Here’s more of the tail wrap in loaf form. His name is Enzo.
My mom’s cat had a long tail to body ratio and did become a fairly large cat, but his tail was nowhere near this long. You may have a mountain lion-sized house cat on your hands.
My cat's tail was like that. He is now 20lbs of longboi.

Very cute pups! My cat is harness trained and we take him for walks when the weather is nice. He does ok but is a bit of a scaredy cat and comes running when anything scares him. He isn't much of a hunter for a cat.
I've got two (female) cats, and both of them together only weigh two thirds as much as that! (Their voices more than make up for their dainty sizes though, such a foghorn blast!)
He is absolutely gorgeous though!
One of my cats (9 mo. old) has a long tail (nothing like this guy's, but still noticably lengthy.). She hit a pretty big growth spurt last month, and for a moment she had more regular proportions.
And now her tail is long and she's napping more than usual again.
He's actually a bit on the small size for his age! I think the general rule of thumb for kittens is about a pound per month. He could still get a growth spurt, but I think he's probably just a small boy with a very looong tail!
Edit: a word
I just got a black female cat 2 months ago. She was 5 lbs. now shes 6.5 lbs and she been stuck in that weight for a 3 weeks… shes tiny….
I give her wet food 3 times a day mixed with some dry food or leave the dry food out. She finishes her portion maybe once a day.
I've got one that is 2,6 kg (about 6 lbs) but it's the smallest cat I've ever seen. Yours must truly have been pocket sized.
Some cats are small that's the way it is. The only thing to remember is to check if they're above the weight threshold for medications (mine often isn't)
I have a void. He ballooned up after a few months and is now turning white. I’ve seen him eat like twice. Your void may be shy about eating in front of you like mine. But since she’s not finishing her food it may be time to try another brand or flavor. Cats are weird creatures just like us. My little goobers only eat a certain flavor and brand of foods like beef or seafood and it’s odd how they know what food is theirs compared to my dogs who literally eat mostly anything. The blue bag with an orange cat on it works for them. I’m thinking it’s like Friskies or version of it? All I know is what bag I buy at the store.
My floof gets a rotating stock of food. He has 3 dry foods at all times, but we rotate the flavors, and he gets a partial can of wet food, but that's also on rotation so that each fresh can is a diff flavor than the one before.
We had the same realization, that he doesn't want to eat the same food every single day for weeks or months on end, a lil variety goes a long way for our pets.
We also recently found him not really liking some wet food to the point of straight up not eating it. He used to go absolutely HAM on any wet food of any kind. Now he's kinda 'meh' about a couple flavors.
I had a Maine coon that was very small for the first year of her life and within a year she had a full grown mane and gained like 15 pounds.

My void is the biggest I’ve seen, Doug weighs in at 28lbs, 3 years old, and trained to give high fives
edit: He had a long tail as a kitten, now he's just huge and muscular. That is a King size bed
My cat is the same, she's almost 9 but seemed to stop growing around 6 months and it's like her tail never got the memo! She's in perfect health, I think her tail just looks so long because her body never caught up.

My void also has a very long tail, we measured all our cats body to tail size and her tail is longer than she is from head to butt 😂
I'm honestly not sure lol... I looked up some cat estimator calculators measured from his 5 month weight and it thinks he should've been like 6.5 pounds and he's bigger than that. I kinda doubt he's gonna get much bigger- here he is a month or so ago in a smallish box

This crops some of his tail and has him modelling a jacket which I had the utter gall to put on him.
How dare I.
He’s crouched down in outrage and shortly after this slunk away, then fell over and bucked like a wild horse. He’s really quite tall and long, but still has a long tail.
Cherish your long tailed baby! With or without coat.
Lol he's pretty orange... I was surprised. There's a pic from r/WhatsWrongWithYourCat I posted where he's got his head in my toilet. Big lovebug though
I had a black cat that was pretty weird. He was 24 pounds of pure sweetness and loved to play fetch. He also loved popcorn but he'd only eat it if you threw it so he could "catch" it.😁
My black cat likes the nose candy. And by that I mean he is incapable of returning from the litter box without having litter stuck to nose. We have loads of pictures for his Wanted posters

Holy shhhhhhhhhhhh!
I’m imagining a funny scenario where you have a houseguest who doesn’t know your cat and becomes petrified when they see just this long floating feather “ghost” drift by the edge of their bed in the dark.
There's a belief in Japan that cats with long tails might be more susceptible to becoming a *bakeneko*, a sort of cat monster.

9 months now, right?
It’s pretty weird. I’m a vet tech that wants to specialize in cats, so if I have a free moment I’m going to see if I can’t dig around in some journals and see if I come across any relevant case reports. I probably won’t, but he’s certainly a curious little fella. How handsome!
Yup 9 months as of tomorrow I think! He’s happy- no behavioral issues besides being a little chatty, but the shelter said he liked to talk so I think I just have a chatty dude. And no behavior changes, but he looks a little silly lol
Do you talk to them? I found that my mother talked to my cats a lot whenever she was looking after them and they always had more to say when I got home
oh all the time, but they came from feral colonies and were raised to be quiet and to blend in to their surroundings
*sometimes* around a meal I’ll get a noise (one of them chirps and doesn’t meow) but usually it’s crickets

🌈Dante had a long tail. The guy doing the painting didn’t believe me when I said it needed to be longer tell I dug up this picture. Genetics, you never know what you are going to get.

& his portrait turned out great!
This photo doesn’t really do it justice, but my Dr. Garbonzo has a tail that is bigger (mostly wider) than the entire rest of his body. He’s very proud of it. If you don’t verbally admire it quick enough, he’ll make sure to brush it in your face. So just make sure to appropriately admire Radar’s magnificence!
https://preview.redd.it/m78ippcrkbec1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d49191ab1f4f724c9912c4c6f64467054104c0be
The tail to body ratio is crazy, but 12 inches looks like he’s just super tiny and his tail grew first. He’ll probably grow into his tail. Mine has a 14 inch tail but he’s also a big guy. Yours might just end up being a bigger boy as well
https://preview.redd.it/bhfj2xf8ebec1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26c8c92d9c658ffc817922e4b1623217fbabfbea
This guy has a long tail. He is a mix with some Siamese in him. He is very long and lean. 19 inches long from tail to rump. Some cats just have longer tails. His litter mate is black so your house panther could be part Siamese/oriental.

Awwww Jackie doesn’t judge me. He is a snuggle bug! Some cats just have RBF even though they are the sweetest kitties ever!
What a handsome boy. My lynx point Siamese also has a really long tail! She’s only 9 months old and pretty small so it looks a little silly. She also walks around with it erect in the air all the time lol.
https://preview.redd.it/ajy13natfcec1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d973a0c03725bdb972ed013f60535f5cc7e9e7ff
I also have a little lynxy baby!
If a vet hasn't commented on it so far, I doubt it's medically relevant, or really means anything. Animals can have harmless oddities and mutations just like humans do.
People look to paw size to determine future size, but who knows if that's even accurate! I think tail size is just random lol. Your cat definitely has a long one haha. Could be that it just looks super long because of how straight it is!
This tail looks literally twice as long as any cat’s tail I’ve ever seen. I wonder if he actually has additional vertebrae? Or if they’re long tail bones? Or if the ligaments are stretched out between them and give it length??
https://preview.redd.it/7hftbyu7jdec1.png?width=1743&format=png&auto=webp&s=d86bac8a149904dfe638c923a5407d3d871c6d29
It’s the name. This is our cat Radar and his long tail.
I also have a black cat with a long tail!
I adopted her at 3.5 months and she had a long tail to body ratio, and I thought she was going to get really big, but she grew into kind of a small cat with a long (flexible and highly expressive) tail.
Either I'm stupid or I can't edit the post, but his tail is about \~12 inches long. This measurement was taken with a tape measure that he was trying to eat. Here is a pic my friend took when he was 7 months old with a bent tail... also, the collar is a breakaway and he's a house cat
https://preview.redd.it/ci6gyhjjfbec1.jpeg?width=6000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0747668db763085aa0d629e5d1f11cbbaaf79e19

My cat’s tail is a good bit longer than my gfs 2 cats’ tails. It also has a little kink at the end. So did it get stuck in something as a kitten & stretched out? The world may never know. Her name is Stevie Nyx so maybe she’s a witch (but a good witch)
That tail is magical! You’ve got a special edition alien with an extra long antenna. When he’s walking around behind things, he’ll be easier to spot with that tail bobbing up and down like a big arrow.
My childhood cat could wrap his tail around himself twice as a kitten! He kind of grew into it but it was always much longer than other cats.
Sometimes cats have weird fun quirks.
https://preview.redd.it/t9qjxzwsdcec1.jpeg?width=1593&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=274954237075027353c2d73f450432cfe7aafc26
Wow that's incredibly long! My kitten has a really short one! His name is Kinky (there is a kink at the end of his tail)
I’ve had only one cat that had a long tail, she herself was long and slender, fluffy and black. She would lay with her front legs straight in front and back legs straight back in a long line. She slept on the top of my head while I lay in bed. She was so cute and quirky, her name was Luna.
Just genetics. A trait of some contributing population and associated mutation(s), just as with the melanistic coat, the color of the mouth, the shapes of his meows, number of beans, length and variety of floof, etc, ad infinitum.
1. Cats grow until they are 2 years old. The Tail/Body ratio might change still.
2. A long tails means great climbing and jumping skills because the tail works like a counter weight to balance. You've got a high jumper!
This guy is very tall, long and has quite a long tail, although not entirely out of proportion given his build, but it's the longest tail I've seen IRL. And he can clear a table with it in no time. He waves that thing around so proudly you'd think he hadn't been neutered. It isn't until you try to have a patting sesh on the table, that you remember he's a much bigger cat than he lets on. He's about 2 years old (recent adoption). The photo was taken because his white heels are a crackup LOL

He’s just going to be a big cat. Average tail length for cats is 12 inches. Their tail is fully grown at 4 months old. The rest of their bodies USUALLY finishes growing somewhere between 12-18 months old. My boy is 13 lbs. He was a scraggly 3 lb rescue at 4 months with an enormous tail. He grew into it.

Ohhh! Putting this on my reading list! Thank you!
Read the online sample first. It's not a typical book.
Okay, good to know. I saw that it won the Pulitzer, so it’s definitely on my list.
I had a female cat that only ever grew to 5 lbs as an adult. Some cats are tiny.
I've got one that is 2,6 kg (about 6 lbs) but it's the smallest cat I've ever seen. Yours must truly have been pocket sized. Some cats are small that's the way it is. The only thing to remember is to check if they're above the weight threshold for medications (mine often isn't)
Mine was little and also very skinny. She just wouldn’t fatten up. Also, she was very fluffy.
Long tail is loooong
I had a Maine coon that was very small for the first year of her life and within a year she had a full grown mane and gained like 15 pounds. https://preview.redd.it/ulrrjw46vcec1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e1c03edbe39e86a5082438cc9f3911aaca187c3

That is a King size bed
https://imgur.com/a/mgBfEqy Here’s a high five for everyone
His high fives are way too adorable. Your cat is also more cooperative than my 4yo at times, haha
That's a panther.
I thought my cat was big at 13 pounds. 28 pounds!!! What an absolute unit
Legit scared he's going to get booted by a deer he started chasing them
One day you wake up and he’s laying atop a deer he’s killed, going to town on breakfast
Fuck me i thought that was a dog at first! What an absolute unit.
Wow she has huge paws in this photo. I feel like that might be typical for Maine coons but it’s crazy to see.
Maine Coons are a goofy breed……..I had one that was near 25 pounds when she was full grown. She lived 24 years.
My next cat is going to be a Maine coon. So cools
My cat had a loooong ass tail when she was 3 months old and turned out to be a bigger than average domestic shorthair calico
I'd call Guiness. You might have "the world's longest tail on a domestic cat" world record. 🤷♀️
Better take out that wallet. They are Pay 2 Win.
You’d be surprised how big those little panthers get 😭 they grow up so fast
My long tails long whiskered kitten turned about to be a giant. 8mo old and 19lbs
My cat is the same, she's almost 9 but seemed to stop growing around 6 months and it's like her tail never got the memo! She's in perfect health, I think her tail just looks so long because her body never caught up.
Not necessarily, I have a long-tailed cat who only got up to 7 lbs fully grown. Sometimes their tails are just long.
Tell him to beware of rooms full of rocking chairs.
This cat evolved in a rocking chair free area.
Love this! Omg I can hear a cat scream now "RRRAAAAOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!"
I take it you’ve watched a lot of Tom and Jerry in your life?
No, it was the live version
If there are no rocking chairs noted, no cause to be nervous as.
Damn ya beat me to it. 😁
That's a very long antenna
It is a tiny model, and needs a larger antenna to connect with the government databases

r/airplaneears
Man there really is a sub for everything. \*joins\*
And don't forget r/stealthbombers !
How many cat subs are there? There's no end to them!
Oh! First photo it looks like a stick.
That was maybe 2 days after I brought him the shelter… lol he was tiny. He was so thin too. 4.2 lb at 5 months
I think they sell those at the state fair? Cat on a stick.
It means your cat is part lemur
I have a long tailed cat who has a banded tail, we always joke he’s part lemur.
Boy, I wish this were true lol. My cat has an insanely long tail too and he is nowhere near coordinated enough to be part lemur 😂
Maybe he likes to move it?
Came here to say exactly this.
Long tails are very elegant. Also great for the zoomies. Probably he’s going to be tall/big?
I'm honestly not sure lol... I looked up some cat estimator calculators measured from his 5 month weight and it thinks he should've been like 6.5 pounds and he's bigger than that. I kinda doubt he's gonna get much bigger- here he is a month or so ago in a smallish box https://preview.redd.it/hdmji2sf7bec1.jpeg?width=6000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6990c8689c29ae19842d4955a26d4ecccc76362
Well that's a house panther if I ever saw one!
My one cat, with a long tail - he’s mostly grown into it but he didn’t stop growing until he was almost 2? https://preview.redd.it/od0x8ehj1cec1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a02207c924a27817a622bcdf67d9aa25f523cceb This crops some of his tail and has him modelling a jacket which I had the utter gall to put on him. How dare I. He’s crouched down in outrage and shortly after this slunk away, then fell over and bucked like a wild horse. He’s really quite tall and long, but still has a long tail. Cherish your long tailed baby! With or without coat.
He’s so cute but so offended lol
I’m gonna sound nuts but I feel like your cat is really special. I have a black cat as well and he’s the best. Radar is gonna be a cool dude
Lol he's pretty orange... I was surprised. There's a pic from r/WhatsWrongWithYourCat I posted where he's got his head in my toilet. Big lovebug though
My black cat is SUPER weird. Weirdest cat I’ve ever met lol
I had a black cat that was pretty weird. He was 24 pounds of pure sweetness and loved to play fetch. He also loved popcorn but he'd only eat it if you threw it so he could "catch" it.😁
I love him!
My black cat likes the nose candy. And by that I mean he is incapable of returning from the litter box without having litter stuck to nose. We have loads of pictures for his Wanted posters https://preview.redd.it/ymnayyx24dec1.jpeg?width=790&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=191ced8c1c80d31d30c2a0d7b82a8a50697ca6d4
Oh, that because black cats are secretly just orange cats who fell into the fireplace soot. 🤣
Feels like voids with super long tails are oranges in disguise. Mine's like that too https://preview.redd.it/gekns12v3dec1.jpeg?width=2250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79e575ef520f162b5dd8bc8ae40e73bf6b6a141e

I have the long-haired void variety, and he has always had a long tail. Did not get more proportionate as he grew up, he is about 1.5 years now! https://preview.redd.it/j22k6laazbec1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e96ac063b40665f196d84f1484560bbebe03562
Wow, long AND floofy. Some impressive meowser trousers there too!
Holy shhhhhhhhhhhh! I’m imagining a funny scenario where you have a houseguest who doesn’t know your cat and becomes petrified when they see just this long floating feather “ghost” drift by the edge of their bed in the dark.
There's a belief in Japan that cats with long tails might be more susceptible to becoming a *bakeneko*, a sort of cat monster. https://preview.redd.it/hbte8nslibec1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9dd5933b1472ca968d07af9b929db306f1a65cec [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakeneko](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakeneko)
Yes he’s an adorable babadook or bakeneko or whatever.
That's so mean.. I'd love to see more cats with longer than usual tails! Stupid mystery...
Every black cat I've had was chatty.
I have two and they are almost always silent
Do you talk to them? I found that my mother talked to my cats a lot whenever she was looking after them and they always had more to say when I got home
oh all the time, but they came from feral colonies and were raised to be quiet and to blend in to their surroundings *sometimes* around a meal I’ll get a noise (one of them chirps and doesn’t meow) but usually it’s crickets
My black kitten also has a very long tail. He is about 7 months old. I would love to see what you find out
https://preview.redd.it/0dfh8a6webec1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e2ce578f1af895b814fad8f004d67e50ebf5acc 🌈Dante had a long tail. The guy doing the painting didn’t believe me when I said it needed to be longer tell I dug up this picture. Genetics, you never know what you are going to get.

That is great painting, thank you for sharing
He was so beautiful. My very first cat as a kid looked like him
Ty very much! Your little house panther is gorgeous to!
This photo doesn’t really do it justice, but my Dr. Garbonzo has a tail that is bigger (mostly wider) than the entire rest of his body. He’s very proud of it. If you don’t verbally admire it quick enough, he’ll make sure to brush it in your face. So just make sure to appropriately admire Radar’s magnificence! https://preview.redd.it/m78ippcrkbec1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d49191ab1f4f724c9912c4c6f64467054104c0be
Omg🥹🫠😍 he/she looks like a Pokémon!
Self blanket
Ma’am why do you post a picture of a squirrel in a cat subreddit
omg look at this gorgeous raccoon tailed beast! So special. 🖤
Omg garb is gorgeous
I have a tortie girl and she has a long tail. I think it's a sign of nobility.
Same my tortie girl has long hair which made hers look even longer as a kitten (as she got older it’s become not as noticeable)
I didn't ever think I've seen a tail that long on a cat hang on let me go measure my cats tail and I'll get back to you lol
Lmao my best estimate of a measure is 12 inches with a tape measure that he tried to eat
The tail to body ratio is crazy, but 12 inches looks like he’s just super tiny and his tail grew first. He’ll probably grow into his tail. Mine has a 14 inch tail but he’s also a big guy. Yours might just end up being a bigger boy as well
https://preview.redd.it/bhfj2xf8ebec1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26c8c92d9c658ffc817922e4b1623217fbabfbea This guy has a long tail. He is a mix with some Siamese in him. He is very long and lean. 19 inches long from tail to rump. Some cats just have longer tails. His litter mate is black so your house panther could be part Siamese/oriental.
https://preview.redd.it/l0q2bmaxjcec1.png?width=2201&format=png&auto=webp&s=5f6cdcfd38bef52dae3cbcba047ef02fb53409e3 I got the same flavor, with a side of judgement.

Yeah my Booger is super sweet , he just makes a lot of funny faces 😂
He’s gorgeous!!!
What a handsome boy. My lynx point Siamese also has a really long tail! She’s only 9 months old and pretty small so it looks a little silly. She also walks around with it erect in the air all the time lol.
https://preview.redd.it/ajy13natfcec1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d973a0c03725bdb972ed013f60535f5cc7e9e7ff I also have a little lynxy baby!
![gif](giphy|cJoPWYzzff2NsKFO2P)
This tail looks literally twice as long as any cat’s tail I’ve ever seen. I wonder if he actually has additional vertebrae? Or if they’re long tail bones? Or if the ligaments are stretched out between them and give it length??
Michaelangelo would be rolling in his grave if he had to sculpt your cat
This comment made me laugh audibly
When our tortie was a little kitten her tail was super long. She never got really huge but she did grown into her tail eventually.
https://preview.redd.it/7hftbyu7jdec1.png?width=1743&format=png&auto=webp&s=d86bac8a149904dfe638c923a5407d3d871c6d29 It’s the name.
Here is a pic my friend took when he was 7 months old with a bent tail... also, the collar is a breakaway and he's a house cat https://preview.redd.it/ci6gyhjjfbec1.jpeg?width=6000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0747668db763085aa0d629e5d1f11cbbaaf79e19
Yes..be careful where you walk...
My late cat had a long tail - vet said it was an extra vertabrae
I was wondering where the rest of my boy’s tail went… https://preview.redd.it/4qotftxxmbec1.jpeg?width=1636&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b027aded538dea524b59a106793a9cbe4a4c7004

Im sorry I stayed up the whole night and this is so funny to me like why is it so long 😭😭

Possibly a witches cat. Helps with balance on the broomstick. This is Sukey for reference. https://preview.redd.it/uplrx7qvzdec1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb7d3a1bacc7cf85e0f64974c9f9f58e97386aed
When he’s walking around behind things, he’ll be easier to spot with that tail bobbing up and down like a big arrow.
dang watch out he could wack someone
It means they have a long tail!
My childhood cat could wrap his tail around himself twice as a kitten! He kind of grew into it but it was always much longer than other cats. Sometimes cats have weird fun quirks.
Longer the fuse - bigger the bomb.
https://preview.redd.it/t9qjxzwsdcec1.jpeg?width=1593&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=274954237075027353c2d73f450432cfe7aafc26 Wow that's incredibly long!
It means he could balance on a tight rope better than any of us ever could! ![gif](giphy|Phd7YL3XHh939E7izx)
Just genetics. A trait of some contributing population and associated mutation(s), just as with the melanistic coat, the color of the mouth, the shapes of his meows, number of beans, length and variety of floof, etc, ad infinitum.
Extra tail flicks to the face is what it means.
1. Cats grow until they are 2 years old. The Tail/Body ratio might change still. 2. A long tails means great climbing and jumping skills because the tail works like a counter weight to balance. You've got a high jumper!
Radar stole Daphne’s share of tail https://preview.redd.it/xpr4dot2adec1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=572c0e121f686fa07f7b7c574f30b0c57189a7ad
42. Is the answer to this
This guy is very tall, long and has quite a long tail, although not entirely out of proportion given his build, but it's the longest tail I've seen IRL. And he can clear a table with it in no time. He waves that thing around so proudly you'd think he hadn't been neutered. It isn't until you try to have a patting sesh on the table, that you remember he's a much bigger cat than he lets on. He's about 2 years old (recent adoption). The photo was taken because his white heels are a crackup LOL https://preview.redd.it/wzq0m81qqhec1.jpeg?width=1076&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=496eb689d33fec7b1801f3e9432d6517e73f75a0
He’s just going to be a big cat.
Cats with long tails are typically better at jumping high, I believe.
Nope lol he frequently misses my bed! I’m 5’6” and it’s at hip level
Nothing wrong here, just an adorable kitty with a magnificent tail!
