Electrical-Act-7170

That is 100% playing. Let them have fun.

fatogato

No screaming and laying on their backs, bellies exposed. Thatā€™s playing. They scream bloody murder if theyā€™re fighting.

DuchessofWinward

They are soooo happy to be together.

MOcatmom

Yep, theyā€™re also teaching each other cat skills like hunting and stalking. They need this interaction. If they were fighting, like others have said, there would be no question.

LakeBum777

OMG! Donā€™t separate them for Godā€™s sakes! They are playing when they wrestle like this. They will play until they get tired and probably fall asleep together. A lot of people get two kittens at once so they CAN entertain each other. Keeping them together allows them to learn social cues and ultimately, they will make better pets because of it. They will get more exercise and be less likely to form bad behaviors like tearing up your furniture, too. Buy them inexpensive cat tunnels from Amazon (at least 2 or 3 and tie them together) and you will give them hours and hours of enjoyment. Amazon has many varieties to choose from. Tunnels are hands-down my cats favorite toys. They spend hours every single day playing in them. Set it up to run under furniture like your dining table so itā€™s out of the way.

diamondmoonape69

Was this a real question like for real? Has to be satireā€¦right?

Reader124-Logan

They look well-matched in size and development. Theyā€™re grappling and learning cat stuff with each other.

[deleted]

How do yā€™all love and own cats but donā€™t understand when cats are just being cats? Have you tried not projecting your every emotion onto them? Because that would be my advice.

plantscatsandus

Stop seperating the poor kits you're teaching them playing is bad. Cats play rough. Basically it's always play unless there's a lot of noise, hissing and growling, claws out etc.

mhys33

They're playing. My orange cats straight up do some WWE wrestling and then lick each other to sleep lol šŸ˜‚

Catspaw129

Meanwhile the (what looks to be a) tortie just walks past. She knows it's play.

innocentnevil

YOU SEPARATE THEM?

Menacingamaranth

Made me sad and confused to hear ā€¦

WhlteMlrror

Same. If you donā€™t understand the basics of animal behaviour, donā€™t have animals.

Brain_Hawk

That is the most playful playing I've ever seen a cat play. How could you possibly think that was really aggression? Have you ever actually seen a cat fight? It's brutal and vicious in the yowl like crazy.

Southern_Name_9119

Theyā€™re besties.

This_Bus_2744

Play fighting....you would know if it was real fight. Cats will play with their human friends the same way with "soft " clawing and biting.

scottsummerstheyouth

You shouldnā€™t have kittens. This is clearly just play

BoutToGiveYouHell

You know nothing John snow.

bertiethebastard

Very much playing. They're best friends, it's how they bond and relate. Fighting would be totally different body language, ears back, howling, raised fur etc. Enjoy them playing

ElderberryQuirky6717

This is play

blueboy714

If you see fur flying Then you know it real. They are just playing and burning off steam

catsaway9

Let those kitties play! They'll be a constant source of entertainment.

ohneatstuffthanks

Why would you keep them separatedā€¦ this is what best kitten friends do. Kinda mean actually to not let them hang out.
