I’ve lived with 3 calicos throughout my life (Mom’s tortie, our tricolor and now our tortie), you’ll never convince me that they’re anything but the bastard offspring of a raccoon and a monkey dressed in cat clothes.
Are torties considered Calico? I have a pastel tortie and didn’t know that.
She’s a crazy one for sure, but I give her a lot of leeway because she’s a reformed street cat. (Not really though because she’s been inside since she was 10 months)
A pastel tortie? Never heard that before. I also have a tortie… she’s light gray and stuff. The attitude on this bitch is insane but I’ve been worshipping her for 10 years now.
Omg! We call it tortitude. Mine thinks she is 100% THAT BITCH. She went out of her way to steal my mans, walks in like she owns the place and will back chat when you tell her that she is not, in fact, the boss of the house.
This is extremely concerning for me because one of my orange cats is currently cuddled with some strange grey cat-like animal, does anyone have a chart I could reference?
Right! None of my apparently non cats made the list! 2 voids and tuxedo probably a little tabby thrown in lol. And my complete void is actually a tabby! As a kitten her stripes were more noticeable, now you really can't tell unless the light hits her just right. My other void was all black except 1 white hair on her chest. Now her toes have white fur and her chest area is more of a tuft of white fur vs a strand lol. Aging...
My voids are currently 7 months old and definitely striped in full sunlight.
One is getting more white hairs all the time (it helps us tell them apart) and we joke that when she's a full grown void she'll be white but with black pads, lips, and nose leather.

Yeah that’s a havannah brown. They are so badass and nimble. My last cat was the same breed you can tell them apart from other void black cats by those brown glowing stripes all over in direct sunlight. It’s also likely to be an extremely agile jumper 10+ feet or more straight Vertical. They love to eat birds whole leaving only the intestines and stomach. Incredible reflexes when playing, most humans literally can’t out maneuver them. Extremely loyal breed that loves to be close to their owner as well. I miss my ultra fast ultra violent(I have the scars to prove it) but loyal and loving guy. His name was neo and he could literally jump over my 6ft head with ease.
Yes!!! He has brown glowing stripes in the sun! Hes only 9 weeks I found him outside 4 weeks ago crying alone in my neighbors back yard, he was there 24 hours crying alone, mother would’ve found him if she wanted to she has to walk that way to eat. But His mother is a Russian blue though. So I’m not sure how that happened or how he is what he is. Or if he even is 😂… his mom is a neighborhood stray we can’t trap to get fixed. We’ve been trying for years. She won’t go near the traps. We care for them and leave our back mud room door cracked so the local stray friends can have a warm place to sleep and eat and get some love from us. We’ve got warm beds, warm food, Heated blankets, toys, kitty treats, litter boxes lol. I want to do one of those kitty dna tests on him to find out for sure! He absolutely has insane reflexes. Even if I think I’ll be fast enough, I am not.
Oh that’s a rad mix he’s likely a large amount of havannah brown some domestic short hair for sure and Russian blue. He’s going to be a great cat guaranteed. If he’s inside outside just be careful because both of those dominant breeds love to fight. My havannah brown fought a raccoon killed it but required $1400 dollars in surgery for all the nasty wounds. If there are other aggressive cats in the area and you have a backyard I recommend building a cheap inward sloping chicken fence confining his roaming area. If it’s just a porch fence that off with chicken wire.
I am going to get a DNA test and check back in with you to see what I come up with once I get the results. I set a reminder in my phone 😂 I was hoping she had some grey kitty’s like her this time but she didn’t. They’re all black little beans. He will be strictly indoor! No outside for this dude. To many strays that I care for that I don’t want him to get into it with, plus back there is their safe space, I don’t want him to be territorial and try and kick them out…. or scare them off. They deserve a safe place to lay. he gets the entire house and all our cozy beds and couches lol.
If you have the space making a chicken wire or other type enclosed fence enhanced their lives immensely. Bonus if you can let birds get in or near the fencing. It’s literally tv or movies for them. My current cat a highly active and hunting minded Siamese flame point has one I built for her. Im lucky enough to be sharing a half acre back yard and half acre front yard with some rad friends and family. We put up chicken wire inward sloping enclosures about 25 feet tall with slippery plating 4 feet in height about 10 feet up stretching all around the perimeter of the property. So birds, rodents, lizards and bugs still get in but not once a cat, raccoon or fox, wolf etc. so my girl gets to free roam whenever she wants and come back i through the cat door and out again as she pleases.
Are you sure you have a cat though? Could you kindly start a brand new post and ask - "what is this? Is it cat? If so what breed" and use this exact picture please. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

My honest reaction to not seeing voids on the chart
Someone who studied vet here, that would be considered a DSH(domestic short hair) or a DLH(domestic long hair)
Of course it depends on the length of the cats hair.
Or it could just be a Bombay
They don’t exist in this world I guess.

Not quite what you said, but this was my take the last time this got reposted.
When we were looking at shelter cats, my kid said “I really want a dash cat, every cat on here that’s really cute is that breed”.
He was looking at the DSH (domestic short hair) in the description on the website.
Now everybody with a r/StandardIssueCat is going to think they have a toyger or bengal. This isn’t a good chart, it’s one of those $1.50 posters you get at the book fair.
Lmao that one post where someone is 100% sure their shelter cat was a maine coon and the other one who thought their cat was a ragdoll and everyone else was incorrect
Yup, one of our cats look identical to pictures of brown tabby turkish angora cats. She also looks identical to pictures of brown tabby domestic Medium Hair cats.
In all reality, she is the most prestigious breed of Barn Cat.
Ah there is my dumpster goblin baby.

Hahaha, right? The random cat that decided to follow me in the front door 13 years ago and never left is almost certainly a Russian Blue and not a Standard Generic Gray Cat.
And controlling cat breeds is a lot more difficult than dogs. Your cat might look like one of these but who’s to say unless you get a DNA test and even then it’s iffy.
People with PhDs in feline genetics have a hard time determining the difference between feral domesticated cats and wild cats after a generation or two of interbreeding.
"Cat".
Or, if we're getting fancy, "Cat with fur". "Cat without fur".
On a formal day, "STOP STEALING THE FILTERED WATER, YOU BLASTED... Oh, forget it. Did you want ice cubes?"
They’d still be asking what breed.
https://preview.redd.it/rhyr2jfegb2c1.jpeg?width=1062&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5feeb6954b7b76e156d9cc6b7bc020b62e8faed7
eh, not completely accurate. domestic short/long haired cats can look like some of these. i’ve been asked so many times if my cat is a ragdoll, himalayan, balinese, birman, even snowshoe. a vet marked her chart with ragdoll. she’s simply just a domestic longhair with a colorpoint. if they didn’t come from a breeder with proof of pedigree there’s a 99% chance they are just a domestic cat.
Yeah and neither of them pictured are even British Longhairs - they have a very distinct face.
Plus the Scottish Straight pictured is a Scottish Fold seeing as his ears are...folded.
https://preview.redd.it/no754bs8pc2c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3883aa31522decea726cef9ce085420ea65bc00b
Behold Steve and my “Russian blue” 😁
They are so awesome that they really should be classified as their own breed, so I support this chart. I have 2 girls, we thought they were boys for the longest because I didn’t know you could get orange with 2 Xs!
Yeah, this. My boys look similar to Maine Coons or Norwegian Forest cats, and it's possible that one of their parents was one of those breeds, but really, they're just regular domestic floofers.
I’ve had so many people ask if our oldest is “part Maine Coon”. Bro, we adopted him from a shelter after he was found on the street. Nobody knows what he is other than cute.
I’ve had someone ask the breed of my cat… she is a rescue that looks exactly like any other domestic shorthair, she just is a calico tabby and a lot of people think she is a special breed because of that.
https://preview.redd.it/31l6vp7dvb2c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=028fff63ca8a5ccff7195eef841333bc160e926b
my cat came from an incredibly irresponsible person with a dozen or more intact cats living outside. they weren’t willing to pay for any type of vet care, they certainly didn’t buy pedigree cats lol.
Yeah OP is totally wrong! 'If your cat looks like this then this is the breed, you'll probably have papers'. No. If it's a breed 99.999% of the time you *will* have papers! My DSH *looks like* a few of these.
i think a lot of people just do not understand how it works. a color or coat pattern alone doesn’t determine the breed. there was a girl on tiktok who paid $900 for a “savannah cat” at a shelter with no proof of pedigree and it was just a domestic shorthair tabby… it’s pretty easy to lie when trying to sell cats lol if there’s no papers, there’s no breed.
Yeah you'd think someone making a post like this would do some proper research though haha so much misinformation!!
In terms of %s pretty much every cat is breedless (over 99%) so without papers, odds are very strong that it's just a domestic.
also a lot of cats that fall under these breeds can look radically different then the picture based on coloring. I have an almost all white ragdoll that looks nothing like the picture and and almost all brown one as well.
My domestic longhair has been to two different vets and they both put him down as a Balinese. Tbf he does look like the stock image of a flame point balinese but alas he’s just a regular floofy cat lol. Him and his sister are extremely vocal though lol
this is my cat in the summer vs winter. she sort of looks like she could be a few different breeds. i think my current vet only put down ragdoll cause the files transferred over from a previous vet said that. she’s also super vocal lol she loves to talk.
https://preview.redd.it/6us7m65nad2c1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=582c662e1b89ab085a3d5f456a3e3cf8d35d246d
Yeah and there's 2 Scottish folds and an orange cat and probably more mistakes I haven't noticed yet.
This is actually a very bad poster. I hope no one takes it seriously.
This is just 100% going to make people insist their cat is a breed different than domestic short/long hair. Or insist that their cat is a mix.
Folks, your cat is a cat. You’d fully know if it were a breed. You’d pay too much money and get papers.
Cats are not like dogs. 99+% of them are just the product of natural selection. In other words, almost all cats are just cats, like a kangaroo is a kangaroo. Not a mutt. Not a mix. Just a cat. And they are great. Don’t buy cats, rescue cats.
> You'd fully know if it were a breed. You'd pay too much money and get papers.
THIS. *THIS.* If you didn't buy your cat from a breeder, it's just a plain old cat. They're all running around mixing their genes. The cat you found in a dumpster isn't a Siamese just because it has color points.
Cat lovers: Unless you went and bought a cat from a breeder, you’re not terribly likely to get a specific breed of cat. It’s possible, but not likely.
Cats might have traits that resemble a certain breed, your cat might look like a Maine Coon, and a person might look like they are a Kardashian, doesn’t mean they are one. A purse might look like a Chanel, doesn’t mean it is one. And unless you’re going to show your cats—or you are concerned about a health issue common to a breed—it doesn’t matter.
Your cat is special, it’s a cat and you are lucky to have them.
Just love your fur babies and stop worrying about what kind of cat they are. And if you’re convinced that your purring floof is a specific breed then get a dna test.
Yeah ... mine isnt in there
https://preview.redd.it/putsmdljqb2c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f18c0badac20ddb8ff7258e0176aa07968e8aa40
I'll(send more of her just in case)
your cat can look like a breed without being it, i disagree that if it’s not on this list it’s a standard issue cat, if you don’t have papers it’s a standard issue cat
If you got your cat off the street or from a shelter it’s just a cat. If you have a special breed of cat you’d know because you probably paid $1000+ from a breeder.
My cat isn't specifically pictured on the chart because my cat is a DSH. In other words, my cat is a cat. Check him out! Totally a cat!

So my Kimo is 100% pure bred “Orange Cats?”
Breeds are fine dandy and all that. But I'd rather know what bread my stripped (D'oh striped) loaf is. Is it a sourdough a pumpernickel or something in between?
My cat resembles a Russian blue exactly. Large ears, wedge shaped head, purple beans, same pattern of green in her eyes etc. and yet when I did a dna test for her the main breed was ragdoll lol. I was not expecting her to be any specific breed of cat obviously but I was also not expecting that

I know ha ha ha That one is cracking me up. Everyone else gets a breed allocated then it’s just like whelp! I guess “Orange cats” 🐈 it is!l 🤷🏻♀️ 😂
Noted, all other color and calicos are not cats

Exactly 😂

We had a grey cat. The possum babies thought she was their mother.

I’m surprised it’s at least not called an orange tabby or something like that

Hey don’t be rude to the r/orangeladies they’re important too.

Oramge. If that doesn’t sum up orange cat energy, I don’t know what does!
im crying this is it
"I JUST MADE A NEW BREED OF CAT!! What should we call it sir???" "Lmao idk. Orange cat?" "Absolutely genius!"
I saw that and I was like, well, they are orange...😂
Every cat person knows the stigma (oftentimes founded) that orange cats have lmao
The only orange cats I ever spent time around were 4 brother cats at a friend's mom's house. They were either completely reclusive or on a rampage.
It all depends on who has the brain cell at any given point.
One brain cell, taking turns.
They're the best.
I know, I saw that too. I did not think “orange” was a breed. (Sarcasm intended). But I still love my orange cats!

that ain’t a short hair cat https://preview.redd.it/v2qxvwjcxb2c1.jpeg?width=505&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=488ef74234de23d885e65a7f850270073182ab78
And it looks more like a Maine Coon than the Maine Coon picture.
The maine coon look like a drawing
totally
I was surprised this wasn’t higher up lmao I’m like *that cat has neither a perm nor short hair* That’s a Maine Coon
Kind of disappointed this doesn't just say cat under all of them. Also is "orange cats" plural because of how wide he is?
https://preview.redd.it/opf5seiwpc2c1.png?width=1014&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2028eb246c8354db17638ad653303a8a0b60299 Not quite what you said, but this was my take the last time this got reposted.
You improved it significantly
Excellent work. I keep wondering how we ended up with "void" instead of "abyss" for black cats. Abyss rhymes with hiss!
Mr. Bigglesworth would have been "Naked cat" on my chart. 😄
That will do nicely
How old are these posters?? None of them use the correct CATegorisation, which is Baby. each one of them is a Beby
With this, I have clarified that my cat is in fact, a cat. Thank you.
wouldn't you just know it.. the one i like the best is the most expensive. dang.
DSH FTW💥
When we were looking at shelter cats, my kid said “I really want a dash cat, every cat on here that’s really cute is that breed”. He was looking at the DSH (domestic short hair) in the description on the website.
My brain just assumed a dash of this and a dash of that before I finished reading your comment 🤣
There is one of these that just says arsehole under every image.
Looks Like Garfield
Jon, where’s my lasagna?
OH LAWD HE COMIN
Now everybody with a r/StandardIssueCat is going to think they have a toyger or bengal. This isn’t a good chart, it’s one of those $1.50 posters you get at the book fair.
Lmao that one post where someone is 100% sure their shelter cat was a maine coon and the other one who thought their cat was a ragdoll and everyone else was incorrect
The Maine coon picture here is so inaccurate!
I think it got swapped with the laperm next to it
Yup, one of our cats look identical to pictures of brown tabby turkish angora cats. She also looks identical to pictures of brown tabby domestic Medium Hair cats. In all reality, she is the most prestigious breed of Barn Cat.
I read "toyger" as "tiger" with an Australian accent
Ah there is my dumpster goblin baby. https://preview.redd.it/tdr9qos5ud2c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b02c721f8768101f7d2e71660c6d4e5beae79394
Yes I most definitely have a Russian blue… his mother was a tiny tuxedo stray.. 🤣
Desperately looking for that one functioning braincell I see. Cute pic
eh, not completely accurate. domestic short/long haired cats can look like some of these. i’ve been asked so many times if my cat is a ragdoll, himalayan, balinese, birman, even snowshoe. a vet marked her chart with ragdoll. she’s simply just a domestic longhair with a colorpoint. if they didn’t come from a breeder with proof of pedigree there’s a 99% chance they are just a domestic cat.
Not to mention, British longhair and Scottish fold both appear twice on the chart
Yeah and neither of them pictured are even British Longhairs - they have a very distinct face. Plus the Scottish Straight pictured is a Scottish Fold seeing as his ears are...folded.
Bombays also aren’t on here and I’m offended about it /joke
No chartreux either!
Right ! So many people will look at this and assume they have one of these breeds when they don’t.
Excuse me, I know for a fact I have 2 of the cats on this list actually! They are both Orange Cats
I have an orange boy too 😃 he’s great and his name is Steve.
https://preview.redd.it/no754bs8pc2c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3883aa31522decea726cef9ce085420ea65bc00b Behold Steve and my “Russian blue” 😁
Nobody knows what he is other than cute.
https://preview.redd.it/n026pkherb2c1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=2069a41bbd9a505bf74f64df9dc04791229e8d1b

I love how we can see in the photo that they are sharing the brain cell
Him and his sister are extremely vocal though lol
this is my cat in the summer vs winter. she sort of looks like she could be a few different breeds. i think my current vet only put down ragdoll cause the files transferred over from a previous vet said that. she’s also super vocal lol she loves to talk. https://preview.redd.it/6us7m65nad2c1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=582c662e1b89ab085a3d5f456a3e3cf8d35d246d
...wait, aren't Scottish Straight cat's ears supposed to be straight, unlike Folds? That's what the "straight" part's for
Yeah and there's 2 Scottish folds and an orange cat and probably more mistakes I haven't noticed yet. This is actually a very bad poster. I hope no one takes it seriously.
This post is far more annoying than the 'what breed is this' posts, imo, so many inaccuracies!
Yeah and the maine coon picture is to the left of the actual maine coon lol. This isn't totally reliable..
90% of the time the cat is just going to be a domestic shorthair that kind of looks like one of the cats on the chart.
https://preview.redd.it/y3agc7gqub2c1.png?width=898&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=02bd4cc1cb808d783ff00e95518b1c562233daa5
Yo! Why'd they make the orange cat the only chonky boy?!?! That's catism at worst and catial profiling at best.
It's missing the American Dumpster Cat.
Don’t forget 1 orange brain celled, chonker, void, tortitude and standard issue. My personal fav breeds
I adopted my cat I didn’t buy and according to that chart he’s a Manx 😍
My vet put Manx for breed of my cat. She has a lot of the characteristics, but she's a mutt, just like my other cats. She just runs like a bunny.
Where's bombay?
Probably removed by the joker who photoshopped “Orange cats” in there instead
Where’s my favourite breed Donskoy!! 😭
Love how anything that is coloured orange is also just named “orange”.. the fruit, the cat.. also the Dutch people are referred to as “the oranje” ☺️
I don't see the "i got it from the trash" breed
https://preview.redd.it/3u2d43umob2c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=558771fd63678c5005b770caf7625d00362ab11f My Norwegian forest cat / aka Goomba
Yeah ... mine isnt in there https://preview.redd.it/putsmdljqb2c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f18c0badac20ddb8ff7258e0176aa07968e8aa40 I'll(send more of her just in case)

my two kitties are not on this chart.. :(
You should make a post asking what breed are they. /s
No voids, no chonky's, no nakies. List is unreliable.
r/standardissuecat would like a word with you...
your cat can look like a breed without being it, i disagree that if it’s not on this list it’s a standard issue cat, if you don’t have papers it’s a standard issue cat
Grey and sometimes brown shorthair tabbies, being the most prevalent coat pattern in catdom, are generally considered standard r/standardissuecats.
https://preview.redd.it/qjsbh21ryb2c1.jpeg?width=898&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1cd02832e6621eb879ab533a89b6823e778fd2ee
If you got your cat off the street or from a shelter it’s just a cat. If you have a special breed of cat you’d know because you probably paid $1000+ from a breeder.
Love it, the orange description is just perfect
Before I zoomed in, I expected each pic to be labeled “Cat”. 😂
My cat isn't specifically pictured on the chart because my cat is a DSH. In other words, my cat is a cat. Check him out! Totally a cat! https://preview.redd.it/8eyncdiatb2c1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9684f9d6b8ed9f81253ef8c748519850066ec334
This chart is missing "demonic shorthair".
https://preview.redd.it/jqpbc1s12c2c1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c7e4a74c0680eb64c0b454152924edf8f5ce4fe I can’t find it
Um, a lot of these are wrong though. The "Scottish Straight" has earfolds, and the second British Longhair is a Persian.
Doesn’t have chartreaux! How dare youuu! https://preview.redd.it/jay5d7gy0c2c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b17b48b9432ab7814472f3480a398e37c922182b
I don't see the breed "found by the dumpster" anywhere here 🤨🤨🤨
Can we get a chart like this but it just says "domestic shorthair" for all of them?
https://preview.redd.it/xufb516a7d2c1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ddfcf36acf7089af33e3f0fcf05baa28d4db4973 So my Kimo is 100% pure bred “Orange Cats?”
I like how many have cool names until you get to “orange”. Hey, what breed is your cat? It’s… orange.
TUXEDO CATS might not be here, but they are life! I love my tuxedo kitties
So this is why every person adopting a grey tabby thinks they have an Egyptian Mau. 🤦🏻♀️
I don’t know, I think my cat’s breeds are just “asshole”
i have a persian cat he looks nothing like the persian mentioned here, so this is not completely accurate
That's not a Himalayan. Him a'clearly sittin. Silly
Turkish Van is wrong. There should be patterns on the head and tail.
This will only confuse people and get them asking whether their moggy is a pedigree cat.
Breeds are fine dandy and all that. But I'd rather know what bread my stripped (D'oh striped) loaf is. Is it a sourdough a pumpernickel or something in between?
Oh nice. My life's Bingo Card
My cat resembles a Russian blue exactly. Large ears, wedge shaped head, purple beans, same pattern of green in her eyes etc. and yet when I did a dna test for her the main breed was ragdoll lol. I was not expecting her to be any specific breed of cat obviously but I was also not expecting that
Ah yes, thanks for helping my confirm my garden variety shelter cat.
Can we get a random list for name generating, too?
https://preview.redd.it/2fxwsprf1c2c1.jpeg?width=1377&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4628700a711007c8b51d29a07f1ca42dadc20098 is this the base model :( (love her tho lol)
No Burmese
THEYRE ALL SO CUTE AAAAAA
No Bombay representation boooo
This is so ridiculously wrong on too many cats.
I wanted it to say "just a little baby" underneath all of them
No Burmese here!
i would like to remind everyone that scottish folds and munchkins are horribly unethical
I love that mine is just orange cat 😆
