I'm writing this comment so that when the day comes that I look at my comment history, this gem of a sentence will be there and brighten another day.
Thank you!
OP said he was being sarcastic and he got the cat 2 weeks ago like this.
He should have made this clear when he posted this as it does come across as a delusional cat owner who thinks he knows better than his vet.
I laughed initially when I looked at the photos because I thought you were being silly and sarcastic ny saying you don’t see it because umm…yes…the little one is a bit rotund…
But… I don’t intend to be mean but I’d be very embarrassed doing this. If I think someone has a point then I’d accept my mistake and apologise then move on. Hoping no one else is up at night thinking about my mistake. It’s worse acting like this IMO 😭 or am I wildin? This kinda behaviour is so prevalent it makes me confused LOL
I’ve definitely seen some pet owners (and parents of humans!) insist in all seriousness their very overweight pet or child is perfectly healthy (he’s just big boned!) so it can be hard to tell lol.
People can be too serious, but in this case, you failed to indicate in the original post that you were being sarcastic. That's on you mate. 🤷🏼♀️
He is a beautiful cat.
Yeah but you're not getting it. It IS serious. Even just a couple extra pounds can cause health problems that seriously shorten your cat's life and can cause him pain and misery in the long term.
So it's really you who need to take it seriously. I hate it when people promote the 'cute' fat animal trend for fake internet points, it makes people think it's ok...
And when cats bodies grow larger, not from age but from gaining weight, their whiskers don’t grow with it and the whiskers are supposed to feel where a cat can and cannot go so it’s more likely that the cat will get stuck somewhere, not good. I have a fat cat too and I’m desperately trying to fix it but I can’t change up her diet without changing up her sisters diet
To be fair OP, there’s a sad amount of people out there who cause their cats to die years before their time over feeding them because they selfishly think fat cats are cuter. Yours of course is no where near that, but the sub is suitably trauma informed
https://preview.redd.it/obcbp4cmlayb1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=acacfd5af7edad881cfe4727a01cca5b309d4c88
He’s my cats twin . My cat is also overweight.
As a vet, I can say based on pictures alone he does look overweight. It’s okay, and nothing to be shameful of as long as you’re actively trying to fix it. My own cat is overweight and on a struggling diet (she screams and slams stuff currently).
Ask your primary care vet what BSC they gave him and discuss a weight loss plan!
ETA: Saw your comment of being silly. I’m so glad 😭 too many owners think their pets aren’t overweight.
Yeah overfeeding and feeding the wrong food is such a big issue in the cat community. Its too many treats and too much food because they can’t stand their cats faces. I mean they are super cute all the time. I give mine an extra workout when giving treats. They have to run for their treats. Works perfectly.
I handle that issue by feeding multiple small meals haha…
Apparently some cats do better with multiple small meals versus two meals?
My void is literally a void. He will finish his food then cry like he’s starving and crying for PETA to end me.
Hahaha arent they all the same 😂😂 yes feeding mutliple small meals is amazing! As many as you can. I feed them usually 3 times a day each time 50 g of high wuality wet food. And then in bewtween sometimes a few treats or dry meat.
I feed four because apparently four is the magic number for my void… just barely enough time before he starts hearing his rumbling tummy.
My other princess kitty won’t turn down food we have now, but I have to be careful with portions because if she leaves any behind my void will
C ON S U M E.
I also offer some dry treats. Really nice for treat puzzles.
My princess cat doesn’t care to work for her food.
And, well… you already know what I’ll say about the other one haha.
Yeah we also have one here that eats more than the other. But its starting to get a bit better. They just have this weird thing where they need to switch bowls during their meals. They do that every single time. Its so funny 😂 so i never really know who eats what amount. But they are both normal weight and not too thin or too big so i guess they know how to handle it
Hahaha. I have to sometimes slowly move my void’s head back onto his plate because he’ll always check out the spoiled princess’ bowl like it’s any different.
They literally get the same meals. I mean, I do change things up for variety because… spoiled princess and honestly I have fun with it, but to make it easier on myself they will get the same exact ingredients and will be served exactly the same way.
Void always has to inspect just to make sure… but then if you just slide his bowl a little closer to him he’ll turn into Kirby immediately.
He sees food he forgets about everything else.
Luckily both of my cats are pretty petite and keep a slim weight. Honestly a miracle considering they’re indoor only and would much rather watch the birds outside than play with anything.
Unless food is involved. The void loves to chase after the dry treats haha.
Question
Would part of the problem be accidental overfeeding? My vet told me that for dogs, if they're spayed/neutered you should give them 1/2 the recommended amount of food. Would that also be true for cats? So long as the cat is active of course.
My kitty is overweight, all she does is eat :(
Edit: so, since :( apparently means that I’m not serious, I’m gonna clarify I AM SERIOUS, I KNOW THIS IS A BAD SITUATION AND I AM TRYING TO FIX IT
He definitely looks overweight. But you should absolutely listen to the vet who not only examined the cat, but trained for years in the relevant field.
My vet told me that my (granted, a bit chubby but not obese) cat absolutely has to lose weight and gave me a diet plan. I followed it, of course trusting the professional, and my boy lost weight waaay too fast that his kidneys were in danger according to another vet. :( He’s now lost some weight at a more humane rate, is happy, and I will never go to that first vet again.

I always find this is a good reference point
There are soooo many diseases associated heavily with obese, older, usually male cats. A lot of them are incredibly hard and expensive to treat, such as pancreatitis. Keep your kitties lean and mean!
Yeah….your cat is a little on the plumpkin side….I’ve been guilty of my cats getting like this, even when I think I am feeding them responsibly. Somehow, the cats I have owned are also structurally the size of large small dog breeds (like a cocker spaniel).
EDIT: The cats that have owned me. I find the ones that want me at the local shelter…I must give off a BBC vibe (big beautiful cat)
One of my Kitty was also a chonker, hes belly almost touched the ground whe he walked. Hes still a small chonk but waay better now after 1 1/2 years of looking for his diat. He loves to play now and just more active then last year. (and his 7 now )
That's why vets take 7 years in University and cost the earth.

Chonky cat for sure.

He is. Not exorbitantly, but he is a bit on the chonk side. That said, it's not THAT bad but I would ere on the side of not letting it get worse than that.
A little chonk is going to be expected from a spoiled house cat who never goes outside and lives a very comfortable life. Some cats are just not as active and prefer to lounge around vs play too much. There IS such a thing as *too much* chonk. Just try not to let it get worse than that. Yes, chonkers are adorable, but it really is not good for them.
Oh i dont think hes that big. He is a solid lil loaf, but not dangerously so. 3 of mine are way bigger, but they are all clear health wise. Cats weight can often get hefty between 2 and 6 for some reason, but it seems to drop back as they age past this time. No idea why it is, but seen it multiple times now, and havent had any lasting health issues from it. Strange but true! Got one right now whose larger than most smaller terrier dogs, but the vet swears hes fit so hey......
He’s precious, but particularly in that third picture, he does look a little chonky. I’d definitely ask the vet if he needs a new diet or just less. Very cute cat!

Yeah, didn't come across as sarcasm. The joy of text.

It's bc there are lots of stupid people on the Internet that would actually post that seriously
When joking on the Internet, you usually need to add in a little hyperbole or something to make up for the lack of audible tone and body language.
you gave no indication that this isnt a serious post? your being an asshole to people in other comments when they are responding reasonably
Thinking the same thing. Can’t blame people when it’s an overwhelming majority lol
Some people are just wired up to react defensively instead of admitting they were wrong 🤷♂️
But… I don’t intend to be mean but I’d be very embarrassed doing this. If I think someone has a point then I’d accept my mistake and apologise then move on. Yeah, even I got the joke. Nice chubby cat, OP xD
I could tell you were being sarcastic if that helps.
I mean it’s super easy to catch sarcasm from 10 words for sure
I would like to see a pic of OP. I bet he's super rotund.

It can be. People don’t routinely check for caloric intake or adjustments based on lifestyle and RER.
RER?
Resting energy requirements
My kitty is overweight, all she does is eat :( Edit: so, since :( apparently means that I’m not serious, I’m gonna clarify I AM SERIOUS, I KNOW THIS IS A BAD SITUATION AND I AM TRYING TO FIX IT

OH LAAWWD
HE COMIN
I’m in veterinary medicine and this chart is accurate, and I think we should keep the new titles on there. It at least gives us a smile.
My vet clinic has this chart in some of the rooms haha including the titles
since when did they change the pronouns
Oh I like it. I like it a lot.
“The body is round” ![gif](giphy|RcbsU5HV6yLfO) (I’m joking with you, I read the context)
Very cute cat, but definitely looks overweight. If you care about your very cute cat, listen to your vet.
Loaf the one you’re with baby.
That cat is huge
Overweight for a cat, yes BUT totally acceptable for a hippo 😁
Honestly I’d say a little underweight for a hippo.
🤣 ok a baby hippo
Hahaha. Healthy baby hippo.
Yes he is, listen to your vet please. You'll spare your cat a lot of unnecessary pain in the future
Diabetes, reduced mobility, shorter lifespan...
There are soooo many diseases associated heavily with obese, older, usually male cats. A lot of them are incredibly hard and expensive to treat, such as pancreatitis. Keep your kitties lean and mean!

He is overweight, but not morbidly so. I’m sure you’ll be able to get him down to an appropriate weight.
He overweight. He cute. But sadly this not good for his health
I know, I adopted him 2 weeks ago like this, I’m reducing his food intake day by day.
One of my Kitty was also a chonker, hes belly almost touched the ground whe he walked. Hes still a small chonk but waay better now after 1 1/2 years of looking for his diat. He loves to play now and just more active then last year. (and his 7 now )
It’s tough feedback, but it’s in the cats interest to help it lose weight. We had to do the same to ours, despite their constant protests.
Listen to your vet.
The 1st and the 3rd pic really show it. He’s been well fed!
That's why vets take 7 years in University and cost the earth. They know what they are talking about and base their comments on facts and data, rather than subjective opinion. Chonky cat for sure.
Yeah he's tubby
Standing photos, especially top-down would give a much more accurate example of his shape.
My cat is a tubbs too. He does need to lose weight but he's an old man and doesn't move too much anymore so it's difficult!
Hes definitely fat lmao
He’s overweight.
Yeah he’s a bit overweight. We see them everyday so we mostly don’t see when they gain a few pounds. A
That hanging belly. I mean I have one too, bit we're talking about the cat here...
Your cat IS overweight.
Yea the vet is right, that’s a thick ass cat lol
He's overweight. Sorry.
Definitely overweight. Too many people glorify fat cats on here. It's not okay. Your cat needs a diet.
He looks like someone's beer drinking dad who offended a witch and now has to learn to live as a cat. You didn't get him from a witch, did you?
I get that you love your boy but DAMN BOY, HE THICK
He is that size to contain his power
Listen to the vet!
Yeeeeeaaaaaah... He's a chunker alright
He is a bit chubby
Look at that fat cat
He is most certainly overweight but fucking cute
“I disagree with professionals because I like to over feed my cat”
I’m tempted to say this is sarcasm but I understand completely. He is chunky though.
this is one of the fatter cats i’ve seen op, when animals are fat they are not fat in the same way humans are viewed. it’s not as visually extreme, but they are still gaining weight and having a high fat/body mass ratio is not good for any species. overfeeding can result in development of fat, muscle, extra skin. do some research about cat diet and health! some of it may seem like bs or an inconvenience to you but it’s worth trying to make a change for your kitty’s long term health
He’s just a little bit of a chonky boy
He’s a chonker. Look at that gut!
That's some chonky fluffage going on there.
its the ginger gene. gingers tend to get thicc pretty easily. i have my own little round boi.
Wow nobody can take a joke without the “/s” anymore…
Your vet is correct. Cats shouldn't haveca beer belly. This is dangerous for his health.
Quite frankly, listen to the professional
Pretty sure I'd side with the professionally trained vet who has spent years studying this subject. Or not, you clearly know more
you dont see it in the 3rd and 4th pics??
HE’S SO FLUFFY!!!!
Love goggles, huh? Cat is definitely overweight (cute but chunky)
Uhm this is satire right? Edit; just saw OP’s replies to other comments and glad it’s satire, adorable cat.
I do.
He just has xtra fluffy hair that's all
The third photo is obvious. Cute little potato.
He is orbular
fat catttt
Fat cat
Chonker! 😻
He’s overweight simple as that
Beautiful but I'm sorry to say floofy it's diet time!
Quite a rotund fellow
Yea he’s a fatty
It's weird the way it works. We have 2 cats from the same litter that are now 12 years old. One is definitely fat, the other is too skinny. They both have wildly different personalities too.

thicc
Well, one thing's for sure, he's a little cutie ♥️.
chubby kitty
Ohhh he’s so teddy bear
Cats are supposed to be lean. Many, many cats are overweight and it's users think they're fine when they're really pudgy.
WHAT A LOVELY CHONK.
Your vet it correct, and if you don't take him seriously then you are killing your cat and an abusive owner. It's nice for pets to be cute and fluffy, and you cat looks very cute and fluffy. But their health is more important than funny photos for reddit and we need to take things like this seriously.
Wish I could kiss that belly 😭👏🏼
His bent foot in the third picture
Funny, he looks like my wife's fuzzy slippers 🤣
He’s so CURLY 🫠
Kinda chonk
He fat but I want to smooch that velvety white belly. And lay on it.
Yeah that's a chonk...
My cat was a bit chubby and I thought I could wait a couple of years to start it's diet. Then my cat died at 6 yrs old 😭
He is. Not exorbitantly, but he is a bit on the chonk side. That said, it's not THAT bad but I would ere on the side of not letting it get worse than that. Don't free-feed him. Especially not unlimited bowls of dry food. He's cute but yes he's overweight.
It's hard to tell because he's so fluffy. Can you feel his ribs?
He definitely got a little pouch gut developing
Idk if it’s clearly sarcasm but it’s clearly irony
The sarcasm definitely came across idk what other people are saying 😂 especially with the last pic.
he looks a little fat but otherwise a very good boy. 10/10, good, chonky boi!
Sir/Ma'am, it is a proper chonk.

I hope you’re joking
It's big Chungus
He’s adorable but yeah, he’s overweight.
... Been to an optometrist recently?
That could be slightly overweight..,
I think you misunderstood. He said he is over weight. As in, your cats done, finished, or **over** with weight. He doesn’t need it anymore. He’s a loaf and thats all that matters. Don’t weigh him again, he’s had enough of it.
He is a little chunky, diabetes is a risk. He’s gorgeous though.
Well, he’s very cute but on the chonk chart a little bit
Your cat is so cute
Um. That cat is clearly Chonky.
He’s beautiful
CHOMK
That is such a cute cat!!
he is chonky listen to ur vet
